Not gonna lie: I am definitely not a French food fan at all, but I've loved this place for many years and am finally getting around to a review. The ambience is extra charming and cozy, and the servers are wonderful -- polite and helpful, always making thoughtful suggestions. The menu consists of straightforward, authentic offerings of classic French dishes such as French Onion soup, a robust range of crepes (main meal as well as decadent dessert), traditional French sandwiches, salads, and excellent appetizers (fine cheese/meat trays). The wine list is better-than-decent. I usually get the Salade Nicoise, which is very hearty and satisfying, and pairs nicely with their bread and butter. There is something especially inviting about this restaurant with its rustic fare and equally inviting interior. Wow the memories! It's been over 20 years since I've been here and it looks like it was frozen in time. Crepes were still delicious and satisfying. We had the beef bourginon and the chicken with mushrooms Crepes. Sooooo good! Also ordered an appetizer of escargot which were garlicky, buttery, and scrumptious. Unfortunately my second experience at this place was not so good at all. The place is still cozy, but the crepe was really bad. It was so hard than when I tried to cut through it, my knife actually bounced off it and fell on the floor, lol. Must have been premade and microwaved later which hardened it to cardboard texture. Was super salty too. Crepes are so easy to make that it's not acceptable for a crepe place to serve crepes that knifes bounce off. read more

Let's start off with the good- The ambiance is terrific, it felt like a European speak easy. The dessert crepes are all good and the suzette is to die for. I'll come back just for that dessert. La Creperie has a beautiful patio area but the crepes are only okay. Food- I have tried 3 crepes there. My favorite was the Chicken Curry Crepe followed by the Chicken and Tomato Crepe. My least favorite was the plain banana crepe. It really does need the chocolate or caramel- so I'd advice getting those. My dining companion ordered it plain. I feel there's not a ton of variety to the savory menu side. Service- our service was pretty good. Attentive, friendly and personable. I would go again but I would not rush back. read more

Charming French restaurant serving mainly crepes. We felt as though we were back on vacation in France. Lovely ambiance and servers. We dropped in on La Creperie on mothers day without a reservation and were treated amazingly by the hard working staff! What a cute place! We were seated in the front dining room. There is another dining space towards that back of the building and a cute outdoor patio. My husband had a spinach crepe that they added goat cheese to for him. The flavor was outstanding. Stopped in mid afternoon on a Saturday for a bite on mothers day. It was before the dinner crowd so we got lucky. Three areas to sit, front room, back room, and outdoor patio. The menu had enough variety on it so that it was not just all crepes. My wife ordered the french onion soup which is definitely a menu go to, they make a good french onion soup. My daughter ordered strawberries and cream crepe and it was yummy. I had the spinach and butter cream crepe and had them add goat cheese to it, it was good as well. They have all kinds of crepes to choose from, dessert, curry indian, etc. I also indulged in an aged cognac that was lovely. The service was very friendly and pleasant and the room was for the most part full. Tip - They are located across the street from the movie theater and they have an after movie dessert crepe special. This place is a !! I've never had anything like it before. My boyfriend and I were on the hunt for something new and came across this on Yelp. We stayed off with the snail appetizer. The Danika were full of flavor and cooked perfectly. We loved the French bread so that we could scoop up the oil left over from the snails. Our main course included Epinards crème ~ Sautéed spinach in a butter cream sauce and Poulet au curry ~ Chicken in a curry cream sauce with mango chutney. Both were phenomenal! I love the crispy outside and they were heavily filled. I would come here time and time again for brunch. Btw, they have a great patio! The lack of a 5th star is because the building is hot. Came here for dinner tonight! Such a cute place. My boyfriend and I walk past this place all the time and decided it was time to try it! We walked in and couldn't believe how large the place was. It kept going back and back! I read past reviews saying the patio was pretty so we decided to sit out back. The chairs were kinda cheap and old but the seating area itself was cute! We each ordered a glass of wine. I got the house white and my boyfriend got the house red. We shared a bowl of French onion soup and it was DELICIOUS! It was cheesy and an overall ball of goodness! I ordered the crepe with chicken & mushrooms which was creamy and delicious. It didn't feel overly heavy either. My boyfriend got the chicken, goat cheese, & sundried tomato crepe which he liked! This place has so many great crepes, great ambiance, and great service. The savory crepes with beef, chicken curry, or spinach are all amazing. The dessert crepes with lemon, orange , or chocolate are to die for. They have great wine, and it feels like you are on a side street in Paris where the French are actually nice. I've been to La Creperie a couple of times and I wasn't disappointed either of those times. The menu is vast with a good balance between sweet and savory. They also have plenty of vegetarian and non vegetarian options which is always good. The service was pretty decent and we never had a "oh where on earth is the waiter" feeling. I ordered the crepes florntine. The eggs were cooked excellently and the entire dish was creamy and rich with the spinach and cheese. The spinach was salted well which overall balanced out the dish well. The crepes weren't falling apart thin, but that was honestly a good thing as it helped hold up the main part of the dish. OMG! My husband and I stopped by for a beef crepe, . Keep on mind one been dining at Le Creperie for many years and it's always been good. Now you show up and they completely ignore you! The beef crepe was dried out and coagulated because it was so old! I mentioned this to the daughter's owner and apparently angered her cause she took my phone number and never bothered to call. I always come here when I am depressed and it picks me right the hell up. Makes me feel like I a took a mini vacay to Paris to some divey little brasserie off the side of some dark end street. I never feel rushed here, the servers don't hound you to death, and the wine list never disappoints. I have been coming here since the latter part of the 1970's, at least, and not much has changed. Still good crepes made the same way, buttery and tasty. Salads still have that crispy crunch and the house dressing still sweet and salty. This place always reminds me of the good things about this city that are left. Not much, I'll grant you that, can stand up to the test of time like this place. Maybe The Duke of Perth a few doors down. I always manage to come on the night when the Edith Piaf is blasting overhead. Then I thank God I am alive. read more

I've been wanting to try this place since I moved to the neighborhood about a year ago, because some of the best crêpes I've ever had were in France (I know, I know, I'M BRAGGING). La Crêperie has awesome reviews, so I figured they would do authentic crêpes justice! I visited around 2 or 3 pm on a Tuesday afternoon, so it wasn't too busy. In fact, there was only one other woman in there, and she was getting ready to leave when I walked in. This was perfect, because with this relaxed ambience I felt comfortable just eating and reading a book, which was exactly what I was looking for. There are quite a few options for savory crêpes on the menu, along with sweet ones as well. They also have salads, soups, coffee and espresso, and even some sandwiches. I was very much looking for a savory crêpe and was tempted by their extensive wine and cocktail menu, but I also have a low tolerance and wanted my day to be productive beyond 3 pm. 0:) I ordered the Ratatouille crêpe, which was made with onions, zucchini, and peppers, but I also added Swiss cheese, because I think cheese is a savory crêpe staple. Just so you know -- which I did not -- if you add cheese it costs an extra two dollars. I really thought it would be more like $.50 or $.75, but I also should've asked. I also initially thought the listed price of the crêpe, at $12.50, was a bit steep. However, when it was brought out to me, it was gigantic and thick. I do not think I have ever seen such a thick crêpe, so I was very impressed, and honestly my first thought was that the price fairly reflected what was brought out to me. The quiet atmosphere was perfect for someone like me who wanted to sit and read a book. The service was also totally on point: When I was halfway through with my crêpe and sort of pushed it to the side, she came up almost immediately and asked if I wanted a box, and brought my check promptly after. If you are looking for something relaxing-ye- casual, I'd recommend La Crêperie. If you're looking for something cheap, I probably would go elsewhere. However, you are definitely getting your money's worth even though the prices are a little higher than your average lunch spot. read more

Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. The interior is incredibly cozy and looks like you've stepped back into the 1970's (that's meant as a high compliment). The outdoor seating in the back is cozy and delightful. A perfect oasis in the middle of the city. For me this is an A+ brunch spot with fantastic sweet and savory crepes. An absolute gem to the neighborhood and I'm glad it's a well kept secret to us locals :) The place looks deceivingly small from the outside but they have another big room in the back for larger parties. I prefer the front room with the dimmed lighting, fireplace, and beautiful art display - magnfique! I just adore coming here and a cold night for a cozy, intimate, yet relaxed meal. The French onion soup is a must and so are any of their cocktails! Their savory crepes (has buckwheat) are more authentic than I'm used to and wasn't what I was expecting (more dry?) but delicious none-the-less. Our waitress was knowledgeable and sweet. Disclaimer: not a crepe expert. Never even been to France. So my review is in comparison to some wonderful crepes I enjoyed a few years ago at What Crepe? in metro Detroit (I know - of all places!). Upon being seated at La Creperie, I was delighted to find out that they have 1/2 off wine bottles on Tuesdays! So of course we went with a cabernet sauvignon to start. Our waiter was very attentive, and kinda quirky. He even pointed us in the right direction for dessert when we lost our way. But first we ordered the mushroom brie soup, and some savory crepes for dinner. I had the ratatouille crepe with chevre, and I would definitely recommend adding the cheese. The crepe itself was not what I was expecting. I guess I'm just used to, and prefer, a thinner and fluffier texture. But it was still a good crepe overall. And the atmosphere was nice too - not too crowded or loud. I loved loved loved the decorative tin ceiling tiles. This is supposedly the oldest crepe place in US! Located in Lincoln Park/Lakeview area, its a very cosy, romantic restaurant with the walls covered in French posters. Oh, and did I mention they have an outdoor seating - perfect during summer time! I tried their Ratatouille (savory), Suzette á la Germain (sweet) crepes and they were absolutely delicious. This shop is tucked away in the lakeview neighborhood, we only came here because my friend had been here before and it French onion soup seemed to be the best option for a snowy cold Chicago afternoon. La Creperie is super super cute and yummy. The interior is bigger than what it seems from the outside as there's a backroom that seats about 30 more people. I came with a couple of good friends for brunch on a cold winter morning. The 4 of us were able to get seated in about 5-10 minutes which was really nice. The hot cider was delicious and gorgeously presented, especially with the added touch of cinnamon sticks dropped inside. I only had a few sips of the french onion soup but was pretty impressed. It's not overwhelmingly salty like many other locations which made it taste that much better. As usual, I couldn't decide whether to get a sweet or savory crepe as there were so many appealing options on the menu but luckily my friend was there to split with me. We got the Poulet aux champignons and the Banana sara. Both were fantastic although the banana sara had the slight winning edge for me. The brown sugar caramel sauce is aaaamazing. Both crepes were pretty stuffed with ingredients and I was definitely extremely full!
