They are very consistent...consistently BAD. I have spoken to their headquarters to complain and the same things keep happening. I have had problem with this location all the time. La Madeleine is a great place to stop by for a cozy meal with by yourself or with the ones you love. This location is smaller than some of the other locations I've been to. The decor is standard. When you first enter you will always see a display case of desserts and a rack of their specialty items. I personally love the herbs to season my chicken and soups with. When I'm in a giving mood I will buy the tomato bisque for my husband who feels spoiled each time I pick some of for him. This location gets two stars for 2 reasons. Nearly all the tables looked dirty. I had to clean my table even though it had been cleaned. I ordered a lemon tart and it was old. It had been in the case for too long. We ordered 3 desserts and all of them tasted old and gross. I didn't bother complaining and decided to leave. Maybe the old desserts were a fluke? Who knows. I'll probably end up at this location again and hopefully will have a better experience. If I do I'll update my review. read more

This was a nice place to camp out and study while enjoying some breakfast/brunch. I've been here one other time and the food was just okay. This time I had the cinnamon French toast. I am so torn as I write this review as I actually frequent this restaurant every time I'm at the Dallas Airport. I'll start with the good then follow up with the bad. I love their tomato basil soup and they have great service. It has a brightly lit cafe type feel. Let's now talk about the bad... pretty much everything else on the menu that contains meat. My last visit was downright gross because I ordered the French dip and the low quality meat had a lot of fat, veins and what looked like tubes running through it, I get goose bumps of disgust just thinking about it. They did give me my money back and a cookie to make me feel better, which I did appreciate. This last visit I ordered the chicken Caesar salad. The lettuce was wilted and had way too much dressing. The worst part was the chicken, it had a thick layer of skin on it and was this brown seasoned slimy mess. I ended up picking every single piece out of my salad, which you can see in my picture. My advice? Order something without meat, their meat is low quality, fatty and disgusting. I would have returned it if I had more time. The cookie was also over cooked and crispy. I used to love coming here. Lately, that feeling has changed. The staff has always been nice and friendly. However, there have been a few times where they have forgotten my food or the order got lost in their system so they offered me a $10 gift card. Other times, they have taken too long with the order that I have spent over an hour or hour and a half waiting. There are many times when they are fast which is great. There's a problem with consistency. I ordered a large hot chocolate with the whip cream and the woman brought me a small cup and told me it cost extra for whip cream for which I was not charged for. What really made me uncomfortable the last time I came here, I bought a drink and as I was pouring tea into my cup, I saw a few small roaches by the drink, condiment, and bread/jam area. The magical combination starts with a classic cup of tomato basil soup (substituting for a salad) which is always the perfect mixture of cream + tomato topped with some fresh cracked pepper & sopped up with a slice of La Madeleine multigrain bread. The fat free chicken Caesar salad lightly dressed with light croutons and strawberries Romanoff with the sweet, cream sauce on the side is delightful. This is pure ladies' lunch perfection. I always loved the food too... but the servers behind the counter were so disinterested, so disengaged from what they were doing - that we left after being held up in line (behind only 2 other customers) after a 10-minute wait. Seriously, the place was chaotic and loud - not because of the customers, but because the people who work there have zero interest in quality service. They're fooling around and don't care that customers are waiting... it's almost like a deliberate abuse of power to them, to keep people waiting for no apparent reason other than they know that it pisses people off. There was a huge crowd and line shortly after we arrived, which just shocked me... the décor is lovely, but the food and service were just not impressive. Having had actual french food in Paris... it certainly did not compare, but even on a standard lunch café scale, it was subpar. Great location nestled right on the edge of the SMU campus. Consistently good food and you get what you expect from your order. Nice, quiet place to study, work, or catch up with friends. If it's a nice day, there is always outdoor seating available to enjoy nice days or relax and take in some good people watching. If it's gameday on campus at Gerald Ford Stadium, you will find it hard to get to the restaurant and parking can be a true nightmare. Also there isn't any parking in the lot connected to this shopping strip for non- customers and they have no problem towing vehicles that are maybe trying to get free parking right across from the stadium gates. (Not that anyone would try to park here without belonging :-) ) Worth checking out for a light meal near campus despite being a bit expensive for similar dining options in the nearby area. That said, if grabbing something between class or if you are taking a break while conducting some sort of business on campus at SMU, this is absolutely a good go to option and gives you an alternative to the usual dining options usually found around college campuses read more

I love La Madeleine. I have a lot of good memories attached to this one by SMU. My family would drop by here when I was a child after visiting my brother on campus, long ago when this La Madeleine (the first one ever) was just a baby. Back when I could read the exit sign wholly innocent of any sexual meaning, I loved that the exit before or after this one was Lovers Lane. It seemed so romantic. Anyway, I'd ask for a butterfly and get a palmier, and my mom would order a kwa-soan, and I felt really chic and cool for about 5 minutes. In third grade I decided to do a project on France in my GT class and I made a bas-relief map of the country with an indention in the top middle to represent Paris. As part of my research, I had to interview someone about French life and culture and my mom brought me here to interview the counter people as we got lunch. Someone here gave me a Franc but didn't know what was smaller than a Franc and I also wrangled a miniature paper French flag to stick in the hole where Paris was out of the deal. I'm sure I got a palmier and my mom got a croissant so pretty good grab all in all. I haven't been here in probably 20 years but I have very fond memories of the place and remember that it had a very peaceful vibe. Reading over this review, it makes me feel like I was privileged, which is strange because I grew up in an average neighborhood in Duncanville and my family wouldn't really splurge ever with money. My brother even went to SMU on a band scholarship. But my parents were pretty smart and they knew that going to La Madeleine every once in a while made their little girl feel special. Stopped by as we were rushing to an 8am flight and needed breakfast. As we approached our gate, I spotted a famous coffee kiosk directly in front and was thrilled, until I saw the exaggerated line extending several gates back and the lone barista at work. And FIVE people were working registers and filling orders as efficiently as possible. They worked in unison, almost like busy workers from a Disney film. Perfect! I hopped in line and immediately salivated over my options. A banana nut muffin? A slice of lemon cake? A delicious-ready-to-be-devoured almond croissant? Oh wait! There was an even-more-delicious-ready-to-be-devoured looking chocolate croissant right next to it!! Decisions, decisions. I was about to inquire when I noticed the ALMOND AND CHOCOLATE Croissant just below. DONE! One of those for me. I was ready to order. Oh wait! I still needed something for my hubby and my baby. Fruit and yogurt options galore-- grabbed one for my babe. Hubby got the banana muffin. One fruit smoothie and a latte to go completed my order. My server was pleasant and efficient- an elusive combo out east! My order arrived and I was on my way. Checked my watch- less than five minutes!! As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by an employee that gives you the menu and places your order in the computer before you proceed down the line. As you go down the cafeteria-style cue (with trays), you're paraded in front of all these other dishes that look really good. I saw a few items that I would have ordered in lieu of the sandwich I ordered from the menu if I had known that they were an option. Once we paid (somehow they managed to make that complicated as well, but I won't go into detail), we sat down. The food took forever, and I was a little worried they were going to mess up the orders...it even took an oddly long time for my iced coffee to come out! I realize that this is a chain, so the service model is set in stone, but one way to speed things up is to have the people that order from the menu bypass the line and go straight to the cash register (or maybe even bring the check to their table). I'm not usually partial to most chain establishments, but I can always count on La Madeleine to serve fresh, tasty, inexpensive food. There is nothing better on a cold day than the (horribly fattening and oh-so-delish) tomato basil soup or the french onion soup. You can actually get a cup with half a sandwich and a side if you are so inclined. As far as sandwiches go, I love their croque monsieur. I actually had a croque monsieur while in Normandy and the two versions were practically the same. The chicken friand is a flaky, buttery puff pasty filled with minced chicken and mushroom and topped by a creamy mushroom sauce. The complimentary breads with butter and jam is a nice touch. When I'm feeling extra frisky I might go for something in the rather large dessert case or the strawberry romanoff...gargantuan strawberries topped with a sweet, creamy rum sauce. My only complaint is that you may feel a little outnumbered if A)you aren't a SMU kid, B)you aren't wealthy, C)you aren't a Highland Park soccer mom and master shopper. read more

Tuesday night we ate here for an early dinner before going to Trinity Hall. I had just a bowl of soup. She had 1/2 of a sandwich, pasta salad, cup of soup and we both shared an order of the Strawberries Romanoff. My friend is not a fan of the food at Trinity Hall and no doubt this early dinner was cheaper than anything we could have gotten at the bar. I had to bring my plate back up to the counter because she forgot all the roasted vegetables. She added them on then slapped more dressing on without telling me. She was too quick for me to stop her. That just made things worse, as my poor mixed greens were squealing for me to help them as they drowned in pesto dressing. The chicken had good flavor but was dry and crumbled into a flavorful ball of protein. Stick with the soup and you'll be okay. Whenever I'm in Dallas, I like to go to this location. Located in a pleasant part of town-like most la Madeleines-and the food is better than most of the la Madeleine cafes in Houston-in my opinion. Probably because this is HQ. My review is mainly about the food and service. I don't drink the coffee here but I guess it's good. When I come with my mom, she usually likes to request fresh coffee and she always enjoys her cup. I love the way the duet magnifique is prepared here and everything always taste yummy and fresh. Some items, like the quiche and chicken friand are pre-baked and sit out under the heaters but it's always still good. In my experience I haven't ran into any mean or unprofessional associates here.The employees here are usually courteous and professional enough for a chain cafe. read more

This is our 3rd time having an issue with the cashier in the morning . The lady always has an attitude and is super rude. We walked in today at 8am and wanted to order breakfast and told me they did not have a cook in and that could only get pastries or salads. I was very upset and just got a coffee and almond croissant. 10 mins later I see someone in the dining area eating a breakfast plate. She lied to me! She sees me come in and always has a issue with me. I don't know why. She seriously should not work if she has that's attitude with customers. I believe she is racist and I get treated differently than other customers in the restaurant. I won't ever be coming in to this location. Stopped in here for a quick lunch with three people on my ticket so I figured it'd be a little slow getting the food out anyway so no real complaint there, though I did have to go back up to the counter once to ask for something they forgot. Got started on our meal and my husband was given the wrong quiche which he was initially fine with, but when he got to his French Onion Soup he said it was far too salty to eat. Our friend's food was fine (I believe he had the French Dip) and my Croque Monsigneur was a little bland but not bad. Word of warning: their full size sandwiches are enormous! Have to rave about the desserts, though! I had a mini fruit tart that was divine, hubby was happy with his croissant and our friend liked his cheesecake. The "dining room" is a little odd here--it's a hallway that's been filled with cafe seating and you definitely feel like you're eating in the middle of a mall corridor with people walking in from an exterior door behind you. It also echoes like crazy so any loud noises (kids, shouting, kids shouting) are amplified. If you're looking for a cozy cafe atmosphere like other La Madeleines this just isn't it. read more

La Madeleine. It's hard to know where to start. I loved their tomato basil soup, until I saw the nutrition facts. I haven't been back since. It's a flavorful blend, that I've tried to remake in a healthier version at home (none too successfully), but its wonderful nonetheless. Their fresh baked sourdough is also good and a nice addition to the soup. I've tasted other people's dishes here and it's just too rich/fattening/oily/greasy for me; with the exception of their salads if you ask for the dressing on the side. Chicken Friand I stopped in to grab a quick bite before my flight. Although it isn't possible to have all the options as their larger restaurants, the menu had two of my favorite dishes. That would be the Chicken la Madeleine which is chicken with mushroom sauce and Chicken Friand which is chicken and mushroom filling in a puff pastry topped with the mushrooms sauce. It was about 3pm in the afternoon. I'm not sure what their hours are and if they only cook so many entrees a day but they were out of the Chicken la Madeleine. If they had been out of the Chicken Friand then I would have gone elsewhere for food. The rest of the menu consisted of soup and sandwiches. The Chicken Friand was delicious. It would have been better with a glass of wine but they don't serve alcohol here. The service wasn't horrible but there was definitely room for improvement. It almost felt like they were done for the day and really didn't want any more customers. I sat at the one table available with the flag they gave me for my order. One of the girls came by to wipe the table and took the flag. I thought there aren't that many people in here so they will know my order right? When my order came up the girl walked around trying to find a flag to figure out whose food it was. I finally said I believe that's mine and explained to her that she just wiped the table and took the flag. I would still stop in as long as they have the french dishes available. I was sitting in my office today starved out and my coworker suggested we order take-out from La Madeleine. She recommended the caesar salad with chicken and my oh my am I glad that she did. The salad came with chicken, croutons, shredded cheese, wheat bread slices, and blackberry jam. I tossed out the croutons and skipped the jam; however, my coworker said that the jam is her favorite part and that it's so good she could bathe in it. Owwww! The lettuce was so fresh and crisp. I like that they put the fat free caesar dressing on the side so that I could add how much I wanted myself. It was a wonderful salad, and this is coming from someone that isn't a big fan of salads. I also love to get their lemon and fruit tarts. I can never choose which one is my favorite, so I normally order both of them. The fruit tart comes with a kiwi, mandarin, strawberry slice, and a blueberry on the top of it, while the lemon tart has a slice of lemon on top. Both are sweet treats. read more
