I eat chicken dinner on Fridays and this is my go-to place. I like the seasonings, the portions, and the options. All meals are packaged as take-away whether you eat in the restaurant or not. It's a smart(er) idea since it saves asking for a doggie bag. The establishment is smaller and sometimes people sit at tables when they are waiting for their take-away order. There is not waitstaff so one needs to come to the register when the order number is called. This is not an unfamiliar practice in many restaurants that cater to service that offers both eat in or take-away. And yes, the restaurant has minimal staff, but I have never felt that my wait time was long and I have always found the person at the register to be familiar with the menu and fully able to explain what some of the foods were that were unknown to me. This is my first time trying L&L Barbecue chain. We bought takeaway of two plates, a Loco Moco and Garlic Shrimp. The taste was okay, but the portion is not big. They look so much different from the pictures. In the picture, the Loco Moco plate has two eggs and bigger patties, there was only one egg; for the Garlic Shrimp, there's Macaroni Salad and lemons in the picture, but they came with no Macaroni Salad and lemons in real life. The beef was a bit dry and the short ribs were more oily than other places I've tried. Chicken was okay too not too dry but wasn't juicy or exceptional. Steamed veggies were actually nicely steamed.. spam musubi with egg was good too. Inside is nothing to write about. I'm from out of town and came in for lunch and the cashier which was a Mexican man very helpful and kind. The service was awesome. Got a drink with my order and the soda was good. The only thing that sucks is there's no restroom. The walls could use a little cleaning, but other than that the food was delicious. I was drawn in by the poster at the front advertising a spam musubi special and so I went in to go check it out. I was most interested by the variety of musubis they offer and ordered the Katsu Chicken musubi, Portuguese sausage musubi, and the original Spam musubi. The service was super fast and the store wasn't very crowded. There were indoor and outdoor tables so we sat outside. The chicken katsu was my personal favorite. It was crispy and flavorful and a unique twist on original musubi. The Portuguese sausage was also pretty good and had nice flavor. However, the spam musubi was a little lacking in freshness, and the seaweed and rice tasted a little cold. Overall, pretty nice small store. Great Hawaiian option close to old town Pasadena! I was looking for a "lighter" (on the wallet) option that was still substantial in taste and filling. I saw a Hawaiian place close by and wanted to try it out! This is a chain so it has a corporate website with location info and menus. However you have to go through the delivery platforms to order; menus have no prices from the website and even the store hours are wrong (but Yelp as of today 2/13/23) has the correct hours posted. There are specials posted. Today was the chicken katsu sandwich. I also wanted a spam musubi and they had a spam and egg I wanted to try. I actually wanted to get a loco moco since the Uber Eats price was under $10 but coming in the store the posted price is higher. Maybe it's a different portion size. The staff was friendly. They were trying to fulfill the pickup orders but they started to call my order to the kitchen before they were ready to ring my order. That's nice to keep the kitchen moving! The problem here, is the food inconsistency: some days great or terrible (burnt BBQ/undercooked fatty chicken). You just have to stop by on the right day I suppose. Portion sizes are good for one serving, but they are not as depicted as the photos on their website. Macaroni salad is nice and creamy, not really any other toppings in there to really taste because the macaroni. Rice has been fine too, on the softer side but not mushy. Seafood combo - the shrimp is very crunchy but maybe a smidge over fried? Beef shorts were tasty and decently tender. Beef plate - very generous amount of beef, a little too charred but everything else was consistent. The beef itself could be dressed a little more in terms of sauce but not saltiness. Place a phone order and only waited 10-15 minutes. The person who took my order was very helpful and efficient when taking my order. Upon arrival the associate who took my order via phone was also the cashier to which she was also efficient and charismatic in person. The food was still hot when I arrived home and tasted great. We recently visited the Pasadena area and picked up some L&L Hawaiian Barbecue to take back to our hotel room. We eat at the L&L in our hometown in San Diego regularly. I am Hawaiian, so L&L is the closest to local food we can get around here. After several days of eating burgers in and hot dogs in theme parks, I need some RICE!!! Driving into our hotel I noticed this location just 3 blocks away! Score! I visited on a Saturday evening, just about 9PM. They were closing at 10PM. It is a very small location compared to the one I normally got to, but it was clean and the worker was very nice and friendly. My kids ordered their normal, spam musubi and french fries. My wife and I ordered our Loco Moco and a Spam Saimin. What really impressed me where 3 things. #1 - Everytime I have ever ordered Saimin, to-go...it comes in a Styrofoam bowl with the noddles and the broth all in the same bowl. At this location, my broth and noddles were separated into 2 different containers. This was awesome, because the noddles didn't get soggy and I was able to warm the broth up in the microwave to make it hot before pouring it onto my noddles. #2 - The mac salad was so good. This is the one thing that I don't normally like from our local L&L. But this one was perfect and I wish I would have ordered a second scoop, but I didn't anticipate it tasting good. #3 - The gravy on the loco moco was one of the best I've had. It was think and full of flavor. This is another area the is always hit or miss at our normal spot. Pasadena was such a lovely town and this L&L location will be my spot if I ever find ourselves traveling in that area again. Mahalo L&L Pasadena. Job well done! read more

I wouldn't necessarily call it health food, but I wouldn't say it's unhealthy either. I think out of all the meats, the chicken was my favorite. This was also the case at the other place I went to. I waited over 20 minutes for my order. Then I came home and found out some of my bbq chicken was not even fully cooked and the parts that were cooked were bland. It's concerning that they would serve undercooked food to customers. Additionally, their customer service needs improvement, I heard someone from the back say that it takes awhile to make musubi. I mean seriously they were handing out my musubi before anything else in my order. Also as someone who's from the island and has made musubi multiple times in the past.
