Unfortunately, this experience was worse than expected. We walked in on a Saturday night hoping to enjoy dinner, but immediately felt unwelcome and received very little hospitality. We ordered our drinks and food as soon as we were able, yet still waited an additional 10 minutes after being seated just to receive our waters. Throughout the evening, the waiter appeared careless and inattentive, and we never felt genuinely looked after. I have rarely felt this unwelcome in a restaurant. Our food arrived mostly fine, but there was an issue with my order. I had specifically asked for no avocado with my meal, yet the dish came out with avocado and was clearly the same plate returned after it had simply been removed in the kitchen. The waiter apologized and mentioned the cooks hadn't paid close attention to the request. My partner also noticed multiple items being microwaved in the kitchen, which made us question how much of the menu is actually prepared fresh. By the end of the visit, we felt forgotten and uncomfortable, and decided to leave earlier than planned due to the lack of attention given to our table. I chose not to leave a tip because of the overall service experience. This place is loud and gives off a club vibe with restaurant seating. It seems the restaurant primarily caters to guests who come to drink and enjoy hookah, which I respect. However, if a food menu is offered, it should feel intentional, fresh, and worthwhile for those looking to enjoy a proper meal. read more

This restaurant is beautiful. The decor is bright, with beautiful decorations and wall art. They have a nice bar area with a huge dining area outside if you wanted to stay outdoors. They have a little private area in the back, if not private it looks very intimate. They also have an ATM and I think thats great for some fast cash. The place is very large and comfortable to dine in. The service was good. The waiter I had was taking care of all of the people I came with and it was a lot of us. He definitely handled things well. I ordered some nachos and some mozzarella sticks with fries. I also went with a classic margarita and it was just ok. I'm giving this place three stars for the whole ambiance and the happy hour price and drinks. Although I've been to better I still think that it's an ok place to accommodate a large crowd. This place is new and my girls and I wanted to try it for brunch. The ambience was friendly, beautiful, and entertaining. The music had us dancing in our seats the entire time. We ordered margaritas. The house tequila was very strong and tasted off. We informed the waiter and all he said was that we still had to pay for them and could order other drinks at an additional cost. We do not mind paying more for vetter drinks, but did not expect regular "house" drinks to taste so awful. We asked for water, and it never came. We asked for hookah and the person in charge never came. With this service, we are definitely not coming back. read more

Halloween: probably the most appropriate time to check out La Catrina. This joint is chock-full of Dia De Los Muertos decor; there are sugar skulls and decorative skeletons every few feet. Although it is dubbed a Mexican bistro, the Dominican influence is strong and present. They play tons of bachata and have quite a few dishes on the menu that pay tribute to the DR. As soon as we stepped in, we noticed that the service was very friendly and attentive. Our waitress was a champ. She came around at the perfect times and provided suggestions if we ordered things that weren't available. I ordered the La Calaca because it looked so dope, and who WOULDN'T order a cocktail served in a smoking skull on Halloween? It was a bit on the sweet side, but did the job nevertheless and caught quite a few views on IG. To eat, we ordered the chicken tacos and the grilled salmon with a side of yuca fries. My partner enjoyed her tacos, and I thought the salmon with the lobster sauce was pretty good. The yuca fries were addicting, especially with the spicy mayo-like sauce on the side. We ordered another round of drinks after: the Tropical Paradise and a margarita with a Don Julio shot. The Tropical Paradise came out "smoking" just like the La Calaca. It was potent, and not as sweet. The Margarita was no joke (in a good way). We finished off with some churros that came out piping hot. They were accompanied by some chocolate and dulce de leche sauce. They were a sweet end to our night. TLDR: come for the drinks, stay for the service. The food was good, didn't blow me away though. They also serve hookah if that's your jam. Maybe their brunch is more impressive. read more

Came in with few friends, Saturday afternoon. The decor is beautiful and they play decent music so we had a lot of fun. However very pricey especially considering the location. Drinks were okay, I didn't like my 1st one, so they took it away after my friend mentioned it to them and got me another one but charged for both which was disappointing. I also got to try a margarita my friend ordered which was just fine. Chips and guacamole did not come with enough guac especially considering the price. Nachos were good. This place is AMAZING ! I mean amazing ! Some of the places Ive been to uptown and even the bronx have the worst hospitality ever . This place truly differs, they are so on point with their customer service. All the servers make sure you are well attended and immediately clean the table when you are done with the food or drinks I personally love that. I had the penne alla vodka and the picture does absolutely no justice I had already teared that plate down and still had so much pasta left over thats how much pasta they give you ! I also had a frozen margarita and 2 other drinks all three were super good. The hookah was really good as well. i came to la catrina sunday may 26 for a birthday we were having a good time up until one of the security guards asked my friends a gay married couple to stop kissing ... I didnt think that people at this day and age were still homophobic and were so under educated to act in such manner .. I undertstand the gentleman that made such atrocious comment was a simple security guard and acted on his own but still this person DISRESPECTED my friends and they felt discriminated with such behaviour .. management should defineltly look into this we were a group of more than 8 people having a good time willing to stay in the stablishment but after the treatment of friend received i dont think i would ever come back and aupport this stablishment we need respect for everyone read more

Expect bad drinks, no water, appetizers that take 2hrs to arrive, managers that don't listen, and mandatory service charge for treating you like you don't exist. Really a shame because this place was legitimately good in the past. I also think they changed the house tequila and it gave the margaritas an awful taste. Not awful like 'this doesn't taste good' but awful like 'is this even safe'? Had they been more receptive to feedback and accommodating, I wouldn't write such a scathing review, but they made me feel bad for even speaking up.
