If you're a gringo do NOT go here. It's my favorite local Mexican and coming from California that's saying a lot because there's nothing in Vegas that compares, and I always tell people to come here but I'm going to stop. I had the worst experience tonight (not the first time but I have to speak out about it now), I came in after driving in from LA for a very quick TO GO pick up that ended up taking an hour. No one speaks English and that's cool, I get it, which is why I said in Spanish I want the enchiladas Roja. She pointed at the Suiza in the menu and I said no red, Roja. I also want to double beans and no rice. So she repeated it back and and said all rice no beans, I'm like no Solamente frijoles. I guess between the language barrier and the loudness in there it's impossible to get an order through. I got a beer while I was waiting, no one asked what size I wanted and they gave me a gigantic one which I figured I would have to really guzzle because it was so large. No one offered chips and salsa so I had to ask. As it turned out I waited 35 minutes and finally asked where my food was in a few minutes later someone brings out a box of absolutely cold food with enchiladas suiza! I told her no and tried to explain red Roja red red. She said she'd get the manager. So the manager comes and I tell him I've been waiting over 30 minutes and I told her several times I wanted red he said OK I'll fix it. Not too long later I get a new order with something that doesn't look anything like their normal red enchiladas but I was so over it I didn't give a shit and I took it. IT WAS COLD! The cheese wasn't even melted at all, it like solid and cold and my double beans was barely even equal to one serving of the first one they brought me (one portion leaked into the other compartment and this is all I got) does this resemble an enchilada? To top it off, almost as if they knew me personally and wanted to piss me off, the topping is like some type of ceviche with crab in it and there's nothing I hate more on the planet than shellfish. Why would you put that on an enchilada anyway ? They didn't bother to apologize or do something nice like comp my beer. I say don't go if you're a gringo because the only person that speaks English in the whole place is the manager and everyone around me was being treated like kings and queens while I sat there unattended and ended up spending $30 on something I didn't even want that took an hour to get. I not a Mexican food foodie but this restaurant far exceeded my expectations. I just left a ladies lunch with approx 125 ladies. Wow !!! What a performance !! Between the mariachi band that was fantastic and the servers trying to get every person served in a timely manner, I give total kudos to management for getting it all organized !! The decor is straight out of Mexico...so vibrant and inviting. The food was outstanding. We were on a fixed menu so my choices were shrimp ceviche, birria tacos and flan for dessert. The Camarones Zarandeados are the most delicious thing I've had in a long time , from anywhere .. I've been here 5 times in the last month for them . $40/$50 ... but worth every penny. We ask for food and my husband is a tortilla guy so, he ask for an extra order of them. Ask me if they brought them, NO. Second time patronizing this establishment! Before 5 pm the restaurant is bustlingly busy! It was a Saturday evening but still very impressive. The vibe is very festive even with live music! Services were very good! Servers were attentive and friendly. This time we learned not to over order. 2 of us share one shareable. We could not even finish! They do give you large portions. Chips and dipping sauce is very tasty. The combination dish we ordered served in a hot lava stone bowl with pork, steak, sausages, shrimps, cactus and other veggies in a slightly tangy and spicy sauce. Very delicious. It also came with 2 plates of very tasty rice and beans. The only thing I wished was the steak could be cooked a little tender. Their menu is enormously large! Overall it's great value and my family has decided this is our go to Mexican restaurant from now on. We are looking forward to try their other dishes. I'm truly torn on giving this restaurant three stars, because when it's good... it's GOOD. But when it's not... well... La Mojarra Loca is a bustling, lively, and overall fun spot! Your best bet is a weekday visit just after rush hour. That said, even when the place is packed, the staff is consistently efficient, kind, and clearly working hard. Now, the food... This is where my internal debate begins. This is usually my go to spot for bringing friends and family when they visit Vegas. Unfortunately, the last few visits have involved spending way too much money for food that didn't quite live up to the hype. The biggest issue here is consistency. It's truly hit or miss. Some days, the meats are juicy, tender, and cooked to absolute perfection. Other days, they're tough, dry, and giving "sandpaper chic." On a good day, this place is easily a five star experience. Lately though, over the past year it's been landing more firmly in three star zone. Karen was my server and she was very sweet and attentive. Being a coffee lover decided to get myself in cafe de olla, to get my morning started right. She recommended the empanadas and I went with them as a light starter. As my entre, I chose the Birria Sopes and they were incredible.
