I love this place. The first time I ever had la Madeline was in Washington DC and I was hooked. My husband and I went three times during our trip. We were so excited to find one near-ish to where we live! It's about a 35 minute drive, but we like to make it a special date when we go. It's such a cozy atmosphere and never feels overcrowded. It really has the country bistro feel. Everything I've ever had has been delicious. I will say the tarts are just ok, but all the entrees are excellent. I usually get the Chicken la Madeline and it's consistently yummy. They've even updated the outdoor setup to make it very romantic and lovely with string lights. read more

Do disappointed went there for my fab country breakfast. Galette was lukewarm, but worse was the croissant - it wasn't the flaky bread you used to get - it was roll dough! Gummy inside and not even as good as grocery store versions. When asked what happened to their French style croissants I was told that's 'the way they are now'. I was wondering if someone just messed up and used the wrong dough but apparently not. I will not go back. After years of eating there this is not even close to the French style eatery I use to know. Milk on the floor in the kitchen floor when o arrived should have told me to leave. Even their health inspection score are lower. I rarely do restaurant reviews...but this WAS my favorite breakfast place. read more

I was so excited :) I get there and there's a huge line which was totally fine however no one was there to greet me or let me know I have to order from a ipad or whatever it was so I finally get to the register and the employee tells me I have to go to the end of the already long line to order from the pad. I love the Sacher Torte, best, best, best chocolate cake. Perfect combination and moist. A little expensive but well worth it. The reason I'm giving the is location at 3 rating, is due to the services. I understand everyone is struggling with the shortage and lack of training; but the services hasn't been good in a while. Wasn't sure how I felt about coming here but my husband had a craving for Corque Monsieur, so I budged. I wasn't disappointed. Ordering/service process felt a little cumbersome since we had to order food from one person behind the counter, pay and get cold drinks with another person and them sit andwait for The food was overall solid. I got an egg white omelette and it was surprisingly tasty. That is hard to do sometimes with a blander omelette but all the veggies felt fresh and cooked just right. The baguette I got on the side was SOFT. That is also sometimes difficult to get. Our server busser could not have been more courteous and polite. Food came quickly. We dined at this restaurant today and the food was delicious! The Chicken Cordon Bleu was tender and tasty. The Pasta La Madeline was finger licking good! And the deserts to die for! The atmosphere was cozy! It was our first time there but far from our last. They cater! We had a French Themed Gala "An evening in Paris" in February. LaMadeline catered our 4 course dinner. Guest chose either the La Madeline chicken or the Cordon Bleu Pasta .the Caesar or Strawberry Spinach Salad. A tasty French Union soup was served and Dinner was topped off with various French Pastries. Dinner was scrumptious, the desserts devine! The Food arrived on time and everything was perfect. I stopped in between some shopping when I foolishly decided to make my way to Merchants Walk the week before Christmas. It was Tuesday at around noon and a cluster as usual. It was pretty busy inside but I was only getting it to go. I ordered an egg-white croissant with turkey and cheese. I really didn't think I waited long but the cashier gave me an adorable little layered fruit pudding thing, he said for my "wait." I got a French coffee and poured in some half and half.. very good coffee. I honestly kept the croissant sitting in the package for about 30 minutes because I had to drive to get my tires changed, so this time probably affected my experience. By the time I got to munch, I thought it was very good but sooo greasy and wet. So much so, that it soaked my hands with grease (?). I think the freshness caused massive steam in the well-sealed to-go box and it backfired on my meal. I'd really love to try their soup and salad and bread.. so I wouldn't be completely opposed to going back. read more

Their food is so delicious. They're struggling just like every restaurant is during covid, and sometimes lines are long, but I know it's due to covid and staffing issues. The new person working (she said her name was Melanie) made me feel so welcomed. She listened to my son talk about the mall and reacted with what came across as genuine excitement even though it was so mundane. We got a sandwich meal (for me) and 2 kids meals, and they were definitely worth the wait. All of them were delicious and made exactly as we asked [even though we had special requests, including things like less onions in the French onion soup (she skimmed from the top for me)]. Absolutely the best. We went by there as a rather large group at about 8:30 on a Saturday night., La Madeleine was awesome in accommodating us. As always I loved the bottomless cup coffee and the pastries (not bottomless unfortunately). In fact my cheesecake was so rich I could only eat half. And even though I was stuffed I still saved room for a piece of their free and awesome bread. Ahhhh just like Paris (except for the free part)... Here is something that shows me they care about customer service. I was supposed to go to the grocery store on the way home from a dinner party and instead we decided to carry on with our boisterous party and have some dessert. I HAVE to have my half and half with my coffee every morning, but since I wasn't going to have time to hit my store before they closed I asked the manager if he had any half and half in those little premeasured cups. He said no they only had fresh. And then he said I can put some in some to go container for you to take home. I said okay and a couple minutes later he appeared with a little brown paper bag with a 1/4 cup of half and half in small to go container. Man you got my business! That is going above and beyond. Also they had been busy earlier that night and were getting low on pastries in the display. We had to go up to ask for our food which was just sitting in front of a staffer. The soup we ordered was cold. The cafe was close to empty so there was no reason for this. So wanted to love this cute little restaurant. I work down the street and it is very convenient. Went there for the first time with 2 colleagues. We all got the cafe samplers. The food was very good;however, the customer service was the worst I have had in an industry that survives by its customers. The cashier just stared at you with the most unpleasant look waiting for you to begin talking. There was no interaction by her. I felt like I was bothering her by being there. When I sat down, the other 2 co workers expressed the same shock and response. One of my coworkers had already finished her food by the time they began dishing her soup. She asked them to cancel it because she had to go back to work. The lady behind the counter seemed highly irritated. Again, food 4 stars; service 0 stars if I could give. I have eaten here any number of times at noon, usually with my assistant... I never fail to feel ill afterward! I think it's just that the soups are so heavy and rich... It is cafeteria style, and while it's supposed to be 'French' the staff seems to be Creole, or Acadian, which I guess is french. And yes, it's cafeteria style. It feels overpriced. On wendsday the 15 that's the day of the visit, I was there around 2 o'clock and I had placed a order and I had to wait like 10 minutes for some one to come talk to me in the to go section just for them to tell me that the order wasn't ready, the girl with the scarf was running back and forth taking orders by herself RIDICULOUS while cashing people out while making orders, she took care of me made sure every thing was in the bag and even made me the salad they don't have any more, had a smile with every costumer. I've been a couple times with friends for lunch or dinner (btw...the tomato soup--magnificent!), but had the chance to run by today because I received what I refer to as "corporate birthday presents" for a free pastry for being a part of their mailing list. I will say, sometimes you go into a restaurant/store with a coupon/certificate for a freebie item, and you can hear the tension as they physically resist rolling their eyes--not here! I walked in the door, and there was a woman at the bakery counter right inside, who saw the certificate in my hand, smiled and said 'Oh, you're here for a pastry?" and I said I was, and asked her what were included in my options--and it was EVERYTHING (short of full sized cakes, etc on the bottom shelf) in the dessert case. I opted for a beautiful fruit tart---believe me, not an easy choice to make! they have a pretty gorgeous selection of desserts--and she boxed it up for me, and smiled and sent me on my way! I give them kudos not just for having a lovely mailing list/club perk, but for honouring it with such nice service--letting you know that you really are a valued customer, and not just a bother taking advantage of an offer. So the first time I visited this restaurant, a couple of months ago, I loved it. Food was great and staff were very friendly. What caught my attention was how clean the restaurant was. Amazing! However, this Christmas, we ordered the holiday meal pack from the catering. Very frustrating. First, they said that our order wasn't there, but we told them that the catering specialist had called us to confirm. Took them like an hour and a half to actually get our food. Then, they didn't add everything that we had ordered. Third, they put a charge on my moms credit card about 6 times, all of them different prices. So, they got our order wrong and charged us multiple times. I'll never use their catering services again. My tip to you? Dine in, but don't use their catering. It was very frustrating. read more

Worth the wait. This is a quaint little French bistro with good cappuccino and excellent crepes. It's cafeteria style with counter service so no tipping. They forgot my order but offered a dessert to make up for the mishap which I declined. It's difficult to top the authentic French bistro in traverse city Michigan but still a very satisfying experience. I miss not having beignets though they offer many other pastries. read more

I had a chicken florentine crepe and my boyfriend had some kind of fettuccine alfredo, and both were nothing special. Kind of bland, not salted, and just overall blah. I had a difficult time finishing. Honestly probably should have stuck with a sandwich and soup, but I was craving something "french". Service was great though, and the coffee was good.
