This place has a great and fresh selection of pan dulce. It's always busy and has a high turnover, unlike some of the other local places. I love love love their tamales over all else. My favorite thing to do is come in and grab a dozen of the green chili and cheese tamales with a large champurrado, so so good. This combo always hits the spot, especially on a cold morning. Plus the large champurrado is enough to share between two of us, it works out well. Their other tamale flavors are good too, but their green chili is the best. This was always the go to place for fresh homemade tamales. They always tasted as close as possible to grandmas. However, today I went in and the price increased and the quality was not the sam. The size has significantly decreased and the flavor was off. It almost had a burnt chili flavor for the red beef. I also bit into a bone for the red pork. Please don't fix what isn't broke. Change back to the chef who was consistent with the size and flavor otherwise you will lose customers. read more

Update 12/22/18: PayPal approved my dispute and the transaction is closed. I will receive a refund shortly. This still doesn't put the tamales I ordered in my family's stomach. To ensure I was not mistaken when I purchased the tamales, I went back to La Moderna's website to see if their claim of not holding onto orders past the selected date and time was posted on their site. On the contrary, the only warning listed is "Orders only guarantee tamales not your place in line." False. I was apparently guaranteed nothing. Screenshot of that and my PayPal transaction being closed added to this review. Bottom line: My order was paid for in full and you sold it anyway. I may not return but I know you have a loyal fan base; do better for them. No one deserves to have their Christmas meal ruined like this. Remember that when you're with your loved ones on Christmas. Do not shop here. The "manager" is rude and disrespectful. She insulted my wife today and I have lost all respect for this business. Shame on you for your horrible attitude. Your business is not clear on your answering machine message when an individual has not ordered tamales On Line . Therefore, leaving customers like myself confused. So my family used to come here for pan dulce, menudo, carnitas and tamales when the original people owned it. Customer service was great and the elderly couple were sweet and humble. Now I think the second generation is running the bakery and the older woman who runs the counter has the worst customer service I've ever encountered at a Mexican owned bakery. I have a new tamale place!! The tamales are delicious, you can smell the yummyness as soon as you walk in!!! You can smell the delicious bakery breads that are made fresh, you can also smell the tamales, carnitas, menudo, and all the other delicious foods made there!! Ordered tamales for the holidays and the tamales are RAW!!! Masa isn't cooked and with a fork you can spread the masa like cement. We love this place have come here for years but since the son took over the level of service from him is trash. He's super rude, totally disrespectful it's completely unnecessary. All the other workers there are amazing . Went to pick up our order used the online app to place it never received the confirmation email went on the date to pick up was told I had been scheduled for a previous date. The line can be very long especially after the morning after a pay per view fight. Don't forget the homemade salsa which is complimentary when you purchase a pound of carnitas. This was my third time placing an order with them for one of our company events. Great bread at a good price (our employees love their bread). Customer service was very good, placed my order on the phone and came the same day to put down the deposit. The employees helped load my order into my car when I came to pick up. This place has been here since before I was born. I'm 34 LOL. My mom and I used to walk here a couple times a week for the sweet bread (pan dulce) and some chicharonne. They've always been delicious, and they still are! I live out in corona now, but whenever I visit my parent's house in Whittier, I stop by and purchase about 3 brown bags full of sweet bread for my parents and myself, and it's about 15 bucks. When I first arrived, I thought this place was closed. There were bars on the windows and doors. However, there also was a door to the right. It was half covered by the sign they had hanging. I didn't come here for the bakery, but for the tamales. I got red pork, green pork, and green with cheese. Everything was so good! They are not stingy with the meats in the tamales either. Some places have more masa than meats in them. It wasn't overly dry or mushy and it's a good size. The price is great too considering inflation.
