    French onion soup
    Jessica L.

We enjoyed the fun, elegant vibes of this little restaurant. We had a reservation, which I recommend as they are busy. It was fairly easy to find street parking when during a busy time (Mardi Gras week). The escargot and French onion soup were very good.

It's been a while since I've been here. I've always enjoyed it in the past. The ambiance is beautiful during the cooler months with the plastic flaps opened up. Decided to stop by for a quick lunch and try their coolinary menu. Got the onion soup to start because can't visit without it. This was not on the coolinary menu. It was as good as I remembered. They brought out some bread and butter to dip with it great start. Coolinary did menu did the Vichyssoise and Veal Viennoise. One of the reasons I wanted to go was the Vichyssoise always wanted to try it. It's a great refreshing summer cold soup. Shouldn't have waited so long to try it. The Veal Viennoise was also good. Veal came out perfect. The pasta was interesting. Had the nice salty kick from the capers, cheesy, and had a hint of citrus maybe. That's what my taste buds thought anyway. Drink special was 6 bucks for a sazerac so had to order one. It was pretty decent. Wasn't mad at it for a 6 dollar sazerac. Overall good experience took a while to get the check even though they weren't super busy, but maybe they were short on a week lunch. Nothing to keep me from coming back.

Decided to go to a Coolinary lunch on a day off and our last trip there was a few years ago, so it was time to head back! Our reservation was for opening time and we were quickly seated once they opened the doors. I opted for a glass of sparkling wine they had as an add on for Coolinary, a French onion soup (not on the Coolinary menu but a favorite of ours), Vichyssoise, and veal viennoise. The French onion soup is perfect! The vichyssoise was chilled leek and potato soup and was very refreshing. The veal viennoise was not my favorite. The veal was cooked perfectly but there was something in the accompanying pasta that I couldn't pinpoint but it bothered me. Service is good but it took quite a while to get the check, so if you need to have a quick lunch I'd select another restaurant

The bread is amazing (we ate all of it). Veal with grits, and onion soup were awesome as well. Service was attentive and friendly.

We have already heard about this restaurant, but we have never tried it. We finally had a chance to try it. It was really good. I had the salad with the fried oysters. My husband had an omelette and a cup of french onion soup. Everything was very tasty. The service was great. We sat on the open patio which was not hot because they had fans going throughout the area. We will definitely go back.

Redfish on a bed of asparagus, bokchoy and pesto sauce

Found this french-esque cafe while walking down the street. Its very artsy and feels like the restaurant was built amongst a tree house. For appetizer, ordered the shrimp and grits which was cooked in this delicious flavorful sauce with red peppers. A good portion for an appetizer for sure. Not a grits fan but they weren't nasty! I ordered the redfish which was served on a bed of asparagus and bok choy. Blackened redfish was done well, however, I would have preferred a different pairing of vegetables to complement the taste of the fish. Also ordered the cheese board + fruit which was assorted with 2 cheeses. It was a decent pairing, but lack of attention to detail as some of the fruit was not visibly as fresh. I would recommend this for a cute brunch with friends or a late night cozy dinner. Service was great, staff is really friendly.

Great food. Great service. From the specials menu I had " puppy drum" which is slang for a small redfish ( under 10 pounds). My fillet was fresh and perfectly cooked. As an avid fisherman I can attest that the fish was freshly caught. My wife has the Salad Nicoise and the yellowfin tuna was cooked perfectly. The service was exceptional and Chad our server knew every ingredient and how things were cooked. A great value. Wish they had this place in Connecticut!!!

Romantic indoor/outdoor ambiance is a staple

One of the most romantic restaurants in New Orleans. The indoor/outdoor seating is varied in its feel and vistas. It does feel like an eclectic Parisian restaurant. The cocktails are excellent, and the wine selection is quite good. Escargot are a favorite and come out sizzling in garlic butter with sliced house baguette. The cheese plate has of late been reduced to just a couple, albeit delicious, cheeses. The French onion soup is consistently excellent. The salads are usually on point, however at my last visit the leaves were somewhat wilted. As for the mains - the skilled chefs know to cook on point - making delicious lamb chops, steak and gulf fishes. The dessert menu is varied and is well accompanied by the coffees and after dinner drinks. Service is professional; sometimes hurried. Overall a beautiful and magical experience, especially if you partake in various courses.

    Underrated Cognac

This is quickly becoming my new favorite getaway. They serve one of the best espresso martinis in the city, hands down. The bartender even introduced me to a cognac I'd always seen but never tried and it was amazing. The boudin noir was magnificent, and the escargot was Perfecto! A small, cozy, and intimate restaurant that I highly recommend.

New menu items! Veal with house made fettuccine. Tenderloin with mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. Get the Coolinary which comes with appetizer choice and warm pear tart/ice cream for very reasonable price.

Went here with a group of 7 and were seated right away which was great, our group was a little hung over due to the new year festivities but most of us were excited about the restaurant and our lunch. I was most excited about the French onion soup and it did not disappoint, see photo above. As a group we had a variety of things; mussels, raviolis, blood pudding, quail and shrimp. Apologies for no additional photos got a bit excited. Overall, the mussels, shrimp and raviolis were the bigger hits. If you are in the museum district I would recommend and try their regular or seasonal menu.

I started with the pig ears and had the fried chicken as my entrée, while my colleague chose the vegetarian option. You can find pig ears in Honolulu, but not prepared in this culinary style -- it was a creative and flavorful starter. The fried chicken was perfectly juicy and well-seasoned, and the honey butter added a delightful balance of savory and tangy sweetness. The ambiance was classy yet calm, making it ideal for both conversation and a relaxed dining experience. We also enjoyed lemon drop martinis with dinner -- crisp, refreshing, and the perfect complement to our meals. Overall, I would highly recommend this spot if you're looking to enjoy a refined and memorable dinner in New Orleans.

She was a bit chatty but still nice. The menu wasn't extensive at all. The waitress did a good job at selling many of the menu options. I initially had the chicken with carrots and brussel sprouts. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and flavored well. The chicken however was very dry. When the waitress asked how it was, I told her how dry it was and she immediately bright me something else, which was the fish and chips. The fish was hot, crispy, and cooked to perfection. It was tender, however it lacked flavor and seasoning. I asked for hot sauce but never received it. I finally decided to ask for a to go box to take the remaining piece home. The chips "fries" were great. They were freshly cut real potato fries. They were hot and seasoned well. My significant other had the shrimp and grits which he thoroughly enjoyed. As an appetizer we had the salad. Seemed simple and basic enough but was actually very good. I'm unsure of the dressing it was tossed in but it was just enough and well flavored. We skipped on dessert. We considered the cookie plate but since nobody could tell us what kind of cookies they were, so we decided to pass. The best part about our dining experience was the ambiance. The music was nice and the decor was vibrant and swanky . I also had a mocktail flavored with pineapple, jalapeno, lime, mint, and cilantro. It was refreshing. I'm glad we had a chance to check it out before closing but I can honestly say there was no "WOW" factor and likely I wouldn't have been in a hurry to come back.

We started with cocktails, solid and refreshing. The small plates with fun--beignets with a great sauce and shrimp remoulade that was different in its white remoulade but truly fresh chilled shrimp. Outstanding. We went different ways on the mains, with a brilliant fish and chips plus the breakfast plate. So well prepared--devoured both. Justine is now firmly on my French Quarter list!

I'd previously sampled great bites from Chef/Owner Justin Devillier (2016 James Beard Award winner for Best Chef: South) at a guest dinner in Charleston, as well as from Exec Chef Joseph Tiedmann at a Farm Dinner in West Palm Beach. But this was my first visit to "the mother ship", housed in a historic century-old building. I decided to start with the Fried Gulf Oysters - Sofrito Purée, Chowchow & Pickled Sweet Peppers, and was glad I did. There's no shortage of oyster dishes in NOLA, and this was a big winner. Next up, when in the South, why not order Fried Green Tomatoes - Burrata, Country Ham & Oregano? Another terrific plate, perhaps the best FGT dish I've had! Finally, my "target dish" arrived, the Shrimp & Okra Gumbo with Andouille, Collard Greens & Popcorn Rice. Really, really good. Very dark roux, as I like, and with plenty of seafood flavor, but more depth as well. Definitely one of the best gumbos I've ever enjoyed. Not like a Twix as someone mentioned. Almost impossible to stick your spoon through and I work out. Seriously shouldn't have to struggle that much. Needs a more flavorful crust, less caramel and more chocolate. They should rename this to caramel tart. The bday ice cream was fantastic and probably saved them from a 3 star review from me so I didn't have to leave on a negative note. The espresso wand was caked with milk froth which should never be. But that on top of the emptiness makes sense with the location, hotel, day and time. Pam took care of us and was a joy as our server. She knew the menu very well and was able to answer all our questions on top of being helpful and productive throughout our visit. We had the skirt steak and king Salmon with a side of fries and stuffed potatoes. The skirt steak was cooked to medium and it was amazingg! Pam asked how I'd like it cooked and suggested it to be cooked at medium rare. I couldn't do that since I'm barely starting to get used to my steaks being cooked at medium, but it was still absolutely delicious. The sauce that was glazed on top, as well as the seasoning of the steak killed it!! The salmon was also delicious. Very flavorful. The stuffed potatoes were ok, we liked their side of fries more than that. Drinks were tasty and refreshing. Worth the price. We also got dessert, a chocolate cake and apple pie. I wasn't expecting to like the apple pie, but wow was that good! And the chocolate cake isn't just any boring cake. Once you break the cake, a chocolaty liquid melts out onto your plate, it was perfection. The restaurant itself is beautiful. They're located on the 14th (if I'm not mistaken) floor and have the best location for beautiful views of downtown New Orleans and the waterfront. In spite of the Yelp ratings, that should have been a huge red flag. Ordered the Old Fashioned from the menu that was very good. Tried to find a bottle of Cabernet for under $150. There were none and only one cab by the glass at $30, so we opted for that (that same bottle sold for $165...math doesn't add up). The menu does not have a lot of variety. No garden salad, so I started with the gumbo. It was good, but would have been better with some bread. We each ordered the ribeye medium with a side of mushrooms and a twice baked potato. The sides were excellent, but the steak was over cooked. To make matters worse, our server was not paying attention so I had to ask another to have our server or a manager come over. The manager came by and promptly took both steaks away to have them remade and comped us another glass of wine. Nice gesture. However, the second steaks were no better than the first. I asked the manager if he really considered what we were looking at to be medium. He assured me it was and held the table light by the steak so I could see it better. You can see by the picture of the second steaks that it was not cooked right either. When the check came, they comped one of the steaks, but not both. Not sure what their logic was, as neither of us ate much of either. Told the server the same and Mr. Manager came back over with both comped. Apparently they were trying to get every red cent out of the few people in the joint!
