There are better places in the area for getting that fiesta fix, like Dos across the parking lot. And Dos isn't all I expected but their horchata made dreams come true! My favorite is just a few short miles called El Torito where the consistency and quality is top notch. It is weird how seemingly all Mexican restaurants have evolved from the budget family filler feast friends into expensive bean and rice barns. I don't get it. I'd rather throw the cheap ingredients into a pan myself for way cheaper but when the mood calls I'm all for El Torito since La Hacienda has fallen from glory. This was the established Triple XXX of Mex cuisine, used to make it a good time each time but recently, due to friends getting food poisoning, seeing a drop off in service and well made food, then realizing much better options do it all better everytime, I'm not able to say La Ha anymore. read more

I was excited to try this restaurant after a friend suggested it because I was visiting. I should've read the reviews first before coming. TLDR: STAY AWAY. Find another restaurant. Anything but here will be a better experience, since La Hacienda El Sol is very unwelcoming. Echoing a previous review, the chips were indeed very stale, the salsa was meh, and the bean burrito combo that was ordered was barely edible. The beans were hard and barely warm. My friend finished one of three burritos like a trooper because he was hungry, but I couldn't stomach more than half a bite. I ordered a simple chicken tamale, and it was extremely dry and tasteless. Beyond the food, I was patient with the server since English wasn't his best language. Having learned other languages, I can understand what a struggle that can be. However, our server had three other friends come along, and they didn't order anything. Instead, they came to loiter in another segment of the restaurant and proceeded to not only stare at me but direct racial comments at me. I brushed it off, but they later mocked both of us in Spanish. I felt extremely uncomfortable after a few more stares and unwelcome comments and asked for the meal to be to-go. His friends translated for the server, and then all three proceeded to leave as if our presence was their only reason to stay. Unbelievable experience during my first day visiting Purdue University. All in all, one of the WORST experiences I've ever had at a restaurant, and I highly recommend staying away. Terrible food, worse atmosphere, and unprofessional staff behavior. P.S. I'm going to preface this with me being picky about my Mexican food. I thought this food was fantastic! I didn't take a picture of my plate before I tasted the rice, and I smashed it because it was so tasty. Oops very traditional Mexican restaurant style inside with colorful tables and chairs. Lots of TVs so it could be a good place for game day when they offer a 100oz margarita tower! I didn't get one this time, so I'll have to go back for that. When I'm in the mood for Mexican food this place definitely does the job, however, the service has been somewhat consistently terrible if you're not a large party. One night my friend and I came in as a party of 2, and our server basically kept forgetting we existed. We waited forever to get our bill, and I had to ask 3 times for a to go container since our server forgot twice, and I had to flag someone else down. The benefit of coming here though is that the food prices are good, and the all you can eat specials are great value too! However, the margaritas are quite overpriced and you won't find out about that until your bill comes. I'd recommend sticking to takeout, or if you do come don't get alcohol. read more

We visited the Frank Lloyd Wright house, Samara, in Lafayette. Looking for lunch. We were disappointed in this restaurant. The chips were stale, granted they are gratis, but still stale. Salsa was okay, not great. I ordered the vegetarian plate with cheese enchilada, bean burrito and a tostada with guacamole. The guacamole was very good, but tostada shell also stale. Bean burrito was gummy inside and really couldn't eat it. My modelo negra was delicious. this place needs upgrades. Seats in the booth were all torn and uncomfortable with wearing a skirt. Good food, generous portions and quick and convenient service. Mexican restaurants all tend to have the same menu, so it is refreshing that La Hacienda has a variety of non-tropical dishes, beyond burritos and chimichangas. They have a wide variety of fajitas. We had the Hawaiian fajita and the fajita Del Mar. both were very good as the Del Mar had a lot of seafood in it! I could have used a bit more spice, but overall, very good. The chips are thin and crisp and the salsa is just chunky enough to nicely cover the chip. (Chips are, after all, just vehicles for eating good salsa!). I like that their salsa has cilantro in it. We have had a variety of different tacos here, as well as the seafood enchiladas. We always come away full and satisfied. It's a great addition to the levee. read more

If I could rate zero stars, I would. The service was horrible. Every time I go, I get the same server (Letty) who never does a great job. I had friends who visited the country who asked her for recommendations and she shrugged and didn't answer our questions. I ordered for my friends and every time I asked for a certain item on the menu, Letty would say it wasn't available when I would see the several tables beside me get what I wanted to order (Even after ordering). When she was picking up food from the table, she knocked one of my friends phone off the table, shattering it. Then she didn't return to the table for an hour. We had to flag her down several times to pay and when we were paying, she was hovering over us to make sure we gave her a 20%+ tip. I would have tipped her less for the service she offered, but I had to pay her what was written in the device considering she was hovering over us. I just felt bad giving her $0 tip, so I tipped her more than what she deserved. In conclusion, I am used to very bad service. But this was bad HOSTILE service. Went in on a saturday night at about 8pm to get some carryout. They had a karaoke night going, and a few families were in there there enjoying the karaoke. The server told me that 9pm would bring in a much younger crowd and that any type of karaoke is available. Getting that late a dinner would probably be too loud for my taste. They have a few parking spots available outside. The Decor was simple but the place was clean. They had one of those wall mounted fireplaces and an aquarium too. Since it was karaoke night, they had the lights dimmed down and party/disco lights going(see picture). The server was very friendly to talk to and gave me recommendations on their food. He recommended the taco sampler (see pic) which is originally listed under appetizers. According to him, they are known for their cheap, tasty, authentic tacos. You get 7 tacos and that was a good price for $8.95. Service took about 20 minutes, but the karaoke kept me pretty entertained. The server also gave me a rundown of the place and told me that they love to host bigger groups and that they have a lunch buffet special. They are willing to accommodate the requests of larger groups in case that information might be of some use to you. Once I got the food, put it in my car and started heading home, the 2 looooong minutes of driving was pure torture. The food smelled amazing! I could wait to get my hands on those tacos. Really! When I opened up the box, the dinner was all I thought it would be and more. They had some mild and spicy sauces on the side, and I really liked the spicy sauce. The tacos were really good. Can't believe I'd never been here before in spite of this place being so close. I definitely liked everything about this restaurant and will be back. To top off please note this place is not cheap. Originally picked it because there is a place in Indy where 2 can eat for $20 or less. That is not the case here, but I promise it is more than worth the money. Pepees has always been my favorite Mexican restaurant. Untill now. The entire kitchen staff is clearly on top of their game. So good! We stopped here for an early dinner this evening and were extremely impressed. Because we were there early, we received fast service! The waitresses were super sweet and made the experience even that much more delightful. They have a large menu with a ton of seafood options-which I'm always a fan of! Their chips and salsa were tasty and their guacamole was even better! It was more "peppery" than I've had at other places, but I actually really enjoyed the flavor. They are known for their tacos and they did not disappoint. My husband tried their Mexican style chicken, marinated pork, and chorizo/steak tacos with the green & red sauce. He thought the chicken were best, but was super impressed. They are small--so you can eat 4 - 6 if super hungry! I tried the shrimp fajitas and loved the sauce they used with the grilled veggies. My only "issue" is that the shrimp still had their tails, which can make it a bit messy. They have a nice kids menu & their cheese quesadilla was a generous portion. The decor was cute, they offer a taco buffet on weekdays for lunch (that we NEED to check out), and they had an actual changing table...like the ones in homes, which I very much appreciated. Honestly 0 stars if I could. Horrible service that definitely needs to be reevaluated by management. My friends and I wanted some more chips because we had just gotten queso and barely had any chips left from the basket that they initially served us once we sat down. This server/host was extremely rude to me when I asked if our table can have more chips and if they had any more available since it was 30 minutes till they're close. I spoke with three different waitstaff about it; 20 minutes later, they FINALLY bring them out. Of course by that time, my lunch hour is almost over! When I went to pay for the check, I did get a "sorry about the taco shells" response, but no offer to reduce or compliment the meal.
