Overall, this is a place my roommate and I hit up regularly, and we will continue to do so. I am typically loathe to give higher than 3 stars to a chain, but this joint earned it. I don't typically switch it up too much, but I love to get the Duet Magnifique. I pick one of the sandwiches and a cup of the potato soup with bacon and cheese. I have tried a few other things. I really do enjoy the chicken friand with the mushroom sauce. Of course the caesar dressing is amazing. I am, somehow, the only person on the planet that does not like their tomato basil soup -- nothing against the restaurant, it just isn't my thing. However, my favorite thing about the whole affair is the bakery. I LOVE the lemon tart and for Valentine's Day, you can get a heart-shaped cheesecake. While I already enjoy the cheesecake, the extra step is nice and appreciated. read more

I placed an order for a fruit tart on Monday, April 4 for the boss's birthday celebration on Friday, April 8. While there to pick it up, they inform me that they don't have a fruit tart. I got no emails, no phone calls, nothing. When I ask for a receipt for my refund, the young lady told me that I have to apply for a refund through the app. I told her that I didn't use an app that I ordered through the website. She insisted that the store doesn't handle refunds for online orders and I had to go through the website. I get on the website, once I get back to work, and I can't find a single place to "apply for a refund." I'm constantly given messages that say "access denied." Somewhere I find that if I have an issue with an order to CONTACT THE STORE. Now I'm on the phone in a constant loop saying "press 4 to speak to the store" and then getting kicked back. I finally get someone on the phone and they tell me again to "apply online." I had to insist on speaking to a manager, who did seem very nice, and she asked me when I needed the fruit tart because she can apparently whip one up by 4:00. I'm really losing my patience and I inform her that I needed it for 1:00 hence why I placed the order for 1:00 (remember, I placed the order on Monday for a Friday pickup. My part = DONE). I also don't understand why she didn't "whip one up" that morning. The nice manager informed me that she'll email the person who handles refunds and get back with me. I never heard anything. A few days later, I called their corporate office and left a message and NOTHING. We had to dispute the charge through our credit card company. Honestly, they don't deserve one star. This place is just delightful. They have a lot of pastry options for breakfast but my favorite meal here is lunch. The Croque Monsieur with a side of Tomato Basil Soupe is a full day's worth of calories and TOTALLY worth it. Healthier (and almost equally delicious) alternatives include their Pasta Salad, Caesar salad, and sandwiches. I have yet to try their entrees but will on a cheat day in the near future. Tip: this place can be a bit confusing if its your first visit. It's semi-cafeteria style, so grab a menu and decide what you'd like before you get in the queue. This place is ridiculous. I used to love it, buts it's filthy and impossible to enjoy your food here. The bus boys just clean for tips. I stood by 6 disgusting tables waiting to sit and couldn't because they had not been cleared and cleaned. The bus boy came by and didn't clean them because there wasn't a tip on the table. I honestly love la Madeleine. I think the food is delicious. I love everything I've ever had there - quiche, fruit, pasta salad, sandwiches, soups, cookies, madeleines - you name it. But I will never, I repeat NEVER, get the hang of their ordering system. Just when I think I have it down - I don't. At this particular la Madeleine you order from a person who enters it into a hand held computer and then you go through the line with a number on a stick and you get your soup, salad or quiche and your drink glass. It's just... grr. I don't like it. I had a problem with both the order taker and the cashier. I asked the cashier to add 3 Lemon madeleine cookies to my order. He came back with a chocolate chip cookie that my niece asked for and forgot my madeleines. When I asked for them he looked like a space cadet. Anyway, I asked for a sandwich for my niece but the guy ordered her a kids' meal instead and she got a tiny sandwich. The "kid" happens to be a 9 year old who can actually eat a whole sandwich. So I had to go back and order her another half sandwich. Well not only did he charge me for a side even though I said I didn't want one but he ordered a FULL sandwich instead of a HALF sandwich I requested. I was just so frustrated and didn't want to leave my niece at the table for much longer so I just paid and grabbed my receipt and left and decided to take my frustration out ini this review. Well what can I say. Disappointing would be a compliment. This place could be nice, probably was at one time but not today. First, the place needs to be cleaned. Maybe they were really busy and trying to get caught up. But everything, from the tables to the drink dispensers looked dirty. So many tables sat there with dirty dishes and food on the floor the entire time we were there. We waited 25 minutes for our orders only to have them come out wrong. Did I say it wasn't busy? I will say the manager(?) did try and fixed my order. My spouses food was completely wrong and partly inedible. I did hear one of the servers say they are trying to hire people but no one wants to work. I hope they get some help soon. read more

I finally found a decent place where I can eat brunch which is something Baton Rouge lacks. The food gets 1 star, and the seating arrangements really suck. As soon as you walk in you just stand there expecting someone to seat you. Instead you have to walk up to the "host" as ask for a menu and stand there amidst others while contemplating what to eat. Its really uncomfortable. After you place your order with the host, you then have to stand on a "lunch line" as if you were some freaking second grader and that line can be significantly long! After you pickup your own own utensils, napkins and drinks you then have to find a your own table if you're lucky. Once you find a seat, then you just sit there waiting for your food. What a shitty system.......CHANGE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update.....I went back for a second time. Waited 10 minutes to place my order...waited another 20 minutes on the "lunch line"....and sat at my table for an additional 20 minutes until i got up ask asked where my food was! The food was amazing! I had a big pecan and cranberry Wildfield green salad... It was huge and yummy not too much dressing. My husband had the eggs Benedict and they were some of the best eggs Benedict we have ever had. I think having the perfectly fried bacon with the eggs made it the best ever. Food is good but why does the staff always appear frazzled and irritated at each other? I come here around twice a month and no matter the crowd the workers always seem annoyed and not friendly due to feeling frazzled. Also, the bathroom needs to be checked more often. One bathroom stall was out of order with no sign and the sink area had water all over the counter. The glasses for the mimosas were dirty and the cappuccino came in a to go cup. Such a good breakfast, lunch, brunch spot. There's a wonderful atmosphere, the staff is alert and will notice if you're just standing there waiting for something. Saw the manager comp a meal plus more, with a guest that had gotten a wrong order and been waiting for a long time! This was my first time at this location and the layout of the place is a bit confusing because there are so many different rooms, but that's a good and essential aspect to preserve the intimacy of the place. I got the Chicken La Madeline with a caesar salad. I was hoping to get the Mediterranean pasta because I sneaked a peak at the online menu before arriving, but it is actually a rice dish here. Was a little disappointed, but the chicken la Madeline was pretty good. I think it could've used some more salt or garlic. And because of my salad, I was only able to eat half and feed the rest to a hungry soul at home. Menu items were reasonably priced, service was quick. Went here on a Sunday morning and did not have to wait too long. The food was delicious. I had the cinnamon roll french toast and loved it. The only issue we encountered was that there was never enough coffee. We had to constantly wait for the employees to make more and refill. Being that this place is known for breakfast, I would have expected them to be more prepared, and not have customers standing around, holding their mugs, waiting for coffee. They have some great food at La Madeleine. Really good soups and sandwiches. I have eaten there about 7-8 times and most of them were really good. They serve free bread which is awesome and their potato soup is excellent. They also serve really good quiche's. I have been unimpressed with the deserts though which I would have expected more of and the prices for the food seems a bit high which led to my ratings 3/5. I've never had the breakfast here, so I really can't vouch on whether it's good or not. However I used to always come here when I lived here. It was one of my favorite places and my mom and I would come every Saturday. We'd both have a Caesar salad - it was hit and miss. Sometimes drenched in dressing, sometimes hardly any dressing at all. Also, if you get a small chicken Caesar versus one without chicken, the plate is 3 times bigger. I always got the cream of mushroom, potato or tomato basil soup. All of them are extremely good. I never ate out of the display case. The food looks rather old and I'd rather have fresh soup. You can order off the menu too. Which i would suggest doing with a cup of soup. The deserts always look fresh. My favorite growing up was always the Sacher torte I believe it's called? A chocolate layered cake with chocolate mouse icing. read more

The French bread the sandwich came on was delicious though! The man at the counter did sub in a Caesar salad when I didn't want chips or pasta salad, which I greatly appreciated! One of my favorite breakfast eats in town.. I always take my visiting friends here for it's incredibly fresh meals. It's a bit pricey for the dish but you always know you're paying for a really good meal. Definitely recommend ordering everything fresh made there. I've never taken anything pre-made from the little "cafeteria line" Try their American or French breakfasts, the eggs Benedict is amazing as well! The only real downside is that I kind of wish it's employees would give you a little more space.. They seem real bent on clearing your table for other parties to arrive but they don't usually ask you to leave or anything like that - I've stayed for a couple meetings there, not a bad meeting spot. read more

The atmosphere is great, and the food is delightful, but the overall system can be very confusing for newcomers. There's a buffet-style line that you place your order at the start of. You then proceed through this line regardless if you need anything from it or not. You are prompted to grab a tray and plate, though when you reach the end to pay, you'll have nothing on it and they'll then bring the food out to your table. I am giving a three star rating here mostly because of the poor service. don't get me wrong. The staff there are nice in general but during today's visit the lady who took our order at the front of store was very apathetic and acted like she didn't want to be there. If you don't want to serve the customers then maybe you should stay home. Also, the man at the cashier was not any better. he didn't even greet the customers and there were no greetings or "thank you". The food is delicious! This morning we enjoyed the Cinnamon French Toast, Eggs Benedict, a Potato Galette, and a Caramel Macchiato. This place has continued to slide down hill to the point where we both left agreeing we wouldn't return. Ordered a soup/salad combo and a French dip sandwich. Soup/salad was plated before we even got to the register, French dip took 18 minutes to arrive at our table. If my fiancé hadn't started eating her soup would have been room temperature and salad mushy - so she was basically done eating when my food finally arrived. There were more employees working than customers ordering at the counter, so not a matter of being busy. Tables/floor were all dirty, crumbs everywhere and tables left uncleared. Multiple flies inside the complimentary bread container and swarming around the soda machine. Soda machine out of ice. All in all there's no reason to spend $25 here on a quick dinner anymore with the other options within walking distance. I love La Madeleine's caesar salad. Soooo tasty! That's all I've eaten here and all I will eat, because most of their food is meat-heavy. Everybody raves about their tomato basil soup but I was less than impressed with it. Too heavy and a really beefy flavor. I prefer my tomato basil soup to be more tomato-y. Also La Madeleine is really expensive. $11+ for a regular caesar salad and some strawberries. Oh, La Madeleine... You vex me so. I've been to this location of La Madeleine many times, but the last 2 visits stick out the most. As you may have guessed, they weren't great visits. A few months ago, I went to La Madeleine for a quick dinner. I ordered my favorites: the Duet Magnifique (half) with a French dip sandwich and Tomato Basil Pesto Pasta Salade. Plus, I also ordered a cup of tomato basil soup. I finished my soup and expected to receive the rest of my food soon since the restaurant wasn't busy. I waited. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. A good 20 minutes went by - still no French dip or pasta salad. I kept thinking that surely it would come soon, and since I was dining alone, I didn't want to leave my table unattended to alert anyone. Finally, the manager noticed that I was still waiting. He went ahead and had the kitchen make me a whole French dip rather than a half at no extra charge, which was a nice gesture. So points, Mr. Manager, for taking care of your customer. Today I decided to try this location of La Madeleine again, but this time, I ordered my meal online so I could just pick it up. It was supposed to be ready just before 9pm, but even though I arrived late, my order was still not ready. I ordered the Half Rosemary Rotisserie Chicken Dinner with broccoli and a potato galette. Plus, I also ordered a petite Strawberries Romanoff. The employee assembled my meal and stacked the items in a plastic bag, and I departed. When I arrived at home after a short drive, I noted that the potato galette had been left out, and the strawberries had been smashed into their container so they were gooey and messy. Also, the chicken and broccoli were cold - not the type of "cold" you'd expect from taking a 5-7 minute car ride but the type you'd expect if your food was left out for a while before being boxed up and then taken for a ride. On top of that, nothing but the Romanoff sauce was very tasty, which was super disappointing. Prior to these 2 visits, my experience at this La Madeleine has been just fine, so that is why they still receive 3 stars rather than 2. I think I will go back soon to try again. I hate to think that this location has really declined that much. Maybe I just caught them on bad nights. read more

My elderly dad eats here a few times a week and one morning recently he forgot his wallet to pay for his breakfast. When he told Gabrielle my mom would be there soon with his wallet, she said no problem, that wasn't necessary, and gave him his breakfast with a receipt with a zero balance. It warms my heart that they recognize their regular customers. We will continue to make this our go-to breakfast spot in Baton Rouge! read more
