We stumbled upon this place while looking for a spot to grab dinner before heading to the movie theater across the street. With so much Mexican food in the area, we expected it to be good--but it absolutely blew us away. We ordered the birria tacos with a side of rice and beans, enchiladas, and two margaritas. The birria tacos were honestly an emotional experience. Every bite was packed with deep, rich flavor, and I nearly shed a tear they were that good. The enchiladas were smothered in a dark, smoky red sauce that was incredibly flavorful and downright addictive. The margaritas leaned a little sweet, but somehow still felt perfectly balanced and hit the spot. Service was super quick and perfect. The restaurant itself is a little non-descript but DON'T sleep on it! This spot isn't close to our house, so I was thrilled to learn they have a second location in Kent near us. I already can't wait to go back and work my way through more of the menu. If you're even considering stopping in--do it. read more

We were surprised after all the great reviews for this place. The food was average at best and the portions at these prices were disappointing. The tacos were tiny and expensive. We prefer Ambakity for flavor and size although I haven't found the one in Puyallup yet. Hope to soon. Review for this place paint a picture that just isn't realistic. The people were really nice and the place was clean and modern, but the food was average in my opinion. The first and most concerning issue is the address. There is a store and a taqueria and this listed address is for the store. The Taqueria as it turns out is about 100 yards east and 6-7 storefronts down. The guy in the store didn't speak English, so I was a little confused, but he just kept pointing down the sidewalk and it was literally the very last door. I had the 3-taco combo with carnitas. I've had way better, despite everything being ok, nothing was memorable. Again, the people could not have been nicer, and the prices were decent except for the requested gratuity. It didn't allow you to choose a custom tip, the least you could give is 18% and considering all they do is bring out your food, I think that's ambitious. A very small portion of chips and salsa were served, but neither was refilled, there was a generous salsa bar, but none of the salsas impressed me and I tried them all. If you like this place, I ain't mad at you, but it doesn't remind me of Southern Washington, let alone Southern California. We drove from Seattle to check this place out and pass a whole lot of places I know serve tastier Mexican. I'd take this place over Rinconsito, but that place is mediocre in my opinion. Massive burrito that reminds me of California burritos. I had it made like a street taco, with no beans, onions and cilantro, rice and asada and another time with pastor. For me I had to cut the burrito in half and save the other half for later because if I ate the whole burrito I would end up with food coma. The rice was really good, soft and not dry or undercooked like Chipotle's rice, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the rice is cooked perfectly, and I also hate to rave about rice but I think if you can't cook rice correctly I feel the other stuff won't be cooked well either. There are two La Centrals in this vicinity, we accidentally walked into the grocery store first and then drove down to the actual taqueria. We were super excited to try the food here, even customized a burrito. Unfortunately they messed up on our order and gave us the wrong order. We had ordered to-go and didn't check until we got home. Didn't have the energy to go back, and didn't bother calling them bc nothing would come out of it at this point. We had originally ordered carne asada fries and a chicken burrito. Our order had the carne asada fries but instead of a burrito it came with a torta, and Birria tacos. We really, really wanted to like the food here. The staff are super friendly and they even gave us chips and salsa while we waited for our to-go order. Who does that? Not sure if that's their thing or if they thought we were eating there. The place is interesting inside. Good vibes! They have a long bar table area where you can watch them making all the food behind the glass. But the place where you order food is off to the side and right next to people eating so it made the process a bit awkward as we leaned over tables to get a better view of the menu. The seating layout could be improved. We order Tacos Dorado, Carne Asada Fries, Al Pastor tacos and rice and beans. And the single major issue was clear with every dish; no flavor. I have never seen wife put salt on Mexican food before but it was needed. And I was worried about the Tacos Dorado being chicken because when deep fried, the chicken can get dry real quick. And it was. I usually order them (taquitos) with beef because they don't dry up as much and retain more flavor but that wasn't an option. Honestly, they tasted previously frozen. And the carne asada fries I won't even bother to comment on. We had a couple bites and pushed it aside. The best and most flavorful part of our order were the Al Pastor tacos. However, they were so oily! Just grease dripping down our hands. I think this place is still new and maybe working out some kinks. Maybe it was just a bad day to come in? If I had one little complaint it's that it's not the best place to eat at if you have small children around dinner time. They usually have a ufc fight on or music with the volume up quite a bit. Are you a little more daring and want to try the lengua or tripas? Def get it here. Everything is cleaned well and there is none of that gamey offal taste. The Auguas Frescas rotation always includes: Horchata, Jamaica, and one wild card. Last time I was in, they had a watermelon drink and today it was a watermelon/strawberry/rice milk blend. We have been going to the La Central in Kent for YEARSSS so we were pumped to try this new location that is closer to us. Best quality and MOST authentic Mexican food for MILES. Like actually REAL Mexican food, not americanized. Food: My husband and I ordered two carné asada quesadillas (our usual) that comes on a handmade tortilla. Super delicious per usual.
