James took care of us at dinner on a Friday night. He was awesome and explained the menu very well. He made some really good recommendations and I'm glad we listened. We were here specifically for Restaurant Week and I have to say, good a really good deal considering the prices of some of the items we got. The Wagyu tartare alone was $52 already, and we spent $90 on a 3-course meal for RW. We had crispy rice tuna, Wagyu tartare, Chilean sea bass, filet mignon, cinnamon roll, and the smores cake. To drink, I had an old fashioned with a Japanese whisky. It was nice and oaky. The wife had the she so spicy which was excellent (I had a sip). Everything we ate was divine; the only thing we were a little disappointed in was the consistency of the crispy rice. We wished it would have been a bit more sushi rice consistency on the inside, but it was a bit too soggy. Everything else was amazing though, especially the sea bass. The restaurant itself is so pretty, and we happened to get seated in the instagrammable area with the greenery. We are locals, so don't really care much for a strip view, but the restaurant does have a nice one. Would we come back here and pay à la carte next time? I also tried the tuna crispy rice, which was quite tasty and the grilled octopus, which was very chewy. The real standout of the night was dessert! The coconut cake was absolutely to die for! For my recent one night stay at Fontainebleu, I chose this restaurant over Don's Prime for dinner. The restaurants are situated adjacent to each other on the ground level; Mother Wolf is also here. While Don's Prime is a classic steakhouse, Kyu, which has 2 other locations in the US, serves Asian fusion with some wood-fired items. The restaurant is very attractive, with a glassed-in open kitchen, large windows looking out to the Strip, a vertical garden wall (real or fake?). The menu offers dishes influenced by several Asian countries. They have a tasting menu of sorts called The Kyu Experience, which is what I went with. There was some confusion as to what dishes come with the Experience. Apparently parties of 2 or more get 7 plates. I was a solo diner, so only got 5 plates, and not all the ones the waiter said I would get. Still, it was a decent introduction to the menu. Here's what I received: Krunchy Kale. Flash fried kale served with a bracingly acidic nam prik dipping sauce. Tasty, but greasy and a bit salty. Used the dipping sauce sparingly because of its mouth-puckering qualities. Tuna Crispy Rice. One piece of a classic starter. Their version was fine, but the crispy rice leaned more towards hard vs crispy, a common fate with this dish. Korean Fried Chicken. I would have probably ordered this dish if I had gone a la carte; I like to try different versions when it's offered. Kyu's version was a fried thigh and breast with the sauce on the bottom with some braised spinach. The chicken alone was decently fried and crispy, but the sauce was MUCH too spicy for me! I ended up just eating the chicken. The KFC I like has some sweetness to it along with the savory and (some) spice. This one only had heat. It was the second misfire on KFC for me on this Vegas trip. The KFC at ZIppy's had almost no flavout (or sweetness) and was hard to boot. Stone Pot Thai Fried Rice. The best dish of the meal. This was the vegetarian version with requisite egg on top mixed in tableside. The rice had great flavour and lots of crispy edges from the stone pot, which is what you want. It reminded me of the rice I had at Best Friend at the Park MGM, but that one had less crispy edges and more tartness from the kimchi , expected since it's a Korean place. Pork Belly Bao Bun. A now ubiquitous dish, perhaps made famous by David Chang (Momofuku). Kyu's version was fine. I was also given a dessert, a tiramisu bao, which was nice. I ordered the Coconut Cream Spinach a la carte because I was curious. It was unique and decent. I put the spinach from the chicken in this dish to soften the spiciness. Should I return, I'd want to try the cauliflower (which I thought I was going to get with the Experience) and the duck or short rib. But I also want to try Don's Prime. read more

I came here on Halloween as you can tell from my photos. Hehe First and foremost, I don't like sweet potatoes that much but this place has changed my mind on that!! It's baked white sweet potato with butter plus toasted on top just topped it off. I am obsessed with it. (I even told my friend plus the server that I ain't touching it...) Now we can start talking about the other dishes. The ribs just falls off the bone literally and super tender plus flavorful! Dined here for a birthday dinner and had one of the nicest waiters ever. In fact, he was one day out from welcoming his 4th child into the world and was extra nice and patient as we navigated the meal with our 10 month old son alongside us. We went mainly with what got called out as fan favorites. The cauliflower lives up to the hype even though ours was served closer to room temperature than it should have been. The sweet potato was crazy delicious and was legitimately a contender for my favorite dish of the meal. The duck stone pot rice was great and the side of parker house rolls was much tastier than I expected Kyu to be serving up. I will say that the sea bass was a bit of a letdown; presentation was solid but temperature again made us feel like this was a fairly mass produced item. A friend and I came for her birthday. We went at 5:30 because we had show reservations and it was pretty quiet at that time. The restaurant is bright and open. Our server was good about recommending different things so we tried a variety. I ordered the fish and I found it to be a little tough. They did bring my friend a free dessert for her birthday, which was nice. After we left and we're going into the show, we got a text from them that there was an issue with our bill and we had to come back. Well, we couldn't then, so we went after the show and the people at the front we're trying to figure out what the issue was and why they reached out. They finally figured out that we got charged the wrong amount and they had to recharge our credit card. I honestly don't understand what others love about this place, it just wasn't my type. The restaurant was also pretty empty during our visit, so the atmosphere felt a bit boring and lacking energy. The service and most of the food was pretty good. The Pork Gyoza was good - their ponzu sauce was different. We didn't care for the Tuna Crispy Rice - the crispy rice was so thick the rice was too chewy. The Avocado Salad was okay, but the avocados were hidden under the greens and needed to be tossed. The Thai rice stone pot was okay. So up to that point we weren't impressed... then it came out- the Beef Short Rib! It's tender, decadent and tasty! The meat was absolutely delicious! Our server James was extremely knowledgeable and out of the thousands of restaurants we have visited, this was one of our top experiences thanks to James. Service from our main waiter was ok. He was sufficiently doing it but not great. Either we all spoke too softly or he cannot hear so at times, we had to raise our voice to repeat our order or our wants to him. Support staff was great. Food came out timely. We're locals specifically here for Restaurant Week and we had such a great experience. Kyu (pronounced like the letter Q) is located on the casino level of Fontainebleau. Right across from Yves Saint Laurent. Made a reservation for Saturday at 7pm and we were seated right away. I think most days reservations aren't needed but we made one just in case. For restaurant week, it's a three course meal for $80. Each course had multiple options to choose from. Between my hubby and I, we had a total of six items to try! We got the following: FIRST COURSE: -Hamachi Crudo (total of 6 pieces) -Tuna Crispy Rice (total of 4 pieces) Both items were delicious. We enjoyed the Hamachi Crudo more. The citrus gave it such a refreshing taste. SECOND COURSE: -Korean Fried Chicken -Thai Rice Stone Pot with duck confit It's bone-in chicken btw. But the flavoring of the chili butter and there's a side of braised spinach...mmmm mmm....the chili butter makes this dish. The duck thai rice's portion was HUGEEEE. It's seriously MORE than enough for two people with leftovers too! Solid choice. The waiter mixed a poached egg and there's cilantro too. Delicious all together. THIRD COURSE: -Dark Chocolate S'mores Cake with banana bourbon ice cream -The Kyu Cinnamon Roll The winner here is the dang banana bourbon ice cream! Whoooo mann....I'd just order that alone. But the s'mores cake was good too. The cinnamon roll was nothing to write home about. Definitely the weak spot of the night. Service was on point and staff was on their A-game all night. ~Food/Drinks~ The Kyu Experience: This was recommended by the server if we were interested in trying a lot of items. All of their dishes are meant to be shared, but of course, you can order for yourself too. But after the meal, we realized that it would've been a better option to order things individually. The prices didn't really add up, and we would've saved some money by opting out of some things too. Food was amazing though! Apps: Krunchy Kale was really good, super crispy and that citrus sauce to dip was refreshing. Not really worth the price though but if you're splurging, give it a try. Tuna Crispy Rice came with two pieces and I think it's tailored to how many people are doing the experience. It's a generous amount of tuna and the rice is piping hot from being deep-fried. The Roasted Cauliflower is an entire head of cauliflower! The server will cut it up and you just have to mix it in with the goat cheese and vinaigrette sauce, which gives it a sharp and creamy flavor. Highly recommend! Entrees: For the Thai Rice Stone Pot, you can pay extra to upgrade to King Crab, which is what we did. This was so good! Leave the rice on the bottom alone so it can get crispy. Lots of crab meat and the runny egg yolk mixed into the rice gave it a creamy consistency. The lemongrass flavor is strong though but we didn't mind at all. The Beef Short Rib was unexpectedly just average. You get a couple of good slices of meat but I thought the majority was too dry. The Korean Fried Chicken was all dark meat and had this really amazing chili butter. Not sure how this was Korean though since the fried batter tasted more like American fried chicken. Maybe they used gochujang as the chili? Sides: If we were ordering individually, I would've opted out of the Japanese Sweet Potato. It's pretty good but it's a lot. A giant sweet potato that's been split open and tastes like it was cooked on a campfire. More sweet than savory too but it's so filling and we didn't even finish it. At the end, we also got a little tiramisu dessert, shaped like a bun. Very soft, delicate, and smooth. A good finish after all of the heavy dishes. ~Service~ Servers were great and friendly. They were attentive and refilled waters without asking and timed each course perfectly. While we didn't have any issues, I did overhear a table behind us getting angry and I thought the server handled the situation very well. ~Atmosphere~ The restaurant has a fancier vibe but not too fancy where they were enforcing a strict dress code. We dressed up just a bit, like collared shirts and long pants, for the occasion but there were people much more casual than us. Just don't show up in flip-flops and tank tops. It's kind of dim inside but at least the noise isn't too loud. We were able to talk to each other without leaning over the table and constantly repeating ourselves. ~Logistics~ The restaurant is located inside Fontainebleau. We made reservations just to be safe but the restaurant never fully filled up while we were eating dinner. ~Conclusion~ Recommend trying at least once! I'm glad I did the Kyu Experience because now I know what to order again and what to avoid. There's still a lot of other dishes on the menu that I'd like to try as well. read more

I would have liked to see a sampler platter for the meat. We wanted to try the chicken and the brisket, but since the appetizers all sounded more interesting, we only got the brisket. I was most excited about the yuzu preserves on the burrata - it was a perfect blend of mild and sour, and the bread was grilled to perfection. Besides the burrata, the kale and sweet potato were the only thing we finished. The cauliflower itself was a bit bland, and the sauce mild. I would have liked to have it grilled a bit more or some garlic to give it more flavor. The Brisket was a bit dry... at $66 I would have expected it to be perfection. Everything about KYU was absolutely amazing. From start to finish, this was a 10/10 dining experience. Every single dish we ordered was perfect, not one miss on the entire menu. That almost never happens at restaurants, especially in Vegas, but KYU absolutely nailed it. The flavors, execution, and presentation were all on point. This is one of the restaurants inside the Fontainebleau Las Vegas hotel. I was able to get seated right away for a Thursday night diner without a reservation. To start off, the service and atmosphere were nice. The hosts and servers were very attentive and friendly. However, I personally just didn't find the food tasty and don't feel like it lives up to its price tag. I ordered the Korean Fried Chicken and the Thai Stone Pot with duck which are both signature dishes (as indicated on the menu). The Korean Fried Chicken was served with a sauce which tastes pretty similar to a spicy sriracha aioli. The sauce doesn't taste bad but it's just not enough to make up for the dryness and lack of the flavor of the chicken. The only thing I really like about this dish is the spinach served with the chicken. As for the Thai Stone Pot Rice, I wish that they would somehow mention on the menu or in person that it's very strong in ginger flavor. Because I'm not a fan of ginger, I struggled to finish the plate and had many leftovers. If you like Thai sweet chili sauce mixed with ginger then you might like this dish. Just be aware of that you don't get much protein and most of it would be rice. Overall, I'm feel neutral about Kyu but would not recommend the Korean Fried Chicken and Thai Stone Pot Rice. read more

This review is based on my visit on 2/22/25, which was my 3rd time at Kyu. I don't often repeat spots on the Strip because there are just so many places still on my list, but I have had a great time at Kyu every time I've been. My party of 3 slid up to the bar, which is a great place to sit, BTW. We had a view of the basketball games that were playing on their TV screens and the action at the bar, which for me is always entertaining. They had these amazing (and ginormous) animal-shaped vessels they were filling with a pink creamy-looking beverage. Looked like a fun time, but we weren't in the mood to heavily imbibe so passed. We were in the mood for some great food, and ordered a few entrees to share: - Korean fried chicken: I LOVE this dish. I think it was my second time having it. Everything about this dish hits - the fried skin on the chicken, the spicy and multi-dimensional sauce, the spinach and wedge of citrus to help cut the richness. Get it! - Beef short rib: The char and juicy succulence of this meat - wow. I enjoyed the pickled veggies and sauce selection too. The only thing I longed for when eating this was a bowl of rice. We didn't order any dessert this visit, but I can vouch for the fact that they are innovative and amazing. I'm not sure if they are still doing the bao trio, but if they are, this is an absolute MUST. (Hint: they are not really baos - they are just disguised to look like them.) Decided to do a solo splurge meal at KYU and it was so worth it. I'll start by saying the portion sizes are large but I made a valiant effort. Had the beef short rib with Japanese sweet potato as a side. The beef was tender, succulent, fall off the bone. And it came with a variety of tasty things to try it with from simple salt & pepper to wasabi and a trio of sauces, plus lettuce to make lettuce wraps. And then you'd think a sweet potato is just a sweet potato, but no. This one had me rethinking every sweet potato I've ever eaten in my life. Service at the bar was great. Decided to book this restaurant for an anniversary dinner since it was highly recommended by a friend. Initially what stood out was the abysmal service. We had reservations set for 9:30pm on Saturday evening. We arrived early and were attended by the host. I was surprised to meet the restaurant to be pretty empty but I'm not surprised. We thought we would get prime restaurant seating preferably a booth due to the occasion we were celebrating but we did not. I even inquired as she walked us to a random open table if we were going to get seated at better table. Side note: hostess appeared very confused as she walked us to this random table that wasn't clean and prepared. They denied our booth request and gave it to the Asian couple who came after us. I specifically heard the hostess ask them what seating would they prefer and would they like the booth and offered it to them. When I asked the host about the both seating she said no it was reserved. I replied that they were offered that, it was never reserved. Not sure if this was racially motivated because we are Black but this preferential service to customers who had later reservations than we did should not be the norm. There should be no discrimination against customers in 2025 and given to another group of people just because they represent the restaurants demographics. As far as the food options, there is a one page food menu. We tried the pork belly bao buns as appetizers. Then the Thai rice stone pot, beef short rib, and coconut cream spinach. The pork belly bao buns were nothing special. The presentation was extremely lackluster. Taste wise, the pork belly was crispy but tender and good to the taste. The entrees took quite awhile for it to come out which is surprising since the restaurant is not busy. Our beef short rib was cold, not as moist and lacked seasoning. The confit duck Thai rice stone pot was just okay. The duck was very scarce in the rice. The rice was very sticky, burnt to the bottom and crispy at some points. Overall the food was 2/5. We came in with a group of people after a work meeting. We had two reservations to accommodate a large party, and requested that our two tables be near each other, but that did not happen. I'm not quite sure what happened, but even though our table was seated after the other table, we were already finished with our meal by the time their food came. It might have been because our table ordered family style and they ordered separate dishes, so ours came out as they were ready. We ordered a variety of dishes, and they were all good, but the clear favorite was the Korean fried chicken. The only negative thing I have to say about it is that it's going to suck when I crave this after I go back home! It was delicious and the sauce that it was in, slightly spicy and very flavorful, was absolutely wonderful. We also loved the Japanese sweet potato. The pork belly bao was very good, the cauliflower was decent, and the s'mores cake was delicious. Like all restaurants in Vegas, the prices are very high. The cocktails started at $22 for their seasonal and specialty cocktails, they were small but tasty. Our server was friendly, and we enjoyed the service. KYU is one of those places that quietly delivers an unforgettable experience. Both times I've been, it's been surprisingly quiet which helped with fast service, but I'm surprised it hasn't been busier. I first came for a team dinner and we did the full KYU experience, and left absolutely stuffed. Every dish was delicious, but the vegetable dishes truly stole the show, which says a lot. Standout, memorable mentions from the experience include the kale, crispy tuna, pork gyoza, and fried rice. The Japanese sweet potato deserves its own paragraph. Photos do not do it justice. It is genuinely one of the best things I've ever tasted - perfectly cooked, rich with buttered black sugar, and finished with parmesan cheese. Completely crave-worthy. Service was great throughout, and the team was very conscientious and thoughtful about allergies, which I really appreciated.
