    Huge Chimichanga

I've tried this place a couple times before but it's been quite some time. Met our friends for lunch, we sat outside. The service was excellent. Server was very attentive and informative. Have some ice cold beers and chavelas. I've had the cheese shell tacos before from which I remember they were really good. This time we had the fajita trio so flavorful so tender everything was cooked to perfection, and it was very filling! My friend had the chimichanga which she said was also delicious. I love sitting out in Palm Springs and people watching especially on a day that isn't over 100. I will definitely be back.

Salty, subpar service, and unexpectedly charged for chips and salsa. Not sure if we went on an off day. It was our first time and we came around 1pm on a Monday. No wait and we were seated right away. The waitress asked if we wanted chips and salsa as we were seated, before being given any menus, and we said yes. The chips and salsa came with the menus and water then we started looking over the menu. First impressions: 1. Water was given in a glass shareable bottle with two plastic cups as small as shot cups. Cheap looking. 2. I wasn't paying attention much to people's attitudes, but my partner said it seemed like the waitress didn't want to be there. 3. Prices were pretty steep but the restaurant had really good reviews, so we still gave it a shot. We ordered a wet burrito and the surf and turf chimichanga. When the food came, the burrito was not wet and the chimichanga was covered with red sauce. When we stated that the burrito was ordered as wet, they took both plates back. Then they gave it back to us. The chimichangas had red sauce on top and I called a waitress to ask about the green sauce since the menu said it was topped with red and green sauce. She said no, it isn't. And I said, the menu said it is. She said no, the menu said red sauce. And I read the menu from my phone verbatim, that it's covered in red and green sauce. She grabbed a menu and read it, and then realized I was right. She then brought the green enchilada sauce. We then noticed that there was only one knife between the two of our plates. But no one checked on us after. So we just shared a knife, no big deal. Just inconvenient. But again, no one checked on us after the food came. There were two waitresses and 5 tables of groups of 2-6 people. The food: SO SALTY. The rice, beans, chimichanga, and burrito were all salty. The beans were not edible. Rice was barely edible. And I had 4 bites of the chimichanga but each bite I had to add the side salad to it to make it less salty. My partner said at first the burrito wasn't salty, but about 1/4 in he said it was also really salty and couldn't keep eating. Finally, after we stopped eating and sat for a few minutes, someone finally checked in. We just asked for boxes and the check. The chips and salsa were NOT complimentary. They weren't expensive. BUT it's the principle. Don't OFFER chips and salsa as we get seated, before we get a chance to see the menu, as if they were free. It was so weird. For the price, this was absolutely NOT worth it. Again, not sure if we came in on an off day. But for almost $80 two people, I would expect water to not be in a plastic shot cup, better service, and edible food.

April 2026 - dinner service Don't have a reservation or wait too long at Tac/Quila or some of the other fancy haunts in downtown Palm Springs? Don't sweat and walk down 5 mins to La Bonita's Family owned, super salsa's and start with the simple but fresh guacamole and chips Next try their tacos ! We had the fried fish tacos and the shrimp quesadillas Their hidden talent is in the refried beans and Spanish rice Taste on point - Muy Bueno ! We will be back !

Food was really good but overpriced for what it is. You can get this same meal at many other places for a fraction of the price. Chips and salsa was $6, that should be free. Water is served in cheap disposable plastic cups, tacky for what you're paying to dine here. Open air concept so it's pretty hot in here unless you sit in the back maybe. Service wasn't great. We waited a really long time for our check and the server wasn't the nicest.

Causal indoor and out dining with friends or family in a cozy yet spacious floor layout. Bright yellow with a perfect amount of light creates a warm welcoming, along with polite amiable wait staff. The carne asada tacos with rice and beans were a bit bland, the salsa on the side added some flavor. Attention was called to wait staff that the starter chips and salsa we ordered was never brought to our table and it was promptly removed from our check. The service at La Bonita's is what would bring me back. A good size shrimp burrito also lacked in flavor,so, pour on the salsa we did.

Sigh, every time I come to Palm Springs I expect inflated reviews and this place is no different. Had high hopes in downtown Palm Springs as there was a taco spot in every corner, and La Bonita's has a 4.5 star average with thousands of reviews. Sadly... everything was disappointing. Our tortillas were so soggy that it couldn't even hold the filling and I ended up eating the remnants of my tacos with a fork. The filling wasn't good either, and nothing here tasted authentic. My kids tried their tacos made with flaming hot Cheetos and that was... different. The taco shell is made out of a blend of the hot Cheetos with your usual taco filling. It's ok the first couple bites, but gets old fast. Was greasy and heavy. Just temper expectations and know that this place doesn't live up to SoCal taco standards (especially if you're coming from LA/OC).

Happy hour at La Bonita's rocks! The carne asada fries at half price and a huge helping. Perfectly flavored meat. Fish tacos were outstanding. The place has a Baja California vibe. Service was excellent, fast and friendly.

Pricey for one plate, one drink and chips and salsa
    Ashley B.

The food itself tasted pretty good. The chips and salsa was decent, I liked the salsa. I ordered a house ice tea and it was the right kind lol was refreshing and came in a chilled glass. My husband drank water which is presented in a small plastic cup like the kind for mouth wash. The silverware was very light and seemed like the came from the dollar store years ago. As well as the "steak knife" that that was was light as a feather and obviously worn out. The tables have wood benches and aren't comfortable, extra bad if you are wearing a skirt like I was. The cook/ chef had a warm energy and actually good customer service. We ordered the carne asada chimichanga with intentions to split (we wanted to try on thing first before ordering more... While waiting we saw a lot, workers coming up from the back looked a bit sketchy. The place has a very negative vibe overall, one small nasty bathroom - the host was also the server and she was okay but not very nice. The music was really loud and obnoxious. When I declined drinks she kept trying to sell me virgin ones when I told her I didn't feel good. Kind of rude overall

We blindly tried this place for dinner and it was really good. The ambiance is great, right in downtown town Palm Springs with the view of the 111 action, streetside outside seating (very quaint) and the staff is great. Everyone's friendly and helpful. We got our food in a timely manner. We had to order the chips & salsa which was weird but it was delicious, the guacamole was also delicious. Maybe it's a sign of the times and the economy - but we didn't mind we just asked for it and it came right away thankfully. I got the green enchilada combo and hubby got the crispy carne asada tacos. Everything was fresh and tasty. Also the restroom was clean and smelled good. This place is a hidden gem we will definitely be back! Thank you!

The grilled chicken and sautéed veggies part of the fajita order

At the Palm Springs Film Festival and needed a fairly quick dinner between movies. La Bonita's is pretty close (about a 5 minute drive). We got lucky and got a spot right in front. The restaurant is fairly small (I think there are probably less than 10 tables inside with a few more outside). Soon after we sat down, Ozzy came by with menus and glasses of water. Service was attentive throughout. My wife and I shared the chicken fajitas ($26). We were able to see the chef make the order in the open kitchen near our table. Fairly generous portion size with a good amount of grilled chicken and the usual sautéed veggies, rice, beans, pickled onions, and shredded cabbage. Good service, very casual ambiance, and good food.

This is an interesting restaurant as the prices are off the charts expensive! So expensive but you don't even wanna order a drink that's not water and if you do order water watch out there's a charge on that too. We always forget in our city that there are certain places that compete for your business however, this is one of many Mexican restaurants along the street so look at the prices of other places before posting up here they are kind but unforgiving the price height we would've ordered more but our bill for breakfast was already $90.

Close up of the cheese shell tacos
    Jeff C.

A friend wanted tacos and I saw the great reviews so we stopped in. Definitely a casual and divey kind of atmosphere but the service was friendly and they got our order quickly. They have a nice menu selection but I opted for beef cheese shell tacos as I thought the cheese shell was unique. The cheese shell is exactly that- grilled/baked (?) cheese formed into a crunchy shell with all the regular toppings inside. As a result, it was super cheesy! All in all, a bit too cheesy for me but definitely something unique to try. Would definitely stop in again if I'm in town!

Delicious authentic food. Some of the best carne asada ever with a punch of spice and garlic. Fries were crispy and plenty of toppings. Amazing refrained beans and Mexican rice. Simple but both were very well executed. Ask for their house spicy salsa. It has a nice smoke and a killer kick. Lovely service and family vibes.

Is the Flaming Hot Chito Flavor made from Cheetos? Do you do others as well? Like Takis or Doritos...

Good question, hot Cheeto tacos are made with cheese and Cheetos only. No tortilla. Yes, I’ve made these same tacos with all types of chips but not on menu. Just do them periodically as specials.

Yes we do. Give us a call for details. We provide a buffet style taco bar

This place hit the bar on all three of those pillars. We sat outside and a few of us ordered the margarita flight, while a few others ordered other cocktails. They were all really enjoyable and well balanced. We asked our server for his favorite thing on the menu and he suggested the steak plate and one other dish. The next person who came to our table also suggested the steak plate and ahi taco. 3-4 of us ended up ordering the steak plate, one ordered the quesabirria tacos. The elotes street corn was absolutely delicious. The sour cream on top just really sent it over the edge, the best I've ever had. Their flan was also exceptional. I'm not typically a fan of flan, but this one was really good. Top notch! Everyone absolutely loved their dish. The steak plate was absolutely wonderful. Steak was cooked to perfection, and the grilled onion was so good. The guacamole was flavorful, and it all went really nicely with the tortillas and other accoutrements. We had a great time and enjoyed amazing food. Highly, highly recommend. Pretty much all the girls agreed at the end of the weekend that this had been our favorite spot.

This review is more about the maintenance and conditions of the parklet seating area. My friends and I visited on a Sunday evening around 6:30pm. It wasn't peak season and it was about 100°F outside. Since we didn't have reservations, we were told we could only be seated in the outdoor parklet area. Another group of six arrived shortly after us and was visibly upset about the same situation and ultimately left, but we decided to stay and give it a try. Unfortunately, the parklet itself felt unsafe. My heel got stuck between the floorboards and several sections of the flooring were lifted. I nearly fell but caught myself by landing on an empty chair. The staff were very kind and helped me remove my shoe, which I appreciated. However, the outdoor setup made the dining experience very uncomfortable. We were constantly dealing with flies around our food, and no fans or coverings were provided to help with the heat or food exposure. Additionally there was a piece of hair on my friend's nachos. It was difficult to enjoy the meal in those conditions. As for the food, we ordered nachos and a carne asada plate with drinks, and while the food itself was good, the environment made it hard to enjoy it fully. The bill came out to nearly $150, and given the conditions, it felt disappointing. I would strongly recommend management: * Address the unsafe and uneven parklet flooring * Improve outdoor dining comfort (fans, pest control, etc.) * Allow indoor seating when space is available, especially in extreme heat The staff and food were great, but the dining environment needs attention to match the price point and quality of the kitchen.

Palm Springs has a night market that happens Thursday night from 6-10 where it brings out people. Food vendors, arts and crafts, gifts and so on. A nice family outing on the main strip. Also all the storefronts are open as well. The thing with something like that, you tend to stand or find a seat along the curb to sit with your food. Hence we finally walked into this restaurant. It was pretty busy when we walked in but at the right time. Got seated right away as there was only two tables available. By the time we were seated, the line was pretty long. It's just off the main strip. Pretty decent size patio which seems to be where everyone was utilizing it as it was nice out. There's a bar area with seating as well as indoor, a smaller room. Service was nice. Water and menu was brought out first then came the chips and salsas. Quite tasty but can be filling if you can't control yourself. Started off with their classic margaritas and the spicy margaritas. There's a few dollars difference from classic to spicy. They weren't that bad. Menu wise, a mixture of all your Mexican dishes. We didn't have any starters as we just wanted the mains. The carne asada plate which came with both rice and beans. I opted for only rice. Thin skirt steak with chorizo, grilled jalapeño and onion, flour or corn tortillas and salsa. And the chicken enchiladas verde with the green sauce. The food was quite tasty. Carne asada plate was pretty plentiful. Nice skirt steak with a nice piece of chorizo. Both were quite tasty and flavorful. Steak was decent and cooked well. Not overly done. We later realized we ordered multiple taco plates that should have qualified for the special, but she never said a word. The food was even worse. I ordered fajitas, and what I was served was completely unacceptable,no vegetables, no resemblance to fajitas, just chopped chicken covered in chorizo and tomato sauce. It was disgusting. I took one bite and couldn't eat it. I planned to send it back, but the waitress disappeared and never came back to the table. I was stuck with it and only ate the sides, which tasted like reheated frozen vegetables and a small cup of beans. Despite barely touching the food and not receiving what I ordered, I was still charged as if everything was fine, about $22 for a plate I couldn't eat. When I finally addressed it, she insisted it was "fajitas," which is honestly ridiculous. To top it off, when my husband asked for a box, the waitress came back after handling cash and used her bare hands, with long acrylic nails,to grab his taco and put it in the container. That is completely unsanitary and unacceptable. Bad service, disgusting food, and poor hygiene. I will not be returning and will be reporting this place to the health department. Avoid this place.
