Thank you Chuk V for suggesting the carnitas. Far too many Mexican joints pull their unnaturally perfect cubes of slow cooked pork from a freezer bag before dropping them in the deep fryer. Not La Botana. Take a moment and go look at the picture. Go on, the review will still be here after you're done there. I had three hunks of crispy slow cooked pork awesomeness, each the size of a child's fist. These were generous pieces carved off a pork shoulder in the back, not some pre-packaged chicanery. I have been lulled into complacency far too many times and had my heart broken by mediocrity. Pork shoulder deserves better. Carnitas are the way to get a Southern barbecue lover to appreciate Mexican flavors. The pork alone was awesome enough, but in addition I was pleasantly surprised by how good the beans were. Someone back there learned from Mom what beans need in order to not be something skipped over on the plate in favor of more chips. The rest was pretty forgettable, but I will certainly be back for the carnitas. A friend of mine lives super close to La Botana and suggested a group of us go there for margaritas one Thursday night. I am the biggest fan of frozen strawberry margaritas - and they offer margaritas by the PITCHER here - so I couldn't say no. Their parking lot was packed when I got there around 6 pm. Inside, however, wasn't too busy. There weren't nearly enough people in the restaurant to account for all of the cars outside. I wondered where everyone went after parking there... Haha. Our group of about 10 decided that it would be best to sit outside in their patio area. This was perfect because they didn't seem to have enough seating for our group inside, but their "covered" patio-area was fairly empty. We started with a pitcher of their regular margarita. I thought it was alright, but I'm not a fan of margaritas on the rocks. I like the blended, frozen kind - and it has to be strawberry. So the next 2 pitchers were frozen strawberry. Yay! I have to admit, the strawberry margarita had a funky aftertaste, but it was probably the tequila that they used in it. Not sure what kind, but there seemed to be a good amount of tequila in the margarita. I was very satisfied with it! Their complimentary chips and salsa are good. They're not the fresh, homemade tortilla chips, but I still thought they were good, and the salsa was great. I could barely taste the cilantro, which is a HUGE plus for me! =) For my entree, I got the Carne Asada Burrito. I asked the server if they put cilantro in it, and he said no. Score! The burrito was huge, and it comes with a bit of sour cream and guacamole with shredded lettuce and rice. I was impressed! Since it's covered in a green sauce, you have to use a knife and fork to eat it. The steak and other good stuff inside the burrito was flavored really nicely. It was delicious! It was the best Mexican burrito I've had in Atlanta so far (Chipotle, which is my FAVORITE, doesn't count as "authentic")! Overall, I feel that La Botana deserves 4 stars! My husband and I really enjoy coming here. It's a friendly, neighborhood restaurant with huge portions of stick-to-your-ribs food at extremely reasonable prices, good margaritas and a joyful, helpful staff. Dishes I'm especially a fan of: - nachos la botana - t-bone ranchero - churros :D I noticed they have many regulars - families, elderly, young professionals. I noticed a waiter hugging an elderly woman dining by herself. It was lovely. The atmosphere is bustling, loud and there's normally sports on the TVs. There always seems to be a lot of laughter. I'm a occasional carry out guest.. this was my first dine in experience.. The restaurant is Busy..actually it always is during happy hour and a little after. I live across the street so I always notice. I was immediately greeted by the owner and seated. Then immediately given chips and salsa. Let me pause by saying it was really good. It had a nice little spice to it. Spicier than most. My server Sergio was nice but very distracted focusing on his other tables. I guess because it was the busy time of day. He was unaware that I was trying to ask additional questions. This is not a bad thing but left me feeling as if I wasn't that important Or this was the type of customer he's used to dealing with. It took me a few minutes to decide what I want it. I know I needed to eat as much protein as possible yet have a delicious supper. I decided on the deep fried steak and bean burrito. I apologize, I forgot the name of it. It was a nine dollar dinner. It came with rice, guacamole and a little bit of sour cream & lettuce. It was yummy!! To complement, I had a house margarita with no salt. It also was just right! No headache the day after! My food came quick and overall, I enjoyed my experience. I gave this place a try based on a recommendation from someone, and because I am new to the Chamblee area and it is right down the street; it was also National Margarita Day! I went on a Friday night with my roommate around 7:30, and the place was packed. There was a line almost out the door. We got there just in time, before it got really packed (where the line was actually about to be out the door). We only had to wait for about 15-20 minutes for a table. The time went by fast! This restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating has a screened in fence. Because it was rainy and cold the night of my visit, we ate inside. The inside of the restaurant is on the smaller side. I actually wish it was bigger for the amount of people that were in there AND the amount people waiting. There were no seats. Usually that is a sign that the food is GOOD. When we were seated, we were immediately given chips and salsa. Our waitress came soon after and got us started with drinks. Margaritas!!! I ordered a small frozen strawberry margarita and my roommate ordered a medium peach margarita on the rocks. They were absolutely delicious! And a great price and nice size. I looked at the menu while sipping my margarita and decided to order the chicken fajita quesadilla. It came with Spanish rice, pico, and an avocado salad with lettuce and sour cream. It was ABSOLUTELY delicious! The chicken was seasoned perfectly and the onions, peppers, and all the cheese goodness took it to the top! The Spanish rice was so good as well. My roommate ordered the taco combination plate which came with 2 hard beef tacos, Spanish rice, and refried beans. She also ordered a chicken burrito, and it looked very tasty. She enjoyed it. Everything was seasoned perfectly! The service at this restaurant was extremely pleasant, and everyone was in their zone to get people seated and taken care of. I'm really surprised that I didn't write a review about this place sooner but you know they say good things come to those who wait. I have been coming to this restaurant for a couple of years. An old friend of mine took me here and I've been hooked from the first bite. First let me start by saying the prices here are very reasonable. You can get a pitcher of Texas margarita for like $18 frozen or on the rocks. A friend and I shared one the other night and it definitely took me to a good place. I believe a glass of regular margarita is like $4.25. I'm never disappointed by the drinks I receive at this establishment. One of my favorite things to order is their soft shell chicken tacos. They're considered a side item and at $1.50 a piece they are quite a steal! They never skimp on the cheese or the chicken so when I order 2 or 3, they usually fill me up. I also LOVE the Cancun salad they offer. I get mine with no mushrooms or cucumbers and extra green olives (in case you want to order me one). The shrimp and onions on there are so flavorful that I never even need dressing on it. I just let the salad do what it does on its own. The chips and salsa here are great, especially if you like spicy. I always have to continually get my salsa bowl refilled and it tastes really good when you pour some on the chicken tacos. My coworkers and I order food to go from here all the time and they almost always get our orders right. They are typically really quick. When we call in an order, it's ready in 15 minutes even with all of the add-ons and specifications they make (you know how WE do lol). This is definitely one of my favorite Mexican restaurants! Definitely glad I finally tried La Botana! The service was great, the salsa was really tasty, and the menu had a good variety. I got the chicken tortilla soup with avocado and it was delicious! It was really filling too with all of the rice they put in it. My husband got the flautas and he really enjoyed it also. The tamale was okay... wasn't the best I've had but it wasn't bad. Maybe I'm biased because of its close proximity to my house (3-5 min. drive), but I really like this place. Honestly, we found it completely on accident one night, when we wanted to get some cheap, but close, Tex-Mex food. Service here has been pretty spotty. When they are busy, they tend to forget about you. When you are outside on the patio, they tend to forget about you. Even when they aren't super crowded, service is pretty lax. The servers, when they come around, are polite and attentive. This place is much better as a meeting place to hang out with friends than to get a quick bite, is what I am getting at. I still tip the servers well because the food is good, and I'm not an asshole. The real standout in terms of the food here, would definitely be the fajitas. I'm not sure if I've ever had fajitas that were this cheap, and this delicious. Let's just say, I came here and a couple weeks later, my boss took us out to a Mexican place to eat and I got fajitas there. They were $22, and the seasoning and meats were nowhere near the quality of La Botana. And I think the fajitas here are $12-13? Somewhere around that cost. I usually order the one with all the meats (steak, chicken, shrimp), and every time, it's been so expertly seasoned. Anyone who cooks knows that being able to properly season something is extremely important. Too little and it's incredibly bland, too much, and all you can taste are the spices. This place does it right. And what's sort of insane to me, is that they do it right for every kind of meat. The chicken is tender and perfectly cooked, the beef is well seasoned and juicy, and even the shrimp has the perfect amount of give to it. With the fajitas, you also get Spanish rice and refried beans. The Spanish rice is moist and flavorful, which would be important to you too, if you've ever had some that was dry and flavorless. The refried beans are also wonderful and well-seasoned. PROS: -Free salsa. It's really tasty salsa, too, which is always a plus. -Heated outside patio. For some reason a lot of people who rather sit inside, but it was warm when we were last there. -SUPER close to my house. I could walk there in 15-20 minutes, if I wanted. -Generous portions of food for a relatively cheap price. CONS: -Spotty service. -When the parking lot is full, there isn't anywhere else to park but at the next door Taco Bell. THE VERDICT: Delicious (and free!) salsa and chips. Decent service, if a bit slow at times. The real standout, however, would be the fajitas here. Clearly, they have that down pat. I keep meaning to come and try something else, but the fajitas call to me very acutely. I've even eaten their fajitas twice in one week before, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Often, you will find this place completely packed, which is always a good sign. Especially since it looks like such a hole-in-the-wall from the outside. read more

Friday and Saturday night is really busy, which says a lot about the demand of this restaurant. Great local spot! On the negative, it is really out dated. The tables are wobbly and some of the booth seats need new springs. The decor is plain and old. The layout is funky since it used to be a Hardee's or Burger King. Everyone has their one tex mex spot that they can depend on. La Botana is that spot for me. I have been a customer for over a decade and cannot recall a bad meal there. The family that owns the restaurant are always friendly and are so kind to my children. We are there two or three times a month, so the employees have watched my children grow up. My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try due to the amount of cars always in the parking lot and it's close proximity to my apartment. We were sat quickly and served our waters along with chips and salsa. I could just sit there and eat that the whole time. I've been there twice, ordering a chicken and rice plate the first and a burrito the second. Personally I forget to tell them no cheese just because they put A LOT OF Cheese on top. Yay. Oh my gosh the amount of food you get for the price is unbeatable. The combo meal was about 11 dollars but he got about five plates and many samples. The Margarita is strong so it's worth the money. I went to this place from a request from the co-worker and the good did not disappoint. The food was delicious, I had the Chilaquiles Mexicano with shrimp (don't eat chicken) and it was exceptional. The shrimp was silent and the sauce was not too heavy as many traditional Mexican restaurants I have been to. The customer service was ok. He didn't come to refill my water nor did he ask my co-workers for more drinks or any dessert but hey the good was good. The restroom was small but ladies there is only one stall in the restroom and the entrance does not have a lock but the stall does??? The locations is open and not in a high traffic district. The atmosphere was definitely family oriented even with the alcohol.overall, I would come back to enjoy a meal with friends. read more

This has been my go to "Mexican joint" for years! Most of the friends that I have roped into joining me for cheese dip and ritas immediately whined about the curb appeal, but quickly ate their words. Dinner of choice you might ask?! The Cancun Margarita, on the rocks, w/salt is a good place to start. There is nothing fancy about the margaritas....but the pour them strong and they serve them fast. Within five minutes of staking claim on a booth you will have chips, salsa, cheese dip and a tasty beverage. The pablano (add chicken) is my favorite item on the menu, but I have yet to come across a disappointing plate at La Botana. Alex and the rest of the staff are friendly and are always eager to keep the cerveza cold and on the table. :-) If you live in Chamblee/Dunwoody and have not stopped in after work...give it a whirl and then tell me what you think! ; ) ps....the patrons are a nice mix.
