We were here after a long day and desperately needed food. The staff was very attentive and prompt. Everything came out like clock work without any extra effort on our part, as it should be. The food was phenomenal and very filling. They made every accommodation to my food allergies without any problems and I was grateful. We had drinks and fajitas for ~under $20 each. Even the left over were fantastic re-warmed. From the staff who sat us, to our drink orders and chips, to even the waiter who fed us it was all seamless. The waiter checked back several times to be sure we had everything and my water was never empty. Truly stand up service. A definite must. I must say that I have eaten a LOT of Mexican food in my day. Just take a look at my profile picture... I'm not Jenny from the block by any means. But, for all the Mexican food I've eaten, I'd have to say that La Hacienda Real takes the number one spot for me, by a landslide. For a long time, Salem didn't really have a good "home-made flour tortilla" culture, but with the success of La Hacienda Real (now with 3 different Salem locations), many other Mexican restaurants have starting following suit. Without fail, I always get the fajitas. And though I order them pretty much every visit, they never seem to get old. I could eat them all the time. Their perfect blend of spices and seasonings on their meat are very flavorful. Mixing that with their fresh home-made tortillas makes them stand out, easily, as number one. Although I mainly stick with one specific dish, La Hacienda Real has so many wonderful options to choose from. I'm sure that every dish is just as good as the next. I was going to order La Hacienda through a food delivery app, but it was taking over 20 min to find a driver available. Plus, with the app there were several additional fees added, but we were so hungry we decided to attempt calling the actual restaurant and picking up the food. Their lines were busy but we were told it would be pretty quick before we could get our order. When we got there they had accidentally given our order to someone else. While we usually would be pretty upset, the way they handled it was very professional, earning them this five star review. They remade our food quickly, were very helpful and apologetic, and even gave us a gift card to make up for it. Plus, the food was still hot once we got home, and extremely tasty! It was also way cheaper ordering straight from them versus a delivery app, so I highly recommend going that route. You get a lot of food for what you pay straight through them. read more

The real deal as far as Mexican goes in this city, and I have eaten plenty of Mexican food in my lifetime. This place is by far my first and sometimes only choice when it comes to Mexican food. In this town of large, primarily fast-food chains, it's nice to have something local and fresh. Keizer doesn't have many dine-in spots so when this place showed up it was a great gift for the city. The menu is massive, the food is delicious, and the service is always very welcoming, quick and nice. The prices are reasonable for the quality of food on the menu, and you can usually find coupons in the Salem/Keizer newspapers. The food is all made from scratch, their most popular dish being the chicken fajitas, which is probably the most flavorful meal you can get. Before you can even smell or see it, you can hear it come from the kitchen, practically shouting it's headed your direction. When you sit down, you get a basket of hot chips, good salsa and what I guess people are calling "pico de gallo", which is just a plate of tangy cabbage and re-fried bean dip. Don't get me wrong, it's good though! Well, I like it at least. :) I often stop by and get an order of pico de gallo, chips and tortillas just so I can have some for home! My mom, sister, and me came here today for my mom's 60th birthday. My mother ordered the chicken nachos a la hacienda, my sister ordered the grande combo with shredded beef chimichanga, chalupa, and tostada. I ordered the grande combo with a tamale, chalupa, and quesadilla. Plus we all had the cheese crispy and horchatas to drink. First of all, their menu is seriously MASSIVE. It's great to have many options and varieties but there just has to be a limit. It took us almost forty-five minutes to go through everything and decide what we wanted. The food took about average time to prepare and make its way out to us in the (admittedly cute) lobby area. The cheese crispy was exactly like what the description stated: a deep-fried tortilla with a ton of melted cheddar cheese on top. It was about the size of an average dinner plate and cut into about ten pieces like a pizza. The first couple of pieces were great since I'm a cheese lover, but the grease that came from all the cheese just became too heavy and I nearly lost my appetite for the rest of my lunch. Thankfully I had my deliciously sweet horchata to cut through that grease. After the crispy came the tamale. It was actually pretty good. I ordered the black beans and rice with it and they were good as well. Next came the chalupa. It wasn't like most chalupa's I've had before, as the outer shell is usually more bready than this. It didn't quite hold up to the moisture from the chicken and lettuce and inevitably grew soggy. I didn't really mind it too much but my sister couldn't finish hers. Last was the quesadilla. Honestly, I took one bite and just couldn't do it. The meal was so loaded with grease that by the time I'd reached this item I was completely void of any appetite. Perhaps it might have been okay on its own, but I've had better to be honest. I came away from the meal feeling full but so heavy from the amount of grease that I felt physically ill. I'm not even the kind of person who is necessarily opposed to grease. But at these magnitudes, it's just plain disgusting. I really don't understand all the hyped up reviews it has gotten on here. It's better than the likes of Aiberto's and Muchas Gracias but not quite as good as El Grullense or the Don Pedro's over on Lancaster (both of which have MUCH better flour tortillas, by the way). I live with a Mexican so when I pay money for Mexican food it's because I want something better than I can get from home. This was not the case at La Hacienda and I don't think we will be eating here again. read more

I had gone to the La Hacienda Real a couple of times before my last visit. I went with my son who asked for three chicken tacos and I got a salad. The price of the idems on the menu was not the same as what I was charged... OMG was I in shock when the check came. The three tacos for my son were $12.95 and my salad was $12.20. They said that the tacos were that price because they came with rice and beans.....PLEASE! and my salad was so much more because I wanted guacamole and sour cream instead of dressing... mind you it was a Tablespoon of each and I was NEVER told that it would be more to get that change! The only thing my family and I liked were the refried beans. My husband and I ordered the enchiladas suizas. I didn't want it after 2 bites. The sauce was not suiza style. Tasted like green enchilada sauce straight out of the can. The rice had a taste of being overcooked. The children's hamburger and fries is only a bun with ground beef patty. When we asked if they can add lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese they returned it with tomatoes and lettuce only. Waitress response was about the additional charge like assuming that we requested it for free. (which we dont mind just wanted a hamburger with additional sides so my child can enjoy her burger). Well the atmosphere is great but everything else was bad. We went here for a friends birthday, when we got to order the waitress did not know her menu at all. I order a plate and she brought me something else, I told her that wasn't what I order and she want back to the kitchen.. Came back a minute later with the same food except she took of some mango.... C'mon are you kidding me??? I sent her back and told her to gets something else. When my tostadas de Camaron came to the table (40 minutes after everyone had gotten their food) the shrimp still had the shell on! When I went up from to pay, I asked the lady who the manger was. She just asked why? And I said I would like to talk to him or her. She said the manager was our waitress.. My personal favorite Mexican restaurant in Salem. I've only visited the Keizer location and have never had a negative experience here. Prices are reasonable (and you can usually find coupons in the paper, etc.), especially for the amount of food you receive. Food is served on platters...not plates, and is easily enough food for 2-3 meals. A nice ambiance makes this a great place to go with friends and share some margarita pitchers. I've eaten there twice in the last two weeks, most recently I've had the carne asada. The service was good and the speed in which my order was ready was amazing. I just started eating the nachos when our entrees came. Portions are of good size and i like the flour tortillas. Decor is Mexican inspired which is nice compared to some cookie cutter restaurants. La Hacienda Real is my definitive restaurant for Mexican cuisine. I've been here several times with my siblings and each time has been equally enjoyable. We've spanned the various dishes on the menu; diving into the seafood, enjoying the simplicity of burritos and enchiladas and even sopes. Every time the food has been fresh, hot, flavorful and awesomely filling. You really can't go wrong with their GIANT menu. Service has always been friendly. At one time the waiters and waitresses dressed more authentic, but I guess over time the dress code was released. No biggie. The only real gripe I have is the wait time for food and service. Every time I've been here whether it was lunch or dinner the place has always been packed. I'm not going to dock points for waiting time, because a popular *small* place is always a good place to eat. Just as Kathy mentioned in her review, the pico de gallo and bean dip provided when you order is awesome. Unlimited refills, but be VERY careful you don't fill up on that deliciousness, as the portions of the main dishes are a bit generous and delicious in its own right. The tortillas are I *think* made in house and are the best tortillas I've ever had. The ambiance and decor isn't necessarily something to write home about as there are many horses and horse heads painted throughout. It's not the prettiest or swankiest place you'll see and it's definitely not a place where there is a lot of charm in it's decor. La Ha (as we affectionately call it), is my all time favorite Mexican restaurant! The food is fresh and delicious, the service is always fast and friendly, and the ambiance & decor are perfect. I always order the shredded beef chimichanga, and a side of flour tortillas which are amazing on their own! Their soft drinks are also perfect, I'm very picky about my Pepsi and some restaurants don't have the correct ratio of syrup to carbonated water in their machines.
