We held a large family gathering there and I would like to thank the staff for their courtesy and great service. Drinks and food were A++. Went to La Plage for dinner today, for the first time, after spending a wonder day at Wildwood State Park. The appetizer Shellfish Platter was filled with fresh clams, oysters, lobster and king crab. Entrees of Salmon and Fluke were fresh and cooked to perfection. My Osso Bucco was tender and wonderful. Dessert was a scrumptious. Warm blueberry crumble. My husband and I were here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary last night, 4/30/17. Overall, we had a nice time, but there were several disappointments. They were out of most of the things we wanted to try: the cheese plate, the ravioli appetizer, 2 entrees, the creme brulee, and the normal accompaniments for the short ribs. They also listed a lamb entree on their website's menu, but they weren't serving it. We both started with the crab soup which was in a tomato based broth, it was good, but nothing to rave about. Their warm bread was delicious along with the butter, we each had 2 helpings of it. My husband ordered the short ribs as his entree hoping to have the grits that were supposed to come with them, but instead had to settle for plain mashed potatoes and a small amount of spinach on the side . I ordered the duck leg confit over fresh chive risotto with a mushroom demi glaze which was very tasty and cooked well. The mushrooms really added something to the dish. For dessert, my husband had the Nutella banana bread pudding, which he enjoyed, and I had the chocolate creme brulee. Unfortunately, the top of my brulee was hardly caramelized and crunchy what so ever, but the flavor of the large amount of custard was very good. I would've called it a pudding or mousse as opposed to a creme brulee. The service was very good, our waitress was very nice and friendly and you could tell that she felt bad to have to tell us of all the things they were out of that night. Lastly, the restaurant itself is a small place- I do mean small. If you don't like tight places or are very tall like my husband and anxious about how you'll be seated at a restaurant, think twice about La Plage. The 1 great thing about their location: the views. You can see the Sound on 1 side and the salt water marsh areas on the other. :) Overall, the food was good, but not what we were hoping for on such a special occasion night. Hopefully this review helps someone because we were lead astray by others. We will probably not be back. read more

Finally made it to this restaurant after hearing a lot about it. The food was very good as was the service. The prices are high for the setting. Mostly I was really shocked by how different it is when compared to the photos on their website and find it hard to believe that the NY Times rated it "most romantic restaurant on Long Island". Sorry, its cute, but romantic? I do not think so. Yes, it is across the street from the beach playground but honestly, the best table in the house looks out at the street level parking lot in front and at night the headlights from cars parked there shine in your face. So, bottom line, go for the food and pleasant staff not for the view or romantic ambiance. read more

Had a great time at this restaurant, which was right next to the beach! We sat outdoors and ate dinner while the sun was setting. The seafood tower had a lot of variety and was fresh. I had the pappardelle pasta and my boyfriend had the duck leg confit, which was both delicious. Later, we got the molten chocolate banana bread with cinnamon ice cream, which was the cherry on top. Also, the waitress was really nice and she deducted the cost of dessert from our check cause we had waited a long time for it. I would definitely come back here! read more

Called to ask for a vegetarian friendly meal for a one of our party of 12. The person who answered said they could make pasta with butter or red sauce. I asked if they could add any vegetarian protein to it in the form of lentils, chickpeas or tofu. They said" no, one person is not enough" for them to make a special meal. I guess they are too rich and don't need the business. As a foodie, this is the first time I have been told this by a restaurant. Crazy that they could not accommodate for a reservation I was trying to make for the future. Not even for today. Even steakhouses such as Blackstone and Prime try to accommodate. I guess I will go there instead. I am sure it's a nice place, but best of luck here. read more

If I could give it 6 stars I would. The location is beautiful, but the truly beautiful thing is the gourmet food. La Plage has the best food I have had on the island, Michelin Star quality food, and as you can see from my reviews I have eaten at some really amazing places, the best places around. The food is perfectly seasoned, perfectly portioned, perfectly served. The drinks are spectacular! The wine selection is very good. The service is wonderful. There is simply nothing that isn't absolutely wonderful about this place...except maybe the far drive for most of us. And the fact that the GPS may not be so great at taking you to it won't help much. read more

I had the apple salad and loved it! I wanted to order three more. Then I had pan seared scallops, they were cooked perfectly and seasoned just right, so I could really enjoy the flavor and texture of the fish. Our group then had basically every dessert, all were delicious, but it was the fruit crumble that stood out. The service was attentive, but not annoying like some places that over do it. A duck dish.. duck dish.. from a long island farm.. woke up with this thought this morning.. 53 miles from manhattan.. made it La Plage.. what a restaurant.. service outstanding.. Wine.. local cabernet franc from Scheneider winery.. 2007. good balance, fruit, tannin, spices at the end.. opened up perfect. starters. octopus salad. the baby arugula so fresh and sweet.. the green peas and mint ravioli with lamb ragu.. awesome.. the duck confit on risotto with mushroom sauce.. YEAH.. and their special.. veal lamb chop with grilled greens and mushrooms.. well. I was supposed to get the duck breast.. but happy I chose the Veal Chop.. cooked just perfect. medium rare with crisp outside.. chewed on the bone at the end.. to finish. Peach cobbler.. the fruit from a local farm with ice cream.. coffee to finish.. second time .. a definite YES.. started the meal at 4:30 p.m. .. no reservations.. 3 to 4 other patrons..Perfecto . the summer in New York is to eat outside of manhattan.. a must.. keeps one sane mentally and happy in heart. read more

Every time I come to Long Island for the summer, I HAVE to eat here. It's beautiful, with stellar service, and the most simple and delicious menu. I have never once been disappointed. Much of substance already written about this fab spot, but it must be mentioned again that this is right across from a west-facing beach, so to be here at sunset after a day on the water, with a burn on your face and a gin and tonic in your hand is pretty near paradise. And after your meal you can walk it off by strolling around the corner to see the defunct Shoreham nuclear plant brooding there. Food for thought. read more

Exceeded expectations! Service was so warm and attentive (Kelly was our waitress). Started with cocktails and bartender came to check if we liked everything. I've been going to La Plage for a few years and always enjoy a meal there. The prix fixe is a great deal and food is authentic and delicious. I'm a big fan of the duck and risotto but the Rigatoni (with Sun Dried Tomato-Manchego Cheese Butter / Baby Spinach / Flambéed Shrimp / Aged Sherry) is out of this world. Restaurant is located across from a beach and features gorgeous views all year 'round. One time we went in the middle of a snow storm and saw a family of deer walking toward the water. If you're going out for dinner for the purpose of amazing food, this is it! Great setting across from the beach, small setting makes it very intimate and welcoming. Water glasses were constantly refreshed, which was nice. Great wine list. Salad was amazing...bacon risotto was a TEN! Dessert was good. This is my favorite Long Island restaurant. Easily the best in eastern Suffolk. The normal menu is above average in quality but the special nights like tonight's Lobster Feast are over the top. Raw clam and oyster starter followed by a mussel and steamed clam plate.Next course is ribeye steak, a whole lobster, and a whole bronzini. The bronzini was one of the best I ever had. Lot's of food. Well worth the price. Casual atmosphere across the street from the beach. Great service. If I have the capcity to eat again tomorrow I will go back for the 2nd night of the Lobster Feast.
