Since there are very less options for a vegetarian, we selected this restaurant. Its not that clean and the food is ok. The menu card was smelling a lot. :( They provide chips and salsa when you arrive. There are very less options for a vegetarian and we ordered for a platter having quesadilla, burrito and something. Great food and wonderful service. Music was festive. We ordered the south of the border chicken which was absolutely fantastic it was slightly on the spicy side but had excellent flavor I also got the chicken chimichanga with rice and beans they do put red sauce on it even though it doesn't say so in the menu. For dessert we ordered a fried ice cream to split all i can say is yum! It was covered with whipped cream chocolate sauce and honey! Very very impressed! We are vacationing in Helen for the week and have already visited this spot twice. We came the first day to have drinks on the patio. They have out-of-this-world jumbo margaritas! The jumbo size is huge. We came the second day for lunch (and another margarita haha). To me La Cabana is okay, the food is eatable. I eat allot of Mexican in Atlanta so eating Mexican in Helen was not on my list. I like to try everything in a small town so I figured I'd give it a shot. The experience was mediocre for me, it had nothing that stood out for me to try this place again. If I could give negative stars I would. It was horrible: the alcohol had no alcohol in it . My taco salad was so bad that I only ate from crust of the taco bowl even though it was so gross ..... I ended having to get my own to go container .... not cause I wanted to save the food trust me. The only thing that seemed ok was the water and my son's French fries so that is what I was saving . Anyways I wouldn't even let my boyfriend leave a tip since we already wasted so much money there . We ended up going through the Wendy's drive thru and I really wish we had done that and saved our money from the start. If you're looking for Mexican in the mountains this is the place! Food is great and that staff is always helpful.

I want to start by stating that this is the first review that I have ever written on Yelp, but feel inclined to write, in hopes of preventing the next person from stepping foot into this dump! We should have turned around and walked out immediately, but we had faith in the other Yelp reviews that this place would be good. My family and I sat at the flimsy table and waited for our server. In the meantime, my daughter was getting wet from a leaky, brown spot on the ceiling above her. Although the salsa tasted like canned tomato sauce, the main course was decent; we had tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. Taco Bell would have been a much better alternative though! My husband and I ordered a pitcher of mango margaritas on the rocks, and we literally poured water into our glasses because the margaritas were so tart. This was gut-wrenching, considering the pitcher was a hefty $25! The server was rude and not attentive. When I paid the cashier for the bill she asked me how everything was. I told her about the margaritas and how awful they were and she said "I'm sorry", as she visually looked at the still-full pitcher of margaritas on our table. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! read more

The food is good, but twice I've ordered a to-go order and found things missing or wrong upon returning home. The first time I added two orders of rice, which I paid for, only to find they had been left out. The second time we ordered a large queso and while the salsa and chips made it into the to-go bag, it did not. The staff is always friendly and the food is good so I don't want to be over critical. However they may wanna have someone double checking to-go orders since if you pay extra for something it is irritating when it's missing. Especially since we live 30 minutes away... read more

We visited this restaurant after a day tubing, got there and while waiting on our drinks and eating chips we found Rat dropping in there. We got up and left and when we left we told everyone there why we were leaving and two other tables noticed the same thing and the left. read more

This place is not at all we thought it would be. My family and I were walking through Helen and enjoying the views and little shops and things like that as you do when your in Helen. We had walked passed this mexican restaurant at the beginning and it smelled really good. We had walked all around Helen and then wanted some lunch. We uad remembered this mexican place that smelled so great. So our family went back to the restaurant to eat. There was a good bit of us there, 8 people to be exact. We walked in and they sat us down. We looked at the menu and when they asked for drinks we said sweet tea all around to avoid chaos of having to order all of those drinks. They brought us out some chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were really really good and everyone loved it. Well then we ordered and one of the adults asked spacifically for chili sauce on his enchilada, the waitress called it "red sauce". We said no chili sauce and she nodded like she understood. Well we were waiting on our food and chatting when she brought us our teas. Everyone took a drink or two before we realized very quickly that this tea was EXTREMELY SWEET. It had been so so sweet and then after taste was bitter. Nobody liked it and we left it alone. So we went to call over the waitress to tell her we would take waters instead. I tried flagging her down and she looked directly at me and walked away. At this point I got up myself to go get her. When I told her we wanted something else to drink she rolled her eyes and nodded like she was aggravated. Well she finally brings us the water and takes the tea. When she brings us the food the one enchilada that we spacifically asked for chili sauce she had put a red looking sauce that tasted like a cocktail sauce... it was on my enchilada but I didn't mind it too much it tasted fine. We sent the other enchilada back however. She was angry at this and was acting very rude when she brought us the other plate that had the correct food. We thanked her and she walked away. After that we all started noticing that our food tasted funny and gross. The salad even tasted weird. Two of the kids took one bite out of their food and didn't eat anymore. After that we got the bill and they charged twice for the meal they messed up. The first time they put some kind of cocktail sauce and we sent it back, well they charged us for it and the new meal that he actually ate. I told them I wasn't paying for it twice because they messed up and it was their mistake. Well then they had put that the waitress needed at least 18%. I simply stated that I would tip her but not that much because she wasn't worth it. I told them that I flagged her down numerous times and that I even had to get up 2 times. I also stated that she had an attitude the whole time. The manager said that he would call the cops on me if I didn't pay the tip and bill. I told him to go right ahead. I told my husband to take the kids to the car. Well right before the cops arrived the manager wanted my ticket back... I told him no, so he went over to the cash register and started punching in numbers. When the police arrived he tried talking to them and not letting me but I went ahead and talked anyway. When the cops asked to see the bill the man gave him a different one than he gave me. The bill he handed the cop was 20 dollars more than the bill I recived. I told the cop that I had the original bill. The cop asked the man how all of a sudden my bill was much more... the man said it was for ALL THE drinks. We stated we had waters and sent back teas. The man said we drank the teas before we sent them back...a young couple had been sitting in the restaurant and stated that they saw the waitress walk back from our table carrying the glasses of tea and that they were full. The cop settled it and I payed the right amount of money and didn't tip her at all. Well after all that happend 4 of the 8 of us got food poisoning. So sick 2 cried and 1 threw up. The other two were pale and didn't feel well. I don't recommend this restaurant for anyone to eat. read more

I wish they had a restaurant in the Atlanta area because we enjoyed the food and good customer service. My husband and I ate here and enjoyed the food and our experience. We ate outside on the patio to be able to enjoy the outdoor view of all the attractions and atmosphere on Main street. I had the Beef Steak Chimichunga and my husband had a Grilled Shrimp Burrito. We both really enjoyed our food. This says a lot for us because we both are very particular and snobby about food having to be good and full of flavor. My Chimichunga was perfectly fried on the outside to have a nice crisp to it and the cheese poured over it along with the gaucamole, sour cream, and lettuce was perfect. The beef steak inside of it was just right as well and flavorful. My Chimichunga came with a side of beans which I thought were tasty and had a mild spicy kick to it. The service was excellent and prompt. The prices were great as well. In total we paid $21.29 for both of our meals together. My meal was around $7 after tax and my husband's was around $14 after tax . My husband's meal was The owner and staff were very friendly and polite, which we appreciated a lot. They truly do value their customers and want to make sure that they are enjoying their food and experience there. We definitely will be returning there the next time we visit Helen. read more

my husband, little sister, her friend and I attended the Helen, GA location for my birthday weekend on Aug. 2, 2013. I drove 1 1/2 hours to go tubing and dinner afterward, and we chose La Cabana because I had previously visited another location in Dillard, GA & the service there was amazing so I thought 'what a great thing you guys are here in Helen!' But sadly, my server decide to fight with me over a misunderstanding about our drink order. The owner then approaches us & reeks of alcohol. My sister places an order & receives something else entirely because they didn't have the ordered item & our server failed to inform of the 86'd item.She asked another server about the meat inside her quesadilla and said she didn't know what meat was inside and followed to say "there's nothing I can do about it" and proceeded to walk off.We flagged down the owner again & we returned her item and asked for no replacement. After our second incident, the server never checked on us. We were never given any silverware-which I got up and got myself- or any straws, napkins, or refills for our fountain drinks. As a consumer and server myself I was extremely disappointed with our experience of which I hoped would be a great end to a great day. Guess not. Never will we return and urge no one else to do so either. read more

It took 2 hours to get our food. One goes to a Mexican place to get food fast. This was not the case last night at all. Chips were brought to our table immediately, but we were never refilled or offered a refill. We placed an order for 2 pitchers of margaritas and received 1. The server Angel never came by to ask if we wanted another pitcher or anything else. After 1 1/2 hours of waiting we asked about our food and was told it would be out in 5 minutes. About 30 minutes later it came out. Our order was never turned into the kitchen evidently. Some of the food came out very hot, some mild, and some cold like it had been cooked way before the rest of the food. Our cheese dip never made it to the table. After we paid, one of the people with us complained to the hostess and she began to cry. Another member of the staff came up and argued with him about our experience. When leaving the parking lot, the owner runs to parking lot to confront and cuss us out for in his words "making his daughter cry". Talk about unprofessional. In a tourist town like Helen, the guy obviously knows that people will fill his Mexican restaurant every weekend so he does not care what guests think about his restaurant or lack of service. We will not ever go back to this place and would recommend that nobody else visit this place. Learn some customer service and how to deal with customers as we are the one's paying. read more
