This restaurant has gotten good reviews tried it about a year ago and I wasn't impressed .Went again last night Friday, November 17 and the food was not good I will say the mushroom soup was good. We had chicken marsala both my husband and I. The chicken was dry there wasn't much marsala a couple mushrooms the scallop potatoes were hard and the squash chunks were hard.The service was excellent except for the fact that they don't come by and keep wine in your glass you have to pour yourself. We have traveled all over the world and I'm beginning to think people in Utah don't know what Good food is. read more

My husband and I came to the restaurant last night for our anniversary. When they brought our meals both of them were cold. Not just a little cold, but quite cold. The waitress took our food back and came back to us and agreed that our dinner was cold and they were going to remake them. When they brought our dinner out the second time they were not much warmer than the first time. Maybe lukewarm at best. We did not say anything this time. I ate it the best I could but left the potatoes. They were quite cold and they were instant potatoes. A restaurant that is on the higher end should never serve instant potatoes. The vegetables we're also frozen and not fresh, another no no for a nicer restaurant. Our next mistake was ordering dessert. The creme brulee was okay, but the molten lava cake was not warm and part of the cake was hard and could not be eaten. The only thing that redeemed the evening was the fact that they didn't charge us for the meals. They did charge us for our drinks, dessert and the soup that I ordered. Not a recommendable establishment for scheduled, large group events. We made reservations with them 1.5 months previous to our wedding which included a $150 deposit. Our plan was to have our family wedding dinner in one of their private rooms. We were in contact with them regularly over the following month to plan menu, numbers etc. Our final people count was 24, with some coming from as far away as Alaska. Upon arriving (Thursday night) they were unaware we were coming. It took them 15 minutes to find and confirm our reservation. (They thought we were coming on Saturday. We have email documentation to the contrary.) It then took them another half hour to get a room setup for us. The took us to the room which was entirely too small. We were placed on two parallel tables. Which made things rather difficult when people were addressing the group as some had to try to turn completely around to look at the speaker. This problem (and others) was compounded by the fact that there was, at most, 6 inches of space between the backs of the chairs in-between the two tables and only a bit more going around the rest of the table. The space was so confined that the waiting staff had to ask us to pass our glasses to them, and us pass our plates down to whomever the dish was for. When they brought out the menus, they were incorrectly printed, having menu items which we had elected to remove, and missing items we had requested. It took an additional 1.5 hours for our food to be brought out to us. There was, a larger private room, which we could see through a window, which would have comfortably sat 30-40 people, which had a party of 8. Their compensation for all of this was to offer us lemonade and profuse apology. The beef dish, which my fiancee ordered, was exquisite. Eyes roll back in head delicious. Their chicken Alfredo dish, which I ordered, was possibly the worst pasta dish I have ever had. I don't say that as hyperbole. I would have preferred Craft Mac and Cheese, and I'm not a fan of boxed food in general, much less craft products. For all that is good and holy in this world, do NOT order that dish. The salmon dish, which was ordered by a number of our party, was also said to be "one of the best they have ever had" The waiting staff was professional and accommodating in as much as the tight confines of the room allowed. (I literally have bedrooms in my home larger than the room they put us in.) The atmosphere would have been, I expect, quite lovely, had things gone as planned. I understand that mistakes happen. And they DID accommodate us. But their attempts to compensate for their blunder did not match up to the level of their failure. I like lemonade. but not THAT much. And really. Don't get the Chicken Alfredo. The noodles were rubbery and stuck together. it was gross. I ate it without complaint because people were already stressed out about the situation and I just didn't feel like it was worth it to make things worse. We are from NYC and have many great restaurants to enjoy. However, I cant think of a better resturant that I have visted then La Jolla Groves. we had our sons wedding rehearsal dinner at La Jolla Groves late June 2018. The Place was perfect and the staff, especially Joel made it special. Cameron, a manager went out of his way to accommodate our large group and budget. All our guest were impressed with everything about La Jolla from the entrees to the beautiful space and the service. I loved every moment and will always remember our time there. The service was average, nothing exceptional - which is what you expect when you're paying $30 a plate in Utah County. I ordered the seafood wontons which sounded like an amazing option as an appetizer, but it tasted like canned tuna and had the texture of mashed potatoes. The duck breast was good enough. The sauce is amazing (which sauces are always amazing here), but I specifically asked the waiter if the duck was cooked to order or if it was chef's preference and he said it was cooked to order. So, I asked for medium-rare and I received it medium-well. Medium would have been fine, but medium-we'll? The vegetables were good, but they were unseasoned. Yes I love the taste of vegetables, but add a little something to it. The au-gratin potatoes were average at best. He best thing I had was the mushroom bisque. That was definitely a well flavored dish, I would have liked to have seen some color other than white cream against true pale brown of the mushrooms, just a little green or anything, but oh well. I don't know why anyone would give this place 5 stars. I got excited to try it because it was a new place to eat in Provo that wasn't a chain, and I was sorely disappointed. Seriously my entree was terrible. I had the Chicken Stuffed Crepes, they tasted worse than store bought frozen chicken pot pie, I barely ate any of it. The dessert was ok, what you would expect from a chain restaurant type place, not a one of a kind place. I did go back to try the cheese platter, which was pretty good. Not good service either. Egregious coffee prices. The server said " yes a lot of people don't like it but the menu says we charge by the cup". I pointed out that I never saw or was offered a menu before I ordered plain pot brewed coffee ( not a fancy drink like cafe au lait). How could I know a $2 cup of regular coffee would cost over $20?? Pleasant interior and exterior ambiance lunch or an evening with friends or loved ones. Good service, excellent food and selection with fair pricing. Fresh and light without heavy sauces so the flavor of the food comes through. Personally, I would appreciate a few vegetarian options, but I'll be returning either way. read more

As another recent post said, something sad has happened here. Our 2 previous visits were exquisite. Tonight we took family that was visiting and it was honestly embarrassing. We apologized many times. Service was so slow despite the entire lemon grove being empty. Rolls, menus and drinks were forgotten. Food was just ok compared to the past- my veggies were undercooked and crunchy; salmon was dry. The molten lava cake was overbaked and had no molten sauce center to speak of. The quality was about 1/3 of what we paid for. It was once our favorite place, I'm not convinced we will ever return. read more

Came for Valentine's Day and had reserved a table. Came 15 minutes early to our reservation. They had over booked and said "sorry people are not leaving their tables" we waited an HOUR with a newborn baby! It was so packed there wasn't even room to wait inside. So we had to wait outside in the cold. By the time we were finally seated it has the worst table in the corner smashed against a wall by the kitchen. I had no room I had to shimmy in to my seat between two walls and the table, we weren't even under the lemon trees :(. We immediately ordered. It TOOK ANOTHER HOUR for our food to come out. By that point our tiny baby was starving and I didn't even have enough room to feed her a bottle without putting her on the table because of how cramped in the corner our table was, she barely could fit on my lap. Once the food finally came we just asked to have it boxed to go, we didn't want to be there any longer it was such a horrible experience I am sick about it. Waste of $100 and a ruined Valentine's Day. Worst part was La Jolla groves is where my husband proposed 4 years ago and he hadn't been back since. We were so excited to be back at this "special place" and I feel last nights experience ruined La Jolla for us. read more

I brought my family to this restaurant last week and I was expecting a pleasant experience. I have passed the restaurant before and was generally interested. However, the number of positive things that describe my experience can be counted on one hand. While the atmosphere was a cool vibe, my wife had to get up to shut the front 2 doors 7 times throughout the evening while the hostesses and front of house patrons watched her repeatedly. Regarding the food, it was not good. To eat, I had some salad with avocado and the avocado still had bits of the skin on it. My niece got the salmon and it looked like a gelatinous block atop a bag of freezer burned vegetables. Apart from that, we had to wait over an hour and a half for our food. I am from Las Vegas and understand that at times there can be back up in restaurants, but that is unacceptable. My uncle ordered the surf and turf and the steak he was served was cold from waiting to be brought out for so long. We were very unhappy with the service and the food and it was obvious. However, as a last ditch attempt to get on our good side, the host brought us all desserts on the house. The only problem was that he brought them to us without asking and it was very unprofessional. People don't want desserts like that at 11 pm. I had high hopes for this restaurant, but it failed miserably. read more

Gotta say I was very disappointed with our visit. After reading rave reviews all day and checking the menu and looking at photos I decided on this restaurant for us to dine for our anniversary. We got in early so were seated right away. We had to ask for a wine menu which took a bit to come back, once we ordered drinks we sat there for a bit deciding what to order. My husband ordered, at that point we learned they gave us two different menus and his was old and the steak he wanted is not on the new menu. I ordered off the new menu and they were out of the halibut. At 515pm???!!! By this point we have been sitting for about 15 minutes and our wine still never arrived. for the price we kind of had our hearts set on those items. The waiter gave us a minute to decide on something else......he never came back ...we ended up just getting up and leaving...no wine...no goodbye. Probably wont return. read more

The ambience and Decor of the restaurant is beautiful! We were treating guests to a dinner and read about this online. Upon entering the restaurant you will be impressed. The bad news was our waiter was on the slow side and was a bit socially inept. Luckily a manager came over and swooped in to help. The hostess had recommended the butternut squash soup. She said it was like pumpkin pie in a bowl. I should have listened to her, it was way too sweet for me but others at our table loved it. The lemon roasted chicken was wonderful and the vegetables that came with it we're perfectly prepared. The roasted chicken salad did not have enough of the baby spinach greens and had way too much dressing. Several guests had pasta dishes and they were pleased overall. On a bright note the wine list was very reasonably priced. The Apple Beggar's purse dessert was not heated and I did not finish it. So overall, impressive Decor, mediocre food and hope for a good waiter. read more

La Jolla is nice i admit, but after dining at the chef's table there is no comparison to the delicate balance of excellent service and a delicious meal! The atmosphere is inviting and bright for the lunch I enjoyed. The photos online really don't do the restaurant justice for their decor, it is beautiful! The cheese and fruit plate was superb! Select cheese and fruit that tasted like it was just picked. I cannot get the lightly blackened salmon salad off my mind and palette, the tender salmon was cooked in a dressing I have never tasted before, I want more. I am not one to order desert but ordered anyway and very pleased I did. The lemon cake is amazing! The slightly hardened honey crust, the moist cake and the delicious cream in the center. Yum! Will return when I am out that way again. Grateful they have a wine license, meals are best enjoyed with a glass. read more

Going here is a treat for us, we save up for it. We have eaten here 4 times. But 2 out of those 4 times our order was wrong. We were brought a completely different entree than the one we ordered. To be fair, it was a busy night, but an hour? Really? Also, the food tasted similar to Olive Garden (I hate Olive Garden) but cost about 3x as much as a meal at Olive Garden. At this price point, I expect more interesting flavors and more attentive service. There is a nice ambience, but the chef's choices are very safe, with a general lack of flavor dimension. There's nothing exciting or unusual on the menu. My cheese and fruit plate appetizer was served with VERY mild gorgonzola, Swiss, and brie, all of which were chilled (WHY on earth would you serve chilled cheeses?!), the tenderloin medallions were very salt-and-pepper (overdone--I asked for medium rare and for medium well), with a little mango-ginger reduction on the side that was too sweet and had no detectable ginger taste to it, and the salmon and shrimp scampi were both bland. Also, each time I have been here, it is next to impossible to get the waitstaff's attention, and they leave you alone for extended periods of time. We tried waving our arms, saying, "excuse me," fairly loudly, and finally gave up and waited ten more minutes for our server to come by and ask if we'd like our check... she collected our check promptly, but then kept it for FIFTEEN minutes. How can it possibly take that long to run a card? I won't be back anytime soon. read more

This place has gone downhill big time and the prices have just gone up. I'm sad because we used to be huge fans 2-3 years ago. The ravioli was actually gross and way too salty with what appeared to be canned veggies on top. I paid $15 for 5 ravioli - not cool. For 2 people paying $50 I was very disappointed with the quality and portions. I'm still hungry but out of money! I have been to this restaurant several times and I have really enjoyed the food and the service at each meal. The free rolls they give you are almost as good as homemade and the balsamic vinaigrette is one of the best I've ever had. The salmon with cilantro butter tastes very fresh and is perfectly seared on each side. My husband ordered the chicken marsala and it was better than I've had at some Italian restaurants. For dessert, the orange creme brulee is very creamy, not gritty at all, and the orange zest lightens the heavy custard. I have also tried the lemon cake which, surprisingly, has a very pronounced lemon flavor in both the cake and the icing. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will eat there again and again. read more

Sorry but I don't have a clue what everyone is talking about this restaurant is over priced and portions are extremely small and not satisfying. We were seated without a wait on a Saturday night which was nice however after about 10 minutes we were asked if we could move tables because they needed more room for a private party. The manager told us he would take care of us so we agreed even though we were not excited about it. This turned out to be a terrible mistake we were almost completely forgot about by our waiter the rest of the night because we were out of his normal area. We ordered wine that didn't show up until after our entree's and our soup was completely forgot. On top of all this the manager did absolutely nothing for us. We are not people that complain so we paid our bill and left and will never go back. read more

This is a unique and quiet little spot. We were quickly greeted by a very friendly hostess. We were able to be seated right away. Seared Ahi appetizer was excellent and I loved the butter nut squash soup. Unfortunately that is about the end of the positive experience. The back waiter brought a basket of bread.....twice. We had not even touched the first basket of bread. We were not brought appetizer plates with our appetizer so we improvised and used our clean bread plates. The now dirty bread/appetizer plates sat at the side of our small table until our meal was almost complete. We had to stack them before they were removed. And the two baskets of bread were still sitting there untouched, and never questioned by any employee. The food sounded amazing but did not live up to expectations. The beef medallions seemed to be a very good cut of meat but grossly lacking in salt and pepper, and tender or not should probably have been served with a steak knife. The sauce on the shrimp was odd with the creamy lemon flavor finishing with a sugary sweetness. The Chicken Marsala had a wonderful Marsala sauce over an mix of moist and dry chicken. The mixed root vegetables were very bland and the scallop potatoes required my knife to penetrate the top layer. The server helping us was far from attentive and although she went past our table many times we were at least half way through our meal before she asked about the food. We were traveling through and so we were dressed comfortably in jeans. Maybe she felt as though we were not worth her time, but he 10% tip was the lack of attention from her not our lack of tipping etiquette. Went to dinner there with my husband and sister this evening. Terrible customer service. Servers walked by our table like we were invisible. Never refilled our waters . They were out of bread. Whether they were short staffed or what there was no assigned waiter it looked as if a management person took our order. Appetizer and dinner was very slow in coming. There wasn't that many customers in the restaurant but the staff seemed to be interested in one particular family with service. We were ignored unless I flagged their attention. We have been there previous times and have never had such poor treatment. I don't have any desire to return to this restaurant. Very very disappointing. Food this time was marginal. They never returned to ask how our food was. With the amount that you pay for the food I expect excellent quality read more
