Came to telluride for a Wedding, and stumbled upon this place, not bad for breakfast, and the unlimited amount of chips and salsa (HOMEMADE) gave us all the reasons to stay over 3 hours. The staff was great and attentive. Food portions are great, and prices are exactly what they should be, not overpriced because your in Telluride. The breakfast burrito is the homerun, as well as the Huebos Ranchero....the sauces that they provide are also a hit, don't hesitate to try...you will thank me later. read more

Our first trip to Telluride and what a way to start. La Cocina de Luz is a must try if visiting Telluride. We were greeted by someone from their very friendly staff and were seated immediately. Free chips and two types of salsa were brought to the table. The salsa was fresh and delicious. My wife ordered quesadillas and they covered the entire plate. I ordered the special of the day which was a pan seared rainbow trout with quajillo peppers and garlic. Holy cow it was amazing. Everything tasted so fresh. If you see it offered you HAVE to get it. Perhaps I'm a Mexican food snob because I'm from Texas, but this food wasn't great. The food just wasn't flavorful or tasty, though it was totally edible--just lacked character. And the restaurant totally forgot the food for one person in our group, which was fairly awkward. Not my favorite. read more

Came here on a weekend night and there was a short wait. There is seating in the back in addition to limited seating in the main dining area. The menu is average sized and has a good number of options. The horchata was grainy but flavorful. The chicken quesadilla was good with loads of meat. It was soft and juicy. However, the juices soak the bottom of the quesadilla which make it soggy. Overall, not a bad Mexican option here in town. Good to try if you're craving Mexican food. read more

We were searching for a spot for brunch that was dog friendly and landed here as they did not appear to have a huge crowd and had a nice little table for two out front. You walk in and order, and they bring you the food once it is prepared. They have a chips/salsa bar that you can help yourself to while you wait. We ordered the Chilaquiles and the Machaca plates. First off = Hearty portions. So while the prices (I am a tourist from southern AZ) are steep in Telluride - they do not skimp here. Being from Tucson and getting some of the best Sonoran influenced food around and prior to that San Diego where you get amazing Baja influenced food -- I will say I was pretty impressed how flavorful the food here was -- particularly given they have to tailor it to a tourist and certain type of crowd. My husband is Hispanic and enjoyed his machaca plate and was complimentary towards the salsas (which is saying something) in terms of flavor... although he said they could be spicier... but hey, he says that about everything. The beans were a bit, runny but overall we loved everything. Being someone who is still in search of the world's best Chilaquiles and a self proclaimed Chilaquiles connoisseur they were incredibly delicious here! read more

There is a lot of seating capacity, both indoors and outdoors (in the back patio). The enchiladas were yummy and came with a choice of red or green chile (or both). Great breakfast spot for Mexican food. The restaurant is self service which would have been helpful to know. They should put a board up above the counter to instruct customers to order at the counter, water is around the corner with self serve tortilla chips, salsas and sauces. Or add this to the menu. The salsas and fresh cilantro were great. I enjoyed the huevos motulenos which are tostadas with refried beans, eggs and either red or green sauce or both. Wow!!! After an exciting day on LAST DOLLAR ROAD to get to Telluride, and yes this place HAS gone to the DOGS!!! We had looked up dog-friendly places, and this was delicious!!! Their roasted salsa is flavorful and just good! Also enjoyed Queso Fundido, a "new" discovery for me, and was SO excited to see it on their menu...ooey gooey YUM!!! I also enjoyed their pork tostada, FULL of meat, again FLAVOR! Their veggies, man I could have had a plate of veggies, then that dip and called it lunch and dinner. We all enjoyed our meals. Their breakfast burritos are hearty and delicious! We wouldn't have thought to visit a Mexican restaurant for breakfast, but La Cocina de Luz did not disappoint. The breakfast portions are large, so plan to share unless you have a large appetite. Service was superb, and their dining area has some great views of Main Street in Telluride. I enjoy that they have vegan options here...there aren't a lot of places in Dallas that are vegan friendly. I had the vegan tamale with green sauce, Spanish rice, and beans. It was all decent enough. The rice was lacking flavor and the texture was a bit different. The beans were just okay. The tamale was pretty good, nothing special. Unless you're a local you may not know what the heck to do when you walk in. Do you sit do you go to the counter do you wait? There was a group at the bar so I assumed that's where you go and you do. You order, pay and take a number. Then you "go get your own chips and salsa if you'd like". It's fine to have more of a self serve business but it would help to have some signs. The food is mediocre I got the Chile rellenos with green sauce and it needed some spice or more flavor. The sautéed veggies on the side were really good though. I was recommended the enchiladas but don't usually like enchiladas so didn't follow their advice, maybe I should have! The house margarita wasn't sweet which is nice. Overall I'm glad I had somewhere to eat in the slow or off season when I'm town for work but nit planning to come back. read more

Surprised with how much we liked this little hole in the wall. 3 out of four got the burrito, two with carne asada and one with chicken. I got the special soup of the day which was a roasted corn and poblano soup. I would definitely recommend the chicken burrito! Chicken is shredded and had lots of flavor. Carne asada was good too, I just liked the chicken bite better. Soup was a little spicy but nice flavors. Margaritas were expensive but tasty. My favorite part was the homemade salsa bar. Since COvid started I haven't seen a "get it yourself" bar like this and I'm happy to see they're back! read more
