Every time I come to Millbrae, my standards for food drop considerably because the options here are just average at best and Millbrae doesn't compete with the rest of San Mateo County. I haven't gone to La Petite Camille in a very long time, but there's a reason for that. This restaurant has been part of Millbrae for a very long time, but this place has remained the same since and the interior is extremely outdated. It is not the cleanest. The saving grace for this place is really the lady working there being very nice and hospital with the other customers as well. Customer service is great, but that's only a third of the experience. The food and ambiance is lacking big time. What I Ordered: - Bánh mì with Five Spice Chicken ($8.50) - Imperial Rolls Cha Gio ($11) The price of Imperial Rolls are a bit steep considering the itty bitty size of them, but they give heaps of Vermicelli and lettuce plus pickled carrots/daikon. The Imperial Rolls were a little oily, but and a bit saltier than I would like although wrapping them in lettuce and the other ingredients plus the fish sauce helps with that. 5/10 The Bánh mì I ordered here is certainly one of the Bánh mì's of all time. Maybe that's a generous title because to be completely honest this was not great. It was dryyyyyy. They just slightly buttered the bread like they were rationing and there was no sauce whatsoever. The filling was a bit of a mess and they are inconsistent with portions. There was barely any pickled carrots and daikons. The chicken was okay, but definitely lacked seasoning. It was more like Zero Spice Chicken. The bread wasn't toasted enough and the sandwich overall was a 3/10 for me. It was a rainy Sunday afternoon, and a bowl of pho sounded perfect. Driving down El Camino I realized that I hadn't eaten here in years, so decided to give it a go. I went with the beef pho and it was a pretty solid bowl. The broth was tasty, the toppings could've been a little bit more, but the meat was tasty and the noodles were cooked perfectly with a good mouthfeel and chew. It's a solid bowl, and satisfied a craving. I also got an order of imperial rolls because I have to whenever I see it on the menu. These were definitely tasty, although I wish they were crispier. Wrapping them in lettuce and adding the carrots, noodles, then dipping it into the fish sauce is the way to go. I crushed an order to myself and after the entire bowl of pho was pretty stuffed. Price was it was just over $30 for lunch for myself. If you are looking for a budget friendly meal, they do offer banh Mis for under $10. Items I tried: Saigon style Seafood Soup Imperial Rolls Pan Fried Catfish Fillet Seafood Soup broth was delicious came out hot with shrimp, squid, fish cake, fish balls and noodles. I would definitely like more fish balls and shrimp but I'll definitely order this again. Reminds me of my favorite restaurant seafood soup in L.A. 5 start. Despite laws and regulations allowing service dogs, they refused to accommodate mine, which is not only inconsiderate but also discriminatory. My service dog is essential for my daily functioning, and their lack of understanding and empathy was shocking. The staff were unapologetic and dismissive, making me feel completely unwelcome. I have been coming here ever since I was little, and it's one of my favorites. Nowadays, I come maybe once a year. It does have a small parking lot, so it may be a little difficult to find a spot depending on when you come. However, the few times I do eat here over the last few years have generally been at 12 PM on the weekend, and I haven't had a hard time finding parking or being seated at a table. One of my favorite dishes from here is #73 Combination Claypot rice, and I got this on my most recent visit. The chicken is white meat (which is a bummer), but it's not too dry and might actually help prevent the dish from being too heavy. The dish itself is flavorful, and the rice has a slightly chewy consistency (kind of like zongzi, which I also love). If you don't like zongzi, I don't think you'll really care for this dish. We also ordered a BBQ Beef Spring Roll for the table, and I thought it was fine, though nothing special. I would say that some things are better than others. In addition to #73, I've generally liked their pho and one of their chicken dishes (I think it was the Five Spice, but I don't remember the name). I also noticed that data reception was slow - it would take a long time to load websites on my phone, which has Verizon as its carrier. I've also noticed that the servers can take a long time to get the check - we usually need to ask them for it (I'm not sure if it's because we still look like we're not done). Good quick place for lunch or dinner. The prices are reasonable for being in Millbrae. The pho is pretty good and flavorful. The fresh spring rolls were kinda skinny and you only get 2 rolls per order which was disappointing. Most place give 3 rolls per order but we got 2 orders and 2 rolls. Good amount of tables so you don't need to wait long. This is more of your local basic Vietnamese restaurant which gets the job done and satisfy you. Their current average rating is 3.5 stars, which I think is pretty accurate. I usually get takeaway from here and have only dined in maybe 1 or 2 times. Dining in is typical to what you'd expect from an aged asian restaurant. Overall, this feels like fast casual Vietnamese food to me. The prices are reasonable and I haven't had any problems with my food. I typically order the imperial spring rolls with vermicelli. Compared to Ben Tre across the road, I usually prefer La Petite Camille as their flavor and portions beat them just by a hair. They've changed the kitchen staff as well as the front staff and we can tell by the food. Unfortunately, the owners/manager were not in today and we could tell shortcuts we're used to make the food. We ordered clay pot rice and the shrimp spring roll. The clay pot rice was not made traditionally. They cooked it in a wok or pan and then put it in the clay pot. It didn't have the clay pot cooked taste and there were overcooked vegetables and meat in the dish - so old, they were too tough to eat. My shrimp spring roll came quickly but I soon learned why as I could tell it was either premade and refrigerated or just made very sloppily. The ingredients were not fresh and tasted like they were not washed. There were also dried out skin and noodles in all four pieces. I tried my best to eat them but could barely eat two of the four rolls. It is very disappointing as I have been a long time customer here and we often order large meals to go when we have guests over. I am guessing the lack of quality today compared to last week and the weeks before is probably to do with either 1) new kitchen staff or 2) owner's family isn't there. Excellent foods. Quick seating before 6 PM. Everything tasted great! They had a very small parking lot, but free public street parking is available too. Today, it felt like an old local Cantonese-Chinese place, but they still serve the same Vietnamese-French cuisine foods here. Staff was chatting in Cantonese, but I also heard Vietnamese and Mandarin used when they were speaking over the telephone. It was ringing nonstop. This 5-stars review is definitely for their food tastes and flavors. Everything on the menu was reasonably priced, legit, and authentic. It's much cheaper by a few dollars eating here compared to eating the same foods in the South Bay Area. I noticed that they still have huge crowds after 6 PM on Saturdays. It was the same many years ago. Customers were all very happy and seems to be regular visitors. People come in large groups and there are also local residents. There were lots of over the phone takeout orders and reservations. There were two staff waitresses today, but yes, most of the time, it only feels like one person is working all the tables. If you wave them down, they will come right at you. Just know that it's usually crowded inside during lunch and dinner hours. One of the staff members cleared the tables very fast. Just by looking, she's definitely an experienced worker. A male came out from the kitchen to help at the cashier counter when we were checking out. They were extremely busy and under staffed for sure! It's a place where they are hustling and bustling around the clock everyday. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience and atmosphere for dinner tonight. $13 per noodle bowl of your choice and around $17 for the combination appetizer meat dish. We had the crab and shrimp bun rieu noodle soup and the seafood Saigon style noodle soup. We also wrapped our own rolls too. Everything arrived at our table all around the same time (5-7 minutes). This was one of my family's go to restaurants growing up in Millbrae. I finally come back for probably the first time in over ten years with some family members and I was honestly so shocked by their big vegetarian section. I never ordered as a kid so it was such a pleasant surprise to me coming back as an adult! Also, the main waiter is the same guy and looks exactly the same?! Is he a vampire?! Anyways, I tried the crepe and the clay pot and both were solid choices! I definitely recommend the fried egg rolls because those are bomb. My complaint is not so much the food but the service. When our check came it was not itemized . The total was 94.00 plus tax came to 104.00. I left her a 12.00 dollar tip because of poor service. She said something in broken English and wanted more tip because we had a party of 6. My friend left a additional 5.00 to avoid a confrontation with the waitress. I always leave a minimum of 20 percent but the service here was not worthy of it. It was actually quite bustling that night and I don't know if the customers had the same problem as us and ended up here or they regularly come here. Before gas prices rose more than $2.00 per gallon, Millbrae was a 20-minute drive from my home in San Francisco, and parking was not big deal anywhere, this was a regular dining spot when we wanted to come down this way.
