La Nonna came highly recommended from a few Philly friends, so being the newbie to town I had to stop in for some homemade pasta! I was meeting a friend on South St. to check out another nearby bar, so this was the perfect meet up spot. The service was friendly and we were quickly seated without a reservation during a Thursday dinner slot. We heard about the specials and I had to try the blood orange Italian soda as a refreshment. I had the lingine and clams with lump crab meat which was spectacular. The noodles were so light and the sauce was perfectly flavored and also had a light touch to it. We also shared the lemon cake which was the perfect sweetness level and a solid ending to our meal. The homemade ciabatta bread and pickled veggies served as another great appetizer touch. I want to come back for more of their menu soon!

Delicious! Beautifully decor cozy decor. Friendly staff. This is a BYOB restaurant if that's important to you and CASH only or Venmo. We tried the smoked mozzarella special and the calamari appetizers. Spot on. Our party of 4 had various pasta dishes which all contained in house made pasta and were plentiful and delicious. We would definitely return. Enjoyable evening out.

A top spot for Italian in the city. Excellent Service. Haven't eaten anything with meat here, but the pasta doesn't miss. And I've tried almost every dish here. And it's BYOB. Can get busy. I'd advise on reservations.

BYOB! Location: 2nd and South Street - Plenty of street parking available. Inside/Decor: The space is small and intimate. You might have to squeeze past tables, but it adds to the cozy vibe. Service: The service was excellent! I visited on a Friday night, so it took a little longer to be seated and take our order, but the staff was friendly and attentive. Food: Generous portions! Most entrees can easily be shared between two people, so keep that in mind when ordering. Food Breakdown: APPS: -Burrata: I enjoyed this appetizer. The portion was great, and the cheese tasted fresh. -Roman Artichokes: These are perfect if you enjoy a tangy sauce. I liked them a lot. PASTA: -Linguine Shrimp Fra Diavolo: I highly recommend this. The shrimp were jumbo, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce was just right. My only wish is that they had sprinkled some Parmigiano Reggiano on top. -Eggplant Parmesan: This was nothing special. We ordered it because the one we initially wanted wasn't available, so it didn't stand out much. DESSERT: -Panna Cotta: The thickest panna cotta I've ever had. I'm not usually a fan of panna cotta, so I can't judge it too harshly, but it was rich and creamy. 7.9/10

Easily one of the loveliest restaurant experience I have had in Philly. This place is small, cozy, feels like family business. The appetizers were all spectacular - burrata, caesar salad and calamari with marinara sauce are all delicious. We ordered so much appetizers that we are actually half full when the pasta came out. I love my fettuccine bolognese, it came out piping hot and so flavorful. My bf loves his lasagna too. They are BYOB so bring a bottle of wine! The staffs are very pleasant and attentive. We were too full to try desserts but they have tiramisu and panna cotta. Would def come back here.

Loved the food and service was great. We got burrata and calamari for appetizers. Both excellent. The linguini with crab and shrimp was my favorite. The eggplant parmigiana was also very yummy. Also got the gnocchi bolognese and shrimp fra diablo also very tasty. I would give 5 stars if the focaccia bread was served warm and soft. Maybe just my preference though.

Cancel your flight to Italy and come here instead!!!! What a gem in the city. First of all, the atmosphere is so romantic and the lighting, decor, and music makes you feel like you just transported to Italy. The food was phenomenal. Every dish was mouth watering and even though i'm so full, i'm still thinking about how soon i can eat my leftovers. The gnocchi bolognese was the best dish by far, the chicken parm being right behind it with their rich marina sauce. The ricotta gnocchi in pink sauce with shrimp was extremely dense and in my opinion is better to share since it's so heavy but the blush sauce was heavenly and had me taking a spoon to it. The caesar salad was a little anchovy heavy for my liking but it was still good. I will definitely be back.

Where do I begin with this absolute gem!! Everything about La Nonna was on point. Appetizers and entrees were delicious. The burrata was tasty and perfect for sharing. The bolognese had one of the best sauces i've ever tried, perfect balance of tangy with strong hits of fresh tomato. And the portions?!? Insane for the price. This might have been the first time I left an italian spot in philly with a takeout box! The service was honestly one of the absolute best i've seen. Our server was incredibly sweet and attentive!! The space is also beautiful, very cozy and decorated creatively. I cannot wait to come back and try more dishes!

Overall I was not impressed. The place looks great - the staff very nice - the food was good but nothing that would have me returning soon. The complimentary pickled string beans with cheese to sprinkle on top was good as was the Artichoke appetizer. The entrees (Eggplant involtini, Eggplant Parmigiana and the Special Gnocchi with Shrimp) all looked great but for me weren't really anything special. Byo - cash or Venmo.

Really lovely quiet dinner before a show. Service was quick and friendly, with delicious dishes all around. Short rib risotto did not disappoint, will definitely come by again when we're in the neighborhood.

Our dinner at this lil Italian spot La Nonna was great. The space is cute and well decorated, it's great for a night out. Our service was friendly and the food came out fast. The food was great and a nice portion. I got lasagna, its meat sauce was really good. The lasagna was layered well. My date got gnocchis and said the texture of the noodles were perfect. 4/5 sfor the food. Depending on what time you come the place can fill up so make sure you have a reservation. If you do just walk-in it needs to be right when the restaurant opens. We had tried to walk in in the past and couldn't get a table. This place is BYOB, they only take cash or Venmo.

They had a mix of indoor and outdoor seating with very vibrant blue and yellow decor throughout the restaurant and in the plating as well. Our server was very helpful and made small talk with us throughout ordering and checking in. Lavender Arnold Palmer and Cucumber Mojito - Started out with two drinks. Both were very refreshing and light which helped cut through the heavier dishes we were eating. Calamari Alla Griglia - I love grilled calamari but this portion wasn't too big. It was soft and had a nice chewy texture. It had a strong peppery, grilled taste and leaned more on the sour side even without the lemon added. Linguine Diavolo - This was spicier than I expected but the tomato sauce had depth and flavor. It was piping hot and the pasta had a great texture. I do wish they had more shrimp in the dish as the ratio was a bit off. My sister ordered the lamb rack which came with creamy mashed potatoes and a nice pesto sauce. A great place for a fancier meal and take a walk to the waterfront with some pretty views.

Ahhh, how the city of Philadelphia's food scene continues to be extremely disappointing for me…read more There has not been one restaurant that I've tried where the food and/or combination with the experience has been a good once. I made a review recently on how I very much disliked Fitz on 4th and my anxiety was ramping up seeing this restaurant was barely two blocks away The food had no flavor and was extremely bland. I have never been in a restaurant and asked for the salt and pepper shakers (unless it's for eggs lol) and unfortunately that didn't help much at all here. The branzino dish was plated nicely, but had zero flavor. The orzo and corn was giving just got this box of orzo from Trader Joe's and threw some canned corn in the mix. Branzino? Very plain. The Cacio e pepe was also....flavorless. I love cacio e pepe and I was between that and the branzino at first, but knew if the if the sauce wasn't balanced perfectly between cheese and pepper, it would ruin the dish. We opted to have chicken added and as you can tell, it doesn't look like there was any chicken at all. It was a let down from the first bite of both dishes, for both my partner and I. Chicken liver mousse is one of my absolute favorite things ever, since a kid. Generally, I'm given a small pot/portion of the mousse to spread on a cracker or piece of bread myself. Here, they do things a little differently. They spread it on some bread topped with cherry agrodolce and pistachios. I thought this dish was pretty neat. My fav thing was although the bread was baked and crunchy on the exterior the middle was very soft and I thought this was a perfect balance. But, the skimped out of the chicken mousse and barely put any on the bread, especially the first piece of bread in the pic. The wine was nice, but it was not poured it front of us and I have zero clue what it is. We asked for something most similar to Merlot. Wouldn't try this place again & didn't think it was worth the cost. Side note, there's a surcharge for paying with a card AND they are currently participating in restaurant week.
