This place had so much potential; until the food arrived then there's the bill. Don't get me wrong the food wasn't horrible neither was the service. My bill wasn't bad either although I was charged a $35 per person cover charge just to enter the restaurant at an all-inclusive Resort. My 2 star rating is based on the overall experience. Issue #1: Arugula & Beet salad This salad was actually quiet delicious. However, the menu implied that the salad comes with figs and pecans. My salad had neither. The only reason I ordered this salad is because there's a similar salad serviced at my wife and I's favorite restaurant Union Social in Mississauga, Canada. It always comes with figs and pecans as the menu also implies. Issue #2: Lamb tacos There was fancier name used at the restaurant to describe this item but you already know the food is fancy when they bring out 1 taco for an appetizer. Granted the server or cook (not quiet sure who he was because he wasn't our original server but he helped us the most) warmed me of the one taco dish. The quantity wasn't the problem. The problem was instead of using lamb I'm almost positive the chef used short rib. I wouldn't make this assumption if there wasn't a short rib appetizer on the menu and my lamb didn't taste like lamb. Anyone that eats lamb knows the distinct taste. Issue #3: Cover Charge Let me make a disclaimer. When I booked the reservations for this restaurant I was well aware that there was a cover charge per person. However, I did not know that this cover charge doesn't cover anything. Let me explain... Maybe I'm at fault for assuming that by me paying an additional cover charge at a restaurant at an all inclusive resort that this would perhaps cover the cost of top shelf wine or liquor, WRONG!!! It covers nothing. So I basically paid an additional $70 to dine at a somewhat fancy restaurant at an all inclusive resort. The cover charge and the Mexican Cabernet cost more then the actually food. Issue #4: Mexican Cabernet It sounds funny so I'm sticking with it but I mean no disrespect to this beautiful bottle of wine. Unfortunately I can't remember the name so I'm sticking to the "Mexican Cabernet". The wine was delicious I have complaints about the wine or sommelier well maybe his initial communication. Again maybe I'm at fault for assuming but if I've already paid a cover charge at a restaurant at an all inclusive why would I expect to pay an additional charge for a few glasses of Mexican Cab.!? Or perhaps the sommelier needs to do a better job explaining the price break down of certain wines. The guy with the liquor cart did an excellent job of informing me I was about to buy a $26 shot of tequila. In closing my experience was ruined by lack of communication and poor food preparation. I rarely write negative reviews but had to this time because two days later it is still bothering our whole group. I am giving it a three because the food was very good. The issue was we'd paid for the all inclusive meal plan. We dined at restaurants each night and had wine that was included. At Freida's the sommelier came by with a wine cart. He asked if we wanted to try any wines and recommended a red wine from South America. I tried it and asked for a glass. He NEVER said it was not included in the all inclusive meal plan and cost an extra $23 US dollars a glass. At the end of the night between all of us we had to pay $$120 for wine that we thought was included in our meal plan. None of our group heard him say there was an extra charge for the wine. In fact we brought a bottle of our own and would have been happy with our bottle. Maybe the worst part was he insisted he told us there was an extra charge, which was absolutely not true. We were all listening to him and we can afford $23 glass of wine. We were not trying to get something for free. We paid for it and do not make a fuss. But two days later we are still talking about it. I really hope this is an isolated incident. read more

This restaurant is said to be the 3rd best in Mexico. Decided to try it out on a Wednesday night. People that have the all inclusive play an extra flat rate of $30. If you don't have the all inclusive, nothing is covered. When it comes to alcohol, only the low shelf is covered with all inclusive. Anything decent is either considered premium or top shelf and has to be paid for. I'm not to into all the loopholes. Too confusing, especially when you're with a larger party and only half of them have the all inclusive. Moving on, the decor and set up is really cultural and interesting. There was a live piano player, which got too loud at times, but was mostly nice. The service was good, but everything took SO long to come out! Party of 6 and we were there for 2.5 hours! Even the dessert (which was just gelato) took about 15 minutes from time of order. The food was decent. We had the tortilla and shellfish chowder soup, which had maybe 5 spoonfuls, super small portion. Appetizers we had were short Rib ceviche (amazing), lobster tostado (too creamy, which overpowered the entire taste), Tuna tartare (bland), and the crab empanadas (dry). Bottom line: get the ceviche. As far as the entrees we got BBQ braised short rib (amazing, but small portion), panko crusted sea bass (kinda bland), fried red snapper (too salty and not the best), rib eye (good). Not to mention they ran out of sea bass when we were ordering so only 2/3 people were able to get it. Not sure how they ran out of "the catch of the day" on a Wednesday night. Overall the food was decent. The tastiest dishes consisted of beef. I really don't think the extra $30 was worth it. Especially with the whole alcohol situation. This is a very nicely appointed restaurant and dining on the outdoor balcony has a fine ambience on a warm Summer evening. Service is immaculate and the wait staff, mobile bartender and sommelier are all knowledgeable. I mention the mobile bartender as the entire bar is on wheels and brought to the table. The menu is not large but adequate for most tastes. In this most recent visit however, two of our party couldn't find anything they really wanted in the choice of entrees and decided on two appetizers instead. My soft shell crab appetizer was disappointing as it was heavily breaded and somewhat lacking in taste. The entree, a Fish Rice, also disappointed as it was just three octopus tentacles on a bed of rice in a savory sauce and the octopus was actually burned. I shouldn't criticize the food too much here as most in our party enjoyed their meals. Desserts were the star of the evening for me. Beautifully presented and delicious. Prices for food were in line with what one would expect in a 5 star restaurant but I thought wine prices were excessive. The ambience saved the night. The place is beautiful and very but the overall service level almost makes you feel like you don't deserve to be there. Starting from the hostess all the way to the server it's as if they did not want to truly service us. The extra $30 charge per person is not worth it. You'd be better off paying out of pocket and not making this part of your all inclusive plan. But that said the food is not worthy of paying out of pocket for the prices they charge my husband has a ribeye it was very fatty. It was flavorful, but it was gritty in fatty not what we would expect based on what we paid. I had the grilled shrimp, which was wonderful, was probably the best part of our meal. We ask for wine by the glass they pull the car over to us but they don't tell you is that each glass of wine is an extra charge. We had ask for the wine that was on the menu plan and they brought the card over and they never mentioned otherwise and then they tried to charge us so when we told him we were gonna pay if they did take it off the bill, but made us feel like the waiter was going to have to pay our Part. La Frida has a great reputation around the resort at Sunset Beach so we decided to try it for the $35 pp surcharge. It was totally worth it. The sommelier recommended some great wines based on our preferences, and we were happy with the bottle he picked out for us. He was a very nice, non-snooty man that had the credentials to back up his position. He humbly told us about his career in wine. One thing to note is the alcohol costs extra with the all inclusive package, which we didn't know when we ordered. It's not a big deal though. The deal only includes 1 entree and 1 appetizer pp, which we also didn't know. But again, for a good meal it's worth it. We both had the tortilla soup, which was amazing and different than the tortilla soup in Texas. Very delicious. We ordered the appetizer sampler that included pork empanadas, potato and cod dumplings, some sort of cornbread patty, plus we got a beef come wrapped in rice paper. All were very good, although the corn batter on the empanadas overpowered the pork. We both ordered steaks which were well-cooked and delicious. I had the ribeye and my wife had the strip. The reason for four stars and not five is because of the confusion around what you pay for and what you don't with the all inclusive deal. I would go to La Frida again. read more

I went for the first time to this restaurant. My reservation was for Sunday May 7th we were celebrating a big birthday. I asked 3 times to the waiter if their dish and seafood was fresh and they said yes. Both my sister in law and brother got food poison . Our reservation was at 8:30PM and by 5a they were both so sick. The entire day they spend throwing up and it was so bad I had to take them to the hospital for an IV. Today is Tuesday and they still can't get out of bed. I called the manager yesterday, the restaurant said they will call me today and nothing . I had to call back to ask they should do something for serving bad seafood. They said was not their problem. As other people ate it. This tells me that this Restuarant would never amount to nothing . I would never come back to this place . I will advice all my friends not to ever come here . I been coming to cabo for 17 years and when high scale restaurant has this type of issue , they are quick to offer any way to help, offering you to come back to make it up, they return your money , they actually treat you with care. This manager could care less about the whole thing. This is why this type of restaurant will be nothing and eventually will close their doors . When your customer service is this bad. That means they have no pride of their establishment or care for customers to come back. read more

Lafrida's is the BEST restaurant in Los Cabos! The service was wonderful, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the food was spectacular! We were warmly welcomed by the manager, Jesus, who visited us many times throughout the evening to ensure we were well taken care of. Fabiola, our server, took such great care of us during our visit and paid attention to every detail; from bringing more utensils to clearing off every crumb from our table. Her food recommendations were excellent and she was pleasant and wonderful to talk to. It was clear that she knew her menu well and has a great passion for food, flavors, and giving her guests an incredible experience. The chef, Javier Galindo, paired flavor combinations in a way that left our taste buds completely satisfied, yet wanting more. He personally appeared at our table more than once to serve us and to ensure his beautiful food creations were served with intricate care; the way they deserved to be presented. He was warm, friendly, and passionate about food pairings, flavors, and presentation. Absolutely awful customer service and communication. We spent an hour trying to get a hold of the restaurant at 1pm. They weren't answering their phone and we had to call the concierge. They set us up with a reservation for 10 people for a 60th birthday party. We weren't sure if all people were going to make it and even called back an hour later to confirm our reservation at 8pm for 10. We were running 5 minutes late because the shuttle ETA we were given was incorrect (which happened all weekend at the resort which was over booked). We called to let this restaurant know that we were running a little late. They told us that our reservation was never set and that they couldn't accommodate us for an hour and a half. The gentleman on the phone treated us like it was our fault and had awful customer service. Classless, irresponsible, and unaccommodating is the best way to describe our experience with this restaurant. Try somewhere else. read more

If you stay in Los Cabos, we highly recommend you check out La Frida and the tasting menu. You pay a little extra but it is completely worth it for such well prepared food, cooked and presented personally by the executive chef. It is an absolute 5 star experience overall and at an amazing price. We have been to other "fancy" or "high end" restaurants, paid more money, and had no where near as enjoyable an experience as we did at La Frida. They offer a wonderful Tasting Menu with 6 courses, each prepared by Chef Javier Galindo. The chef also (time allowing as the restaurant can get quite busy) tries to personally come and describe each course as it is served. In fact, we enjoyed the food so much we even went back 2nd time during our 5 day vacation there and chef prepared and presented us a completely different set of 6 courses and again, every dish was well prepared and absolutely delicious. We truly enjoyed every single course. Some of our most memorable dishes included: 1. "Stone Soup", a broth with fish and vegetables cooked before your eyes with a high temperature stone. After watching the soup boil and fish cook before our eyes, we enjoyed a very flavorful soup made with many different spices and full of umami. 2. "Duck Magre" which was duck breast with foie gras combined with sweet potato puree. Overall fabulous tasting with melt-in-your-mouth texture from the first bite. There was no gamey taste at all in the dish, just flavorful umami from both the meat and the foie gras. The sweet potato puree provided a refreshing flavor as well. 3. Grilled Octopus and Suckling Pig (not sure the exact name of this one as it was from our 2nd visit to the restaurant and not on the printed menu) which included a piece of suckling pig pork belly. The pork belly reminded us of a classic Fusion Asian Dish, or Shanghai-style Red-Braised Pork Belly but had its own unique twists and flavoring taking from traditional Mexican cuisine. The pork was placed on a bed of carrot puree and the dish was also decorated with 2 pieces of grilled octopus with the whole dish painted with squid ink which also provided an additional flavor profile. There was some avocado paste as well which provided an interesting contrast. As a whole, the dish highlighted many different textures with a slight crunchiness in the outer part of the pork combined with the tender meat and smooth layer of fat, the chewiness of octopus, the creamy avocado, and the fluffy carrot puree. Chef Galindo loves to take challenges and he truly seems to enjoy delivering his art of cooking from his heart. Our waitress both times was Fabiola who was also friendly and patient. She is great at striking up a conversation and offers you the best service. Memorable food with friendly service combined with sitting outside enjoying an amazing ocean sunset view for an incomparable experience. La Frida is beautiful, the service is impeccable, and the food is delicious. The only downside (but it's a BIG one) is the portion sizes. Now before you start thinking, "Ugh, stupid, fat Americans", hear me out. I am perfectly content, as is my boyfriend, with a side salad and a decent sized cut of protein; anywhere from 6-10 oz. But La Frida apparently does not believe in any portion sizes over 3 ounces. So if you're into tasting dinner in 3-4 bites, La Frida would be a wonderful choice for you. If you're more into eating and you know, feeling full when you're done, maybe skip this one when you're in Cabo. read more

La Frida unfortunately has really gone down hill. We came 3 years ago for a memorable special dinner, unfortunately now it is no longer special. Started off with a bad taste in our mouths unable to fulfill our request to sit outside, happens but was so hot inside was sweating. Enrique is just not good and all he cares about is upselling you cocktails and wine not included in the all inclusive with supplements. Not only did he not tell us about cocktail specials he told other tables, he did not bring us any palate cleansers or compliments of the chefs as the other tables. I guess we were not deemed worthy for not getting all his upsells. Plus he padded his checks to get a larger tip from the percentage you sign at the end i caught. When asked why two non alcoholic arnold palmers were $42 total he just said this is cabo prices. Nowhere in the world is this cabo prices, he did this and i am sure always does this adding expensive included ring ups to pad the total. Not a good server, not a good experience. Juan was great the helper. The food was hit or miss. Tuna tostada pretty good but nothing special, rack of lamb was good, frida salad was very good, veggie enchiladas just bad. Meanwhile the online menu shows a squash gnocchi they don't have (my wife is vegetarian). We were staying at another Pueblo Bonito resort, but decided to make the trip to La Frida at Sunset Beach per the recommendations of our concierge. We sat outside - which was beautiful. I would definitely recommend this. The service was outstanding. The server, bartender, manager, and chef all personally visited each table. First, the bartender came to the table to explain the higher end tequila outside of the all inclusive package. I ordered the house margarita (included), and my husband got one of the premium tequilas (2 oz for $25 USD). Very good - not sure worth $25, but when in Cabo? We were offered a steak and pepper tasting compliments of the chef as well as a wonderful warm bread basket. For our appetizers I ordered the crispy soft crab- one of the best crab preparations I have ever had! Huge portion, and it was a great mix of crispy and soft. My husband ordered a beef option on a fried tortilla with avocado (forget the name!) The short ribs were cooked to perfection for my entree and my husband (who I forgot to mention is gluten free, they were very accommodating) had the crispy gordita. This was basically a huge fried cheese ravioli with a Mexican sauce. He raved about it. We finished the meal with decaf coffee and I had the warm apple tart and my husband the tangerine tart (the pink pepper ice cream with this was the only strange part!) We stayed at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica, the sister resort. However, during a tour of Pueblo Bonito Sunset, we saw this restaurant. Be advised, this is NOT a part of the all inclusive deal, it does have a $30 surcharge. Upon arrival, we got there about fifteen minutes before our reservation. We did wait around, as the table was not ready. Upon walking in, the atmosphere was very romantic. There was a musician playing live piano and the lights were dimmed. There were also several candles. When we got sat, we were offered a wine menu, also an extra charge, and one of the waiters came around with a drink cart--also extra charge. However, we were able to order domestic drinks from the bar, included. While waiting to order appetizers, we were given three types of bread with butter, oil, and jalapeño butter (the jalapeño butter was DELICIOUS). We ordered a couple things for appetizer including the Blue Fin Tartare. The appetizers were small, but tasted great! For dinner, we chose the quail and filet mignon. The filet mignon was honestly one of THE best filets I have ever had. It was served with a cheese empanada, avocado purée, and sour cream. For dessert, we got an Apple Crisp and a Tangerine dessert with pink pepper ice cream. Much like the dinner, this was also fabulous. The food was excellent and WELL worth the $30 surcharge. If you are staying at any of the sister resorts, I would definitely recommend checking La Frieda out. read more

People... this restaurant is not good. We had a group of 6 staying at The Towers. We all love food, so paying for upgrading a meal is not a problem. But we expect the food to be good. With 6 people we ordered the majority of the menu. I don't think anyone really enjoyed what they had. It probably the bigger issue was the service. The meal took over three hours. And there were only a handful of occupied tables the night we went. Additionally, the communication on what was an additional charge was very poor. Basically any wine, cocktail, or liquor you see on a menu is an upgrade. Serve staff seemed to intentionally be upselling the whole meal. Once again, not an issue if it is good. But it wasn't. Ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. But the chairs were very uncomfortable. Or it might have just been the 3 hours I spent in one. I don't think I've ever given a 1 star review, but I was telling anyone at the resort that asked to save their time and money and eat at the other restaurants. They were great. read more

Creativity is fantastic, but if you're going to get jiggy with it you gotta bring it, and they don't. Our experience at La Frida was more about dodging undisclosed up charges rather than fine dining. Save your money and enjoy the delicious Tazuna, the variety of the Market and the excellence of Quivira Steakhouse. At these you will at least recognize what you ordered. read more

We have literally been here 2 hours, 9 minutes and we have only gotten our salad. 2 hours, 15 Minutes we get the appetizer.
