I wish I could give this place zero stars! We have eaten here several times and no issues, but tonight is the last time I will ever eat here. After being seated the hostess forgot to get my little boy a highchair, fine she was busy. After we ordered our food it took 45 minutes to get to us! We watched 4-5 tables be seated and get their food and were finished eating before we even got ours. I confronted the manager whom obviously didn't know what he was doing not care about the fact that we waited that long. The decor of this place was amazing! Not the cheesy plastic flags and beer and tequila signs most Mexican restaurants sport. However that is where the good ended. The food was bland, very heavy on the meat with little else. I ordered my taco salad without tomatos, but was served with tomatos- when I told them, they took it and picked off the tomatos and gave it back to me(I still found bits of tomato in the lettuce). My meal was also supposed to have guacamole, never did see that. My plate had some sort of juice floating on it and the bottom of my salad bowl was completely soggy. The wait staff did a poor job. Never refilling drinks or even asking if we would like a refill. Saw our waitress refill others drinks, and we even pushed our empty glasses to the edge of the table. She looked at us and walked past 3 times before we gave up. It is also a bit pricy for the food served. Portions were small, and the plating was less than desirable. I like this place! I always get the chorizo el pollo. It's my favorite. The food is good and authentic. I hate that they only give you a small piece of that sweet Mexican cornbread. I need the whole pan. The staff are really nice. They can be a little forget sometimes when asking for things. Always check you glasses before drinking. They probably need a new dishwasher. The bathroom isn't the best. It wasn't the cleanest when I went in there to wash my hands. Not a fan of places with a single restrooms. Prefer multiple stall restrooms. read more

I'm not going to lie -- my Mexican palate is Taco Bell. What do you want from me? I'm from Ohio. Well, it's a new restaurant and it's in O'Fallon, so I knew I would find myself here eventually. I did appreciate the employees giving us two large bowls of salsa with a huge basket of chips for the four of us. The salsa is never as hot as I want it, but they are trying to cater to everyone and not just those of us who have smoked our taste buds away. It had a pleasant flavor and I was pretty sure they didn't just pour it from a jar. I ordered the No. 1 lunch special. My taco looked and tasted exactly like what I could get from my beloved Taco Bell, so that was a win, however, I cannot order a chile relleno from Taco Bell. This is the border between fast food Mexican and sit down Mexican for me. It wasn't spectacular, but I wasn't exactly disappointed either. The chile relleno was soggier than it should have been, but I was far too engrossed in the gooey, cheesy center to be truly bothered. O.M.G. What happened? This place opened to rave reviews, justly deserved. It was wonderful. But today, was just short of horrible. Ok, the chips were warm when they arrived with the salsa. Then we ordered and waited with anticipation. We hadn't been here recently....life gets crazy at times. The guacamole arrived and I got scared. It was a thin ooze in a bowl, not a scoop as in the past. No chunks at all, just an overly salted mass of pale green. It was awful, I tasted it and left the rest. My enchilada arrived and they were barely warm and my friend's food was not correct either. She sent it back and told me to go ahead to not wait and then eat cold food. I had to tell her, too late, already cold. She finally got her lunch and it had no cheese on it. Rather than complain, she ate it. We both noticed that the plates had the corners broken off. I really don't like to eat off of broken crockery. This place was always packed for the lunch hour in the past, today only a couple of tables were full. I really, really want this to be a one time fluke on this place. I will give it another try, for the times past that I enjoyed going here, but I have a very sinking feeling. read more

This is, by far, the best Mexican food I've had since moving to Illinois. We ordered the enchilada special. The portion is very large and is enough to take what I can not eat home for dinner. Very quaint and quiet place to eat. The lighting is certainly not the brightest in here but the food is well above your average chain tex mex restaurant. Coming from the southwest i hold expectations very high for places like this. Had the steak burrito which was very well packed and tasteful. The staff here always seems to be happy and willing to please any pallet or question. For the money it was not a bad meal. I especially thought that the ambience of the restaurant was very well done considering it is in a strip mall. They really took the time to give it the feel of an authentic restaurant with a Mexican flair. As for the food I thought that it was good and that it was no better or worse than most Mexican places in the area. My major concern was the wait time. I arrived at 11:30 with one of my buddies from work and it took us over an hour to eat and pay and we ordered off the lunch menu. We were not in a hurry so it was not a big deal but it just seemed odd to me that it took almost 35 minutes for food to arrive after we ordered. I ordered the beef chimichanga and it was surprisingly good. The beef was marinated in some type of sauce that really gave it a distinct flavor. The chimichanga was crispy and the cheese sauce was also very good. I also thought their guacamole was good as well. Overall it was a good Mexican restaurant. It didn't tip the scale to a 4 or a 5 star rating but it was a solid three-star maybe 3 1/2 star Mexican joint in Illinois. read more

The atmosphere is really authentic, I like that it wasn't covered in beer memorabelia like most Mexican style restaurants are. I think the pricing is a bit high compared to other restaurants of the same style. When we went it wasn't a meal time, so there were few patrons. La Casa just opened on January 25, 2014 so they may be working some kinks out still. We ate here for dinner tonight. My wife ordered the Enchiladas Yolandas and I had the Burritos Verde. My wife drank sweet tea and I had a 16 oz margarita on the rocks. We were waited on promptly. The inside decor is reminiscent of the Casa Gallardo chain. Very ornate and comfortable. I would suggest sitting away from the front windows because that's where the loudspeakers are. Easier on your ears that way. Chips were OK. The salsa served with them was really bland. Not much life to it. The margarita was OK. Not much tequila seemed to be present. My wife enjoyed her selection. Both our meals came with a verde sauce that added significantly to the flavor of each. If the verde sauce had not been present, both dishes would have been very bland. My dish came with a guacamole salad. The guacamole was average. Not very chunky. Not much spice or character to it. The burritos were pork-filled and the meat was very tender, but again. very bland. Service got a little disjointed after our food arrived. No refill on the chips or salsa were offered. No one tried to get me to purchase another margarita. Waited a long time for the check to appear. I called this Edwardsville-style food because it was so bland and middle of the road. Completely inoffensive. What you feed the tourists. Restaurant was crowded and there is a lot of noise within because all the seating is very tightly configured. We will try this location later after they've had a chance to work out the opening kinks. For now, there is better to be had in the surrounding towns. read more

Have been here many times and have recommended to friends. Tonight the pico and guac were more spicy than usual. So much so, I could not eat my entree. I told the waitress who offered 10% off, went to pay, told the individual at the register. Basically was told they have no control of how food comes in...I guess they don't make their own pico or guac..? Didn't offer anything else for the fact that I didn't eat, he checked the table and said that I had eaten the food..I had not. He didn't check with the waitress. For someone like me who isn't really that into Mexican cuisine, I can say that I do like this spot. They have a lot of options to choose from on their menu that suit whatever mood you're in. Burritos, tacos, and a whole lot more on the menu including kabobs and other meat entrees that could appeal to a lot of people, not just someone in the mood for Mexican staples. I enjoy their margaritas quite a bit. Tacos were very nice for the price. Burrito Colorado is another go-to. The prices are decent. The only downfall is that families seem to enjoy dining here with their children who are ill mannered (standing and screaming in the booths) and loud/obnoxious. One night we were here there were about 5 families dining in near us, all with young children, and it was like a choir of shrieking over Mexican horn instrumental music. Bizarre. But the food *is* good. Definitely worth a try because there aren't that many options around that do decent Mexican! This is one of the only Mexican restaurant options in the area that offers a decent menu, a reasonably attractive atmosphere, and quality food! read more

We're been in a few times and our experiences have consistently been pretty good. Food is good, service is always adequate, and the price is very fair. The nice thing is that we always walk right in, no wait and can sit and talk over a beverage without having to talk over loud music or louder groups. When I walked in, hostess treated me like I was a bother. She was in NO hurry and spoke not one word to me even after taking me toy table. Total attitude!!! After being seated it took forever for anyone to help us. Menus were in need of a good wipe down, floors were filled with trash. Just overall experience is that they did not value my business and were annoyed that I was there. This is my second time coming here and have to admit, the first time was the better of the two experiences. The food is good, service is hit and miss, and the building is in great condition. The chimichanga meal is a great meal while the Lobster Nachos are good as an expensive appetizer. My three year old approves of the tacos (after the third time it came out, because they got the first two wrong). I have two minor complaints with this visit. First, the floors are slick, kind of like a layer of grease on the sealed concrete flooring. Second, watch out for the table legs as they can take up leg room and a hazard to knees if not careful. The atmosphere was great! Clean and well lit. I ordered their fabulous mango margarita (frozen) and the hubby got the long island iced tea. The long island was not good but the margarita was great. I ordered the nachos with grilled chicken and steak for dinner. It was good. I love nachos but there wasn't enough queso!? I refused to buy more. The hubby ordered a combo with two burritos and a enchilada. The burritos were good (chicken and beef) but that enchilada was lacking. When this restaurant first opened it was beyond exceptional. Within the last year management has changed and while the food is still pretty good, the service is absolutely horrible. You can expect to wait forever to get a drink, a refill, and sometimes even chips and salsa. The food was good, better than chain restaurants. Service was a little slow and frozen margarita was not frozen. The restaurant is very loud and when they have the mariachi singers going you can't talk at your table. It's difficult enough with just the general noise of the restaurant.
