I came here after work with a coworker for an early cinco de mayo. I understand it was a busy time for cinco de mayo and I fully respect that. Some of the staff was quite rude when I ordered. One of the waitresses gave me a rather hard time about it because I was asking questions on the menu. The food was reasonably priced so that was really a good thing. The ambiance was also fine because they played a lot of good Mexican songs for cinco de mayo. I can't believe I haven't been here yet! The inside is absolutely beautiful - colorful artwork, plants and pretty Spanish tiles everywhere. There's a cozy little bar area in the front that opens up into a large dining room. Outside in the back you'll find a festive patio area decorated with bright flags that has its own bar. A perfect place to enjoy some margaritas with friends on a warm night! I had the chicken mole enchiladas. The mole sauce was incredible - rich and velvety with a slight sweetness. The complimentary chips and salsa were also delicious. The chips were warm and crispy and the salsa was freshly made. My partner got the combination platter with a vegetarian enchilada and burrito. They were stuffed with fresh vegetables, cheese and beans. The staff was friendly and attentive. I met the owner who was great! It's clear he loves his business and enjoys what he does. My first experience here was great! The staff was amazing! One man was bar tending and taking care of 6 tables and making it look easy. As a former waitress and certified bartender, I was super impressed! I ordered white enchiladas (sans beans) and the la amor. They brought me chips and salsa and the salsa was super refreshing. I enjoyed the enchiladas very much and the drink was pretty and delicious too. I noticed on the way out that they have a very super cute outdoor seating area and bar too. The best enchiladas I may have ever had. Got the shrimp with salsa verde and they were perfect. Amazing salsa (not too much or too thick), shrimp tasted great, and. the entire dish just felt fresh and it was just enough food for me. It's something you feel good eating. This restaurant also has a cute interior and friendly service. Quiet when I went, but there's a solid amount of seating for dining in. It is a little on the pricey side ($14.5 for two enchiladas) but cannot overstate the quality. One of my new favorites in Providence. read more

I can't believe La Piñata is just down the street from me and I hadn't tried it until this Yelp Elite event brought me in! The decor is beautiful--warm, colorful, and inviting--and the staff made me feel very welcome from the moment I walked in. We tried two enchiladas: the verde beef enchilada and the flag enchilada (three enchiladas with three different meats and sauces). Both came with rice and beans, and everything was flavorful and satisfying. As someone who has lived in California and Texas, I've had my fair share of Mexican food, and I was impressed with the quality here. The flag enchilada was my favorite--it's such a fun way to sample different sauces and proteins in one dish. I especially liked the variety in textures across the meats, and if I had to rank them I'd go pork chicken beef. All the sauces were delicious, but together they really made the dish shine. The music fit the mood, light Mexican music, mosaic bar, some pictures on the walks. The staff was friendly and effecient. The food was great, more than I could eat in one sitting. I came here last week for the RI Food Fights Taco Mania. We were able to sit on the back patio because the weather was unseasonably warm for October. The patio was super fun and I imagine it would be a blast in the summer. They had a bar out there, an awning, and plenty of seating. The service was great - we had two friendly waiters helping us and the food was brought out to our table quickly! We ordered the Pinata Platter to start which had taquitos, a quesadilla, nachos, and chicken tenders. The nachos and the taquitos were our favorites! We came in with a coupon for Tacomania, and absolutely will come back to sample the menu more fully. The space is lovely - a pretty arch between the large bar and dining room and another between the dining room & restroom/kitchen corridor, wood walls up to a chair rail, then painted walls with tiles inset along the arches, beautiful floor mosaics, cute piñatas strategically placed. It's a cozy place to sit for dinner with friends. The Spanish music playing is audible but still just in the background - no need to scream to be heard. Staff seated us and visited during the meal to make sure we didn't miss out on drink refills, etc. Very attentive and caring service, from a few different folks who came to the table. Our drinks came in actual glasses (heavy thick glass) - and my husband's beer came with a frosted glass (not a mug). He was happy! We didn't do a full menu sample, but... the chips seemed house made, and were delicious but my husband felt they needed salt to bring out more of the flavor; the salsa was a bit watery and lacked strong enough seasoning for us. The guacamole was superb - and we watched it being freshly made at the station behind or table. Tacos can be ordered soft or hard (since he's from CA, my husband prefers the Tex-Mex old school hard version). The fried shell was crispy, and his ground beef taco was tasty, but bland. He neglected to ask for hot sauce - and really missed it from everything he tried. My shredded beef fajita salad had a very generous helping of meat & veggies packed into that tasty shell, again with the meat and veggies only subtly seasoned. The pico de gallo was fresh and refreshing. I'm eager to return to try one of the margaritas (and there are many on the menu), and some enchiladas with rice and beans - with some hot sauce this time. La Piñata has the vibe that makes for a place we'll revisit; an actual parking lot so we won't have to hunt for a place to leave the car; friendly service; and decent food that, with another visit and more careful communication that we like it spicy, may end up being excellent. I got a new local favorite for Hispanic food! My friend recommended this cute all-in-one Mexican restaurant and it did not disappoint. PSA: when entering off Westminster St, you come into the dining room and should wait to be seated. The house chips and salsa was above average, a bit runny but delicious flavor. We tried the carnitas tacos first which came out dressed with pickled onions, cilantro, onion and cheese. The server gave us a small container of hot sauce that she warned us about but had a great flavor...and she was spot on! I would buy a bottle of that hot sauce despite the heat. We also split an order of short rib enchiladas in red sauce (more brown than red). I tried the short rib separate from the tortilla and mixings and you could tell with the amount of flavor, it had been stewing for a while! Comes with rice and beans. Since this is within a 20 minute walk from my place, I have already decided to come back on a Taco Tuesday for discounted food or during happy hour some early afternoon! read more

La Piñata is a quintessential Mexican restaurant with an interior that looks like an Adobo and plenty of exterior porch seating in the rear on nicer days. They are also one of the rare PVD restaurants that have their own parking lot which is a major plus. The inside includes a bar that seats around 8 people and a dining area split between 2 tops and a few 4 tops. The inside is also laced with different piñatas scattered around the indoor space and a larger piñata hanging from the ceiling in the center of the room. Their decoration is definitely on theme. Their margarita menu is extensive. They have a total of 11 different margarita options to select from. I went with my favorite type of margarita, spicy, and found it to be okay on spice level but heavy on the alcohol. They give each table chips and salsa when you sit down, and I found their chips to be seasoned well enough to eat on their own without salsa if needed. I visited for Tacomania and went on the server's recommendation of the carnitas and adobos taco. Both tacos were served in a single tortilla, but they weren't too messy to eat. Each of the tacos had okay flavor, but didn't blow my socks off. For the entree I went with the Piñata special 2 with is carne asada and grilled fish (unclear on type), with rice, beans and avocado. The carne asada was the best thing I had for the entire meal, it was succulent, tender and perfectly seasoned. Everything else was solid. The service speed was pretty good but there were some communication gaps, not all of the servers speak English so sometimes I'd have to point to something or repeat a question I had multiple times. Overall this is a fun hangout spot with a group of people that love strong margaritas and authentic Mexican cuisine. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but if I'm hungry or craving a margarita while I'm in the area, I'd definitely return. read more

La Pinata (same as in Warren) is in the old Louie Fullers on Westminster. I nearly cried when I walked inside. Louie Fuller was one of the most beautiful restaurant interiors ever. It is no more. That's not to say that La Pinata is not lovely. It is cute. They put Mexican tiles around the windows and archways. Nice touch. The service is very friendly. The menu is large. I appreciated the vegetarian options. Especially the broccoli and cauliflower fajitas. (I get tired of the ones with just peppers and onions.) The portions are large. Plenty for lunch tomorrow. Came here with a larger group and was very pleased with the service and control of the table when it came to order accuracy. It was a hard choice because all of the menu options looked so good but I decided on the Poblano shrimp special that night. SO good!! Perfect amount of food for a guy that's "always hungry"! The restaurant itself was open and adorned with many different Mexican decorations. Very nice atmosphere. Definitely worth the trip. I tried the pollo asada, pescado (grilled fish), and camarones (shrimp) tacos and they were all delicious. They all had unique additions to the protein rather than all having the same additional toppings which I appreciated. The tacos were all robustly full as well; no skimping here! This place opened quietly last week. On our way to eat at a different restaurant, we stumbled on this place. Lights were on, but with no signage, we awkwardly lurked about, peering in the windows, wondering excitedly what had popped up in our hood. Luckily, a fellow customer was smoking outside and informed us it was worth a visit, so we changed our plans and had dinner here. The space is great, pretty large inside with festive decor. I could see it being fun on a busy night, but as this place isn't even on the map yet, we were two of maybe 8 customers. Servers were attentive and friendly. The margaritas were good. At first I felt $13-14 was a bit steep, but they are huge and pretty sure I browned out after just drinking one. The grand marnier marg was mediocre, a bit sweet. The cucumber marg was AMAZING though. The food was solid but not mind blowing. The free tortilla chips were great, though the salsa wasn't my fave. I got chicken enchiladas with verde sauce and husband got a short rib chimichanga with rojo sauce. Rice and beans were delish. The rib meat was excellent, very flavorful and tender. However, my chicken and verde sauce were a touch bland. I think the option to manage your own sauce/spice level would have truly elevated the food for me. If they had, for example, a trio of hot sauces or salsas on the table, I think this place would have been 5/5 stars for me. Hopefully they just get better and better with time!
