I enjoyed the tacos and the shrimp tostada. My fiancé liked the quesadilla but was mad at the tacos since he gets an upset stomach with onions and asked for his tacos without onions. Of course they came with them still lol. Oh well. Took him like 15 mins to get them all out. The shrimp was fresh tasting, and they were huge! Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the salsa, but I didn't need the salsa anyways. I would definitely go back

Tiny spot in a strip mall that has the taste of freshly prepared, homemade Mexican food. There are 1,000's of places you can eat from that surround this place and serves the same thing. But I'd rather support a local business owner who works hard everyday and serves fresh food than another place that has a chain around the South Bay. Don't count calories here and forget your macros, this isn't the place for that. The tostadas that came with the shrimp cocktail were just fried so it was crisp and hot. The cocktail was swimming in shrimp, sauce and avocados. The sauce was runnier than I'd like, which was one of two drawbacks for me. Four tacos (2 lengua, 2 cabeza) were quite filling for me and these were the best part. You can get other meat fillings as well, but I prefer the more exotic stuff and I wasn't disappointed. Not too salty or fatty, you can taste the meat here instead of being buried under condiments. Although, if that's your thing, go ahead and use the hot sauce and sweat some more. No such thing as eating neatly here, so grab those napkins. Mmmmmm.... Drinks are bottled, but I believe you can get some others in a cup, but not sure where the dividing line is on that. The other drawback was, since Torrance was experiencing a heat wave when I came here, it was steamy in the shop despite the window a/c going full blast. Felt like I was back in TJ all over again. If this bothers you, come later in the day when, hopefully, it will have cooled off. Or visit later when it's not so hot. Prices are reasonable with combo plates are available as well. I think I'll stick with the tacos, though. Great place for when it's too hot to cook, but you still want hot food and you don't want to go far for it. Some of the better shops really are the small guys tucked away in a corner. Happy eating!!

Went back one night only to find out they closed over an hour before I got there. The nice owner refused to let me leave and started up the kitchen to make me her 4 taco special. I felt kind of guilty knowing that based on the price, there can't be much of a profit margin, but she still made me the special with a smile and enthusiasm. Honestly, it made me feel like one of my friend's moms was cooking for me when I was a kid. I dug through my wallet looking for cash but only had a 10. Of course she adamantly refused to take it and almost chased me to try to get me to take the change. I didn't. I actually wanted to leave her a 20. She's got a customer for life. Tip: the sushi spot next door has a really good omakase deal Trivia bit: the movie Friday After Next was filmed almost entirely in this shopping plaza. read more

I've given La Placita several chances and tried a handful of different menu items, but unfortunately, the experience has been consistently disappointing. The food is bland, the ingredients haven't tasted fresh, and the overall quality seems fairly low. The service and atmosphere haven't been very welcoming either. The woman behind the counter is not particularly friendly and has come across as rude during my visits. After multiple chances, I can't recommend this place. The food isn't good enough to overlook the unfriendly and uncomfortable atmosphere, and I don't plan on returning. There are better options nearby. read more

But I'd rather support a local business owner who works hard everyday and serves fresh food than another place that has a chain around the South Bay. Don't count calories here and forget your macros, this isn't the place for that. The tostadas that came with the shrimp cocktail were just fried so it was crisp and hot. If I can give 10 stars I would!!! I had the honor of eating at LA Placita Torrance, CA. I love how they toast the tortilla a bit, tacos never get soggy and such a good crunch. Their salsa is so flavorful and not hot, a very nice mellow spice. We had the asada tacos and breakfast burrito. This Mexican food is OUTSTANDING, PHENOMENAL. I found this little hidden gem last minute. If you want authenticity this little dive is the place to go. I received a warm welcoming from Rosalinda who is owner. Very friendly and accommodating. Food reminded me of my grandmothers hometown in Jalisco. Fresh frijoles de la olla , seasoned perfectly rice and the steak was tender and perfectly cooked. Tortillas served warm with a side of fresh avocados and the salsa was a perfect spicy for my taste buds. I had a fresh hot cup of Joe and a fresh squeezed OJ. It's a small but quant space. Will i return?... 100% yes! I also found out on weekends they post up a stand outside and start cooking some carnitas at 5am soooo probably looking at 8-9am when carnitas fully cooked and ready with a side of homemade tortillas and salsas . Can't wait to try them . It's a possibility they may have menudo and or posole a crowds hangover favorites. A must try y'all ! Honestly some of the best Mexican I have had in a while. A little mom and pop shop and with amazing customer service. Great prices too!!! Huge portions for the wet burritos. I would have taken a pic but it went too quick. Definitely going to go again. I would recommend to all. read more

I went here expecting some good food. All I got were reheated tortillas and a bad taste in my mouth. On top of it all my tacos were extremely soggy. I couldn't even pick them up without them falling apart. Unfortunately this a first and last for me. read more

If you're looking for a meal made from an owner and cook that care, this is the absolute place to go. Portions are proper unlike other similar restaurants in the Carson/Torrance area. If you've ever been to Alpine Swap Meet and have eaten at the Mexican food truck, you are enjoying this lovely ladies food. Her daughter now runs that food truck upon opening this restaurant. Location is in Carson Plaza which is a bit small and tucked in the corner but you won't be dissatisfied coming here. read more

Hit this place the night before our Warped Tour trip, right after Benihana, and it ended up being…read moreone of the highlights of the pregame. It's literally walking distance from our hotel in Torrance -- so close we actually walked past it the first time without even realizing it was there. Super hidden, easy to miss. The space itself is small, and when you first walk in it doesn't hit you with an over-the-top tiki vibe right away. But once the drinks start coming out, it fully delivers. The glassware is so fun and themed -- I was obsessed with the flamingo cup and actually ended up buying a couple online since I couldn't take the real one home with me. Drink-wise, I stuck mostly to my usual zombie, which has this great earthy, cinnamon-y flavor that's just different from anything else -- does the trick every time (there's a two-drink max/minimum on it, which I respect). We also tried a Makahiki Mua and a Painkiller, both really solid. The Makahiki Mua had a fun flavor, kind of similar to a Painkiller, but the zombie is still my go-to. Service was pretty good overall -- the bartender stayed mostly in one corner of the bar, which actually worked in our favor since we got served fast. A couple of small quirks though: they only have a limited number of menus, so we kept having to pass one back and forth around the bar, which felt a little silly. They also seemed to be running low on drink cups at times, having to wash and rotate them back into use, which was an odd thing to notice at a bar this size. Also wish they had some food or snacks available, even something small -- but that's a minor gripe. Vibe-wise, this is easily one of my favorite tiki lounges I've been to -- doesn't quite topple Broken Compass Tiki for me, but it's up there. Fun, easy, great drinks, solid service despite the small hiccups, and a perfect spot if you're staying in the Torrance area. Would absolutely go back and would recommend it to anyone chasing that tiki lounge crawl.

However, the fish/shrimp is immediately put in a tortilla and topped, which causes the steaming fried fish to sog up its crust, leaving the eater with something less than it could be. Diego's doesn't do that. They have a slightly thicker batter. Plus, they let the fish cool down a bit after it's been fried so that it does not create a sauna when it's put into a tortilla. So the fish and the shrimp stay very crispy. it's a simple thing. However, it makes a real hell of a difference. Also on the menu there are crunchy tacos, similar to the ones that you would find at Mariscos Jalisco. We had the one with octopus. It was excellent. It even came with a dipping consume that worked well with the taco. The folks there seemed to work hard at making really good food. So, don't expect a fish taco handed to you five seconds after you order it. It may take some time. However, it's worth it. One last note, the original address attached to this yelp listing had Diego's in Los Angeles and not Harbor City. When it calculated directions, it brought you to a gated community. If you do end up there, take a right out of the main driveway back onto Sepulveda, head a mile north and it will be on your right in the next strip mall.
