My 12 year old daughter is a picky eater and Hector noticed she was straining her beans to add the juice to her rice. Without us asking, he delivered a small cup of bean gravy. Very nice that he noticed. The food was excellent, authentic, and seafood was very fresh and tasty. Bright and cheerful dining room atmosphere perfect for our family of four. Loved this place on a recent trip to Luquillo, PR. Situated at the end of the quaint kiosks next to the beautiful Monserrat beach. On Presidents Day the place was teeming with other tourists and locals interested in a wonderful meal. There was no short supply of wait staff and we were quickly situated and served 2 ice cold beverages. We sat on the porch closest to the beach and sure enough the tropical rain came on about mid dinner. Not to worry, the restaurant was quick to use their remote control awnings to prevent the rain coming in and just as soon as it stopped they were raised again. Slick! We got to enjoy the rest of the dinner in the starlit night. I had the seafood mofongo with creole sauce and my wife had the grouper filet in garlic. The seafood included large chunks of snapper, several shrimp, mussels and squid. The mofongo was the perfect compliment and the sauce was divine without drowning the rest of the dish. I added some local hot sauce to give it a kick (though it didn't need it). Chris' grouper was tasty with the perfect garlic zing. The sweetness of the plaintains on her plate was a nice contrast. We were both very satisfied if not a little full. We highly recommend La Parilla and will miss it back in Kansas City! read more

On our way back from the Bacardi factory we knew we needed something delicious. Being from California, we're used to greasy food after a day of drinking. I felt like Puerto Ricans would also understand that. Our cab driver led us to La Parilla. He said it's where he likes to go when he's in the mood for some great food. The first time we went I ordered the chicken mofongo and the bf ordered the grilled chicken with rice and beans. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and I ate way too much. Do I have regrets? NOPE. Of course we washed it all down with cold Medallas. No, it's not the greatest beer but it went perfect with the dish. Everything was so good that we knew we had to go back before we left Puerto Rico. On our second trip I ordered the steak mofongo and the bf ordered the seafood mofongo. Both dishes were great. I definitely feel like La Parilla provided us the Puerto Rican culinary experience. However, now that I'm reading other reviews I shoulda got the lobster. Anyway, the prices weren't that bad and the portions were huge. I'd say the prices are comparable to chains in SoCal but the quality was better than I'd get at any of those chains. I definitely recommend La Parilla. The best lobster i have ever had in my life. I thought, ok ok. market price for a 2 LB lobster, i am on vacation, so lets overpay. We ordered one - 2 lb lobster to share, and the conch salad. WOW. Local catch. they run out daily , so go early if you want to make sure you get it. Conch salad was fresh and non fishy. crisp and perfect. Then the lobster, they were nice enough to split it onto two plates and let us share. 1 lb per person was enough. the lobster was perfectly grilled. I had so much meat. We also had the quattro leches cake. WOW! So good too! All in I was around 70 bucks for a lunch.. but well worth every penny. read more

Where to start I always keep my review short and to the point. So here it is not very good food and way over priced $42.00 for a full rack of ribs come on. 4 of us went for dinner and beside having a water view there not much else. Service started out pretty good but once once you place order someone else delivered food and we never saw our server again. We had a couple of pork dishes which had a ton of fat in them and I did 1/2 rack of bbq ribs ($26.00) don't think anyone was impressed with there meal. Eat here!! We decided to stop in for a late lunch after a long morning of hiking in El Yunque & are so glad we did. I didn't catch our server's name, but he definitely made us feel welcome. Service was fast and friendly. My husband had an ice cold Medalla light & I had a traditional Mojito - both delicious. For an appetizer we had a half order of Sorullitos(corn sticks) and 1 beef Pastelillo to share - both delicious, especially with their mayoketchup sauce. My husband had the Mahi Mahi with Cilantro butter & I had the grouper filet stuffed with shrimp & potatoes. Close to Loquillo beach and rainforest. This is in kiosk #2. The tank of lobsters look great but paying $25 per pound of stuffed lobster is a little high for me. I went with the fried red snapper stuffed with shrimp in creole sauce; it was still $32. It was lightly fried. It was excellent! I got the plantains as a side which also was excellent. My wife got the pork stuffed with hamburger meat. She thought they were great. Pina Coladas and Mojitos were OK (a little pricey). Bean soup was very good (my wife had). I tried 3 single appetizers. The lobster was non-existent in the empidilla. For food taste 5 stars when added with pricing it lowers my overall rating to 4 stars. read more

Located among the kiosks at Luqillo Beach, La Parrilla is probably the most high-end restaurant on the strip. And probably also the one with the best view. So good local seafood and an ocean view, not too bad. I went with a conch mofongo (one of many that I had this trip) and thought it may have been one of the best. Seafood is obviously fresh, plantains perfectly sweet, and the mojitos nicely alcoholic. But for me, I'm there for the view. May not be the best ocean view in Puerto Rico, but I'm just one of those saps that can sit and listen to crashing waves and feel the ocean breeze on my face. In fact, take out the food and I'm still happy. Then why only 4-stars? It is a bit pricey. It is definitely marked up a bit for the tourists that swing by. But that is just the cost of doing business and I'm okay with it. read more

So we were in PR a couple of weeks ago for a long overdue vacation. Stayed in Luquillo and the kioscos were just a short distance from the condo we rented. Our first night we decided to try La Parilla based on some local recommendations. Of course vacation had started so we started off with a couple of mojitos. Man these were gooooood mojitos. Nice and strong and as my husband put it a little "dirty". We both picked out a lobster that was prepared for us in both a garlic butter and creole sauce. I had mofongo with mine and my hubby had beans and rice. WOW!!! So fresh and flavorful. We knew we had started our vacation right! We came to La Parilla on one of our last evenings in Luquillo. I ordered the tostones with langustas and the carne asada. My husband has this amazing stuffed pork tenderloin. We LOVED this place. It is VERY affordable and we loved every bite of it! read more

It's decent. My husband and I both had a mojito and shared an appetizer, which was mofongo with lobster in a tomato-y sauce. Like I said, it was decent. We had no problem getting it down. But after reading the great reviews here, we were expecting something outrageously good. The mojitos were made with mint that was starting to become sludgy. For those of you who cook or use fresh herbs, you know what I mean. Dark-colored and soft. Some of the leaves were perfect, others were... not. We followed another reviewer's lead and tried the Ay, Bonito kiosk (it was closed the day we hit La Parrilla), and it was waaaaaay better, from the drinks to the food. In all fairness, for my 4 star rating, they were really busy, the night we were there, which caused the slow service. They make a pineapple rice that is superb. And my daughter ordered the kid's wings and french fries, which was very flavorful and came with a "big eater" order of french fries! We also had the breaded shrimp, which had crisp, delicious, jumbo shrimp, which didn't need the bread coating. Going to Luquillo and making stops at kiosks is a must if you're staying at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar... everyone, including the locals, mention La Parrilla. The stuffed lobster was no joke. Best lobster I've had in a long time. It cost approx. 30 dollars a pound and you're not gonna find any 1 pounders... I know, cause I tried. They're all 2.5 pounds or more. So do the math. If you find it pricey... trust me it was all worth it. My GF ordered the mahi mahi... which was recommended to her by the waiter. He said it was fresh... but after taking a bite it was way too salty. This was the first restaurant we went to in all of Puerto Rico and we made the right decision. It's on the water (though a parking lot separates you from what would be an amazing view) and the they have live music and a great drink and food selection. Get the shrimp mofongo. Mofongo is the native dish and it tastes like Stove Top stuffing. They put a garlic cream sauce on it with shrimp and it is out of this world! If you like sweet drinks, get their house sangria. We were seated quickly & had cold beers within minutes. I knew I wanted lobster, but just grilled & plain- didn't see that on menu but our waiter Riky took care of me & I got EXACTLY what I was craving! We had dinner there. Hubby had the NY Strip teriyaki. Large portion, very tasty. Also the side penne pasta was great. I tried the conch salad. It was extremely bland. I told the server and he quickly took it and suggested the lobster bisque which was excellent. The kitchen tried out the conch and concurred that it was not prepared properly. Appreciate the quick remedy. Deqspite that, I would go back. I would just order something different. The stuffed grouper was delicious and the service was quick to please. I highly recommend the seafood.

I ordered a red snapper filled with shrimp in criolla sauce (tomato, onions and pepper). It looked good upon arrival but the taste was awful. The fish was so overcooked it was dry as hay and completely bland flavorless that not even salt would save it. The shrimp were rubbery and the sauce was a bad sugary mess. The tostones side dish were raw, bland, greasy and not crispy. I was offered to exchange my plate and had to wait over 25 minutes for my new plate that ended up being an equally bad and tasteless skirt steak. This is not only my opinion, no one in our table could stomach either one of my plates and only suggested I take the steak home to see if I could save it somehow. I can also confirm that their paella is so salty my mother couldn't finish it. To add insult to injury, they overcharged us for that second plate over twice the price listed on the menu, from $19 to $45 for the plate. When I asked the server about that he insisted that was the price and that the manager already knew about the situation. My husband decided to pay it anyways and we left to never go back. Terrible experience, they don't deserve even the 1 star. read more

The kiosks in Luquillo are an interesting concept. Several restaurants and bars all sandwiched together on a long strip of road that look pretty dinky from the outside but can be quite swanky on the inside. La Parrilla definitely looks better inside than it does outside, and the food fits the appearance. Service was pretty slow in all honesty. It took a good while for us to get seated but the owner came and apologized about it and was very friendly, which was much appreciated. We started off with the fried cheese and fried yucca appetizers and they were pretty great! The fried cheese came with a sweet dipping sauce that contrasted nicely with the slight saltiness of the cheese and the yucca fries were thick and came with a side of what appeared to be chipotle mayo. I also ordered a mojito which was pretty good I guess. I'm no connoisseur of cocktails but it tasted fresh and went down easily which I'm guessing is the aim of a cocktail. For the main course I had the mahi mahi. It was garnished with a butter sauce, some veggies and it had a slight crust on top. The dish tasted pretty great but the fish itself was somewhat dry and tough, sort of the opposite of what salmon is like. Perhaps I should have known better. It was also a pretty expensive dish, as were the other meals available. For dessert the cuatro leches cake totally hit the spot. Creamy, sweet and somewhat juicy. The owner said it won a prize! Overall a nice little spot in Luquillos that is a bit pricey and a bit slow, but still cheaper than our resort's restaurants. read more

This is an expensive little restaurant just off the beach. It came with rave reviews and were were looking forward to having dinner here. La Parrilla is described as having a wonderful view. Was it the view of the line of parked cars between the dining room and the ocean, was it the string of vendors interrupting the diners with their wares, or was it the traffic passing between the parked cars and the restaurant that they were talking about? It definitely wasn't the ocean, because we could barely see it. My sangria was wonderful and the food was good, although not as outstanding as the price warranted. I know that cooking a whole fish is a tradition in many countries, but having my dinner looking up at me didn't exactly add to my dining experience. A bit steep on the price, but well worth the experience, they took care of us, a party of 10 6 adults, 4 kids, I had the filet, was freakin awesome, my oldest son ate the mahi mahi, fried and baked, my wife had the snapper stuffed with lobster, the food was excellent, we really enjoyed the company we were with, which is odd considering, don't ask, the 4 leeches cake, okay, I could have eaten a whole one because it was sooo good. I had 1 piña colada, it was extremely good, they must use real and fresh coconuts. Came out here with my family and fiance not too long ago and the place was great! We were seated outside and the weather was nice, not too hot... not too humid... but kind of just right. The ocean was just on the other side of the road, granted it was at night so you couldn't see much, but you knew it was there :) They had a special going on that night for a 2 pound lobster with shrimp stuffed in the head with a salad and mofongo for a side. YUM! My parents shared that, my fiance had the chicken mofongo, my brother had the seafood mofongo, and I had the beef mofongo... do you see a theme here? LOL! Overall, the food was great. Although mine was a little salty, but I'm blaming it on the mushrooms that they put in there... or maybe the chef got overly excited with the salt :) The server was awesome and suggested a Four Milk Cake, similar to a Tres Leches, but with an extra milk :P It was awesome! It was creamy, not soggy, and not overly sweet! There was a rowdy bunch at the venue, drunk, and talking to EVERYONE, but you could probably get there everywhere :) definitely try it out though, it would be an experience you would not forget! read more

Swim in the ocean till you build up an appetite for dinner 2. walk to this kiosk and find a seat with the view 3. pick your lobster in a tank where baby 2lb to 5lb monsters can be found 4. enjoy watching the battle between the waiter and the lobster (this is surprisingly violent and entertaining) 5. weigh it, determine the price, and figure out if its in your price range 6. wait 20 min. or so for your meal, perferably with a drink in one hand, enjoying the view and the weather (I love humidity) 7. Enjoy with butter, garlic, and other dips. BLISS! 8. finish off with cocoflan My mom order the steak mofongo and it just wasn't my thing (or anyone else's from my party) . I didn't like the seasoning, texture, or flavors of this dish; too sweet of a sauce that drenched a chewy piece of meat. Our best meal in 10 days Puerto Rico. Major kudos to the bellman who suggested it to us. The place is open air and bustling with locals as well as tourists. We had walked by it at lunch earlier in the day when a lot of the same mix were there. Service was fantastic and friendly and full of advice. Wife had a curry rice shrimp pineapple dish that was fabulous. Just about as great was a dish of pork medallions, stuffed with spicy ground beef and wrapped in bacon with a fruit sauce. Shrimp in butter dish was excellent as well. I normally don't care much about presentation, but these were also really good looking dishes, and LOT of food. We had some leftovers. They had a special off pea, pork, and pumpkin soup that west as delicious. Especially with a dash for their hot sauce in it. We also shared a slice of their 4 leches cake, which was interesting and very sweet. Go there. Eat. Belch. Enjoy. read more
