We had to have our 16 year old Samson euthanized at the same time my mother's viewing was taking place. As you might imagine, it was not an easy time for our family. However, La Fin Veterinary made this unfortunate process as smooth as it could possibly go. After finding the phone number on Yelp, I called Melissa at about 2pm and presented Samson's symptoms and what I believed were the next best steps. She was compassionate and clear with what services La Fin offered and at what cost. She was able to help me set an appointment for Dr. Charlie to come to our home to euthanize Samson just two hours later. Dr. Charlie called when he was on his way and when he arrived, he made sure I understood every step of what was going to happen. He was technical, but not cold. In fact he held space for me to be as sad and emotional as I needed to be given the circumstances. He was efficient, but not in a rush. Dr. Charlie took the time to make a paw print and save some of Samson's fur. For payment there was an option to pay through Zelle before Dr. Charlie's visit or once Dr. Charlie was at home. It's been less than 2 weeks since we said goodbye to Samson and his urn is ready to be picked up tomorrow. Melissa sent a text 3-4 days in advance to let us know so we could prepare to pick him up. Dr. Charlie informed me that Melissa is trained to help people with grief. This is evidence that they truly understand how difficult saying goodbye to our pets/companions is and care enough to make sure they are skilled enough to support their customers.

We wanted to have our dog Max pass away at home where he felt most comfortable and was HOME instead of a cold patient office space at the vet. I am so happy we did this and went with La Fin Veterinary. This was a first time for our family and having to loose one of our own whom we love so incredibly much was beyond hard. This is one of the hardest things I have ever experienced. They were incredibly kind, thoughtful, and sympathetic throughout the whole process even from the beginning of me asking questions about the process. Melissa spent a long time on the phone with me answering all of my questions and just being there for me as I was processing having to loose a family member. Once it was time, Dr Charlie came to our home and was incredibly kind, patient, and sympathetic from the beginning. Even in his last moments as hard as it was Max got up with his tail wagging to greet Dr. Charlie as he walked onto our lawn. Dr. Charlie let us take our time with Max and made sure we were ready to say goodbye. And he also let us take our time after Max had passed on. He explained every step and did not proceed until we were ready. They also took care of everything including Dr. Charlie taking Max with him to get cremated; if that is what you choose. Thank you Dr. Charlie for making letting our loved one go a little easier with your love, kindness and compassion.

This is probably too soon, but I'll do anything to distract from the pain I'm feeling at the moment. Our beloved Frannie was 10 years old, an American staffy, and her health fell off a cliff in the last 48 hours. She was diagnosed with things we couldn't fix and the vet allowed us to take her home for one last night. I scrambled to find the right place to help me end her pain. I reached out to over a dozen in home euthanasia places in the OC through yelp. Dr. Charlie's team was the most compassionate, most honest, most flexible people I talked to. I kept changing my mind about when I wanted them to come, I couldn't make a decision until finally, I decided to let her go this morning. The whole time, their team was responsive and understanding via text, gently walking me through every step. You and your beloved pet won't be in better hands than Dr. Charlie's. I always feared the end of my Frannie's life, but I'm so grateful that La Fin veterinary made it such a beautiful, peaceful experience for all of us. We let her move on with so much dignity and peace that the pain of losing her is very much lessened. I won't ever be able to thank you enough, Dr. Charlie. Thank you so, so much. We had enough time to kiss our girl goodbye and tell her how much we loved her. I feel at peace. I'll probably still cry for a long time but I feel lucky that my last memories of her are beautiful ones. Thank you for that gift, Dr. Charlie.

This was my second time with Dr. Charlie. Going through this experience again reminded me this was the best way to cherish my fur baby -- in the comfort of her home, with her favorite blanket while surrounded by loved ones. Just like before, Dr. Charlie was very patient and understanding throughout the experience. He made sure we were all comfortable and shared the process of what's happening. This time around, I had more time to prepare for my senior cat. We got rotisserie chicken and flowers, played calming music, and put together a photo slideshow where we talked about our favorite memories. Ashley loved the chicken, of course. I laid Ashley on her favorite soft blanket by the sun. Dr. Charlie began taking a clay paw print and explained each step. Once she passed, I set flowers around her bed and then put the flowers in vases to create a memorial. Reflecting on this hard decision a few days later, I realize this is the best goodbye we could provide for our cat. She was comfortable and surrounded by love with her favorite people. She was not scared, in pain or struggling, or alone. This was difficult but peaceful in the end.

Through the whole process (scheduling, during euthanasia, and after), this team was so helpful, caring, and supportive. My sweet pitbull Redd was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks back, and when we finally made he decision, we reached out to La Fin and were treated so well. This was a hard choice for us, but we were comforted by La Fin. When Dr. Charlie came to our home, he was incredibly kind and patient with us (everyone at the house was a mess, but he was so understanding and let us take our time with each step). Redd loved him right away, it was as though he could tell Dr. Charlie was a good person and someone who was here to help us all. The process was great, we were talking through everything that was happening, and it did not feel rushed (I put my cat down many years ago at a vet's office, and it felt so cold and quick). Being at home allowed Redd and my family to be comfortable and at ease with everything. After everything was done, Dr. Charlie took a paw imprint for us and a clipping of Redd's hair. He gently took him away, and we knew our sweet boy was in good hands from then on out. Dr. Charlie and the staff later followed up with an email and post postcard, expressing their condolences and offering support if we needed it. While this is not a decision anyone wants to make, if you have to, I highly recommend La Fin Veterinary. They will treat you well and will make this hard process easier on you and your family. I cannot say enough about Dr. Charlie and his compassionate, caring staff at La Fin. From start to finish of this painful process, they were amazing and made the process so smooth and so easy. My 14 year old pitbull, Deacon, took a liking to Dr. Charlie right away. At that moment, I knew I picked the right guy to help my boy cross the rainbow bridge. The hardest decision I never thought I ever had to make! It still leaves me with a knot in my throat! But time was running out for us, we couldn't bare seeing my pup in so much pain. I was afraid to let her go honestly. We constantly looked for solutions .even after every vet visit, we knew what we had to do. Believe it or not, I thought euthanizing my pet at the vet was going to be a little comforting, since my first fur baby left us naturally at home, but I was wrong!! I never thought at home euthanasia was an option I looked online, and it led me here. The reviews were 5+ and gave me comfort with the decision we were about to make. And let me tell you, it was the best best best decision we ever did! My little Lola was at home with all her family , in her bed (and not some cold metal table)as much as this decision is so heartbreaking, I rather live in pain than having her suffer! Dr Charlie. Deeply thankful to Dr. Charlie and his team. We contacted La Fin at 11 pm due to complications with my dog's health. We were very surprised to get a reply at midnight from Dr. Charlie's team and were able to make an appointment the same day at 9 AM. The entire process was done with the utmost care and my dog, Jett was able to pass peacefully in his home with his family instead of being scared in a veterinarian's office. Dr. Charlie and his team were very supportive and kind throughout the entire process and words cannot express how grateful I am that he was able to provide this service for us. He provided a beautiful basket for my dog once he had passed and wrapped him very nicely in a blanket with some flowers. He also provided a cremation service and we were able to pick up Jett in a wooden urn two weeks later. Anyone looking for someone to help their dog pass peacefully will definitely not regret choosing La Fin Veterinary. read more

This had to be one of the hardest things to do as we made our decision yesterday for our sweet cat Gizmo to pass on She gave us 12 beautiful years and we still remember finding her as nearly a new born in our back yard. On such a stressful and heartbreaking day, Dr. Charlie was a near literal ray of sunshine, making the process as positive as it possibly could be. He was available for a late-night visit and kept us up to date as he was traveling to us. When he arrived, his vibe was nothing but calm, comforting, caring, and understanding. I am so thankful I found Dr. Charlie. He is so kind and the experience was so peaceful for my cat Max. I was really worried because he had many vet visits a few years ago when he was diagnosed with cancer and really would panic anytime I needed to put him in his carrier so being able to do the euthanasia at home was the best solution for us. Dr. Charlie spent almost an hour with us making sure Max was comfortable with him before starting the process so there was no stress about the process. If you are reading this, you are joining all of us grieving parents in one of the hardest decisions you probably wish you didn't have to make. Our fur son, Duce was showing signs of leaving us, but we kept on hoping that everything would be okay until the end. After seeing him suffering day after day (breathing hard, not able to keep his balance and losing weight from not eating), we knew that the time was near. I searched for the best vet with 5-star reviews and started calling to find the best doctor to assist us in our unbearable decision. We spoke to La Fin and the staff were compassionate and went beyond customer service. Their reviews were the number one reason we wanted Dr. Charlie. My husband and I finally made the appointment, even though our hearts were not ready. We were selfish, we wanted Duce to stay with us even though we could see clearly it was not right to let him lose his health and dignity day by day. When Dr. Charlie arrived, he was so kind and patient with us. We were divided on whether to go through with the procedure and could not unanimously agree. Dr. Charlie saw how stressed we were, so instead of rushing us or making us feel like we were wasting his time or even advocating for the procedure, he asked if we would like him to step out so we could talk more. We thought about how Duce loved us so unconditionally and unequivocally, that he kept hanging on, even when he's clearly in pain, he tried to hide it and be the good boy that he is - the strong protector of our family. Dr. Charlie never once used the "D" word or made us feel like we were selfish for putting Duce through pain. Instead, he was compassionate and talked us through the whole process giving us both pros and cons of whether we should move forward or wait for Duce to naturally leave us. Afterall, no one wants to be in this position, and no one wants to see their child or loved ones suffer day after day like this. When we finally decided to move forward, Dr. Charlie walked us through the process and never once rushed us. He gave the first shot and Duce did not even feel it. Then after the 2nd, we told Duce that he was a good boy and did his job well and we love him and it was okay for him to go. When Dr. Charlie said, "Duce received his wings", our hearts were at peace. I imagined Duce flying towards God's loving hands and telling us that he will be there waiting for us with his brothers. As I reflect on our experience, it was super hard and stressful, but Dr. Charlie never made us feel like Duce was just a dog. He treated Duce like his own fur son showing him compassion and love the way we did. For that, words can't express how blessed we are that God sent Dr. Charlie to us. As this experience is still raw, I was moved by a note from Dr. Charlie the next day, letting us know that he and the La Fin family would always be there for us through our time of grieving. Research and shop no more. You have found the right doctor to assist you here with Dr. Charlie. The cost is competitive, and they do not make you feel like they just want your money. Dr. Charlie truly cares about your fur baby. He is a pet parent too and knows exactly what we are going through! Back in April, we had to say goodbye to our beloved Troy, who was nearly 13 years old. He had been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer shortly after losing an eye, and although he fought bravely, his health declined very quickly. After reading many reviews and looking at a few different companies the one we felt the most comfortable with was La fin. His team provided me with so much information via text which was very nice since it was such a difficult subject to talk about. Not once did I feel like I was being sold a service or felt pressured to make a decision. They also allow you to pay ahead of time so that the day of you can focus on what's important. Just wanted to share my experience with La Fin. From the moment I received a call back. Renee and Dr. Charlie made me feel at peace comfortable with the decision I was about to make. My Onyx girl had breast cancer and after her surgery it unfortunately spread to her lungs and we caught it too late. Her quality of life started to decline fast. And was forced to make the hard decision to terminate her pain. I think it was the hardest but easiest decision. I knew I didn't want her to be at the vet and deal with all the noise and anxiety that comes with every vet visit. I wanted her to be at peace and in her own home. He brought Mochi's ashes back less than a week later (on Thanksgiving week) in a wooden urn with a clay keepsake of her paws. I ordered an extra clay keepsake for $35 . I really appreciated that they pick up and drop off, and Gelver was very kind and gentle and was such a hard worker. You can tell these two have much love for pets. Last week on the 23rd right before christmas, my dog of 14 years passed away at home. I remembered my bsf used FF and I reached out to get their info. I contacted them immediately and was assisted by Heather. She was very kind and helpful over the phone, gave me all the info about the various packages they offer. They offer 3 different cremations packages (private, witness, and communal). I chose to go with private bc witness was more than double the price of private. However, don't be nervous about going with private bc they have numerous ways to ensure that you will be obtaining your pet's remains back even if you aren't able to witness the full process. The private package included a simple urn (a box), paw/nose impression, and fur clipping. In their viewing room, they have numerous urns to choose from and upgrade from the package. Although it was so close to the holidays, I was able to pick up my baby girl the day after christmas. They were kind enough to gift us with a bamboo impression of her nose and paw as an ornament as well. The whole service and communication was truly great. I had no doubt in trusting Heather and her family with taking care of my pet. You can feel how much they care about animals and their passion in helping families get closure and having a beautiful send off for their pets. They charge extra for after hours past 5:30pm, so keep that in mind.. but they were responsive. I think this company is a subsidiary of another, because the person doing intake referred to their company as rose cremations. We were a bit frustrated with their services after the initial intake. They said that the entire process would take 5-7 days and that they would call us to schedule a drop-off or pickup. That didn't happen. We gave it time, called about 20 days later, and tried to coordinate a pickup time - less availability than when initially booking their services. The day of pickup, we were scheduled for 4:30pm. I arrived 5 mins early, gave the front door a ring, and nobody showed so I gave them a call. The lady assured me they would be 5 minutes out. I wait.. 5, then 10, then 15. I eventually call Constantine directly and he gives me the real time he'll arrive. I would have appreciated the lady being honest vs. padding the time so that we could organize our own day better. Ultimately, we all have a lot going on in our lives. I get it. I would hope that for end of life arrangements though, that whoever we entrust with those responsibilities is more dependable and considerate. I hope our story changes that.

Hearts and Halos is a veterinarian company that offers home pet euthanasia services. My husband and…read moreI decided to use them to help us put our beloved little girl, Muffin, down last month. We had the pleasure of Dr. Susan Chao come out to our home on Friday, March 20. We had a 9 am appointment (the first one of the day) and she arrived a little before. She had called me about 15 minutes prior to let me know that she would be arriving within 15 minutes. When she arrived, my husband and I greeted her and had her walk to our backyard, as this was the place I had wanted for our little girl because she loved being in the backyard to sunbathe. Dr. Chao was wonderful at guiding us through the process, explaining every step of the way and allowing us to take our time to say goodbye to Muffin. She also allowed us to give Muffin treats during the process (Muffin's last meal was a chicken nugget from Burger King and pureed chicken that Dr. Chao brought, which Muffin really did enjoy eating). Dr. Chao also did cut a piece of Muffin's fur for us to keep and placed it in a small plastic box, which she put in a small mesh bag and gave it to us as a keepsake. Muffin passed away on March 20, 9:31 am. Dr. Chao gave us some time to spend with Muffin right after and just walked towards the side of the house so that we could have privacy. Afterwards, she placed Muffin in a basket and then we walked with her towards the front of the home so that she could take Muffin with her to eventually be cremated. About two weeks later, I contacted Hearts and Halos to ask if Muffin's ashes were ready for us to pick up (please note that the company can also mail your pet's ashes to you, but we just preferred to pick it up in person). I had a hard time getting ahold of them via telephone, so I emailed the company and was able to arrange for a pickup time. I was told via email that someone was supposed to contact us that day that I had emailed them about Muffin's ashes though... This past Thursday, my husband and I went to Gardena to pick up Muffin's ashes (please note that Hearts and Halos office is now in transition to moving to Hungtinton Beach). When we arrived, an employee came out and gave us a small gift bag, that held her ashes, seeds to plant in her memory and also a small brochure regarding aftercare and additional resources for the grieving process. I do like the box that her ashes came in and also I love the small wooden heart with her name engraved on it and a small halo right above her name. The total cost for these services is $840 (you can pay via check, cash or credit card). You can also have additional items, such as an urn (which cost $60) or your pet's paw print, that will cost extra. If you do not wish to have your pet's ashes back, the cost would go down to $675, in which your pet will be part of a communal process to preserve their ashes and then will be scattered in the company's memory garden. Just as a price comparison, when we had to put down our other 2 dogs at the vet (both of our other dogs were of an emergent case and so we would not have been able to plan for their euthanasian earlier and so we would not have been able to utilize these home euthanasia services even if we had known about them at the time), at minimum, it would have cost $455 if we had made an appointment and had this service done during the day. However, both times we had to rush our dogs to the vet were during after hours and without an appointment, so the cost was around $560, which also did include their ashes. So, these home pet euthanasia services can cost an additional $100- $300 more but we felt it was worth the cost. We did not have to rush and deal with the stress and anxiety of the car ride from our home to the vet and also sit in the waiting room while they prep our dog and then say goodbye to them in the vet's office (where both of our dogs really hated going to the vet). The ability to allow Muffin to be in the comfort of her own home and to have foods that she enjoyed during the process was worth it for us. I highly recommend home pet euthanasia at home if you can afford it. I like to think that this was the much better choice for Muffin and hope that she was happy with her chicken treats right before she left us, keeping her in good spirits than to be stressed and anxious if we had chosen to bring her to the veterinarian instead. Thank you Hearts and Halos for helping us during this process.

After that, most of the communication shifted toward costs, approvals, and payments rather than clear medical updates. I understand veterinary care is expensive and estimates are necessary. However, this experience felt far more transactional, especially in moments that required compassion. I paid about $517 for basic treatment (antibiotics, patient room fees, iv fluids, vaccines, cone, and fees), but no diagnostics were completed. I was quoted $1,000+ for x-rays. Feeling overwhelmed by staffs, I ultimately left and sought care elsewhere. At another clinic, my dog received imaging, was diagnosed with a broken rib and dental injury, and received full treatment for a much more affordable price. Beyond the cost, that clinic felt far more present and personal, and the experience itself felt reassuring and grounded rather than transactional. Thankfully, he is now safe and recovering. After posting my original review, the business publicly responded and asked me to reach out directly. I did so immediately, in good faith, hoping for clarification or resolution. I never received a response. That gap between public reply and private silence is part of why I'm sharing this. That, combined with the experience in person, is what disappointed me most -- not just the visit itself, but the lack of follow-through afterward. When a business responds publicly but doesn't continue that same level of communication privately, it raises concerns about sincerity and whether the response is about resolution or reputation.

There are no words big enough to describe the weight of saying goodbye to a beloved pet, let alone two, side by side. Our Ella and Saul had been with us for nearly 17 years, since I was 24. They saw us through every chapter of life: young adulthood, marriage, parenthood, and were part of the very fabric of who we are. Their paws may have been small, but their presence filled our home, our hearts, and the spaces in between. Ella, our gentle girl, had been slowly fading under the grip of Cushing's disease and the passage of time. Saul, our steady companion, was given only months after signs of a serious tumor appeared. Faced with two failing bodies and an ocean of emotion, we made the impossibly hard decision to help them cross the rainbow bridge together, at home, in our arms, in peace. We were guided through this most sacred moment by Dr. Charlie from La Fin Veterinary, a true angel among us. From the moment he entered our home, he carried a stillness that softened the air. He didn't just come to perform a task. He came to witness, to honor, to hold space for our sorrow. He took his time, letting Ella and Saul get to know him, letting us breathe and cry and hold them close. Our young children, just 2 and 4, were with us. Dr. Charlie's kindness extended to them as well, gently and patiently allowing them to say their goodbyes both before and after. There was no rush, no pressure. Just presence. Just love. Ella and Saul left this world exactly as they deserved: at home, safe in our embrace, surrounded by the life they helped us build. They knew love until their very last breath, and that is a gift we will hold forever. La Fin's care didn't stop that day. Their booking team was warm and thoughtful from the beginning, and days later, we received a handwritten bereavement card. Each word was crafted with intention and grace. 2 weeks ago my fiancé and I had to put our 15 1/2 year old, Panda, to rest. Everything happened quite suddenly and so we found ourselves panicked and calling around for same-day availability. We ended up in the hands of La Fin, and though at the time it felt like the only option available to us, we are now so incredibly grateful that fate put us with them. Doctor Charlie arrived in the promised window and our other dog, Moses, took an immediate liking to him. He sniffed around the stretcher and Doctor Charlie's bag before giving his approval. Doctor Charlie walked us through the process, what to expect and very considerately waited for our cues before moving on to the next steps. He was a very neutral, sympathetic and calming presence that really allowed us to grieve without feeling awkward or under pressure. For that, we're eternally grateful. He never once asked "if we're ready" or nudged us along into the next steps. He waited for each wave of emotion to pass through us and waited for our nods of "okay". Once we got to Step 3, the last injection, we hugged and kissed our girl right to the end as Doctor Charlie listened with his stethoscope. After a few minutes he gave us the time and said Panda "got her wings". It was a very sweet delivery of a tough reality. He then waited for us to grieve a bit more and waited with the stretcher nearby. Only once we gave him the "okay" again did he start to transfer our girl over. He had a soft blanket that he tucked her into, keeping her head and ears out so it looked like she was just taking a nap. It ended up being such a sad but cute and sweet final image of her. We accompanied him down to his van and our little family watched them drive away. La Fin sent an email and a heartfelt card to us shortly after as well which really meant a lot. Followed by the delivery of her ashes, paw print and a poem. Only now are we resurfacing to respond and talk about it all, but we feel very lucky that for as tragic and heart-wrenching it is to say goodbye to a pet, La Fin made it as beautiful and touching an experience as it could be. We know Panda had peace, love and comfort right through to her last breath. And that is priceless. if I could rate Dr. Charlie I would do 100 stars! The best service that I had no idea was available until the day we had to say goodbye to our Cali girl, our family for the last 13 yrs. Knowing my baby went peacefully with no more pain brought so much comfort to us as we had to make one of the hardest decision of our lives. We were able to be with her and make her as comfortable as possible till the very end privately in our home especially during a very difficult time.
