I originally found this place from tacolandia 2016 and their lamb barbacoa was amazing! So I have been here only twice at the moment and every time it's been great. They start off with fideo soup, chips, verde and the BEST roja salsas, which you can taste that time went into them. Really smoky, textured and very spicy! The barbacoa with consome is delicious, you get handmade tortillas (not to think or thin, great flavor) beans, rice is the best deal, great portion, you will leave satisfied. Clearly the lamb is the star, it's just soo tender and flavorful. The mixiote is good also with not a spicy peppery paste, but you don't get too much meat and some bones. I grew up in Mexico and I have eaten barbacoa in many places in Puebla, Hidalgo, Veracruz, and Mexico City to name a few. The barbacoa we tried today is among the best I ever tried. It was perfectly cooked with the authentic flavor that only slow cook in agave leaves can provide. Tortillas were freshly made and not dried up as in many places that claim to have hand made tortillas. I had an oatmeal pulque curado that was delicious with real pulque not the canned version served in other places. Overall this was a delicious barbacoa meal and the services was very friendly. Place has great service. Sweetest staff. Good food and they have PULQUE!!! Pulque is an alcoholic juice drink that is usually only found in Central Mexico. It is super fresh but spoils fast which is why it's rare to find outside of Central Mexico. This is the only place in LA that I know has this treasured drink. As far as food, the green salsa is one of the best I've ever had and the tortillas of course here are fresh. Our meal came with a starter of fideo soup which is typically basic at most Mexican restaurants... this one was packed with flavor and I was practically licking the bowl. I was in the area looking for some good food! Now usual the hole in the wall in a not so great area is where I find the best authentic food. I aslo saw great reviews so I was excited. Yet I was so sad to leave so disappointing!! Our waitress/server was extremely rude. She was picking on my 13 yr old niece. My niece ordered in Spanish, but she speaks very low and her Spanish is not that great. Well automatically she became upset and raised her voice at me and my sister to help her. My niece is old enough to order for herself! I am going to start off the our drinks. We got two micheladas, an Horchata and a Jamaica. The michelada tasted like water with pepper. It had no absolute flavor at all. The horchata was ok, but AMPM is even better than theirs lol. I will say the Jamaica was very good tho. Now for food, waste of complete money!!! We ordered a torta de carne asada, three tacos de carne asada, quesadilla de carne asada, a consome, and enchiladas verdes. The torta wasn't that great. The tacos had no season at all. The quesadilla was ok.. NOW for the enchiladas the lady practically had us order the green ones because she insisted they tasted better and she commented how it was her preference. Well we gave it a try because she works their so I assumed she was giving us a tip.. WRONG the sauce tasted like straight watered down can sauce. No one of ate them. The rice and beans were just not good at all either.. then when she brought us the quesadilla she made a mistake and brought out a bistek plate. We informed her it was a quesadilla and she said " NO era bistek, es para la niña" I told her no she got the quesdilla.. and she still on insisted it being right.! I had to tell her NO it was a quesadilla. Very rudely she took the plate back and finally brought her food. Overall the jamaica was the only good thing. Glad to have stepped into this place a few mornings ago. I had the Mixiote which was soooo good. They were right the spicy paste of chile's was definitely something I dig. This is a small and welcoming place. I stopped by in the morning for some breakfast. The green chilaquiles did not dissapoint and were especially good. I also tried the carne asada torta which was yummy, except for the fact that they don't chop the asada up. Big let down when I took a bite and the entire piece of asada came out. I brought my son here because he wanted to try the pulque- an alcoholic drink made from the maguey plant. I drank a michelada which was tasty and refreshing. We ordered a barbacoa taco, a gordita de chicharon and carne asada tacos. The barbacoa was nice and tender. The chicharon was prepared differently from how I'm used to eating it but it was good. My son really liked the carne asada tacos. The tortillas and gordita pockets are made by hand and yummy. The consummé they serve before the meal was a bit too bland for my liking as was the green salsa. The red salsa was delish and tasted like the salsa my mom used to make for posole. We come here very often since it's the only place we've found that has barbacoa and it's actually pretty close to what we had back at home.
