I ordered three tacos (steak , chicken and chorizo). I also had a mango margarita that I wish I had skipped. (Lacked alcohol but the mango was refreshing) Overall, I enjoyed the tacos but they aren't the best I've ever had. Lacked some flavor for sure! I really liked the grilled onions that are paired with the tacos. Nice texture and flavor. The sauce and topping bar was a great added option as well. I was in the area and thought it would be a good idea to try a New spot. The place is really cute inside. You walk up to the bar to order before you sit down. I ordered an Horchata for my drink and Pozole for my dinner. I love pozole and thought they did a really great job with this soup. The flavor was really good and the size of the bowl was very fair. I was able to have leftovers for the next day. My husband ordered some type of burrito that honestly looked very dry and he didn't really care for it. In the middle of the restaurant is a station to grab limes, different sauces, jalapeños, etc. For our appetizer, we ordered queso and chips. It was the most bland and watered down queso. I came the very next day for more charro beans, tamales, tacos and tortillas to stock up for the week. I bought enough food to take home extra. They have an awesome salsa bar with mild to hot options. I love the different flavors from pico to mango and red and green salsas. The signs are on the glass above so you know what your getting. This place was awesome to sit and have tacos or a burrito. When you enter you need to go to the counter to order your food. They do not have waitstaff coming to your table. There are menus available at the counter and once you place your order, they will bring to your table. Our order took about 20 minutes to come out but it was well worth the wait. I had one of each, fish taco, pollo, and carne asada and let me tell you!! They were all amazing!!! Normally street tacos I have gotten are kinda skimpy and can be eaten in 3 bites. Not these! All of them were hearty and stuffed. I was very impressed and satisfied with my food. My daughter had a carne asada burrito that she totally devoured and was happy with her choice. They have a sauce and salsa bar for your choice from mild to flaming hot sauces . Their sauces were good as I had salsa and a tomatillo sauce as my choices. The restaurant vibe gives hints to Mexican heritage along with Frida Cahallo pictures. There were a couple of TVs with games on and nice variety of Hispanic music playing that was not too loud. When I'm craving street tacos this is my go to place. Although there is another highly rated taqueria closer, I prefer La Calle. The seasoned grilled onions they add to the tacos is what sets them apart. The usual white onion and cilantro also come on the side. Taco specials are available on Tuesdays. They also have a variety of homemade ice creams and popsicles. I haven't had a chance to try any yet but they look delicious. I like the decor and the owner & staff are always friendly. So I had the shrimp quesadillas, corn on the cob, birria tacos, pork tamale, and locochon I was really excited to try something out of my Comfort zone. So I wasn't trying to pick something that I would normally eat so that's why I have a bunch of different food. Anyways everything was good and everything had it's own flavor nothing was over seasoned or under season. I came here to pick up lunch on one of my rare days of working from home. I placed my order and had to wait about 15 minutes because it was also the day of the predicted snow and they were just opening when I arrived. I ordered the Asada and Chorizo Tacos since it was Taco Tuesday and Tacos were $1.95 and also a Pork Tamale and Cup of Corn. My wife ordered the Pollo Loaded Nachos. Both taco meats were flavorful, however the steak was a little dry to my taste. The tamale was moist and tasted good. I didn't realize that I was missing the corn until I got home. Fortunately I was not charged but I recommend checking your order before you leave for take out. My wife liked her nachos ok and I was able to taste and thought the same. Only negative was in the short drive home most of the chips were pretty soft from the cheese sauce and other toppings. We both thought we would like to return and try again but it probably won't be high on the list. This place kept popping up as a hot new business, so once I got back in town, we decided to stop by since it's around a lot of the places we shop. Located right next to Cici'a pizza, you'll miss this place unless you're looking for it. The day we were there, the "open" sign was off, but several people were inside. Thanks to Yelp, I knew I wanted to try the Eloche. Basically it's the elote off the cob in a bowl with cheese and cream and other deliciousness. The bowl is piled high and overflowing onto corn tortilla chips. You can have these with jalapeños, but we chose not to. So good, but def. rich! I was glad we split this entree. We also ordered four street tacos to share: chicken, steak, chorizo, and pork. All tacos come with onions, cilantro, and a side of grilled onions, but since my husband doesn't like onions, we only get them with cilantro. Two bottles of sauce were brought out (green and red), but we didn't put any on the taco. The chicken and steak were probably my least favorite because they didn't have a ton of flavor. But the chorizo and pork def. made up for it. While we were there, several people came in to order (including takeout), so this place is def. in a good spot! One of the newer restaurants in Trussville - it caught our eye and we wanted to try it as a change of pace. We found it without too much trouble, but the Open sign wasn't on, so we weren't sure, at first, if they were open that day. We checked and went in. The tacos were good. The chorizo and pork were my favorites, as they had more flavor. The chicken and steak were good quality, just a little bland. The Eloche was better than the tacos. It was a giant bowl of cheese and corn and spices, with which you could dip your corn chips into. I'd like to come back sometime soon and try some of their other menu items. So glad that I finally tried this place! Such good, fresh and tasty food. A friend had gone in for quesadillas and just got me some guacamole because I like to compare different places. Hands down, this is the freshest, chunkiest, most delicious guacamole I've had. I've been back 3 times in the past month getting more. My one time having the street tacos, they were pretty delicious as well but the got the order wrong... I wanted to try the steak, shrimp and chicken but instead of steak, I got 2 chicken tacos. I also didn't get the salsa discussed. That's the only reason for a reduction in stars. While waiting for my food, I tried a margarita as well.. Pretty good and did the job. This is really kind f a hard review to write. This is another one of those places that falls solidly between a 3 and 4 star and would benefit from a half start rating system. Greeted when I walked in the staff was friendly and answered any questions I had. You walk up to the counter to place your order grab a seat and they bring the food out when it's ready. Drinks: Interestingly they had hard alcohol kind of on a shelf that you could order along with beer and specialty drinks even though this has the look and feel of fast food. They don't have sweet tea (really odd for any mexican restaurant) and have 7 r 8 coke branded options. Huge negative for me is they didn't have lids for their to go cups rendering it not a great option t get a refill to take with you. Food: I had two tacos and a tamale. Both tacos came with onion and cilantro. I had the Steak and the Marinated Pork. The Steak taco had great flavor and was relatively tender (4 out of 5 rating). The marinated pork was really just alright. I'm not sure what I expected, but this really wasn't what I thought I was going to get with the pork taco (3 out of 5). The pork tamale had great flavor, but was overcooked and bordered on crunchy in a few places (3 out of 5), Salsa Station: I was a fan of the salsa station that had a variety of additional toppings and salsa that you could get. Wish they would label what the different sauces were though. Overall really not bad. I would go have the steak tacos again and try other menu items. Plus I didn't try any of their snacks which they had quite a few to choose between. Would return here. read more

I visited La Calle twice this week with my husband. The atmosphere is very nice. It has a unique, cozy, artsy, local feel that we love. We have enjoyed all of our food: shrimp fajitas, pastor torta, beef salad, and veggie quesadilla. It was fairly priced too. My favorite part is the variety of salsas that they have (for free). It's hard to find actually spicy salsas at a restaurant and they have several. I will mention that the service was a little weak today. The bartender was a bit standoffish and forgot to make and bring my husband's margarita. He was a little hard to get ahold of, as he seemed to be playing patty cake in the kitchen with another staff member. Finally someone else noticed and asked what we needed. She said she would ask him about our missing margarita. 10 minutes later, he brought the margarita over without a word. My husband said "thanks buddy!" And the bartender still didn't speak. There was no "I'm sorry" or "you're welcome" which we felt was a little odd. we also tipped him first, when we paid for our food. We will certainly be back. I'm going to assume that the bartender was just having an off day and if service continues to be lacking, I will come back and revise my review. read more

Wow, I came across this place by accident. I was looking for something to eat before heading into the movies and Buffalo Wild Wings was over crowded and I wasn't in the mood for Cici's so I saw this place. I thought it was closed but it's really spacious. The cashier greeted me warmly and asked me what I would like. The menu is simple but that's because I think it's brand new place so they haven't gotten into what's hot for this area. I saw they had Al Pastor pork and I always see the Tasty videos online so ordered the Al Pastor quesadilla with no tomatoes along with two steak tacos. Not gonna lie, I had a long wait, like 15-20 minute wait for the food, mainly because the cook accidentally put tomatoes in my quesadilla. She immediately apologized, remade my order and gave me a piece of the most delicious strawberry tres leches cake! I ate the tacos first and man, they were great! Steak was well done (which I'm not a fan of) but still moist and the ingredients were fresh! The quesadilla was so delectable, so delicious, so got dang unbelievable! The cheese was superb, the pork tenderloin, and the fixings immaculate! The cake was almost ice cream like, not overly sweet but a great finish to a great meal. All in all, I'll be coming back in the future due to the exceptional service, great food, and the price was on the lower side. Great job and well deserving of 5 stars. read more

Great new authentic Mexican restaurant in Trussville. This place hasn't been opened long, but it seems that the word is out. Saw a ton of people coming in while we were there. Their street tacos (corn tortillas, meat, cilantro, and onions) are the best in town. I got one of each of the Asada, Alpastor, and Pollo. All were great. Their sauces are also fantastic. They also have tortas and quesadillas, but I can never pass up a good taco. They have ice cream and popsicles that are made the old fashioned Mexican way. We ordered the queso, quac, veggie quesadilla and steak torta. The queso was good but i think the chips are store bought (just really salty). The guac was absolutely delicious! The torta and veggies quesadilla weren't bad. My veggie quesadilla had cheese, onions, tomatoes, bell pepper and zuchinni on it. I just wished the veggies were seasoned a little more. Unlike some of the Elite, I've never measured the acoustics (y'all crack me up XD) but I know I can feed my family of four some great food for around $25 and everyone is happy and full. This place is my family's go-to for dining out. It's the perfect place to share delicious food and talk about everyone's day. The owner and staff are so friendly it always feels like we're guests in their home. When you go you'll appreciate just how much thought the owner has put into everything--the food, the art, the service, the children's spaces, the whole atmosphere. La Calle is an absolute gem!! I cannot believe that I have lived in Trussville for a year now and have not checked it out before tonight. So let me break it down.. Located in a chain strip mall it is very discreet. But upon entering, you are immediately immersed in a fun, casual and upbeat atmosphere. Mexican music fills the air along with the amazing smells of spices and meats. Seating is casual, 4 top tables and chairs along with a few booths and some nice bar seating. There is even an adorable kid sized table and chairs against the window for the little ones to people watch. The menu was a good size but not too big at all. This tells me that they make things fresh and take pride in the food that comes out. We tried a little of everything and it was all fresh and delicious. The guacamole came out thick and chunky, with big hunks of avocado in each bite. It was absolutely full of flavor! The carnitas (fried pork tacos) were on special for $1.50 so we got a few of those, some chicken tamales, and veggie tacos. Everything was made to order and came out hot and tasty! There is a decent sized salsa and hot sauce bar in the middle of the restaurant adorned with house made sauces that are a must try. Be careful, the habanero is not for the faint of heart! In addition to soft drinks they have juices, a decent beer selection as well as some cocktails. Desserts include favorites such as tres leches cake and popsicles.
