Our insights: * Their special rolls have been on rounds for us and it never disappoints. It is savory and delicious. Worth the money you spent. The Monkey ball was a hit on our table. * Our server was attentive and prompt to our orders. * The place is clean and quiet which was perfect for us.

I ordered this via GrubHub, so I can only attest to the food and not anything else. California Roll: Pretty standard and nothing special to be honest. They were plentiful and it came with the lunch combo, so I was happy for it. Spicy Chicken: They gave you a huge amount of food for what you pay for. The chicken I can tell is the same you would use in teriyaki chicken. It was a bit tough to eat and a bit dry, despite being drenched in sauce. The spiciness was indeed present and the onions and bell peppers were nice. The salad was whatever. Overall, I was content with ordering from here. Would consider ordering here again.

I don't recommend this place at all , I walk in at 8:11 and they close at 9:30 they told me they no longer sitting people down I'm confused why online it said 9:30 ?! There's is lots of empty tables that's a whole hour and 20mins left to close !!! The girls have a bad attitude since I first walked in I order to goo and left a $0.00 tip she got mad about it !!! what you want a tip for taking my order girl bye aren't you closing anyways !!!! Please make sure you arrive two hours before lol . And make sure to call & I asked them what time do they close that day !!!!

Volcano roll... small amount of protein layered in a tempura batter jacket.
    Joseph H.

I had the mixed tempura and the volcano roll. Both were bad for the same reason. The tempura batter was raw and soft. There was also too much of it. Posting a pic of the volcano roll that shows a less than one inch piece of spicy tuna wrapped in seaweed surrounded with massive amount of flavorless, doughy and raw tempura batter. It was deep fried in incorrect temp as the pieces were just soaked in oil.

Kanpai Sushi is a nice Japanese eatery that has been in Brentwood since 2005. The ambiance is modern with bits of Asian decor after being renovated. There were 3 animated maneki-neko (beckoning cat) overlooking the indoor seating area. These cats are a common Japanese figurine which is often believed to bring good luck to the owner. The service was prompt and our server was very nice and helpful. She accommodated our special request by asking the sushi chef if certain things can be done. We ordered: Appetizer Calamari - 3/5 The calamari was deep fried and the batter was relatively pretty thick, but tasty. The calamari itself was not not tender as I wished. It was more rubbery. Overall, the calamari wasn't bad, but I had better. Maui Roll - 4/5 This was a special sushi. There was a lot of tobico the topped the Maui roll. The cucumber gave the spicy hamachi and rice a nice crunch. The mango sauce with unagi sauce did not agree with my taste buds. I would prefer drizzling all mango sauce or all unagi sauce over the Maui roll instead of mixing the two sauces together. This is a personal preference. Others may like the two sauces drizzled over the Maui roll. That being said, the Maui roll was very good. Bento Combo (sesame chicken and california roll) - 5/5 With the Bento dinner combo, you get to select two items. One from the entree list and one from the "side" list. I selected sesame chicken and California roll. You also get miso soup and salad. The sesame chicken cubes was breaded and fried, then tossed in teriyaki sesame sauce. Very tasty. The california roll was very good. The avocado was buttery, not overripe. The portions were very generous. I would order this combination again in the future. I cannot speak for the less positive reviews that I've read on yelp. If I believed the negative reviews, I would not have tried Kanpai Sushi. We're happy that we did try Kanpai sushi. The service was good, the staff friendly and accommodating. The food we ordered was very good. I would recommend giving Kanpai Sushi a try. It is best to personally try the restaurant and give your own review. We will order other dishes from Kanpai Sushi and update this review.

Deep fried Philadelphia roll and deep fried California roll
    Heather B.

This was our first time coming to Kanpai Sushi but it was a bit disappointing. We ordered three different sushi rolls and they were all underwhelming in their own way. On all of the rolls, the sushi rice was not sticky like you'd typically expect, so all of the rolls crumbled as you tried to eat them. The wasabi was very sweet like it had sugar in it. The soy sauce was so salty it was unbearable and needed to be thrown out. In terms of specific rolls, the 007 was incredibly sweet tasting and warm because they packaged this cold roll with hot items. There were a lot of different sauces all melted together. Both fried rolls (Deep Fried California and Deep Fried Philadelphia) were very greasy and the oil had permeated all the way through to the center of the roll. The fried Philly had a distinctly fishy taste and smell to it. The flavor in both were really bland but also overly sweet. The worst part was probably how soft the "fried" exterior was since there was no crunch whatsoever, and the bottoms were very wet and soggy. We ate a couple pieces of each, so it was definitely "edible", but not really all that enjoyable. I was also not able to find my go-to order on the menu (spicy salmon roll). We're still searching for a good sushi place in Brentwood since we recently moved here!

This place is our usual doordash place but today we did dine-in. My daughter like her 007. My son said Sake Don was just ok. I usually ordered the Crazy Roll but today I gave the Maui Roll (one of the specials they have for today) which was a big mistake. It was way tooooooo sweet. Service was good

I absolutely love this place!! They are the only sushi place in town with generous portions and good fish. We've been coming here for 8 years now and I hope they are ALWAYS here!! There is not better quality sushi in the area, regardless of how high end the place. I'm satisfied with every delicious bite.

I am a huge fan of their sushi pizza which is a mix of spicy tuna and crabmeat topped with this crispy tempura nori and drizzled with this sweet and spicy sauce. Each bite is crispy and full of tuna flavor. I've had a lot of different sushi rolls in my life and this one in particular is different and special. I never had anything like it. I also love their Caterpillar roll; eel with avo. This roll is common, but they make it really good here. Another interesting and delicious roll is the Mango Crunch; Spicy tuna, salmon, and fresh mango slices with unagi sauce. This roll is sweet and savory, all in one. The sushi chef really takes his time crafting each roll. Our order does take time because everything is made fresh and from scratch. We love Neko Sushi and we'll definitely be coming back again for more.

I moved to the valley about 8 years ago and still haven't found a good sushi place. A few weeks…read moreago I was doing errands in Brentwood with no kids. My husband and I were hungry and honestly, just picked the first sushi spot that came up for us that was the closest. We have been so accustomed to mediocre sushi that we stopped being picky. We were just happy to eat sushi (our kids hate it). We showed up during lunch time the first time. We took advantage of their lunch menu. I ordered the sushi lunch special which came with 5 pieces of sushi and 1 California roll. My husband ordered the 2 piece Bento box: salmon teriyaki and California roll. We decided to also order a scallop shooter and a almon belly nigiri, along with the 49er roll When the plates arrived, I was immediately impressed by how thick the fish was. Salmon, Tuna, Hamachi, Mackerel, Albacore were the 5 pieces assorted to me. All were amazingly fresh and delicious. I also enjoyed the California roll. It was just the perfect amount of mayo and crab. The scallop shooter was such a nice surprise. In addition to the many pieces of scallop in there, it had masago, a quail egg floater, AND uni! For $10 each, I would say that it was well worth it. It definitely is a mouthful, but delicious. As for the salmon belly, what a treat! You can taste how fresh and fatty it is. I honestly dream about it. They put fresh wasabi on top and they sear the top juuuuust slightly, enough to give a little smoke taste. If I could, I'd probably order 10. I do feel that $12 for 2 pieces is also fair, especially for the quality. My husband also enjoyed his teriyaki salmon, he mentioned it could've been a bit bigger, but the flavor was good. The roll was also delicious. Perfect ratio of fish, rice, & toppings. We came back a 2nd time because I could not stop thinking about it. We decided to come for dinner and we splurged. We had faith and decided to try many items on their special's list for the day. We ordered salmon belly, hamachi belly, omakase, scallop shooter, ankimo, & salmon/tuna tartare. Lucky for us, the omakase which is 9 pieces also included some additional specials like the O-toro & albacore belly. Looking back, I think ordering the omakase as a personal item vs sharing would've been a better idea. Especially if you want to try all the specials, the price is roughly the same cost. We enjoyed every piece, so getting duplicates of items was more than welcomed. I would say that the salmon belly is a must, along with the ankimo (monk fish liver), and the hamachi belly. Take my advice, order the omakase for yourself. Try all the different nigiri and savor each bite. This place is about 25 mins from us, but it's definitely worth the drive! Annnnd I'm a cat lover, I love the simple decor and the cat themed portraits.

But this place right here is on point! I've tried their food a couple times and it was really delicious. So I decided to come visit in person. Their Soups/Ramens are super flavorful and delicious. Fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked veggies & noodles. I was really craving a good green tea because it was cold. They had a really good Jasmine Tea that was so robust in flavor. The steamed dumplings are really good too! There was nobody inside sitting at tables, which made me a little nervous at first. But I noticed they were getting a lot of DoorDash Orders and Phone Orders. The restaraunt itself is really beautiful inside and very clean. I know some yelpers have complained about parking. But it's really not that bad. Even if you did had to park down the street, this place is worth it. Bathrooms are clean as well. Service was slightly slow, but we didn't mind at all. Because we could tell it was a family run business, with very few people working in back. Ming was a really nice gentleman. He was handling a lot of things at once. But he was on top of everything and super friendly. 15% gratuity was automatically added to our bill. But I didn't mind because the prices were fairly reasonable for the quantity & quality of food. I ended up paying an extra tip because they were so amazing. This place gives you a feeling of comfort food. Great ambiance and great milk teas as well. I really hope this place gets a lot of business because it is definitely a hidden gem. I will be back more frequently. Hopefully with a lot more of my family members.
