This place has its ups and down. Those of us who have frequented throughout the years can tell the difference. However, it is not at all bad. I think it has alot to do with change in staff because the food is consistenly good. Their salads are fresh, and tasty. Their entrees are very consistent. The desserts are very appealing. I have noticed the restaurant sometimes has less staff and more issues with refilling supplies, cleaningness, etc. But other times I have been there it has been the opposite and everything went great! Like I said, I think it has to do more with staff changes than with the restaurant/chain. I am a continued returned customer. I could eat their salads everyday. read more

I don't know if this is a corporate thing but over the years I have noticed one sad thing from eating the delish chicken la Madeline with a potato galette. The portions have significantly shrunk. The once large piece of chicken is now super pathetic. Think tennis ball sized. While this is probably the correct portion size we SHOULD eat, it saddens me that the prices remain high despite the shrunken amount of food received. Good for the waistline. Bad for the wallet. The good news is the taste remains deliciousness. read more

I was so sad when La Madeleine was destroyed in Harvey, so I was super excited to see they had opened back up. I came here with a friend to get some Country Potato soup because I had been craving it all day long! I was so disappointed! The soup was COLD! Like was this even warm at some point? I also asked for just a smidge more bacon and they barely gave me any. They also ran out of cheddar cheese to add as well so they used white cheese they used for salad... I just think they need to train their staff better and be a little more on top of things. My friend's meal was good, so there's a little hope. Hopefully next time it'll be better! read more

Now re-opened after Hurricane Harvey, and better than ever! La Madeleine was definitely missed by the Kingwood residents, and we were so happy to see it return after the flooding. We stopped the Saturday after reopening for lunch and tried the hot sandwiches for the first time. Everything was excellent and delicious! I ordered the pesto pasta with chicken and it came out super hot and fresh and it was delicious but it needed a bit of salt. No big deal! My friend I was dining with, however, ordered a bowl of potato soup and it was extremely cold and the cheese didn't melt and the soup clumped together. Needless to say she didn't enjoy her dining experience as much as I did! Maybe keep in mind the best time to come for fresh soup because 8:00 pm is not the time! read more

Came here to pick up something different for lunch than my typical and I'm so glad I did! The lady who took my order was friendly and in good spirit! I had the Chicken a La Madeline with rice, green beans, and broccoli and I ate it ALL Salt and spice were lacking a little but I added it on top which works even better! Worthless staff members on take out orders. Extremely forgetful in packaging all items, and forgets to come to car. My last 2 to go orders are a bad experience. Ordered Caesar salad and a side of bread (along with other things). I don't know what the dressing was that they gave us, but it definitely wasn't Caesar dressing, nor was it even good. The bread just wasn't given to us. Not typical for them to make mistakes like this though. They'll still have my business, but I'll double check my orders from now on. read more

This poor La Mad needs help. Every time we go, which has been at least more than a dozen in the past couple of years, it just gets worse. Some issues: - staff is not friendly or is distracted; last time, the cashier just stood there staring when we walked in, and i wondered if I had turned into a lizard or something. - the bread bin and jam containers remain fairly empty, and things like asking for a to-go container take far too long (i just stood there and waited for the staffers to break up their fun before they asked what I needed.) - the food is standard La Madeleine, so I have no complaints of that. - the soda fountain: while most people may not drink it, some people still want to have soda, and it never fails...there is always a broken diet-coke tap. It's pretty awful because some people really look forward to that evil diet coke! (not me, of course.) - empty dishes are not picked up from tables often enough, and the floors/bathroom are (gulp) dirty. :-( yuck. I really miss the older days when La Madeleine was a treat; yes, it's "faster" food, and not meant to be fine dining, but it used to be consistently so high-quality. I don't know, but this location needs a revival. read more

While the food is always good, we never receive what we order and their management is a little confused about Texas Blue Laws (but who wouldn't be, right?). On Sundays, one of the managers evidently thinks this restaurant is either a sporting event or winery. She claims that she cannot sell mimosas until 10:00 on Sundays. The law says a restaurant can serve alcohol with a meal before noon. It doesn't specify how early. So despite the mixups on the food and not usually coming on a Sunday, we still enjoy a meal at this La Mad's. read more

I came here on the recommendation of a coworker who had brought their mini fruit tarts to work one day. It was nondescript on the outside but once you enter the cafe, it is like you've been transported to a little bakery somewhere in France. The food was wonderful and the portions were generous (we ordered breakfast sandwiches on croissants). The staff was polite but I would have appreciated a little more guidance and assistance as it was my first time there. I did not call the fruit tart a fruit tart, I called it a fruit pastry and they weren't very helpful on trying to figure out what I meant. Other than that, we had a lovely experience here! read more

So happy La Madeleine is back open. Breakfast was delicious and their desserts perfect with coffee.

The location is easy to reach and see from the street. The food is made with some freshness and brought out in a timely manor. The taste is often times well-worth the low price you are paying. This is enough to make me a fan and I try to stop by once a month or two when I am in the Kingwood area for lunch. The one thing that keeps me from saying this place is some-form-of-perfect would have to be the employees. While I'm sure not all of them are the same, often times they are high school children who perhaps are working 10-15hrs a week for beer money or movie tickets. They are almost always more concerned with their behind-the-bar chit chat then ensuring customers are satisfied at all times. They gossip about customers openly (I was even informed once directly by an employee that they were discussing how cute I was on a scale.... Is it shallow to hope I am not that bad? ? ?). Jokes aside, I laughed it off because the girl(s) meant no harm but at the same time, are the mangement really allowing this type of innapropriate behavior? If your willing to hire such young people to work, at least teach them the basic skills of professionalism that they can take with them when they move forward. I'd recommend this place to anyone with a stomach to fill. Just make sure you know the service your getting and all shall work out for your belly. read more

Ive been coming to this La Madeleine for a couple years. Something has changed in the last several months, and it isn't for the good. The food is tasty, however the way this location is managed makes that irrelevant. From something as basic as being out of clean forks or spoons, to having your meal ready 5 minutes before your place in line is up to pay (who wants to eat a warm breakfast anyways?) to this evening's final straw: after a vapid 'Bon appetite' from a brain dead waitress, there were no clean tables. I am going to type that again: no clean tables. Everywhere you looked were empty tables full of dirty dishes. The restaurant was not even close to being busy, and it appeared as if there were plenty of waitstaff to bus tables. When I mentioned it to the checker, he seemed very cavalier and uninterested. It is also cold enough to keep milk chilled. The waiters/waitresses seemed more interested in hanging with their off duty coworker drawing pictures on the chalkboard than doing their jobs. I won't be back here again!!!! Whoever the manager is needs to start training or firing. read more

This place has really changed from when I used to go there as a teen. The manager, she was incredibly rude to me despite the fact that we spent over $50 on food there. Empty tables are not bussed and dirty dishes sit there right next to you when you eat. A few times on sandwiches, I've bit into lettuce that still had sand on it. Didn't want to even complain to the manager because THAT's how much I didn't want to deal with her. The last two times I've walked in, it takes forever to get food - even when I'm the only person in line and there are four or five people behind the line. I now get their tomato basil soup in the jar from HEB. Won't visit this location again, especially because they were most recently cited for mouse droppings on the floor. Gross. read more

An email I sent their corporate office. It sums up my feelings both then and now: First, let me tell you how absolutely wonderful I think your restaurants are! The menu is spectacular and La Madeleine is one of my very favorite places for delicious, affordable food. For years I worked in the Woodlands and ate at your Market Street location at least once a week. So you can imagine my excitement when I moved to Kingwood and saw that you have a location there... Well false alarm! I have tried time and time again to eat dinner there and it has been a complete dud every time. My wife and I have sworn to never go back... but we love your restaurants and hope that it will be different each time. There is a manager there that leads the way in terrible service and the staff that surround him follow suit... The week of Christmas our 4 year old was with my parents and my (pregnant) wife called and said, "Meet me at La Madeleine after work, I'm craving their soup!" Knowing not to argue with a pregnant woman with a craving I agreed. Once again we left very much underwhelmed... I ordered the Chicken La Madeleine and my wife had the Duet Magnifique with a chicken salad croissant and soup. We waited and waited. Not much bread or jam was available so my ravenous wife ate the few crumbs that were left in the little dome and her soup... and we waited. Finally, our food arrived! She eats and everything is fine. Not as good as normal but edible and she's "hangry"! My food? My rice is cold and my broccoli was dang near icy but hey my chicken is warm and I'm not a complainer... so I suck it up and eat. We leave and again lament our decision to try your Kingwood location... At about midnight the real Duet Magnifique showed up: vomiting and, a few hours later, diarrhea! Food poisoning! Now I have a pregnant wife with food poisoning two days before Christmas! It was awesome! Needless to say we really won't be going back to your Kingwood location. read more

The absolute worst. My sister and I had been here once before (I had grabbed a fruit tart to go and she picked up a mini almond tart) and it was pretty good. Not great but okay. We were in the neighborhood today and she convinced me that we should try the food. We walked in and noticed a sort of weird layout. On the far left of the place is where you pay, in the middle is where you order and on the right is the register for pastries. We had no idea where to pay or where you order and the girl behind the counter was less than helpful, despite it being obvious we didn't know what to do. I asked her what the best thing on the menu was and she recommended the chicken sandwich with bacon. I picked that because there is absolutely no way to fuck up a chicken sandwich, right? Wrong. I should have figured something was up when I went and picked out some pastries and by the time I got back to my table my food was waiting there. How could they have possibly freshly prepared my sandwich in 2 minutes? The answer is they can't. The thing was completely overloaded with stale bacon grease. It literally tasted like they had fried the bacon the day before and it had been siting in it's own grease under a hot lamp ever since. The chicken was also disgusting, it might have been good at first but the overwhelmingly disgusting bacon grease destroyed anything else. The bread was nice, but I'm not going to a cafe to spend 10 bucks just to enjoy a piece of plain french bread. The pasta that went with it was passable, if boring. Absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. I left my plate there 80% full on the table. Thinking about it now I am extremely disappointed in myself I didn't send it back, but I would be at a loss for what to get instead, I have zero faith this place is capable of making a decent meal. My sister ordered a bowl of potato soup, it tasted processed and extremely disgusting. I purchased a fruit tart and a limited edition fruit tart for the Fourth of July. Both were tasty, I imagine these pastries are made off site and delivered frozen, so this place has little to no influence on it's quality. STAY AWAY, TRUST ME. read more

Not discussing their food, La Madeline Kingwood TX treats their staff like garbage. My son was owed 3 weeks pay yet La Madeline waned him to continue to come into work for free, yet he showed up every time he was scheduled to do so, worked hard YET without pay. When he told La Madeline Kingwood, TX he would come back to work once he got paid, he was then fired. If this were to happen elsewhere besides Texas, La Madeline would have been fined for every day my son didn't get paid. What is the point of ordering ahead when they are just going to sell to walk-ins what you paid ahead for??? We came for Valentine's Day dinner and it wasn't crowded but the food and service made me decide not to return. Usually when I come here, the portions are decent size and people somewhat friendly. Today the workers seemed distracted and zombie like. I tried getting the attention of a young lady at the dessert counter because I wanted some cake but she just stared right through me and turned her back to continue stocking the boxes. I was already disappointed at my meager size chicken salad sandwiches so this was the last straw. Yes, the $7 whole chicken salad croissants were like finger foods. I actually thought they were my daughter's meal from the kid's menu but when they brought out her sandwich, which was much bigger than mine, I was appalled. Like seriously??? I could of went to Subway and got a Footlong for $6 with all the veggies and sauces. I was livid and told the manager who brought out another plate of sandwiches and said I could keep both. Needless to say, I lost my appetite at that point and just wanted to grab some dessert and leave. Not surprisingly that was a disaster as well. Oh well, lesson learned. read more

They serve hot food on cold plates and multiple experiences have demonstrated that the food is served cool enough that it is not a very good experience. They are quick to reheat your food on request - and in some cases have cooked up a replacement plate. Results is a spoiled visit with guests are the early round of food for friends is 10-15 minutes ahead of those who have to wait to receive the food too cool to be happy. The place has character and the food on the menu is original which allow a good customer draw except for the deliver is less than satisfactory. read more

La Madeleine is one of my favorite restaurants to grab lunch in Kingwood. They always have fast service, fresh food, and very polite service. The time of day really depends on how great your visit ends up being. I find it better to come during brunch/early lunch and late dinner time on weekdays to avoid noisy families.
