The staff is kind and does a great job making children feel comfortable. However, the orthodontic side has been frustrating. Orthodontic appointments are only offered on select days each month, making it very difficult to reschedule if a conflict arises. Because of the limited availability, appointments often feel overbooked and rushed. I believe expanding orthodontic clinic days would greatly improve the patient experience. The wait times can also be excessive. I've waited over an hour past my son's scheduled appointment before he was seen, particularly during after-school hours and weekends. My biggest concern came during my son's most recent orthodontic appointment. Although the orthodontist was friendly and knowledgeable, there was very little communication with me as the parent. The treatment and adjustments were explained only to my 11-year-old son, and I was not informed about what was being done, why it was being done, or what had changed before the appointment ended. I eventually had to ask the dental assistant for an explanation, and the dental assistant was very helpful in answering my questions. As a parent, I expect to be included in discussions about my child's treatment plan and any changes made during the visit. Better communication would go a long way in making parents feel informed and involved in their child's care. Overall, I think the orthodontist is skilled, and the office does a wonderful job serving families. My hope is simply that they increase orthodontic availability, reduce wait times, and improve communication with parents during appointments.

I was a loyal customer for the last 12 years since my son was first able to get dental work done. He is now almost 16. It's probably not a big deal losing 1 customers. I had a bad experience today when I called in to see if I could change my son's appointment. I live in LA, I work in Long Beach, my son goes to school in LA, and we travel to South Pasadena for his cleanings and dental work with Dr. Joe. I always try and get the last appointment for the day for my son as I don't want him to miss school, I also need to take 1-2 hours off early to travel from Long Beach to LA to pick up my son from school and then to South Pasadena to make the afternoon's appointment. I called in today to see if I could do a last minute change from Thursday (4/25/2024 - see the picture of the card I received 6 months ago) to tomorrow, Wednesday, 4/24/2024 because LAUSD had a day off, I also took the day off for another reason so both my son and I would be free if there was an availability tomorrow. Come to find out, the lady who picked up the phone today said that I did not have an appointment in the books for 4/25/2024 and that she could not find an appointment. I mentioned a few times to her I have this card in my appointment book for 4/25/2024 at 430pm and inquired on why there was no appointment. After a bit of back and forth, she said that everyone that was scheduled for 4/25/2024 was contacted and notified that the doctor would not be in. I asked her again, who was the person to notify me because I did not get any notifications (luckily I called today to inquire about a date change or else I would have showed up Thursday for an appointment I did not have). She then said that Dr. Joe would not be in Thursday and that I could book another appointment with her and that everyone was notified (apparently not everyone). I left it at that and hung up (she did sound irritated) but I left it at that. After hanging up the phone, I called my primary dentistry and was able to book my son for a Saturday appointment and insurance information would be completed when I came in. I called Dr. Joe's line back and advised the same lady on the phone that I was not too happy with the cancellation, and she stated that I could just rebook with her for another date, I never received an apology from her for the no notification of the cancellation for 4/25/24. I mentioned to her that I did not need to rebook anymore and that I would be taking my son elsewhere moving forward. I was loyal for many years, but unfortunately, I have to take my money somewhere else. I felt like she was irritated and condescending towards the end of the conversation before we hung up. Phone conversations today took place around 4-430pm. Good luck Dr. Joe, you're one of the nicest pediatric dentists out there.

We decided to try out Parklane because of their marketing and outreach - they did presentations at…read moreour son's preschool. For a place that's supposedly committed to pediatric dentistry, Parklane sure makes it difficult for kids to be seen. The pediatric dentist is only available on Wednesdays, which is probably where most of our issues arose. During our 4yo son's cleaning/checkup in April 2026, we were told that he may need a tooth extraction soon or the infection in one of his teeth might spread to his other teeth. We decided not to schedule the extraction at that time as we needed to think about it and the timing of the procedure. A month later, in May 2026, our son was complaining of the tooth pain, so we called to schedule the appointment to pull the tooth, only to be told that an appointment won't be available until August 2026. That seems an awful long time to wait to pull an infected tooth, but apparently, 3 months is the earliest availability. We brought our 1yo daughter in for her cleaning and exam. It took 1.5 hours, and of that, 1 hour and 15 min was waiting. Waiting in the lobby ~25 min to be admitted. In the room, waiting for 55+ min to be seen. Even with nonstop bluey loop (not full episodes, but a YouTube loop of random clips), our toddler was going nuts and so were we. I had to go move the car at some point, which I guess is when the dentist came in and did the cleaning (hubby said it took at most 10 min). You'd think that pediatric dentists, especially the ones who see younger patients, would understand the need for timeliness with energetic toddlers. We're switching dentists now, crossing our fingers that the paperwork transfer will go smoothly.
