I have been to this place twice once in march and yesterday. It is some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten!! I wish this restaurant was in my town!! Every time I go to Helen this is the place I want to eat....there is 2 (same place) and I have eaten at both but this is the better one (located near dollar general)....my only complaint is there tea is not "sweet tea", it needs some sugar!! My friends, my husband and I went this place for dinner. I ordered beef tacos, and it was good. However, I gave them two stars because their rest room was super nasty and the toilet paper was everywhere. Moreover, someone left their thing and they didn't flash. I have been to many Mexican restaurants in my life but this restaurant is by far the GREATEST I have ever been to! My family and I visited the restaurant this past summer and the experience was truly amazing! Having worked in the restaurant industry myself I understand how difficult it is to manage a busy shift and this place was poppin' but the entire staff was still friendly and delightful. While it was a little wait for our food our waitress was diligent and extremely helpful, she refilled our drinks, cracked some jokes, and kept our chip basket full. When we got the food it was so tasty and flavorful, I had the best grilled chicken quesadilla EVER! In all, our visit was fantastic, everyone left fat and happy! read more

This place is infested with flies. The staff had to put candles to scare the flies away. The food takes a very long time to come out, and it's NOT worth it. The only good thing are the chips. We stopped at La Cabana, thinking you can't mess up Mexican food. We have not had good food many other places in Helen with the exception of Hofers. Anyway, the chili verde looked like water with pepper seeds and pieces of meet. Taste was awful. The Vallarta special was delivered partially. They forgot to include the quesadilla. Although that may have been good as that was the only hot plate when I inquired and received the missing item. The salsa tastes like stewed tomatoes and the margaritas were 99.9% alcohol free. In short very disappointing and I would not recommend dining here. I would like to rate the restaurant zero stars, but Yelp requires a minimum of one. read more

Our little foursome showed up there this Friday night with no reservation and even though they were slammed, we got the table of our choice within 10 minutes. All in all, the service was a little slow and I never did get the hot sauce I kept asking for (-1) but the food met the classic cheap Mexican standard. They were even happy to let me order off the menu, to accommodate my non meat eating ways. The drinks were fantastic. They serve what I like to call, "sneaky margaritas" as they're so smooth you doubt the bartender put any tequila in it, but when you stand up you quickly realize he did. :) I'd definitely return to La Cabana the next time I want Mexican in a Bavarian setting. ;) read more

Delicious food at a great price and great service. Visited Helen for one day and wasn't in the mood for strong food, so we decided to have a chicken soup and this was the only place I could find that was serving chicken soup. Many of the "German" places around here serve you a hot dog and call it German food.They gave my party of two, free chips and salsa as an appetizer and the "small lunch" soup was so huge that we couldn't finish them. The soup was amazing, fresh, like homemade, and the best part is that it's so inexpensive. The place has normal prices, great food and awesome service. They didn't add the ingredients I don't like into the soup. Then I ordered a soup to go and they gave me a pack of free chips and salsa as well. They were very attentive and even gave my mom more chicken broth for her soup and took care of us very well. read more

So we came to town late and needed a place to feed two adults and two toddlers. We were told this place was great and figured we'd give it a try. The staff was very friendly and they immediately brought us chips and salsa. The kids ate cheese quesadillas (freaking amazing,) my other half got the el cabana special and I got the el barco. The el cabana was delicious and huge. The el barco to me was superior. Steak, chicken, and shrimp in a yummy cheese sauce. Oh and they have a game room and TVs. I only wish they had drink specials but all of their drinks were very reasonable. I would recommend this to anyone with taste buds. read more

We came here during our 20th anniversary trip. The first thing I noticed is that the stairs leading up to the entrance were like trying to scale Everest or Kilimanjaro (I'm sure there was an alternate entrance for the elderly or disabled). There was a sign on the door that stated the floor was slippery when wet (it happened to be a rainy day when we went)...slippery is not the word I would have used....slicker than elephant snot would have been more appropriate...even the servers were slipping and sliding. The food was descent not great and the service was pretty good. The one big disappointment I had was in the stuffed poblano pepper...it was really small, not very stuffed, and lacked that flavor and consistency I have come to know with other restaurants. So if you like mountain climbing and ice skating servers this is the place for you! read more

La cabana was a good choice for our last meal in "non foodie" purgatory. It's typical Mexican fare with reasonable prices. We both opted for safe choices #1 on the combo section which was one taco, 2 enchiladas, with rice and beans. Albeit the salsa was a bit watery and could have used more spice. However, the meal was filling and satisfying. The staff was friendly and very attentive to my to go orders. Food: Was awesome, pretty hard to mess up Mexican food. Wife and I went and got the Cana special along with Carne Asada, both phenomenal. Customer Service: Also very good. Greeted immediately upon entering and given chips/salsa the moment we sat down. Employees were very friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere: Left something to be desired. Inexpensive large portions of Mexican food. Great salsa! Sit in or out. Inside one room has very festive fun paintings that add a lot to the atmosphere. Nice folks and good food. In crowded Helen its good to have standbys where you can park and get a table pretty quickly with tons of food. Portions are large! I had a half order of Texas Nachos & had plenty. My husband order chicken fajitas & had more than he could eat. The Mexican Chunky Guacamole was very good with plenty to share.
