This was one of the best restaurants featured at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach (a sister resort to where we were staying)...and we had to pay an extra fee...a $70 "extra fees" for us both...a bit much, given that we were "All-Inclusive" guests. ?!? THAT annoyance aside, we actually enjoyed this luxe dining experience. This Cabo trip was partly to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary, and I forgot that I must have shared that info while booking our table (??). In any case, they were ready to help us celebrate (as you'll see in our desserts)! The place itself was gorgeously appointed...and had quite the authentic, upscaled Mexican ambiance. As the night went on, they even added a violin player! As expected, the foods were fancy. Guess I was impressed with the details...like the complimentary sorbet, sporadic linen table cleanings, and just very attentive service throughout. As for the foods, I couldn't keep up with the names of the multiple dishes we had (Sorry, but couldn't include the names of the plates this time!)...but I really liked the black Octopus appetizer. Entrees were much more generous in size than I had anticipated...and were solid. I think we loved the desserts (with customized "Happy Anniversary" messages) more than anything. It was possibly the most upscaled Mexican food we've ever had...but I can't say that I was floored with the foods. Some of it were just a bit too bland for my taste. Do not go! The restaurant itself is nice The service we had was awful. They said they were short staffed but really to forget half the tables dessert is not okay for the price you are paying. They definitely try to upsell you with specialty drinks. Be careful. Our friend had a $45 margarita made with top shelf tequila that was harsh and not smooth. You are allowed one app/soup or salad. One entree. One dessert. You cannot trade out one for another. For example if you are diabetic or just don't like sweets you cannot trade dessert and get a soup and salad. You just forgo that portion of the meal. We paid the extra $42 plus drinks. Our total was $84 with a mandatory tip of $50. The $50 was based on the value of the meal times 15%. This was NOT a $300 meal by any reach. I literally had a small bowl of soup and a very dry slice of beef Wellington. I would never pay $150 for that measly meal. Insane. read more

I have some mixed emotions here as the food itself was good, the service was good, the atmosphere was also good. La Frida is one of the several options which are not inclusive in the all inclusive food package, and while I am ok with there being these options, I was not ok with the "Drink" suggestion. Our waited asked if we wanted any drinks and both my wife and I asked for a Paloma, he asked if we would prefer to have one of their signature drinks instead and recommended the Margarita Friday. He said there was an additional charge for it, and we agreed ( I guess this is my fault to not ask what the charge would be ). When we got the bill, the charge was about 45 bucks per drink, maybe its just me but if someone says there is going to be an additional charge and its FOURTY FIVE bucks for a margarita, they should say more than "there is an additional charge". read more

This was our third time here, celebrating our 3rd anniversary where we celebrated our wedding. It was also probably the best meal we ever had here. As with much of the restaurants at Pacifica and Sunset as of November 2023 are updated; new dishes abound. For being all-inclusive PB keeps this menu fresh and creative. There is a great variety of sauces and ingredients with a focus of what is grown in Baja or their own gardens. This is quite impressive. Every experience at La Frida can start with their bar cart...drinks made tableside! If wine is preferred, they have a Wine Spectator winning list focused on wines from Mexico. The native wines are generally well made and use familiar varieties, a better bargain than anything from USA or Europe. Service is professional and timed well. Nothing comes quickly unless you want it, but there is no point to rush. Food this time was all good. It's properly prepared and served at a perfect temperature, no waiting for a plate to cool down. Each dish this time was unique and different with incredible team service on the outdoor covered patio. This is worth a visit if you are staying any of the Pueblo Bonito properties in Cabo. read more

The restaurant itself is quite lovely and once you arrive, you are greeted pleasantly; however, we have found from several visits that if you are on any type of meal plan you feel rushed and ignored for the most part. David was part of our wait team and he was amazing, the others basically did the bare minimum to get us out the door. The food is good, not always consistently good but about 70% of the time. I really wanted to like this place and had high hopes after coming here about 12 years ago and enjoying that previous experience. For the price paid I expected to be amazed but it was not to be. Our party of 8 arrived 15 minutes early for our 5:30 pm reservation, the place was completely empty and we were told to come back in 15 minutes. Ok so we all went back upstairs and got a cocktail at the bar, which ended up getting poured into plastic cups to take back downstairs at 5:30. Fine. We got seated and ordered a few of their specialty "starter" cocktails which were interesting, but that turned out to be the only good thing about our dinner experience. The sommelier brought the wine menu on an iPad and I ordered a bottle of way overpriced Pinot Grigio. I was considering ordering a red wine but the prices were completely ridiculous even with our all inclusive plan. US to peso conversion rate during our stay was approx .05 so even the cheapest bottle of white wine was around $60, and most were over $100 USD. Welcome to California 2.0 lol! So I opted to just go to the house red included in our all inclusive package. There was no air conditioning in the restaurant and it was 90 degrees outside. We asked for a fan several times but none was provided. We ordered our meals, and it took them about an hour to bring out the first course after we ordered. Again, the place was empty so I've got no idea why the first, second and 3rd courses took over 2.5 hours in total. Which might have been ok had the food been stellar, but sadly, it was quite average and the prime rib was like rubber and hard to cut. Desserts were nothing special either, which didn't come until after 8 pm. By then we were all exhausted from the heat and lack of air as the place began to get quite busy and full of people by this point. Service was exceptionally sloooowwww. Overall, for the up charge of $35 per person USD on our all inclusive plan I just don't think the overall experience was worth it. Plus if you order the lobster it was an additional $100 USD on top of that. Just ridiculous even by California standards and super unexpected in a place like Mexico which you come to hoping for more reasonable prices. And the wine list pricing, well, in comparison I suggest going to a nice restaurant in Napa instead. I won't be back. I'm dumbfounded at the pricing here for what you get. Stick with the "included" drinks instead for value if you do come here. They really take advantage of tourists here. read more

Booked a reservation here last minute on my last night in Cabo San Lucas. The restaurant is located inside the Pueblo Bonito Sunset property. Once you enter the lobby, you can take the stairs or elevators down. The ambiance is a nice mix of traditional Mexican decor combined with an elegant flair: white table cloths, dim lighting, candlelight, extravagant chandeliers, and multiple painted portraits of Frida Kahlo. I also enjoyed listening to the pianist who played romantic tunes all night long. If possible, you should request outdoor seating -- it faces the pacific coast of Cabo San Lucas. The beach provides a beautiful backdrop of crashing waves, swaying palm trees, and a gorgeous sunset. Our server, Fabiola, politely greeted us and introduced our sommelier (I don't remember his name). Both provided excellent service throughout the night. I started off with the Garden salad. It was an excellent combination of different textures and flavors. Honestly, one of the best salads I've ever had. Before our entrees, they served us with a small cup of Lychee citrus sorbet. It was light, refreshing, and delicious. For my entree, I chose the Salmon with seaweed salad and oyster sauce. Pieces of sliced citrus fruit lay evenly atop the salad. It added the perfect amount of acid and subtle sweetness to the dish. Fabiola said that the Funnel cake is popular, so I decided to order it. It's filled with eggnog cream, served with vanilla ice cream, and drizzled with warm butterscotch sauce. Esta muy rico!! From the moment we stepped off the elevator until the moment we departed, every aspect of our visit to LaFrida was outstanding. We asked for pictures after checking in with the hostess and she took at least 8 amazing pictures of my husband and me. When we arrived to our quaint table tucked away on the patio, it was not long before our waitress, the fabulous Fabiola, greeted us and explained what our all-inclusive dining experience included. Shortly thereafter, Cristian brought a basket full of the most delicious, melt-in-your-mouth breads I have ever had the pleasure of eating and I consider myself a carb-connoisseur! The dipping sauces that accompanied it were also amazing! My husband ordered the house cab and I got a lemon drop martini. Again, both were outstanding drinks. We also were poured still and sparkling water. Our appetizers were magnificent! We shared the blue-fin and barbacoa. The portions were perfectly sized and we even left some behind (sadly) in order to save room for dinner and dessert. Dinner...oh my! I ordered the confit and roasted suckling pig which was so good it should be a sin! My husband indulged in his dish of Totoaba fish confit. Portions were generous and the temperature and flavors were perfect. Again, we could not finish the meal in its entirety. Finally, the dessert. Although I was planning on ordering something different, I went with Fabiola's recommendation of the churros since she had yet to steer us wrong. I was not disappointed! Crispy exterior and soft interior...a perfect balance! My husband got the ganache which was rich and delectable! Even the blueberries were better than any I had ever had before. We were celebrating our anniversary and "Happy Anniversary" was written along the edge in chocolate on both desserts. While there, we were treated to entertainment as well. The table next to us ordered Mexican coffees...I recommend it because it was captivating and humorous. Fabiola's expertise with mixed and lighting things on fire was insane! She also wove in her amazing wit and punctuated it with her warm and beautiful smile. We also were serenaded by the music of the melodica and he even knew my husband's father's favorite, Spanish Eyes. Fabiola also took the time to talk with us, answer our questions and share amazing stories of travel. She has mastered the art of giving us our personal time while also being attentive and engaging. Very smooth with caramel undertones. From there we had the Chef's special. If you have food allergies or dislikes, they will gladly accommodate. Both the presentation and service were impeccable. The breads were homemade and served with fresh whipped butter, pepper butter and olive oil. Each of our five courses were cleansed with a different sorbet. Well deserved stars in my opinion, the staff has definitely been trained for five star service. I truly think this restaurant is one of my favorites ever. The food menu and amuse were all original, beautiful In presentation, and a pleasure on the pallet. The staff was so gracious and took care of everyones needs at the table, they entertained and educated us on their offerings. The only reason I didn't put the fifth star is because there were a couple of imperfections that had to do with temperature of meat. Causing delay in service. Very rarely do I award 5 stars but this place is truly the exceptional on every level including service, presentation, food selection, dietary needs and ambiance. No detail was overlooked by any of the staff. Hostess: great attention to detail from specially accommodating guests with a short in the event that a gentleman didn't have the proper attire. Keep in mind that kids need to be 16 and older to dine and guys need to have a polo or button down shirt. No shorts. The preference is f r shoes but if you have nice clean sneakers, an exception can be made especially in my case. Ambiance -the staff was very cordial and accommodating as in any high end restaurant. Seating is available inside or outside. Food Now this is where the experience is over the top. The selection is amazing and being this close to the ocean, it would be a sin not to at least try a seafood dish. You May be asked if you would be inter Fred in a 5 course selection that is not on the menu. If so, go for it. It's a meal that is based on recipes dating from prior to the Spanish arrival made with ingredients and methods inspired from that tome period. The chef comes to your table and explains every single dish providing not only the back story on the preparation but the ingredients as well. Take for example a seafood dish made with shrimp and heated with lava rocks that he replicates at your table in show that is truly memorable. Wine Try a selection of wines from notable wineries in Northern Baja with a grape variety called Nebranillo, a unique blend of Nebbiolo and Tempranillo grapes. Nice way to pair your seafood or steak. I've posted pictures of my 5 course meal along with selection of a filet of steak and for vegans, a risotto that was truly delicious. Presentation Service was top notch from the preparation of the Frida Margarita (the best I've had) to the after dinner drink, "Café Mexicano" which a fiery presentation like no other! Christian at the concierge recommend us to make a reservation and check out La frida since the steakhouse was booked up. Excellante! Very authentic Mexican food paired with a local wine called Doh Bruhos. A taste of sweetness and dry on the palette, something I have never tasted in the States. It is grown in Mexico on only 4 acres. Quite the luxurious boutique winery, I highly recommend the cookie, vanilla ice cream and homemade caramel and chocolate chips. I was reading some of the posts that rated this place a 3 star or less, so let's try to re-assure some of the "issues" people had. Pricing: if you came here with an "all-inclusive" package, you pay $30 per person as an entrance fee here. It's better quality food and is worth the $30 for eating as much as you'd like. - alcohol price: when you check in, they let you know which alcohol is free with the all inclusive package, so why complain about this restaurant charging for alcohol that is not on that list? Did you really assume that the top shelf alcohol was going to be free? Service: yes it may be slower, but enjoy the ambiance, especially when you see the sun setting. This restaurant is highly rated and our party of 8 was excited to try out a new adventure as this would be a first for everyone. Sadly the restaurant did not live up to the hype. Our waiter bordered on condescending throughout the evening and the service was slow with us having to flag staff down for forgotten items, a drink refill, etc. The wine list is nothing exceptional and extremely overpriced. Our food was marginally okay but certainly not at a level consistent with the glowing reviews we had seen. I personally ordered a Squash Blossom soup which I ended up sending back. The taste made it totally inedible. Others reported tough steaks. Even the dessert was dry and lacked flavor. There are too many restaurants in Cabo that are truly amazing. The frida salad was my favorite. Our main course took a little longer than usual. We did up only paying for the chef special. Spent about like $60 including the drinks. La Frida was a great way to start our vacation in Cabo. In my wife's and my opinion, the tasting menu with wine pairings from Master Sommelier Antonio Palacios is the way to go. If it wasn't for Señor Palacios, I would rate La Frida 3 stars. The rest of the menu was too touristy and didn't give us the feel of being in Mexico, but the tasting menu and brilliant Mexican wine pairings elevated our dinner experience. I wish the chef would extend the Mexican menu items to include more authentic, regional menu items rather than cater to American-ized dishes. Other than that, great ambiance -- especially if sitting outside on a beautiful evening. This place had so much potential; until the food arrived then there's the bill. Don't get me wrong the food wasn't horrible neither was the service. My bill wasn't bad either although I was charged a $35 per person cover charge just to enter the restaurant at an all-inclusive Resort. My 2 star rating is based on the overall experience. Issue #1: Arugula & Beet salad This salad was actually quiet delicious. However, the menu implied that the salad comes with figs and pecans. My salad had neither. The only reason I ordered this salad is because there's a similar salad serviced at my wife and I's favorite restaurant Union Social in Mississauga, Canada. It always comes with figs and pecans as the menu also implies. Issue #2: Lamb tacos There was fancier name used at the restaurant to describe this item but you already know the food is fancy when they bring out 1 taco for an appetizer. Granted the server or cook (not quiet sure who he was because he wasn't our original server but he helped us the most) warmed me of the one taco dish. The quantity wasn't the problem. The problem was instead of using lamb I'm almost positive the chef used short rib. I wouldn't make this assumption if there wasn't a short rib appetizer on the menu and my lamb didn't taste like lamb. Anyone that eats lamb knows the distinct taste. Issue #3: Cover Charge Let me make a disclaimer. When I booked the reservations for this restaurant I was well aware that there was a cover charge per person. However, I did not know that this cover charge doesn't cover anything. Let me explain... Maybe I'm at fault for assuming that by me paying an additional cover charge at a restaurant at an all inclusive resort that this would perhaps cover the cost of top shelf wine or liquor, WRONG!!! It covers nothing. So I basically paid an additional $70 to dine at a somewhat fancy restaurant at an all inclusive resort. The cover charge and the Mexican Cabernet cost more then the actually food. Issue #4: Mexican Cabernet It sounds funny so I'm sticking with it but I mean no disrespect to this beautiful bottle of wine. Unfortunately I can't remember the name so I'm sticking to the "Mexican Cabernet". The wine was delicious I have complaints about the wine or sommelier well maybe his initial communication. Again maybe I'm at fault for assuming but if I've already paid a cover charge at a restaurant at an all inclusive why would I expect to pay an additional charge for a few glasses of Mexican Cab.!? Or perhaps the sommelier needs to do a better job explaining the price break down of certain wines. The guy with the liquor cart did an excellent job of informing me I was about to buy a $26 shot of tequila. In closing my experience was ruined by lack of communication and poor food preparation. There is no rational reason way the cover charge(*2), and 6 glasses of Mexican Cabernet cost more then my actually food. 3 appetizer and 2 entree read more
