This is my Mom's favorite Mexican restaurant. We've been to Dos Amigos plenty of times, often without the college kids on campus. Tonight, the place was packed but that didn't hinder the service from the staff. While we weren't ordering margaritas, shots or mixed drinks, we felt like part of the party. The place was hoppin'! Our server was very friendly, explained the details of the menu and made sure our drinks were always filled. And the chips and salsa seemed to appear out of no where. I had 3 different types of tacos, rice and beans. My mom had an enchilada and her husband had a huge quesadilla. Often, a restaurant can serve way too much food and you'll overeat. This was the perfect amount of food. From the atmosphere to the food and to the attention of the staff, Dos Amigos gets 5 stars. read more

Stay far away from Dos Amigos if you are planning an event. I had set everything up with their manager Megan who was so unprofessional and impossible to reach which should have been a red flag from the beginning. They unapologetically canceled our arrangement with their food truck 3 days before our wedding and said they could offer a discount ($300 ) for us to pick up. They then sent an estimate that was $1,500 higher than our originally agreed upon price which was for them to deliver. When we were done eating I asked two different staff members for our waiter so we could pay and get to go containers. We watched as he was told we had asked for him. He then continued to clean 3 tables and other staff members brought us out to go containers. We finally got up to leave because we had tickets to a show at Elliott Hall, then he came up to us and tried to say they were busy so that's why he didn't get to our table. Very colorful inside. Love the decor. Both times I dined in, we were promptly seated and served. Both servers were very kind and attentive. The 1st visit was a wet burrito: plain and simple. Simply delicious. Loved the seasoning. Very flavorful. It definitely was wet with cheese so I approve. The 2nd visit was a chimichanga with rice and beans. This was tasty as well. Nice crisp outside and flavorful inside. The refried beans were different than most places, but in a good way. They had sort of a smokey flavor to them. Good restaurants like this aren't for pretentious people that expect things like fancy plating. It's just really good food. If you need fancy, get away from this city. Great service! The taco sampler plates were incredible! Our server, Alfredo, was spectacular!

Took us 45 min to get served water. Told they were not serving margarita pitchers and we could only order cups. We weren't told all the cup sizes and only figured out our options mid way through ordering . The drink menu was poorly listed. What should've been an hour in and out turned into 2 1/2 hours of dining in. When asked about a sugar/salt rim we weren't understood and only one was blended when we asked for them all. We didn't get chips and salsa refilled and ordered guacamole, which started to brown by the time we finally got our waiter to ask for more chips. Slow slow service. The food is great! The Mexican style tacos are authentic and taste similar to tacos I would get in Mexico. Everyday during the week they have an all you can eat special with Tuesday being tacos. Service is good and the waiters and waitresses are patient. If you would like to practice your Spanish you can ask them to speak in Spanish and they can help you with that. The inside is also very colorful. All in all, good prices, nice place, and good service. They're open till 2am on the weekend so that's a plus too! read more

Stopped in after a soccer game with the whole team. Ordered 3 pulled chicken and 2 "pulled beef enchiladas". The 3 chicken enchiladas were amazing. But instead of pulled beef enchiladas they gave me the nastiest most over seasoned ground beef enchiladas I've ever had. I took two bites and did not continue eating. Called over the sever and he says "yea they're ground beef". I told him "the menu says pulled beef" and he reaffirms that "it Is ground beef". And I said "but it's not supposed to be". So at that point we're staring at each other awkwardly and he moves on. What I mean to say is . if I was the server or owner and saw that happen I would at least swap out the enchiladas for a different kind or some refund. But no, no attempt. Ambiance is there all the way, but my meal was not good tasting. I miss La Hacienda, mainly because we enjoyed the carne asada fries, which not many places around Lafayette offer (if any. I just tried them at Dos Amigos, the establishment that LaHa moved to, and it was terrible. No cheese, and honestly...steak tasted like it was ran through the dishwasher. Would not recommend. The Horchata was okay though! Lots of parking in this plaza in the daytime, but good luck finding a spot at night! Edit: and they charged us $40 for our meal that we barely could stomach... If the horchatta wasn't the most amazing stuff I've ever had comparable to the liquid luck I sipped in Magdaleña seven years ago, I'd be ranting like a wild buffoon about the insanely overpriced and low quality ingredients, vomit appeal presentation of entrees, and the backwards treatment and lack of communication or attention to detail. But as it is, I will definitely be trying again to see if anything can be salvaged. As you can see in the photos and from others reviewing Dos, the food appearance leaves everything to be desired, especially at this price point. Tacos, burritos, and my chorizo plate present as a three year old's first try painting. I can't believe I spent twenty bucks before tip. I got a mushy chunky puddle of beef and white cheese. The complementary chips and salsa were tasty and easy to eat, combined with the aforementioned incredible horchatta and my friend's rave reviews, kept me somewhat sane. They told me repeatedly how good it is here, coming multiple times over the weekend. I suppose some items just hit right for some? I'm tempted to do more research because this hidden strip mall spot twinned with Buffalo Wild Wings and the trashy Neon Cactus is a full on magnificently decorated Mexican canteen. The atmosphere is rich and accommodating to large groups and easily fits a host unlike my favorite area southern grub station, El Nopal which is a tiny shack but infinity more authentic and flavor forward. Anyone looking for proper Hispanic fare needs to start at El Nopal for sure. Us five amigos dropped in her past Monday for lunch. I first assumed by the lack of English comprehension and huge menu that this would be a match for the best. The staff didn't really notice us after we ordered which would've been fine for a relaxed dinner event. They didn't seem to understand English either which turned out poor. I ordered the lynch breakfast chorizo special but I guess neither of us can communicate well since the full dinner chorizo and beef tray appeared. The others were happy with their meals but can't say anything is unique or crafted with care, again, a surprisingly bold strategy for the prices. I honestly wouldn't even give this one star! Our food came out like less than 5 mins after we ordered it which was already suspicious, and it was sooo cold! I had cheese enchiladas and the cheese inside wasn't even melted. The tortillas didn't even seem cooked, it was like they took tortillas put cheese in them, heated them up for not long enough to melt the cheese then dumped verde sauce (also cold, also tasted gross) on top. My kid got the nachos off the kids menu, it looked like wet cat food on top of nachos with a little watery queso on top. It was just not good and I'm not a picky eater at all. If you want good Mexican food I recommend senor tacos, taco Rico or el rodeo but save your money and do not go here. *also super expensive. Located in the previous location Poblano's occupied, this restaurant is Poblano's in all but its name it seems like. And let me be clear that is not a bad thing. Dos Amigos seemed to pop up overnight, and we decided to try it out this week. The interior is relatively unchanged, sporting the same colorful decor as before. I had the pollo loco tapatio, consisting of chicken, cheese, mushroom, and bacon served with rice, sour cream, guacamole and tortillas. This is your standard Mexican fare. Portions were a good size, the tortillas were warm, and it was all good. The prices were reasonable - I paid about $13 for this dish. We also shared a mango frozen margarita pitcher, and it was somewhat strong with a nice flavor. I prefer strong margaritas, but it was fine! Our waiter was very attentive, and we received everything we ordered in good time. Overall, I will definitely return here! read more

Based on my experience tonight, it's probably a better place to get Covid than quality Mexican/TexMex food. I ordered pickup. The seating area was full of maskless undergrads. The staff at the cash register and behind the bar weren't wearing masks properly, which almost made me cancel my order. There was no separate area to wait for pickup, nor enough space to distance myself from the maskless people around me. The burritos I got are only "okay". The chimichanga is not crunchy on the exterior as one should expect. And the steak in the Burrito California is tough and the rice is bland. Portions are generous, so if you value quantity over quality this may be a good bet. Also, maybe it's just me, but I never got a text confirming my food was ready for pickup, which would have been more convenient. read more

No one finished their meals because of the lack luster food and 3/4 of us did not get what we ordered anyways . We were all so hungry, we at least want to try, but no dice. We used to love this restaurant... until we got food poisoning. We ordered dinner for pickup and when we got home the food was ice cold. We also began experiencing serious stomach issues about 30 minutes after and called to let them know that something was wrong with our food. We wanted to let them know in case the food was being served to others but were quickly told that we shouldn't worry because everything was "fresh" and then they hung up without an apology or any other conversation. The man did not believe us or validate our concerns regarding the food that was prepared in the restaurant. Might be the worst Mexican food I've ever had. I ordered burrito, came out lukewarm. Kids quesadilla was burnt. Margarita was not flavorful, sour mix was very watered down. I went here for the first time the other day, and I had an...ok experience. But, I thought I should put this here at the top, based on other reviewer's notes: keep in mind that it is quite possible that an average or passable experience might not be guaranteed. I say this because this restaurant opened in the same location as the now-closed Poblanos, also a Mexican eatery, with similar decoration (Poblanos was darker and atmospherically more classy, as I remember it, though). I do not know if the management or the staff is different - but, assuming some of the staff, especially the cooks, were inherited from Poblanos, then it is very likely that the food eres on the side of inconsistent. As it was, the food I received was adequate -- I ordered one of the chicken chimichangas and a non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri. The food came very fast, but because it was a Thursday night -- mostly dead inside. The portion sizes were ok, at best -- the chimichanga itself erred more on the side of small, but it came with a fair portion of refried beans, rice, salad, guac, and sour cream to pad out the meal. It was tasty, but certainly not worth the price point -- you can get a much larger chimichanga or burrito for the same price at other places, and it is often better. I need to note as well that the chicken in the chimichanga was dry, which was one of the bad inheritances from the Poblanos era, dried out meat, in the worst cases to the point of inedible. That seems to suggest that they pre-cook most of their taco/burrito/chimichanga-stuffing meat and let it sit in a bin most of the day, for it to get so dry, rather than cooking to order. No complaints on the strawberry daiquiri, other than it is probably on the small side as well for the price point. They evidently have all you can eat tacos on Tuesday (the all-American "Taco Tuesday"), so that is probably a great deal, given this place is a cut above Taco Bell, Chipotle, Qdoba, and the other fast-food Mexican places. That might be one of the main ways they stay afloat, though, as their other options are overpriced and not exactly worth going out of your way for when there are better options for Mexican cuisine elsewhere. Edit: Downgraded from 3 to 1 stars once I found out they serve microwave, frozen product, of which the chimichanga is one. read more

I had a horrible experience at this restaurant. When I called in my order I was initially told it would be ready in 10 min. I arrived at Dos Amigos around 20 min later and the food was not even close to ready. About 15 min later, (25 min after I was told my food would be ready) I received my order. After getting to the car, I noticed one of the meals was missing. I went back inside and was told it would be ready momentarily. I finally got my entire order about 40 min late. Skip to 12 hours later and 3 out of the 5 people in my party all had awful food poisoning that I will not describe. I will never be returning! read more

I had tried the chicken fajita taco salad and had it delivered around lunch time when I would think things would be fresh. I wont be ordering from here again, my taco salad was soggy and gross, the sauteed veggies were like burnt charcoal in with the soggy mess. The chicken was definitely more than a day old. Not moist or tender but dry and over cooked. I had bought chips and tried to revive it by cutting the chicken into smaller bites and using a spoon to scoop them onto a chip, still wasnt salvageable... least the chips and queso dip was good! read more
