It doesn't match the top notch quality of food here. We asked for an entree (lomo saltado) specifically with no tomatoes. It came with tomatoes. We did not send it back. I had to look for our server for refills, a dessert menu, and to clear our table. The service was severely lacking which was unfortunate. I would recommend the food however. I've been to La mar 2x now and I will caveat this review with the fact that the food is tasty. Very pricey and not the best value but I get it- it's supposed to be a fancy experience in Bellevue. However the service completely sucks. It's sooooo incredibly slow. Like literally for 3 ppl and 5 dishes it took 3 hours. I've dined at the worlds top restaurants with 15-20 courses for each person and those took less time than this. Idk wtf is going on with the kitchen and/ or wait staff. Our water was never refilled. It took like 15-20 min to hunt down our server for the check. Additionally our server was like an icky salesman. Kept pushing the tasting menu or $100+ dishes on us. Felt super gross like please be a little less desperate. I'm not spending $100 on a steak that's not even wagyu. Finally the most ridiculous part. We ordered a geoduck special bc someone at my table from out of town specifically wanted to try geoduck. Like 2.5 hours later it finally came and the server was telling us "this is the blah blah blah with octopus". And we were like "oh...we don't think this is ours. We ordered geoduck". And the severe like "oh yes unfortunately we ran out and this dish is not served with octopus". And we were like "wtf....you could have given us a heads up". wtf is this- you run out of an ingredient, don't tell the diners and then try to sneak in a new dish with cheaper ingredients?! The food was thoughtful, even tho some of the dishes in the "Experencia La Mar" were more adventurous than I was. The flavors in many of the dishes were complex and yet complementary, which is hard to do. The aji Amarillo or the cebiche criollo were examples of that. The restaurant is beautiful, and it was very quiet (surprisingly) as it's built for a lively crowd and had a great vibe. The service definitely fell down. With so few tables full, it took over an hour to get our last course and then while we were waiting for dessert, the waiter brought our coats over because they wanted to close out the coat check. Apparently there are multiple locations for this restaurant across the world but nonetheless I had a good experience here celebrating my birthday. I made reservations just in case but given it was a weekday, it was not busy at most hours. We got the ceviche tasting (menu says cebiche) which has clasico, limeno, and nikkei and the salmon belly (curado) tradito which is like a carpaccio. We also got the classic pisco sour which is more on the sweet side and the royal sour that is fairly strong and high quality with gold flakes. To start, we got some plantain chips and chimichurri I think, which were fantastic that we opted for more of the dipping sauce because it was that good. The seafood here is pretty fresh. The clasico and limeno were sour and spicy, and I like the classic the most. The nikkei is an ahi tuna which is kind of tomato / ketchup based and is sweet which is a different variant. $65 for the 3 dishes is very steep though. The curado is pretty good - fairly small portions for the price but delicious. Service for a restaurant that charges this much should be better. The first 30 min was excellent but the server stopped putting much effort and almost ignored our requests thereafter. This is such a great place for a night out for dinner with friends, family or even a date night. The restaurant is super busy and lively. Bright and modern decor. It really is a bright and lively mood when you enter. While the price is high, I feel that the food matched in quality and freshness; especially with most of it being raw. We ended up here during cebiche week and got their cebiche tasting, their scallop dish on the specials, fried rice dish and their nigiri tasting. Everything was delicious. I've come to la mar three times now as it has opened up. Every time the food is amazing. The grilled whole fish- wow! the cebiches-wow! the tuna tacos la mar in wonton wraps- wow (my favorite!) The price is steep and the portions are small, but the food quality is very high and their sauces are rich in flavor. It is amazing food at the end of the day. No complaints. Our party of 4 had a bill of $500. It is dimly lit, spacious, and there is lots of chatter in the restaurant. My biggest gripe with this restaurant is their service (or lack of service...). For the ambiance and food and price we are paying I would expected our waiters to check in on us. Rather, our grilled whole fish came almost an hour after our appetizers came and dishes came in 30 minutes at a time. I get that they are a very busy restaurant, but I've had this experience all three times I've been here. The most recent time I've been there, we had to cancel one of our dishes since it took so long. Not to mention we had to flag down our waiter to get the bill. It is a bit hectic, understaffed, and since there is a lot of chatter in the restaurant it's hard to grab our waiters attention. We then had empanadas which tasted really homemade, similar green sauce to the chips. We had arroz con Pato (rice with duck) which I really liked. The best way to eat it is to mash the duck into the rice, and eat it all together. We moved onto the halibut tail, expertly cooked in a delicious sauce We ended with a little piece of chocolate cake for my birthday, and a dulce de Leche cake with little pieces of meringue on it. But that sauce is literally everything. I'd drink that straight up. Pulpo Anticuchero (grilled octopus appetizer) was so beautiful and also delicious. The octopus was cooked perfectly, and paired so nicely with the sauce. Tomatoes were delightful as well. The only not so positive thing about this dish for me was that the dollops of cherry sauce didn't add much dimension to the dish. Achupado (pasta) was the lowlight for us. After eating such wow worthy appetizers, the pasta let us down. Don't get me wrong -- the sauce was gloriously creamy and yummy, the bits of fish and scallops were delicious. But it was definitely not worth the $50 price. The pasta was slightly too overcooked for our liking. And they only gave one scallop?? For drinks, I got the chicha morada. Dinner here was nostalgic and we were transported back to Peru. If you're a fan of Peruvian Nikkei cuisine, this place is a definite MUST. Everything was so damn delicious! Best if you go with a group and share family style so you can indulge in a bunch of stuff. It was almost embarrassing how quickly we inhaled our food. We didn't want them to clear the plates because we wanted to lick clean the sauces, lol. All of the seafood is really fresh and perfectly-cooked (or not cooked in some instances) and the flavors were delicious. Excited to see that La Mar opened a location in Bellevue after enjoying their location in SF. The food still hits but service and atmosphere was a bit lacking. All the dishes we ordered were delicious and flavorful but noticed that flavors and ingredients were similar across dishes (e.g., hominy in every dish, similar sauces). Service started off a little slow and trended to even slower towards the end of our meal. The wait staff wasn't as attentive especially when our group wanted to order more drinks and water through the dinner. Atmosphere was lively and a bit loud. The location and its windows are directly impacted by the sun. Wish they had better blinds as it was really awkward needed to shift around as the sun was setting. Fancy as hell, both in the food quality and the price. I came here with a friend at around 5:45pm on a Sunday to an area that resembles fine-dining at its peak; there's a bar section in the middle of the restaurant, there's booth and round table seating with fake candles in the middle of each one, and the whole place is dimly lit, which contrasted with the sunny weather outside. This was my first time here so my friend showed me what he recommended on the menu and I got those with him. For drinks I got the chicha morada and my friend got the Sammamish spritz. My chica morada had some spices according to the menu, and that was the first thing i tasted when drinking it. It was a nicely sweetened drink, and I definitely wanted a lot more of it. For dishes, we got two things: - The cebiche tasting had several of their raw fish selections in small appetizer portions each. My most favorite was probably the nikkei (ahi tuna, Japanese cucumber, etc.) portion because it packed a ton of delicious flavor, and its taste profile was more memorable. The apaltado (pacific halibut, capers, etc.) and clasico (local halibut, red onion, etc.) were also part of this dish, and they were both just as good as well. - The aeropuerto viejo is a fried-wok rice with duck confit, scallop omelets and crab nikkei sauce. We even got to watch our server stir the whole thing together. The rice is fresh and filling, and had a mild briny taste to it. I was pretty satisfied with this one since I love fried rice. I probably wouldn't come here very often as the prices for dishes here are hefty, but would be down to come here for big celebrations or if another one of my friends recommends something else from here. read more

We went to celebrate my mum's birthday lunch and were so impressed by the food, ambience, and service. It was all amazing. Parking was easy and they validated. I loved the vibrant blues and airy feel of the restaurant with light shining in. The maitre d was friendly explaining their cuisine being a mix of Japanese, Italian, and Spanish food and our server was so prompt and friendly. The dishes we had were wonderful--starting with the cebiche---all fresh fish and and tangy lime marinades. Clientele included couples and what looked like several smaller post work business groups. The food: I forgot to photograph the ceviche and the causa chicken salad -- but they were both really good and really healthy portions for a happy hour appetizer. However, the chef's last bite (not pictured) which was two small pieces of chocolate was not good. Definitely not the last taste I wanted after the meal. Me and my dad popped in after work for a quick dinner and walked out genuinely impressed. The host up front was warm and had us seated in the lounge right away. We were starving, so we went big on starters: three apps to test the kitchen. Nothing disappointed. The crispy octopus lived up to its name--light, crackly exterior, not oily, flavors subtle and clean. The surprise favorite was the veal heart skewers--super tender with zero gaminess; we both did a double-take after the first bite. For mains, we shared two Spanish fried rice dishes. Both were rich but well balanced--comforting without being heavy--and honestly good enough to plan a return trip around. Drinks were solid, and our server was the right kind of attentive: checked in at good moments, kept waters topped, and read the table well. My only gripe is the price. Definitely a restaurant by a chef. 1, The food was nothing short of excellent. We were two and had two of the trios, which were the ceviche trio and the montado trio. Then the duck rice and the seafood rice, with dessert to go and drinks. Each plate was an explosion of well coordinated flavors and a presentation to delight the eyes. 2. The drinks were also interesting. My husband had an eggwhite based cocktai, which was punchy on the alcohol and yet well balanced. We had the rum chocolate cake to go, because we were already stuffed, but since everything else had been great, we assumed dessert would be good. It's clear that the staff was very well trained and knew what they were doing. Each person was well aware of their section and timed the food with a high degree of precision. I have only seen this at some of the more expensive Michelin starred restaurants. 4. Decor, showcased a good balance between elegant and casual, with vibrant colors subdued by more neutral tones. We were sat in the more lounge area, which was perfectly situated to see the bar and the cold and hot kitchen prep areas. I wish we enjoyed our experience more. Top of mind was how rushed we were. Four people sharing a 3 course meal and we were out the door in 75 minutes. For example, one of us was still eating their meal when the waiter asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. He brought the dessert menus, passed them out and made recommendations - while my friend was still eating his main. As a matter of fact, the dessert was brought to the table while he was trying to enjoy his last bites. Talk about bring rushed. In general, dishes were cleared very quickly, and often as we were finishing. About that dessert though. The Tres Leches cake was fabulous. The best thing we ate. Wonderful textures and flavors, I was sorry we shared it amongst the 4 of us (though rich enough for a few bites to satisfy). We had a lot explained to us, very quickly. As we were taken to our table we were paused for an explanation of the cuisine. The waiter did a lot of explaining as well. While helpful to learn about a cuisine you aren't very familiar with, saying less and talking a bit slower would be helpful. We shared the ceviche sampler. Interesting flavors from one to the other. Small portions, one bite per person of each. Lots of red onion, not very much fish. I really enjoyed the interesting corn in these dishes (as well as the unique types of corn throughout the meal). We also tried the squid ink tempura. We didn't realize it would be balls of crab and chicken ground together, and the balls had the tempura coating. Reminded me of dumpling filling. The aioli-type sauce made them tasty. We wouldn't order them again. We shared the Planchaza La Mar and thought it was an impressive plate. The hailbut was seasoned particularly well. The shrimp were good sized. The potatoes were crispy and delicious. The octopus was tough and chewy. The corn might have been the best part of the plate after the halibut. The waiter suggested we order one of the rice dishes to eat with it, so we ordered the Arroz con Pato. It tasted like a rice casserole, and was very creamy. With the duck mixed in, it was somewhat lost. The pops of corn kernels were a highlight in this dish. However, no relationship with this dish to the other. The chips and salsa served when you sit are welcome (though only the taro chips were crisp). There is plenty of parking, but it's a long walk outside and around the building to get to the entrance. Pulpo Anticuchero - I've never had octopus this tender before! Absolutely delicious. Chaufa Aeropuerto - Think fried rice, but next level--deep, complex flavors. Lomo Saltado - The beef was incredibly tender, practically melting in your mouth. Tres Leches de Coco - Do NOT leave without trying this! Overall: definitely worth trying. Seafood quality is amazing, but generally an amazing date night location. No debate on rating: if you love seafood and you can splurge a bit, you need to be here! The missus got a same-week reservation for Friday, February 7th, at 6:15pm. We arrived on time and were seated within 10 minutes or so - it was PACKED in here, as expected of a new high-end Peruvian restaurant opening in Bellevue. Apparently this is a chain from SF. It's pisco month, so they donate the profits to a culinary school in Peru, where their pastry chef graduated from. I'm ordering a lychee sour ($18), which is a drink with pisco (alcohol) in it. Pisco is a no-water-added alcohol, which can take up to 16lbs of grapes to make 75ml of the raw material that creates pisco alcohol. The missus is ordering a spirit free cocktail - the chicha morada ($12). Both drinks were excellent - I was much more drawn to the lychee sour because it reminded me of the taste of pulque but texture of a whiskey sour (without the bitterness). Inner decor is very high end - the staff always seem to be running around doing something - moving food, drink, or people around quickly. Food comments: the missus emphasized that this fish quality was impressive, and I agree. She mentioned many Peruvian chefs are world-renowned - and this restaurant exemplifies that train of thought. For apps, we ordered: (with commentary) - Cebiche tasting ($56): acidic (left and right), but all tasty. Corn was the underrated dark horse best part. The Nikkei was my favourite, the missus thought the clasico was her least fav but she didn't have a fav. - Tiraditos criollo ($26): this showed up 2nd. Every bite of this was better than the last - I'm glad I didn't order the trio, this was easily incredible on its own! - Piqueos - Veal heart anticuchos criollo ($27): wow, the veal was perfect, and the corn is still amazing! The sauces really give it an extra "pop" of flavour. They give you two skewers and two off-skewer fried pieces of veal heart. For main dishes, the missus ordered arroz con mariscos ($42) on recommendation from the bartender, and I ordered the Lomo Saltado ($44). Both were incredible for their own reasons; the rice in the seafood dish was sooooo good - the meat in the saltado was heavenly. We were so full we had to pack about 1/4 to 1/3 of each main dish (too much food for two people). We heard the tres leches was INCREDIBLE, so we obviously saved room for that (the picarones did look like a good runner up option though). Yep. It's worth ordering. Stop reading this and order it RIGHT NOW. I also ordered the passion fruit pisco sour after I finished the lychee sour. I liked the passion fruit more than the lychee, but my palate tends to prefer sweeter flavours. The service is awesome - they describe the dishes to you, and space out the "orders" so you don't get overwhelmed, especially since the plates are kinda large, and we're seated at the bar. Btw - bar or table - this place is a vibe. They also change out your personal plate / cutlery after every "round" (at the bar at least) - so you never mix flavours or have 'leftover' flavours from past cutlery. I'm sure it's a lot of cutlery and dishes used, but I'm grateful - this place is definitely high end. Total was $335 USD after tax and tip (2 adults) The ambience is a decently loud soundtrack, but the noise of the packed house drowns out the background music, for the most part. Parking is in the alleyway behind the restaurant, in the Amazon building (Dynamo?). It's pricey, but it's right underneath the restaurant. Hard to beat the location. The restaurant will validate parking - so make sure you print the receipt to get it validated! read more

ABSOLUTELY WOW-ED by this place, this dining journey is exquisite from start to finish. Very spacious, airy ambiance with a seafood area, and a cooking area. Any place you sit, you feel like you're about to experience something else, and that is no exaggeration. Our server was quite impressive, as if they had to be very weill trained and memorized to be able to hit the floor, and she spoke so eloquently and explanatory regarding the dishes I was heavily impressed... They change your plates and cutlery with every course. Drinks were nice. (non-alcoholic). The ceviche classico, the causa, and the veal heart (medium) was too die for. Worth every penny. I did regret going for the aeropurto over the saltado but next time! read more
