It's on the Northwest side of Fresno and Clinton. Upon arrival, there was no parking spot so I just randomly parked my car. Old food and stale bread that is rock hard and overpriced. I came here once before for some bolillo but it was hard and old. I figured it was just a bad day and they had it from the day before. Today, me and my wife decided to give them another try and ordered two tortas; one cubana and one milanesa. While I was in there I decided what the heck and bought 3 pieces of bread. Total came out to $35.65 which at first seemed a little steep but I figured the food would be well worth it. Once I got home we discovered 2/3 breads were ROCK SOLID! We coukd literally knock on the muffin like a dang door. They tasted old and dry like they had been sitting for some time. Now the tortas looked great. . . at first. Until I was a couple bites in and tasted the meat. I opened my torta and found the meat was even older than the bread and had even began to lose its color and it left a sour taste on my tongue. I had a friend recommend La Luna for tamales. During the holidays, my regular tamale supplier stopped returning my calls. We got pollo chili rojo and queso jalapeno. The size of the tamales was pretty standard. Not too big and not too small. The use real masa and corn husks in the making. The chicken with red chili was really good. They were like a traditional red tamale. The flavors were right on and the chicken was seasoned and cooked well. The cheese and jalapeno tamales were much better. The cheese was nice and the jalapeno was great these tasted great. The downside is the price. Maybe I have been spoiled. The tamales were $3/each. At a dozen each, it was $72. I'm very picky about the sweet bread bc I grew up in Japan and Japanese eat tons of sweet breads I mean there's a bakery every corner. Even inside the bullet trains , train stations , airport there are bakeries and sell sweet breads. Their breads are soft , fluffy and just the right amount of sweetness. I had not encountered Mexican sweet breads that were just as good as the Japanese breads until I tried la Luna bakery 's sweet breads. Theirs are soft , fluffy and sweet. I was really impressed. Meh, it's just OK. I would love to give this place about 2.5 stars, but I'll round up. I only had the coffee and some pan dulce, but apparently they serve savory plates as well like rolled tacos, tortas and enchiladas. Still this place needs some work. Trying to shop/snack local in Fresno is a pretty big task, everywhere you go looks likes a backroom marketing pie chart of neighborhoods and demographics; Taco bell in the Tower District and Chipotle(s) in the more affluent areas like North Fresno and Clovis. So discovering a small local bakery and coffee shop was a small ray of light, but unfortunately that light burnt out quickly as I walked in started to order. The only coffee that was available was some generic brown liquid that looked like a cafeteria blend and when I asked for nonfat milk I got 3 parts cream and 1 part coffee, It was pretty much a glass a milk with a splash of coffee. The pan dulce, looked great in the case, but it was dry and lacked that extra dose of sugar & lard I like with my pan dulce. By the next morning this stuff was likened to greasy bricks of sugar. Unfortunately the cafe options in this part of town are pretty slim and I never thought I would say, "where's the nearest Starbucks" after visiting a local cafe. I hope this place fixes it's small issues and is able to stick around because Fresno needs more local spots. read more

This is my second visit to this place. 12 pieces of bread was $27.00, plus taxes, making it approx., $2.75 each. I got small size pumpkin pies (empanadas de calabaza). They were pretty small. There's no price signs on the bread. I sure didn't think they were about $2.75 each. Anyhow, I gave the guy $40.00 because I didn't have a $10, the guy only returned a dolla. I told him that I gave her 2 $20 bills. He said "that's right.". This was the same guy whom I had a bad experience with on my first visit. On my first visit, I went there not for Mexican bread, but for the tamales. I first asked for the prices: half dozen & one dozen prices. So, I told him that I wanted half dozen of chicken tamales. He said ok and went to the kitchen to place the order. He said he will charge me when they are done. I said, oh, ok, no problem. literally, 3 minutes later the lady, whom I found out is the owner, came out with order. The man rang me up and said "It's X amount for a dozen.". I told him that I didn't order one dozen, but half dozen of chicken tamales. The man with attitude said "You told me one dozen and they already made them, and I can't cancel the order. Sorry.". I told him that I specifically asked for the prices for half and one dozen of chicken tamales because I only had a specific amount of cash on me. Now, why would I order a dozen well knowing I didn't have the cash on me? . Plus, I'm not paying for your mistake. Therefor, please cancel the other half order. He insisted that he couldn't and they already made them. I told him that in the 3 minute wait they probably reheated them and not "cooked them". At that point I turned to the lady and asked for the owner. She heard it all and said "No, problem, mame, how many do you want?", I said not six please. She said "I'm sorry for the mistake. we care about our customers and our customers are always right.". I told her: Mame, just because you are so polite and nice, and if I had enough for the other 6 tamales I would have bought them from you. it's this man's present that was not polite, actually rude, refusing to cancel the other order, which he doesn't accept he made a mistake in... that I almost walked out with zero tamale. You may want to train him because his attitude is terrible. Thank you for understanding and caring about your customer. There's zero loss here. This was my first experience and thought I would return hoping the man would not be there. I was wrong, he was there. My family who often buy Mexican bread, specifically middle size "empanadas de calabaza" said "How much were these? what a joke! That guy got you back.". I knew it, but I first had to get few people's opinions and even non family members. Few said "These little pies are not even filled right (lack of the filling. This man told me that the bakery keeps getting robbed, during a very short conversation. I forgave the first experience and talked to him like anyone else, but now I see that he possibly crank the price on me OR they have to make up losses due to these bakery thefts. Times are hard, I get that, but paying $2.75 for a small/mini size empanada de calabaza is a joke. Shoot, I get medium size fresh empanadas de calabaza, pina/pineappl, and other pie fills for $5 for 4 pieces, like El Super, Vallartas, and my local bakery who unfortunately closes on Mondays... that's why I went back to this baker. sure didn't want to go to a grocery store for bread. If y'all plan on visiting this place- good! just make sure to ask for the price of each bread you plan on buying (if you care), before you get stuck with the bill, especially if this man is still there, because once he "works" by picking up the bread and putting bread in the bad or place an order... you will be forced to pay for it, unless the sweetRemember, there's no perfect service experience. You may have had a good one, but my 2 experiences with this man was not. Tamales were good. Bread was too, but for the size and little filling... not so good.
