I got myself a surf and turf burrito here and it was delicious. I could not believe how fast they made the food and the hot sauce they give is great as well. Been going here since I moved back. Food is still delicious. They never got my order wrong unlike some places. You get a lot of fillings for your tacos. Ceviche is superb. I think that the mariscos la costa location on monterey road is much better. I ordered a regular burrito al pastor and a carne asada taco. The taco itself didn't have much meat! Usually you get meat that when you eat it falls off the side a bit but here, not so much. I also ordered an al pastor burrito. Most of the burrito was just tortilla? I'm usually a big fan of al pastor in tacos but the one that went into the burrito just didn't taste amazing. The al pastor wasn't the one that was carved off the spinning wheel but some pork marinated in some sauce and used as the protein? Not my type of al pastor i look forward to. Others seem to have more pleasant experiences but the one today wasn't the greatest. I usually also get radishes along with the burrito/taco but this location doesn't serve them? The monterey one does. From now on, I'll probably stop going to this location and instead go to the one on monterey road. Came here to get some food togo during COVID-19 times although we just ended up eating at the restaurant anyways! I was deciding between the chicken tacos or the veggie tostada. I decided to get the veggie tostada plate. The tostada was a crispy shell with beans, lettuce, sour cream, cheese, an avocado slice, and a slice of tomato. This was pretty disappointing. I wish that there were actual veggies on the veggie tostada. If no veggies then at least more than 1 slice of avocado, diced tomatoes, and salsas. My friends ordered other dishes from here and they looked much more presentable and had a lot of other toppings. I think the veggie tostada needs some work. Another thing that I was disappointed about was that the beans were so watery. I have never seen beans like this. They were so watery that they went straight through my fork. This made it very hard to eat. The beans were actually pretty flavorful, I just wish they weren't so watery. I really enjoyed the rice though. No complaints about those, it tasted like authentic Mexican rice. Just a heads up that this place is cash only. So make sure you remember to bring cash. I came with my friends today to get some tacos and enjoy some outdoor dining. We ordered beef steak tacos, beef tongue tacos and half a dozen oysters. The food took awhile to come out and wasn't as hot as I would've wanted it to be. I saw that La Costa used to have battered fish tacos but they're not on the menu anymore, so I was a bit disappointed there weren't fish tacos. The beef steak and beef tongue tacos were decent, but I felt that the meat wasn't particularly well-seasoned - the meat texture was good, but a bit bland. The tacos were a bit smaller than I expected them to be. However the oysters were AMAZING, tasted delicious and were decently sized. I may come back for the oysters and maybe try the ceviche instead of tacos. This place is cash only. The parking lot is a bit small, but there seems to be street parking if the parking lot is full. This place seems to be popular with locals, with everyone except me ordering in Spanish, and Mexican music playing in the background. On a nice day the seating is fine, but on a very rainy day it can be a wet experience. The Tacos de Camerón (http://bit.ly/33Wxkge) were very good, with large shrimp, red cabbage, onions, covered with a chipotle sauce, and a slice of lime and slices of radish on the side. Two of them were perfect for me, three would've put men into Prices have increased a little since back in the early 10s, but that's to be expected considering supply chain problems and the cost of food has increased tremendously as a result of the pandemic. If I have to pay a $1-2 more per taco to support a local business, i'm going to do it! The fish itself is fried goodness, three strips into one taco, topped with slaw and a chipotle crema. The chipotle cream has an unassuming kick to it, which I absolutely loved. They do the double corn-tortilla to hold these monster tacos together. The tortilla itself isn't my favorite, I'd prefer them to be on the grill a tad bit longer. Important to remember, it's CASH ONLY. I was excited to find out that La Costa was right next to my new doctor's office. This restaurant has been bookmarked on Yelp for the longest time because of all the reviews on the fish tacos. Ever since I left Riverside I have not been able to find a place that had similar style fish tacos until now. My boyfriend and I each had a taco - $5 each. Sorta expensive but reasonably priced since we felt like it was pretty filling. The fish was in a deep fry batter covered with pico de gallo and a creamy orange sauce. Overall it was delicious but - like some other reviews state - there is a lot of sauce so it does overpower the taco by a bit. Worst Mexican food I've ever had. I use to go to this place many years ago and they were the best in town. My burrito was inedible. The beans and rice were so runny and they didn't wrap the burrito tight enough so within 2 bites it was all over my clothes, car and hands. My friends rave about this place alll the time and I finally got to try it a few days ago! It definitely didn't disappoint. I ordered the carne asada burrito, shrimp burrito and shrimp ceviche tostada to share with my friend and everything was so good! The shrimp burrito was my favorite and had such good flavor to it. The restaurant is following all protocols when it comes to COVID. There is nothing to worry about on this front. The employee who took my order was wearing a mask, and I was able to see everyone inside were wearing masks as well. Customer service was fantastic! I know other places would have told me "no," but it was great to have my mistake corrected without feeling completely terrible about it. Now, let's get to the main event. The food was amazing. This place is super cool. I haven't seen an outdoor Mexican restaurant like this in a while. There's parking on the side so you don't have to find street parking. There is limited seating outside and it's probably spaced out for social distancing. There is about 3 - 4 tables available. The ordering and wait time is extremely fast. My partner waited about less than 10 minutes for the whole process. This place has amazing prices. $8 for a burrito. The burrito was basically enough for 2 meals for me. The menu is simple, although not the most descriptive, but I appreciated the pictures of some of their popular items. There's a tiny window where you place your order and another window where you pick up your food after your number is called over an intercom. We absolutely loved the fish tacos, noting the crispy batter and buttery fish. The sauce was delightfully creamy and the fresh cabbage helped to brighten up the heavy taco. However, we were disappointed that the taco wasn't toasted in any way. Similarly, the shrimp taco was just as delicious, served with the same house sauce and fresh cabbage. The shrimp themselves, however, were juicy and plump. The hubby also got an order of the cheese quesadilla which came out piping hot! We could barely unfold the aluminum foil without burning our fingers. The cheese had that gooey, Instagram-worthy stretch and was super creamy. This is hands down one of the best authentic taco joints in San Jose. I've been coming to La Costa for over a decade, since my college days! The food has remained consistent and still good as ever over the years. I usually go to the location on Monterey Rd, but came here during my last visit - both locations are great. I usually just order the al pastor tacos and add both red and green sauces to it. So good and satisfying! I've tried their burritos before and it's always pretty good as well. During my last visit, I ordered their fish taco and it turned out better than expected. The fish taco is much bigger than their street tacos, so one was pretty filling. Oh yeah, make sure to call to verify their hours. We came here last night during their Yelp business hours and they were closed. Bummer! read more
