I've been wanting to try La Bou for some time but after trying it today, I have no desire to go back. It's a very simple cafe where you order at the counter. I ordered a ham and cheese panini. Just ham, just cheese. For $8, i received the smallest square of an unappetizing looking sandwich. It was incredibly flat with barely any ham or cheese in it at all. Perhaps i got totally the wrong thing. The salads looked decent and the sweets looked super yummy. It was below average for me and way overpriced for what I actually got. Cashier made no eye contact, never asked any questions confirming my order. She gave me regular Coke instead of Diet while I was looking for change to pay, and also the wrong dessert, order one specifically (dairy sensitivity). Something has changed here. I don't know if there is a new owner. I have been coming here for 15+ years The sandwich contents have decreased. I ordered a Vegetarian on Sourdough. I asked for extra tomato and cucumber. It has always been free. Suddenly now there is a .75 cents charge for an extra cucumber and another .75 cents for a extra tomato slice. I spoke up politely and the manager said as long as "it's just one slice then I won't charge you this time." See the picture for the result. When I got my $8.00 sandwich, it was ridiculous. It's almost as if they put less. I spoke to the manager again and he laughed and said that he came from the Granite Bay store so things must be different here. He said that is how they must do it and that is out of his control. He never offered to fix it. This was really sad because I have been coming here so long. I have lots of friends that go here too. All employees are wearing their mask improperly. All five employees working have their noses hanging out of the mask with the mask barely on. This store is not following health code restrictions and has all spoons forks and straws out in the open for all customer to serve themselves. Per the health code, you must have these in the back and provide them to the customer upon request and hand it to the customer. All tea pitchers are out to self pour, which is not per health code. Food is very expensive for a very small portion of food. read more

Came here the other morning and found it so frustrating. I get that the lady ringing the guy up in front of me was in training- but, it was taking forever and I just don't get why they didn't open up the other register as the line was building up behind us. I have always loved La Bou and have been a customer since they opened. I went to the Roseville location today and am so disappointed. They were out of ham & cheese croissants - instead of saying they were unavailable, they sliced a croissant in half, added ham and cheese and fried it in butter - the most unappetizing meal - I had to toss it as we were headed out of town and we're on a tight schedule. I have been a patron of La Bou for years but only go occasionally. I went to the restaurant in Roseville, CA on Santa Clara Dr today. This was the worst experience I've ever had there. I had the smoked turkey sandwich, the meat was basically nonexistent...there were literally only two paper thin pieces of turkey on the sandwich. The lettuce was wilted as well. I also had to ask where the napkins and sugar were located as they had all the necessary eating utensils and iced tea condiments spread all over instead in one essential place! I've been to MANY La Bou locations and frequently visit the Granite Bay location and was driving to this side of town, and I decided to stop for a drink and a quick snack. I ordered a Thai Iced Tea, that is a 10/10 I love this when I am unable to get a Boba early in the morning. Tastes amazing. What was less amazing, I ordered a Almond Croissant and I asked for it to be warmed up. The Cafe associate tells me "we have a microwave over there". I've been to two La Bou locations regularly the past few months and I have never had to heat my food myself or be told this. The franchise owner of this location is horrible! I had ordered a combo salad & roast beef sandwich and when I got home the roast beef was bad. I accidentally called the other La Bou and they said come in and they will replace it next time. So I went here and told this lady what happened and she refused to make it right! She told me I should have drove back and PROVED that the roast beef was rotten and have my receipt. She acted like I was some bum trying to rip her off! I stopped by this La Bou for a coffee and breakfast pastry but can't say I'll return anytime soon. The Ham and cheese croissant was disappointing. The pastry was actually chewy instead of being light and flaky and the very small amount of ham inside reminded me of the paper thin packaged "lunchmeat" ham sold in grocery stores. I think this croissant may have been hanging out on the pastry rack a little too long. I also had an Iced Mocha. I ordered a large (about $5) which was a bad idea since the flavor was not good. I'm not sure if it they used cocoa powder or something else, but the flavor reminded me of Hershey's Syrup (which I don't care for). Combined with whatever coffee base they were using it just made for a bad drink. The staff here is friendly and there is ample seating for dining in a group or alone. I've had good pastries at La Bou before, so my suggestion if you are going would be to arrive as early as possible as the pastries don't seem to "age" well...La Boo. read more

This has got to be the WORST service in the history of food spots. The food is OK, but the service made us not even care. Will NEVER go back. To begin with, I walked up to the counter and said "Hi" the person actually did a head nod like "what's up?" without even speaking. Ummm...ok...so we asked her a couple of questions re; what comes on the specialty sandwiches (as it's not listed on the board) and she acted like it caused her physical pain to answer. The rest of the employees there were super rude too. There was ONE nice person working there, but the rest acted like they were there under duress. The floors and tables were not clean either. I've gone there before and it was a lot better so not sure what happened to cause the decline, but I'll NEVER go there again. I'd rather give my money to places where the people working there can at least act pleasant (even if they have to fake it). I'm not demanding and am always nice to others so I kind of like when it's reciprocated. I HATE rudeness (esp when it's totally unwarranted). Maybe it was a SUPER off day (doubtful), but unless you're up to potentially being treated like gum on the bottom of someone's shoe, or you're a masochist, I would go elsewhere. read more

I have often been a fan of La Bou, but I'm afraid this first time visit at this location in Roseville was disappointing, and not worth a return visit. The young man at the service counter might have been having a bad morning, but he delivered my bagel (not even toasted) to the far end of the counter while I am standing right in front of him waiting for my coffee, and told me I could "go get it". The eye-roll I received when I asked for an extra cream cheese and was more than happy to pay for it, was absolutely inappropriate. My colleague I was meeting with was met with a similar irritation from the same staff when she ordered 15 minutes later. It's a bagel folks. It's not like we asked you to make it from scratch!! La Bou is one of my favorite places to grab a pretty healthy, quick, inexpensive lunch (or breakfast). This location in particular is my favorite because there are plenty of tables and they have a good selection of food and drink (the Land Park location is also a good one!) For lunch, the soups are always great, and I loooove the dill dressing on pretty much everything! The asian noodle salad is delish as well--I find myself craving it on occasion :-) For sandwiches, I think pretty much anything on one of their croissants is awesome. However, they don't usually include cheese, so make sure to specify if you want it--I think they charge extra :( No matter what I order for lunch, I always get a large mango iced tea to go with it! It is so good and unsweetened too--so refreshing! For breakfast, their stuffed croissants (ham and cheese or the fruit filled) are sooo yummy! I really like coming here when I get the chance. The sandwiches are so fresh and flavorful. The bread is baked fresh too. I like the sandwich/salad combos you can get. I purchased a half turkey sandwich on wheat bread with the chinese chicken salad (came with sesame dressing). It was very yummy and made me remember how wonderful it is. My husband ordered the ham and swiss panini and he scarfed that down like no other. My mom ordered the chicken caesar wrap. She really liked it too. If I was in the area, I would definitely come here for lunch during my work day or on weekends. I think it's really the freshness of it all that I'm impressed with. I used to LOVE La Bou. I've been eating at this specific location since I was little and my dad would take my sister and I to get a fresh almond croissant. My last two visits have been quite disappointing. First, they permanently got rid of 2 of my favorite vegetarian items: the spinach and cream cheese hot-baked croissant and the Spicy Thai Veggie soup. Second, their portions seem to be getting much smaller and the price stays the same. Their paninis used to be absolutely fabulous, and the last time I ordered one a couple of weekends ago, it was small, crusty, and it was really dry. Was in the area and hangry (yes hangry) for a sandwich, debated between Togo's, Panera, and this place (reccomended by yelp). Customer service wasn't fussy, ordering was simple, and the guy at the counter was helpful. The ladies making the sandwiches and calling the order were friendly. Not the best sandwich I've ever had, but decent. The pastries in the counter look delicious, but who wouldn't love fruits and sweets??? Price is a little high, but I've paid more for worse before. Very poor review based on one experience. I have in the past Frequented Labou many times. They were around in Roseville way before any one knew what Starbucks was. Their dill dressing dipped in fresh baguette is to die for! However their policy that doesn't allow you to use a credit card for a cup of coffee sent me away on a long road trip very disappointed. La Bou is one of my favorite lunch spots to go to for a simple, quick lunch. This location is on the larger side and can get fairly crowded during lunch hours. My favorite order is the lunch combination. You can pick two from 1/2 sandwich, soup, or salad. I typically get either the Asian noodle salad or Chef Salad with a half turkey sandwich on a croissant. The croissant is always very soft and buttery and the salads are usually fairly large and fresh. If you are looking for something simple and fast, this is your place! read more

This is one of the "good" La Bou's. That's how I categorize it. They are the ones with ALL the menu items. The scones, pumpkin muffins/cake are my favorite for breakfast. Also the scones come in regular and mini size. For lunch the La Bou chicken salad comes with the best lemongrass dressing. Asian chicken salad is great. Very fresh. They can also be custom if you don't like something in a salad or sandwich. The coffee is strong and always good. The mango ice tea is a fave. read more

La Bou, La Bou, La Bou. Why is it called La Bou? This is a French inspired restaurant run by Vietnamese. A little history for you, Vietnam was a French colony up until the 1950s. Anyway, I've been going to this location for almost 20 years. What keeps me going back? 1) The almond croissants (which sell out every day, so come early!) 2) Salad/soup/sandwich combos. I love getting my turkey sandwich on a croissant. 3) Ceasar salad. Dressing is homemade. You can't get a flavor like this anywhere else. Sure, the oil they use is fish-like, but it's to a distinct palate, and is to my liking. 4) Tomato soup. This is a good location for groups to get together for lunch. They've got all kinds of teas and coffees too. It is very common for nearby businesses to order their lunch and breakfasts here. So, try it out! read more

This place is pretty good when they're on point, but when they're not, they're a bit below average. So, all things being equal, averaged out, this is the overall experience representation of my opinion. More times than not, they're good. However, there are several times I've gone there, when they were out of something that is specifically went there for. I'm not sure if that's my luck, but I would imagine if they have a hit on their hand, which should be pretty popular, they should make sure they have enough of it. I understand every now and then, but after being out of something multiple times, multiple items, I just can't rely on being able to get what I want, which makes the place unreliable. There are other locations, which I've never had any issues with, so if I'm near by La Bou, or ha r that craving, those would be my first choices. I've been eating at this La Bou for 20 years and I love it just as much as the first time. La Bou is my first stop (and last) anytime I'm fortunate enough to be in Roseville. Their sandwiches are to die for and the ingredients are so fresh. Their dill dressing is unlike anything I've ever had. I've never had a meal at La Bou that didn't impress me. It can get a little packed around the lunch hour but service is always fast and the employees are all extremely nice. I've never had poor service in the 20 years I've been eating here. The management is excellent and the owner is frequently there making sure everything is running smoothly. If you're looking for outstanding breakfast their hot baked ham and cheese croissant is the best thing on the planet. Creamy, melty Swiss and baked ham inside the most delicate buttery croissant. For lunch their sandwiches and salads are the best in town. I highly recommend the smoked turkey sandwich or pesto and Swiss on croissant. The last time I remembered having it, the food, bread and house dip was thick and so delicious. today my husband and I went there for lunch, and were so disappointed. The dip/salad dressing was watered down. His $8.00 chicken herb sandwich had 2 mediocre slices of chicken (the slices were equivalent to 2 cold cut slices) when he asked "where's the chicken", he was told that it had 1 whole chicken breast divided between the 2 halfs) uummm no. No one would rectify the matter by simple giving an extra 2 slices of chicken. Went to LaBou Sunday. Bran muffin was so hard you had to microwave it in order to attempt to eat it. My croissant sandwich was so flakey it basically disintegrated. Husband ended up with mayonnaise on his sandwhich after he said no mayo. I believe these products were day olds or longer but were not sold as such. WOW!!!! I remember eating at La Bou's in Sacramento years ago and it was very good...this place is terrible. I ordered the Roasted Chicken Club Panini [$11.50] with Avocado & Bacon Panini on Foccacia bread, with tomato garlic mayonnaise, herb chicken, jack cheese, bacon, fresh tomato, lettuce and mashed avocado. I asked for extra pickles and she game three "thin slices of pickle", and charged me $.25 more...yea, for three thin slices of pickles. I asked for a larger glass so that I could put more water and ice in it, she said "No, I can't give you that"...like she was afraid I was going to sneak and get maybe their ice tea or something...this place is really bad news. I was very disappointed especially with the waitress taking my order and then my sandwich...please note it was suppose to have bacon, which I paid for...NO BACON...NOT A PIECE OF BACON. No I did not go back, she probably would have accused me of taking out the bacon...who knows. There was a "scant" of mashed up avocado and I mean a scant... The sandwich was worth probably $5.00 [if that] certainly not $11.50...I am use to getting good, quality food for the money...I do not mind paying if the food is good, what they are serving here is terrible. Not often do I post any thing But this place La Bou in Roseville is such a disappointment. I was spoken to by an asian lady that spoke so fast and acted like I was taking up too much of her time. I wanted the turkey with avacado and bacon. I told her that I did not want the bacon. So she tells me all sandwich are premade no subs and I thought the sandwich was fresh and made to order. So I ended up paying for the bacon I did'nt even get. Next time I keep the bacon and rbrow it in the garbage never mind there will not be a next time My granddaughter likes this place I don't know why, you can get a sandwich made to order at subways, toto, even safeway I told my grand doughter I will never take her there again. read more
