Irresponsible kid employees who ALWAYS close earlier than they should. I kid you not, at least TEN times this month, they will close about an hour before the actual closing times. The past FOUR times, I've called to confirm when the last tan is, and I'll show up 20 minutes before that, and then sure enough I'll turn into the parking lot and the "OPEN" sign is turned off. I'm an extremely busy customer, and sometimes I can only tan 45 minutes before close. I'm paying 60-something bucks a month to tan here. It's p*ssing me off that these lazy kids just want to get off early so they leave then THEY want to. Managers: keep a better eye on these kids you are hiring, because they are cutting off work early. I don't know what it is about LA Tans and their customer service but it's always weird!!! Whoever the business owner is must not care about making money otherwise they would focus on retaining customers. With this location and many others throughout the city their store hours are never right online versus their storefront. I've showed up to different LA Tans to find the doors locked when the hours posted show they should be open. Can't expect much when you employ moody teenagers to run your shop. This is particularly frustrating when you're just trying to tan before a vacation or special event! I'll just take this as a sign to kick this cancer causing habit once and for all!!! read more

This place is totally disgusting.. The rooms are dirty, there is always trash and hairballs left on the ground and I am convinced they don't clean the beds. I know for a fact that they don't clean the stand up beds. The people working behind the counter should spend less time eating at the front desk and smoking outside and more time cleaning the salon and providing some decent customer service. I use to only do spray tan and I always went to Palm beach tan and it was very expensive at Palm beach tan. It had been a while since I tanned but I'm going on vacation in a week so I figured I'd tan. I wanted to try another place so I went into LA Tan and ended up going into the stand up tanning and also did a spray tan combo. It came out great. They have a different spray tan system than Palm beach tan does and its way better. I also really liked the regular stand up tan. The girl there was very helpful. She did not push products on me like the other tan salons do. She let me sample a few products and not once try to push me to buy anything. Great customer service, great experience, great prices! Everything is like half the price of Palm beach tan and other places I've been to. read more

Was with my sister when she went in for a spray tan and I have to say this place leaves you majorly splotchy!!!! There were enormous spots all over like giant freckles!!! Some nearly half an inch around! Crazy they make any money conning people into "tans" here. Nose and hands looked like they came out of the toaster and the overall look was homeless. This LA tan has the best beds ever for the higher levels. I tan on the level 3-5 and they are the newest ones out there. Other LA tans have older beds without air or ac in them but I love going to this location to tan. All the girls and guys are very sweet, the lotion selection is pretty good. The only down part is it takes forever for them to change the lamps. There can be one lamp out for a couple weeks. But otherwise a great location with a parking lot! read more

I've be tanning at this place for 8 years when is was "Exotic Tan" now that they sold this salon to LA Tan it's nasty. There tanning Suv lights are always out they barley maintain anything. The employees are bunch of little girl w/ bad attitude. If you have a problem and want to bring it to the manager attention, you can never get a hold of him. I remember when it was Exotic Tan, it was so packed w/ people b/c customer service was great and there product were affordable. Now it's extremely empty no body tans here. They have the most expensive packages. However, if you want a nice sexy tan LA Tan is not the place I promise you, you are wasting your money and time on a product that won't even give you color. Today was my first time at L.A. Tan and I guess I picked a good location. I love the decoration! It looked a little worn down around the edges in an awesome way. Not like the building was going to fall down, but more like it has been worn in like your favorite pair of denims. I got the Level 3 Mystic Tan. My skin is definitely darker and the spray has improved since the last time I spray-tanned. I like how it was a big facility & there was no wait time. The bathroom was clean. My spray tan room was clean. Everything was great - except the guy working the counter. He was rude to me. Uh, sorry dude that I'm not some Brazilian supermodel. Just walked 20 minutes to get here during normal, posted business hours on a Thursday afternoon. Both doors are locked, ok. Maybe someone isnt at the front desk and is elsewhere in the building. I call, no answer. There's no sign telling me when you guys reopen, or why you're closed. I come here only once a week so its disappointing to not be able to use you the one time i come. Just wondering where everyone is! Other than that, staff is nice, but the beds definitely seem pretty weak. I use this place because its closest to my house. read more

They get one star for the beds...they have great beds! The service, however, sucks! I miss the old owners sooooooo much! XOTIC Tan was 5 stars all the way - when LA Tan took over the service went south! My advice to LA Tan...fire your whole Lawrence Ave. staff and hire people that care about your customers or at least pretend to like their jobs! I love this location so much. I started tanning here in October and have received nothing but great color and customer service. Jon and his team of experts are always friendly and very knowledgeable (Jessica, Gaby, Eliza and I forgot the others) The beds are great and the salon is always very clean, unlike some of the other LA Tan locations I've visited. John who was working the past couple of times recommended the level 5 lay down tanning bed and a really good lotion that got me the results I wanted. i usually go to my local la tan gold coast location or the fullerton location because its more convienant and the stand up beds work well. this location was my first and the place is a lot bigger and dramatic due to the dimmed lights, rolling music, over powering smell of tanning lotion. the people that work there werent approachable . the teen blonde at the front didnt really know about the levels or info of la tan which i thought was ironic since she works there. the tan guy who mistakened to reside in chicago for jersey shore also works there seemed like he had no clue if he was still on shift. the stand up beds arent that great, barely got me tanned.. anyway this place is a miss. :) good luck! looks like you guys need to change up the staff perhaps to make up for the subpar tanning beds. yea? haha read more

Went in for the first time tonight and the girl working there was really sweet and helped me pick out the right lotion. We went over a bunch of them and the pricing and ultimately I went with the one she recommended. She wasn't pushy at all and didnt make me feel crappy for not buying $100+ bottle. I used a stand up bed this time, the room was clean and neat, low lighting and no mirror but I didn't really care, I just wanted a quick tan. The staff has changed a lot over the last few months, and the change was so noticeable that I now go out of my way to go to this location rather than others. It's always nice to be greeted, remembered, and given quality customer service especially when you're ending a long day. I've met most of the staff at this location, and Sara deserves some sincere recognition. She is always very knowledgeable about the products being sold and always has answers for the endless questions I've had on tanning in general. It's important to feel like you know what you're doing and what you're getting in regards to tanning, because it's your body! Sara has done a remarkable job of making customers feel heard, attended to, and informed. Especially on chaotic nights like $5 tan Tuesdays, she does a really great job of organizing the crowd of people coming in. This place has drastically improved and it is because the management has changed. A few yeas ago I would wait an hour to tan for 10 minutes...now I walk right in to my room after paying. The staff is super friendly. The cleanliness has improved as well. There do need to be some improvements like mirrors in the tanning rooms and overhead LIGHTS. Worst customer service at this location. Twice now I have been in there and left. Today specifically I waited 20 minutes while the blonde girl was individually signing up FOUR new customers and made me wait instead of just putting me in a bed while they finished the whole extensive process, I could have been in and out before they were done. And what a surprise by the time it was my turn all the beds were full and told I'd have to wait another 15 minutes. The main guy that works there is extremely rude and will try to force me into buying lotion every time I come in.... I truly do understand the reasons to wear tanning lotion while tanning - he robotically explains why it's necessary, and pushes this info on me routinely (which he must know I've heard a many times from him). Then he is actually mean to me if I don't buy it. He rolls his eyes at me and acts like I'm a complete idiot every time I come in and I don't get a packet of lotion. It's very condescending and petty. Usually, I don't buy lotion because I have my own and I prefer apply it at home, before I come in. I find this saves time and money for me. I told I already had some on once and he accused me of lying!!... VERY VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! First of all, why even lie about something like that? Second - Even if I was lying - if someone doesn't want tanning lotion, just say "ok" and keep it moving man. It's their choice. It's their tan. It's their body. They are paying for this service either way! Please, just chill out and be nice and professional. Once I make it past him, the actual tanning experience is usually enjoyable. He is just very aggressive and it is intimidating. Unless I'm buying lotion, it just feels like I am served a consequential dose of anxiety every time i come into this place for what would other wise be a relaxing experience. I usually go to the W Madison location and everyone there is great. This location is horrible. Eventhough it's the closest to home I will never go here again. The guy behind the counter failed to tell me that the beds are completely different so I went for much less time than I usually do. So it was really a waste of time. Then the beds themselves are disgusting. There was dirt and grime underneath the glass. EWWW. Then when I left the guy behind the counter didn't even bother saying thank you, have a nice day. I have a spray tan package and usually try to only go to locations with Versa Spa, but was near this location so decided to just go with the Mystic. The salesgirl was nice, and that's the only positive thing I can say about my experience. The room didn't haveany pictures showing which way was best to stand, and since almost every location I go to seems to have a little bit different suggestions for best stance, this annoyed me. The Mystic booth was gross- really dirty and slimy. The spray nozzles must not be cleaned properly or at all, because the spray was chunky and only sprayed the middle of my body, starting at my ankles. There was no fan in the booth and since it's completely boxed in, it was suffocating. When I got out, I was totally streaky, and my sides, hips, and feet were completely dry, no color at all. I learned my lesson, Versa is the only machine worth using. I won't be going back to this location. read more

I was going to another salon for awhile so I have some experience with indoor tanning. it was a good thing I did when I started coming to this one. the person does not ask for eye wear or to fill out a form when you go in first time. what if I was pale white and walked in to use the bed? I have thought long and hard about writing this review. I have been in and had a good experience, but it is rare. The facility is gross. Clearly the owner/manager doesn't care about this place. There are wires hanging everywhere, huge chips in paint, cracks/gaps in the floor, buckled and discolored floor, and extremely dim lighting (to the point of not being able to really see in the rooms, which may be a good thing because I'm sure they are dirty). Some rooms have 'sound systems' (a cd player that the buttons are broken and hard to work) where the speakers on the wall look like they attempted to take out but changed their mind. Their seating in the lobby is so nasty and worn I wouldn't sit on it. They have screws hanging out of the wall where broken frames used to be. Everything is taped or stapled to the walls or windows. The hours on the door are wrong, and their sign in the parking lot is for a different tanning salon. The beds seem to kind of work. Their highest level bed has been down every since I started going months ago. They are always out of something for the spray tan (foot stickers, hair nets, or baby wipes, but I don't recommend either of their spray tans anyways). If you want some products go in when they get them (which in the months that I have been there was once). They get cleaned out fast, but that is because they really don't seem to ever restock. I suggest the owner put some money into making the location look top notch and maybe it actually will be. Although these are things that I started to notice after my first experience their, I went a few more times due to location and already putting money on an account. The costumer service has truly varied when i have been there. I have never had a good experience with any of the men that work there. They are either pushing me to buy something I don't want or when I do try to buy something they know absolutely nothing and are not helpful. The girls that work their are nice, but I felt that only one of them (the one that is pregnant) actually knew what she was doing and talking about. She actually tried to get to know me, we talked for a long time and she helped me pick out a product I really like. I could tell she enjoyed her job (which no one else seems to). I would really highly recommend not going to this location, it is gross, dirty, and the service is 90% of the time horrible. If you do go in, ask for Kayla (she is the one that is pregnant, but I know she is almost due so she probably isn't going to be there for long). She gives high quality service, but the facility really isn't worth it. read more
