What a cute bakery tucked away in Creve Coeur! I went on a Thursday afternoon and it was so busy! They have more choice in macarons than I've ever seen, you seriously want to try them all! I ended up with the tiramisu flavor (my favourite), blueberry and strawberry. Their croissants are so delicious as well- they have ample choice and provide both sweet and savory options. My husband and I are from out of state but we had to come to the St. Louis area for a doc's appt. but it was on our daughter's birthday. When we were finished at the doc, I did a Yelp search for bakeries to get my daughter a treat for her birthday. We found BB and it was close by so we tried it. We had a pleasant lunch. I had a cup of French onion soup and the Mediterrean chicken salad and my husband had the same soup and an omelet. My salad was not spectacular but it was HUGE! I didn't care for the Greek dressing that came with it so I requested balsamic vinaigrette which they brought me promptly. My husband enjoyed his omelet with seasonal vegetables which in this case was green beans. But the very best part of the experience was dessert!! We had to get on the road so we found a beautiful white chocolate vanilla mousse cake for our daughter and bought an almond pastry and lemon danish to enjoy on our way home. Did we ever enjoy them! For our cousin's lunch get together, La Bonne Bouchee was chosen as the place to try. There were six of us and even though we didn't make reservations and our entire party wasn't there yet, we were quickly seated. Drinks were brought and orders were placed. I went with the les crepes aux fruits de mer et aux epinards. Those are fancy words for a seafood crepe with spinach and sauce. The entree I ordered came with either soup or salad so I chose the soup of the day-cream of mushroom. It was delicious with large slices of mushrooms. I was also surprised at how delicious my crepe was and for a half order, it was quite filling. It came with butternut squash cubes that were also quite tasty. Before I left I stopped in the bakery to buy some mini muffins for a hostess gift. (I feel I can't rate it as a bakery since I have never eaten anything from there.). Dessert? Someone twisted my arm and the dessert tray held a beautiful array of cakes and pies. I chose the lemon cake and it melted in your mouth. Would I come back here? Update: After waiting in line for 45 minutes, I was told, the custom cake I had ordered ahead and prepaid for was missing. I was incredibly disappointed in this business and how they handled my order that I placed the day prior. This is a ready-made bakery -- so ordering ahead is what I did to ensure I would have the cake for the birthday party I was planning. They offered to hold the cake until the next day to ensure it remained fresh. What they failed to mention is -- I'd have to wait in a line of 30 people who were placing their order, to PICK UP my cake. If they had told me that, I would have just stopped in earlier in the day of the party to order. Instead I stopped in an hour before I needed it thinking it would be like every other order ahead experience I've had. I recommend having a pick up area for those that have ordered and paid, rather than requiring that they wait in line TWICE. So I've finally finished my assortment of 17 different macaroons. Some were tastier than others, I particularly enjoyed the bluberry, chocolate coconut, pistachio, Nutella, lavender, rose, Macha tea, red velvet & chocolate. I did not care for the pumpkin (lacked flavor), earl grey (bland) salted caramel, tropical, tiramisu, boysenberry, lemon (tasted like fruit loops cereal) & mint. Don't get me wrong, they were all edible and extremely cute but where some had the perfect airy shell and soft inside construction, others where hard shell hollow inside. Hollow macaroons indicate a baker's error and should be tossed rather than sold. I like my macaroons fluffy inside La Bonne Bouchee. I realize it takes skill to make the perfect macaroon but if your establishment specializes in macaroons I expect perfection. Gonna give the place another twirl. read more

Think: croissant-like and tasty when loaded with real whipped butter. The spinach with lemon and asiago quiche du jour was perfectly golden-brown, with just the right amount of lemon. Cheesy and delicious. I would have preferred a crispier roasted rosemary potato. Not a fan of soft roasted potatoes. I want them nicely browned and crispy on the outside with an almost creamy inside. Instead, I had potatoes that were soft, not crispy. Not a fan. Hubby ordered a waffle and it was loaded with fresh berries: blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries. I went with a few of my friends, and we each got a couple of slices of their cake and shared, so I was able to sample about 10 different flavors they had. I think that the flavor is relatively mild, and so if that's your preference, you'd probably like this place. I personally prefer stronger flavors, and after trying the 10 or so different slices, I left with the feeling that they were not as different in variety as I had hoped. I really love St. Louis and places like these are why. Best little bakery around. Where the food and service are equally as amazing. The owner welcomed us as if we were old friends. One of those interactions that leaves you feeling good the rest of your day. He was like that the entire time we were there. You could tell he really cared! We had a few different types of croissants, the coffee, and their amazing French onion soup. The French onion soup was really hearty! Definitely one of my favorites and the Swiss cheese on top was great. My favorite of the croissants was the feta and spinach. Definitely the best spinach croissant I've ever had. The filling was so tasty and a perfect combination. Also that particular one along with the ham and cheese were huge! My boyfriend had the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant and really liked that too. Coffee was delicious and fresh. It says something when the couple behind me drives all the way from Illinois 3-4 times a month JUST to eat here. If this was just a review for their desserts and pastries, this would be a five star review, hands down. They have DOZENS of varieties of macaroons. I've tried maybe five or six and they are delightful! Perfectly light, flavorful without being too sugary sweet or overwhelming. The lime and passionfruit have been two of my favorites so far. The meringues are also incredible, melt-in-your-mouth amazing. Once I tried a piece of their Godiva chocolate cheesecake; my tastebuds thought they had died and gone to heaven. Today, a colleague brought in their german chocolate cake for the office to share. I don't even usually like german chocolate cake, but even I can admit this was divine. The frosting is just perfect! Rich without being too heavy. The above is all why it pains me that I can't leave a five star review. A couple of weeks ago, I went here for dinner with my boyfriend. After we had been in a couple of times for sweets only, we couldn't wait to try a meal. I was just so disappointed! I got a crepe with a lobster cream sauce, and it was just not good! It was ultra heavy in a bad way and had no decent flavor. The service was fine, but if my review was for dinner only, it would be two, maybe three stars. We had an early dinner here, and since I wasn't too hungry at the time, I opted for a salad of chicken salad. It was pretty basic, with a scoop of chicken salad atop mixed greens and a couple egg and tomato wedges. I asked for dressing on the side, but got it on top. Whomp whomp. Also, none of the place settings had forks, and the waiter kind of gave me a look when I asked him for forks. It was a little odd that the 2 cups of french onion soup were served literally 10-15 minutes before our entrees came out (which included the salad, 2 other bowls of french onion, and a sandwich). I would reco the french onion soup. It was thick, hearty, flavorful, and definitely not shy on the cheese! On our way out, we picked up an assortment of sweet treats, including a raspberry lemon cake slice, lavender macaron, and red velvet truffle. Impressive that La Bonne puts out over 60 flavors of macarons! At that rate though, all of them cannot be in tip top freshest shape on a daily basis, and the outside of my mac was crunchier and not as fresh as I would've liked. read more

This review is for the Bakery and Patisserie side of La Bonne Bouchée Café. When you walk into the store, the display cases make your mouth water. How can anyone choose just one treat when you have multiple cases displaying dozens of cakes, macaroons, croissants, tarts, meringues, cookies, and other sweets? Well, you can't. That's why you (I) get enough to fill a box. Personally, I found croissant heaven. Lots of other reviews have focused on the amazing selection of macaroons they offer - it's true, they do - but I love the buttery, delicate, baked goodness of their croissants. My favorite is the Cinnamon Cream Cheese Croissant - oh my goodness! It has a delicate buttery dough and a not too sweet cream cheese filling that is topped with a light sprinkling of cinnamon sugar that crunches a bit with each bite. It's heavenly! So if the bakery is heaven, then the wait staff are angels. They were helpful in describing the treats and quickly taking care of everyone in line. Reviewing only the bakery. I have not eaten here. However, everything I've ever ordered from the bakery has been superb. Red velvet cake, dark chocolate "ruffle" cake, fruit tart, etc. have been consistently moist and beautifully executed. They are expensive and absolutely worth it. Today, we also ordered a box of assorted macarons. I don't eat these due to a nut allergy but those who did eat them praised them highly. On that note, I asked the counter person if there were nuts in the red velvet cake. (There aren't.) Later on in the order when I also asked for macarons, she gently offered that they were made with almonds. She was looking out for me! I didn't eat here but picked up an order of macaroons and sugar cookies. Their decorated sugar cookies and pistachio macaroons are guaranteed crowd pleasers. As usual, I was served quickly even though it was really busy. The macaroons are expensive but worth every penny. Their sugar cookies aren't nearly as pricey per weight and are beautifully decorated (with many choices of style). I forgot to take a pic of this order but found a photo of a previous one.
