Food was mouth watering!!! One the best three course meals! Definitely will be returning.

We found this a couple of months ago and have already been there maybe six times. Food is excellent and the staff are wonderful. Weve loved all three bartenders we've met who give really honest advice about the food and drinks. We've met very nice people at nearby tables who have been going there for years. It's across the street from the ocean and a lovely cool breeze blows through the restaurant and bar during the summertime. Having lived in Manhattan for quite some time we are thrilled to have found such a lovely place out here in Wading River where we've been spending a lot of time due to Covid. With La Plage around we don't miss the city dining we've enjoyed for years. read more

This is a wonderful restaurant with great atmosphere and welcoming service. Superb wine & cocktail list. Located right on the water, but it's too bad that outdoor seating is away from the western (sunset) side of the building. Still I had a fantastic meal to remember and will return. I highly recommend La Plage for a special evening. Bonus: I left my birthday card on the table and they promptly mailed to it me at home 70 miles away. Major points for that level of service!!! I've only been here only twice because it's a bit out of way from where we live. The first time was about 15 years ago, and second time was yesterday on our way to tanger outlet. Both times I've been extremely satisfied with my meal. Small, charming restaurant with a waterview and situated across from the beach. Dress was very casual and service was good and not overly intrusive. Service sometimes got too casual since our water wasn't always filled. We had the duck confit, tomato salad, and then the lunch prix fixe -- glass of chardonnay, potato soup, fish du jour which was the pan seared scallops with butternut squash puree, and chocolate mousse, and coffee. The $25 lunch prix fixe was a great deal, and the food was fresh and cooked to almost perfection. I really liked the tomato salad but wished the tomatoes were a bit sweeter. Both the duck and scallops were fantastic although I do prefer my scallops pan seared slightly longer with a more crispy, golden-brown crust, especially when the butternut puree is already soft and creamy in texture. Chocolate mousse was just heavenly. After a lunch like this one, you realize why life is so good. read more

this place was great. was me and my date, showed up, took our reservation, but hint to first goers, specially if you make reservations, if they dont ask you if you want inside or outside (they didnt for me, no big deal though), ask for outside, if its spring/summer/fall, its a pretty nice place. inside was not bad though. for food, my date got the rigatoni pasta with Sun Dried Tomato-Manchego Cheese Butter, Baby Spinach / Flambéed Shrimp / Aged Sherry, and I got the Tuna special. my date liked her food, and the Tuna special (rare) was extremely good. waiter was good, the little outdoor bar was pretty cool also. if around the area, looking for a nice place to eat, this is def. worth a try. read more

I am very fond of this restaurant. I grew up in WR, and when I was a kid, this was a snack bar that was *the place* to go during a day at the beach. How nice for me as an adult, then, that it has become *the place* to go on the beach for an excellent lunch or dinner. The food is always high-caliber. There are a few starter, salad, and dessert items that have been "stuck" for years, but the diverse and seasonal entrees change, and all are well prepared, with fresh ingredients, and nicely presented. The bar and wine "cellar" are well stocked. The servers are invariably gracious, friendly, and knowledgable about the foods and wines. The setting is wonderful. It's nestled across Creek Road from the beach in the NE corner of WR's beautiful marsh, which you can see from the rear window inside and to some extent from the outdoor bar. The room itself is casual and "beachy," warm and inviting, and without pretense. The outdoor dining area and bar are real plusses, although the patio can get pretty roasty in the summer. Parking adjecent to the restaurant is limited (and during lunch can get crazy with delivery trucks - my one complaint about the place), but there is ample space in an auxiliary lot a short walk away. read more

The service was very good considering it was a busy Saturday night. Had the carmelized scallops which were tender over a fennel purée and others had the poached lobster completely out its shell served over a Manchego cheese orzo and butternut squash. Just lovely. read more

We hadn't been to La Plage in a few years so we decided to go back and summer is the perfect time to go there. Over the last few years, I've definitely come to notice that Long Island is loaded with "fair to good" restaurants and few "great" ones. This is especially true in Suffolk County and even more so the farther east you get. La Plage not only breaks that steriotype, it smashes it. The menu itself was so good that I couldn't even figure out what to order. Lobster and asparagus risotto was spectacular and I've always loved their green apple salad. A salad?, you say? Yes...it's that good and worth ordering. The 4 entrees our table ordered where, potato encrusted halibut, duck breast, sea bass with chorizo and scallops with gnocchi. All were terrific. La Plage Is a staple of mine on Long Island . When it's warm they have seating out front next to a lovely little planting on a stone wall. I've been coming out to the island for 6 or 7 years now and have sadly realized that there is a dearth of restaurants that offer a dining experience. La Plage is a bright spot here. It offers a refined classic menu rooted in French and Italian styles, lovely presentation and charming staff. It's not a cheap date but a rewarding one . It also has a solid wine list . One very surreal aspect is that it lives in the shadow of the defunct shorham nuclear plant the main building of which is massively out of scale with the otherwise beautiful wetland grasses . I guess it wouldn't be America without some contradictions. read more

Came here for a birthday celebration and the food was amazing. Wasn't sure where to go so I googled best restaurants on Long Island and La Plage came up. Both me and my better half were thoroughly satisfied with each course. Finally, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and I also like that it was nestled in a nice beach town community. read more

Great dinner tonight! Bobby our waiter was attentive and offered many options of specials which were fantastic. We have eaten here a few times and is always getting better. We had a few new appetizers tonight that didn't disappoint. Tonight was our anniversary and we mentioned it while making our reservations. At least three servers and hosts wished us a happy anniversary and they also brought us champagne on the house plus other sweet comps. Very unexpected and wonderful. I took my husband here in a Saturday night for his birthday dinner. The food was excellent! We started with fresh oysters and an octopus salad. I normally don't eat octopus but I wanted to try it. It was super tasty and not "fishy" at all. I would def order it in the future. For dinner I had a the short ribs with broccoli rabbi and cheese potato. The portion size was great and I loved the short ribs. My husband had the duck confit which he really enjoyed. It was a fair portion size for anyone who the portions one would would normally get when ordering duck. After dinner we shared a crape which was just ok. Nevertheless, the food was excellent. The food is priced just right at this place. Our bill was inexpensive for the quality of the food. We will def be returning during the summer. We want to enjoy the sunset and view of the LI Sound across from the restaurant. This place is definitely worth checking out! read more

A solid four-star pick. The service is professional and the food is exceptional. Additionally, the view across the Long Island Sound is both relaxing and romantic as a seaside intimate place. Read the positive reviews about the food here on Yelp. The menu is delightfully unusual but not eclectic. And that's a good thing. Artisinal Cheese Plate, a good choice which included assorted fresh fruits to cleanse the pallet. This appetizer pairs well with your wine pick. Pan Seared Branzino, fabulous. Duck Leg Confit is another wonderful and hard to find dish, although the risotto cooked properly is a bit overwhelming to the meat in this dish. Less is more for this dish La Plage. Boneless Beef Short Ribs cooked long and tender. This one was a real pleaser. We generally skip dessert and this menu wasn't as inspiring or unusual enough to get us to try something. Try to improve this La Plage. La Plage, being the seaside out of the way spot, may not operate year round during the lonely winter months. Check their business times to be sure. For spring, summer, and fall you should put La Plage on your 'special occasion' short list. Enjoy a fine meal with a good wine list and inspiring window views of the north seashore of Long Island. Enjoyed a lovely lunch here sitting on the patio looking over at the water. Their pre-fix lunch includes an appetizer, entree, dessert, a glass of wine and coffee or tea for $25! It was delicious! First course of spinach salad with red onion, oranges, feta and an olive vinaigrette, followed by a pan seared bass over some veggies with a chocolate mousse for dessert. It was all fabulous, everything was fresh and so tasty. We really enjoyed it and so glad that we discovered it! read more

Was super excited to try this place but was disappointed. I find the bread at every restaurant to always be a good indicator of how the food would be. The rolls here were like the rolls they serve at wedding receptions that come in big plastic bags. The mussels were good but overpowered by the pesto sauce they were drowning it (no other flavor at all). The burrata salad was not a salad, but rather burrata served on two charred pieces of toast. We actually sent this back. I've never had a burrata dish I didn't like but this was inedible. To replace it we ordered the cheese plate. The cheeses were nice but served with crackers from a box. The fluke was tasty but not served with the creamy fish sauce on the menu and definitely overpriced for what it was. The pasta itself was good but the tomato sauce was a bit ketchupy. Nice atmosphere outside but probably won't be back. read more

I absolutely adore this quaint French restaurant hidden in the back roads of Wadding River. My husband and I had an amazing dinner for Valentine's Day. I had their tart apple salad and filet mignon while my husband enjoyed lobster ravioli and Sun Dried Tomato-Manchego Cheese Butter, Baby Spinach / Flambéed Shrimp / Aged Sherry. And for desert we were given a trio dish to share... to die for. Neither one of us had a scrap left on our plates and believe me I wish I did so I could enjoy it again. Everything was cooked to perfection and was 5 stars on my yummy tongue meter. Even my filet could have been cut with a spoon that's how tender it was. There is nothing bad I could honestly say about this place. I may even go as far as saying this is my favorite French restaurant. As in the tradition of French food the chef always finds ways to reinvent traditional dishes into something a little more elegant and savory. I will admit that I can't always visit this spectacular spot for an evening dinner because the prices are on the $$$$ side... but if you sign up to their email list they run a ton of specials that are reasonable and always delectable. They also have a ton of nights where you can bring your own wine night... big savings there. If you have a special occasion or want to impress someone or just enjoy fine dining I highly recommend La plage. The only thing I will warn you about is if you are not familiar with the area I would definitely map quest it or even better GPS. This place is not a easy drive it's in the middle of nowhere ' I found the place small.-/ I was opening the door to enter I thought the wall would fall down. The staff was not friendly not helpful not even a little. The appetizers was not what it should of been it lacked the key ingredient. The bathroom is small and cold. This has to be one of the best meals during our summer vacation week in Rocky Point. Beware of the nasty patrons! Overall the restaurant is excellent, attentive friendly staff, the menu is a great example of French cuisine cooked perfectly. Unfortunately all of these great qualities attract the unpleasant want- to -be "middle- upper class" snobs of Long Island. Last night, after a long work week my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a romantic late dinner at La Plage. We were excited for our date night, however as the host was seating us at our table I noticed the two couples sitting at a the four top next to us started to stare at me making nasty remarks about my outfit choice, which I thought bizarre I was wearing Valentino for Christ sakes! Regardless of that no one should feel harassed by other patrons of the restaurant of their style especially if it is non inappropriate outfit. After a discussion with my husband about how incredibly rude these people were being we had seen they were finishing up their dessert and decided to brush it off and continue to enjoy our night. They would not stop, for as long as these relics from the 1980's were sitting next to us they kept staring making nasty remarks about my lip color (plum for the fall) , and other various comments. La Plage is a small restaurant, beautiful historical building however the tables are crammed with little to no elbow room and your in direct earshot of other conversations around you. Privacy goes right out the window here, I guess that's what you get with an overly booked restaurant.. fortunately the kind couple sitting to the left of us overheard the harassment and decided to befriend us, the nasty 50 year old women and their frumpy old husbands left and we ended up having a good night. Little advice to the young beautiful women that dine at La Plage don't pay any mind to the older grumpy crowd. They're horrible reminders of an offensive past and are jealous they are over the hill and will attempt to make you feel unwelcome at this establishment. So rock your style what ever it may be and enjoy your delicious meal, I recommend the filet it was amazing! read more

went there last night for 3 course prix-fixe menu the chow was pretty good, the service was excellent HOWEVER, I was vastly disappointed at the beer selection and prices 1 bottle of blue point toasted lager: $8?!? you gotta be kidding me also, each cup of coffee was 4 bucks now I know that they have to make their money somewhere, especially during a price fixed menu, but to sock it to the customer like this on incidentals really sucks read more

La Plage is such a cute place!! My friends and I decided to eat here because we were staying at a house for a weekend up the road! This place has a fixed 3 course menu for lunch for 25$ !!! We decided to do the Christmas Eve takeout. A little nervous, as our last experience at another restaurant was a total failure.And this was our first time eating here. We called Sunday to place an order. Only thing I wish was that the website said x mas eve dinners had to be in by Sunday. Only by chance did we make the deadline. That being said the total experience was 5 star. From the first phone call to the pickup of our order which was brought out to the car. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. It could of not been simpler. We had the apple salad which we wish had a little more greens, as every bit was delicious. The lobster ravioli was super fresh, and we wish we had some bread to scoop up the sauce in was in. Totally amazing! I had the filet mignon that was cooked the way I wanted.( how often does that happen at a resturant) It came with mashed potatoes that were enough for two. and a nice mushroom gravy . My wife had the osso bucco which was cooked to perfection. The rice was out of this world and could of been a dish on its own . The bok choy was very tasty. The chocolate bread pudding and orange cheese cake , were pure heaven. LaPlage exceeded our expectations, and gave us a Christmas eve dinner to remember. We will surly be back! read more

Out the outset, let me first say that the food and setting at this restaurant is outstanding. It is what ensued after our main course that is the reason for this 1 star review. A totally unnecessary, unprofessional and disappointing occurrence that is the reason for never returning to this restaurant again. This was a celebratory dinner for my wife and I where my wife was treating me to a special meal. A restaurant that we have frequented in the past... The setting of this quaint restaurant and the main course, all wonderful, was the reason for staying for dessert (should have quit while we were ahead). We ordered dessert and as the sun was setting, the gnats were becoming intolerable to the point of biting us and flying into our ice cream. We immediately asked the bus boy, as he was the closest most immediate person to ask , if we could move to another table. He disappeared without saying anything and got a lighter to light the torches. (a little late at this point). We got the attention of our server, asking if we could move, at which point she shrugged us off and told us to see the hostess. The hostess was extremely accommodating in getting us another table, we moved inside having to carry our melting ice cream with us. The final straw came 10 minutes or so after we relocated, the original server stopped by to not see if everything was OK, but tossed the check on the table, said nothing, no eye contact and walked away. That was it... My wife went to see the hostess to speak with a manager and was told that the manager was not in. Eventually the server came to the table, with an obvious attitude asking what the problem is. As my wife began to explain the problem, and why she wanted to speak with a manager, the server interrupted her saying that she didn't see it that way. She then got incredibly confrontational and I told her that she was being argumentative and this was totally uncalled for. She replied that she was not arguing and continued to escalate the situation This exchange went on for a few minutes, or so, at which point my wife and I were in total disbelief of what was occurring. As she turned to walk away she accused us of being a difficult table. The server then returned and blurted out that there was no charge for the meal that evening and sarcastically yelled out, "have a nice night" as she walked away. The issue was not the bill. This entire episode was unnecessary and the server's attitude was aggressive and confrontational. The server handled this in a very dismissive way, with no apology, or taking ownership of any of this. Hopefully management will take this as a learning experience and make sure that this, what was otherwise suppose to be a special evening out at LaPlage, never happens to a patron of theirs again.
