The female employee insisted that I take a menu, required me to sit down at the table and told me she would take my order. I saw no signage indicating that dining in required a server. I ordered a taco salad, and unfortunately this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. When I arrived, I noticed the taco salad shells were already stacked on the counter before being used to prepare orders. Taco shells don't take long to make, so I don't understand why they were being prepared ahead of time and left sitting out. My shell was grabbed from that stack and my salad was assembled. After I got home and started eating, I noticed a very strong chemical taste on the side and bottom of the taco shell, the parts people normally eat. The flavor was unmistakably like a cleaning product, similar to Pine-Sol or Fabuloso. I immediately stopped eating and threw the food away because I was concerned it had been contaminated. I called the restaurant right away and spoke with the manager. I explained that my food tasted like a cleaning product and that I was concerned the food had been contaminated. The manager asked me to come back for a replacement, but I was already about 35 minutes away. After experiencing what I did, I wasn't interested in driving over an hour round trip for another taco salad. The manager said he would need to get approval and would call me back, but I never received a follow-up. Because of the seriousness of the situation and the lack of response, I filed a food safety complaint with San Mateo County Environmental Health Services so the incident could be investigated. This isn't the first time I've had a concerning experience here. On another visit, I found a piece of wire in my tacos, and I have a photo documenting it. Taken together, these experiences have raised serious concerns for me about the restaurant's food safety and quality control. What disappointed me most wasn't just the contaminated food, it was the lack of accountability and follow-through afterward. You can come to La Corneta for either a takeaway or a dine in experience. We decided to dine in and a staff member seated us and got some menus brought out. We ordered a couple of super burritos and an enchilada plate. One of the burritos was for my kids to share and they brought out an extra plate and cut the burrito in half proactively. My enchiladas were nice and cheesy and came with some fresh, soft red rice and my preferred choice of beans on the side. Of course, you get some complimentary chips and salsa for the table which were warm, not overly salty or greasy, and had just the right crunch to them. Ever since Hola closed years ago I find the margaritas around town to be too small, shishi, and expensive. Here you get a proper- sized, flavorful, well- made cocktail at a fair price- best on the Peninsula, imo. But I really want to recommend Blanca because of her service. She took orders, waited tables AND tended bar. I'd have to say she is the hardest working restaurant worker on the peninsula and was sure she must be a part owner (which she is not). I have been coming here every time I visit family for a little over 4 years now so it's time to give my honest review. This taqueria is located in a very busy area so parking is definitely a pain when coming here. Once you walk in to the restaurant, the line to order is right there with a huge menu right behind. There are a lot of tables to sit at and outdoor dining is available as well. Food: the food is delicious and prices for the food that you get is good. I always come here for the burritos and get the perfect amount of every ingredient. One thing that is disappointing is the spice. I always ask for spicy and it is not hot at all. Their rice has peas and carrots but still tastes like traditional rice and the refried beans are not too salty so you can always add more salt to your liking. The Frescas are really good. I've had horchata, pineapple, and cantaloupe and they have always been really good. The salsas are good as well. My favorite is the green and the tomatillo to chile ratio is perfect. The other salsa tastes like ceviche minus the meats, still good because of all the fresh ingredients. The tortillas chips are always good and they stay cooking them in the back and kept under a heating lamp in the front when serving. I only had the churros and they're good, but I've had better. Service: definitely a hit or miss when it comes to customer service here. I usually sit down to eat with my family and the waiter/waitress is good with checking on us and refilling our drinks. I will say, I have never had an issue with ordering food. Whoever takes the orders is patient and very polite. Picking up your to go order is where it goes down hill from my experience. I think that they get flustered with orders at the front and they lose their momentum. When you're seated, you really don't notice this, especially if you are engaged in conversation. I came here to place to go orders on 12/19/25 and 12/23/25. Let me add that I am an extremely empathetic person and have worked in this type of environment so I understand that it can be hectic. On the 19th, I asked for some tortilla chips and the young girl at the register told me "chips don't come with your order and you need to buy it separately." Mind you, I just spent $70 on food. I usually get a bag of chips when I order burritos but you don't get them here if you order to go. I found that odd and unpleasant because it's a dollar something for a bag. For the amount I spent, I don't see why giving me a small bag of chips is a big deal. I ended up paying for it, no biggy. However, this is where customer service comes into play. You want me to come back to your restaurant, and I have. Just give someone who has a big order a bag of chips when they ask for it lol. On the 23rd, the night before they close for the Christmas holiday, I waited almost 20 minutes for a regular burrito and nachos. By the time my food was ready, an older lady did not want to give me my food because she insisted that I pay first. I explained to her that I did and even had my receipt in hand but she still refused to hand me my bag. That was super annoying and by the time I got to my hotel, 10 minutes down the road, I opened my box and it seemed like it was sitting there for the 20 minutes I was waiting because the cheese was hard at the bottom and chips were soggy. We got charged an extra $0.25 for a plastic bag by default - staff didn't even ask if we needed a bag or not. I would have liked the option to say no, but oh well, it's just a quarter. We also got complimentary chips and salsa with our order, but the chips tasted a bit stale. The drink itself was fine and not too sweet, which is what I preferred. However, the burrito was so, so tasteless. I have never had a worse burrito, and this was also when I was in a state of hunger. Yes, it came with guac and cheese, but somehow that didn't make it any better. We used every last drop of the salsas and even found extra fire sauce packets from Taco Bell in the condiment drawer to drown the burrito in. It's expectations vs. reality for me. I expected this place to be extremely mediocre, so when it was pretty good, I was happy. I got a baby burrito, carnitas, with sour cream and guacamole. For about $10 out the door I was happy with the amount of food I got. The carnitas was unimpressive but not bad. It could use more flavor, but the roasted salsa covered for that blandness nicely enough. My burrito had a good proportion of ingredients (not overloaded on beans/rice) and was well-assembled and double wrapped. When you're on the go, these details matter and I appreciated the careful execution. I will give this place another try on my next lunch break. I'm curious if other proteins are more savory. If they are, I'll probably make this a regular stop. It's not food to write home about, but I enjoyed my meal and the value was good. I really enjoy the food here. I'm a burrito guy; so I usually only order those. I've had their steak fajitas burritos the carnitas burrito. Both delicious. The only tiny problem was that the last time I ordered from here, a friend got the carne asada burrito and was halfway through it before he came upon any meat. He's diabetic and ordered it explicitly to get a pack of protein to maintain his glucose. I think this was maybe just a bad oversight and inconsistency as we had also ordered quesadillas that were stuffed with the meat of our choice, and I didn't have any issues with my burritos.
