The neighborhood--which has been my neighborhood for 19 years--has always been, let's see how do I say this, dull & ugly, but now since the Walgreen's closed a few months ago it's been on life-support, a semi-wasteland. Always wanted to try this place and finally got a chance to on a whim. Parking is metered street and isn't that hard to find. My first tip is to definitely order ahead of time. They seem to be always busy. Also there is like one table inside so basically plan for take out. Employees were friendly and courteous which was great. It is really close to the glorious Lake Merritt in Oakland. Parking is really tight and is kind of in a sketch area. When you leave you car, make sure you hide anything (that's just a tip in general). As soon as you walk in, there is an extensive menu with everything they have ( various burritos, chicken, fish, and of course steak fries). They have a large poster that describes what a Tiger Shrimp is as well. For about $12 I had the steal and shrimp fries. The shrimp was plump and juicy and there was a well balanced amount of fries, steak etc. The owners Im assuming, were really nice. I go to the nail shop next door and typically come here after and haven't had any problems. But today when I got my usual, nachos, I noticed there was mold on the shredded cheese that he puts on top. So naturally I went back, my intention was to get it remade because I'd never had this issue before and it could have been an honest mistake, but once I brought it to his attention he acted as if he didn't see it and claimed it was the lettuce that is always put on the bottom that I hadn't even gotten to yet since I'd only had one bite. So I just asked for a refund, he made me wait and I'm assuming because there were people ordering he tried to make a scene and at that point I wish I'd taken pictures. What I like to order are the jumbo prawns. I love how they devein & butterfly/flatten the shrimp. I think I got 10 to an order. This is your typical hole in the wall spot that every neighborhood has, and I'm glad this one is in mines. They have a variety of food to choose from including fish and chips, burritos and tacos, cheese steak, and wings. I've learned that phoning in your order is the best way to go because the wait can be up to 30 minutes depending on what you order and there's hardly anywhere to sit down. The lady that runs the place is always friendly and always has a smile on her face. No matter what you do, you have to get their shrimp and steak cheese fries with sour cream and jalapenos!
