Absolutely lovely ambience & great service saved this from a 2-star, but the food was very underwhelming and a little gimmicky to be honest- especially for the cost. Almost $20 per salad for dishes you'd get at any mediocre chain restaurant. Plated fruits and veggies not the freshest or highest quality. Simple ingredients like tortilla chips didn't seem homemade. Tried it again for brunch since we were staying at the hotel and it was convenient - it was ok but definitely not the best value. I started with the Cesar salad, which wasn't particularly special other than having nice fresh tomatoes on it. My friend had the tomato salad and the tomatoes were big and fresh. But the star of the meal was the tortilla soup! It came out with a little pile of chicken, cheese, avocado and tortilla strips, then they poured in this extremely deep flavored broth. It was really yummy and a wonderful presentation. Not too spicy, more of a slow simmered spice. Great stop! read more

Piss-poor customer service! I called the La Plazuela and a recorded voice told me to make a reservation at opentable.com. But no combination of the restaurant name or hotel registered anything at opentable.com. So I called the restaurant back, got the same message, waited for the menu - which took a while - then pressed the button for the restaurant. Of course, I got the same recorded message, and this time pushed the button for the front desk. When the front desk answered, I tried to explain, but was transferred back to the restaurant for the same recorded message. This time I pushed the button for the concierge, who was surly and unapologetic and said I'd need to leave a credit card to make a reservation. I asked if anything would be charged to my card and he said he didn't know -- who'd leave a credit card number before knowing what would be charged on it? La Fonda should be made into a Motel 6 - you get better service at one of those. read more

This restaurant is awesome!! We ate there for lunch & dinner. Definitely try their margaritas...we'll-balanced with just the right kick. The queso is literally the BEST I've eaten (and I'm from Texas...we eat a lot of queso!). Respectable food and good service. This is a lovely setting in a historic hotel. Prices are reasonable. I would recommend reservations for dinner, especially during the Weekend. I did attempt to walk in for an early dinner on Sunday, however it was too busy for a table without a 45 min to 1 hr wait. I decided to come another day. Stared with a cup of the corn and green chili chowder - this was just the right mix of spice and creamy corn to warm me up on a nippy fall day. Very tasty and this really hit the spot. The green chilies had been roasted however it was not overly smoky in flavor. For the main entree, I ordered the Alaskan Sockeye Salmon. Not a typical Mexican restaurant menu item, and given that I had lived in the Seattle area, it would not normally have been my main choice. However, after quizzing the server a bit, I decided to take the gamble and order the salmon. I was NOT disappointed! The salmon was cooked perfectly, moist inside and the skin was crisped up nicely, for an added textural element. The salmon was served over a mushroom rissoto, which was very tasty, as well. From these two elements of the menu, I would not hesitate to return to La Plazuela in the future. read more

We finally went back after a year's absence and it was probably the worst "Mexican" or New Mexican food we've ever had! Come on guys, if you can't find someone who can cook New Mexican dishes in this town, there's really something wrong! Maybe try a google search for what Fajitas are supposed to look like? Unfortunately on this first time back we had four guests from out of town. Everyone's meal was disappointing (and embarrassing for us having suggested it). REALLY disappointing! Best Chile Rellenos in NM We've been coming to Santa Fe for many years and it is not worth coming without a stop a La Plazuela for their chile rellenos. Having lived in New Mexico, and traveled throughout New Mexico, there is no restaurant anywhere that has better chile rellenos. Wandered in to La PLazuela for a late lunch. The ambiance is very unique and romantic- the indoor "patio" is lined with trees and lights. I would agree with other Yelpers, the seating situation is a bit awkward. The 2-person tables are way too long, so you find yourself strangely far away from your partner. Food-wise, I think we were both just too burnt out on New Mexican food, so I got a panini and he got pasta. The pasta was very tasty, as were the sweet potato fries, but the panini was just average. I guess that's what I get for not ordering New Mexican cuisine at a restaurant that is highly rated for New Mexican cuisine. CARNITAS DE PUERCO ala PLAZUELA (?): I hope this is the name of the luncheon sandwich so savory that my laconic companion could not stop remarking on the perfect pork. I had the Santa Fe burrito w both the red and green chile sauces (they put half on one end and half on the other) while the red sauce was good (think a slightly spice enchilada sauce), the green chili sauce was GREAT. Just enough kick for those that like a lil spice in their life and GREAT flavor. We're going to eat there AGAIN in the morning b4 we leave town! Wife had an omlette and she loved it. We really didn't have to wait more than a few minutes for a table and the food came out quickly. Friendly staff, not overpriced food, just DAMN GOOD. Just arrived into Santa Fe and decided to eat in the hotel. The food was very tasty and full of flavors. I had the beef enchiladas with green chilies. It also came with pinto beans, pork posole and sopapillas with honey. I also ordered their bread plate which had French bread with real garlic cloves and blue corn bread and a rustic butter with red peppers. Everything was very good, a little spicier than I normally get. The sopapillas with the local honey was very delicious. Would give it a try if you're in the area. read more

This is our favorite restaurant in Santa Fe! So of course when my brother and sister in-law came to town from Ohio we wanted them to experience excellent food in Santa Fe. I have to say this review is only for the hostess desk and manager. Both of whom are completely unaware of the act of customer service. We arrived at the front desk without any greeting, hello, can I help you, Nothing! I asked Kayla if we could get a table and she said "there is an hour wait", so I asked her to put our name down and she refused once again saying "it's going to be a really long time". Guess what Kayla we were will to wait!! So I asked Kayla "are you telling me to go elsewhere because you would not take our name". She said "no, but was not going to take our name". After that I chased down the manager (I think), and told him about Kayla. He said "oh really, I will talk to her". Then he walked into the lounge area and began talking with 6 people at a table very loudly!and ignoring me! We come to La Fonda often since we live in Albuquerque, and we stay at the hotel too. I think other hotels and restaurants would like to have our business in the future!!! I am sooo disappointed and frankly it hurt my feelings! read more

If you need a break from enchiladas smothered to death in red or green chile and don't mind dining with a bunch of cotton tops (yes, Santa Fe does attract an older, retired crowd), La Plazuela is guaranteed to be your best dining option. The décor is charming, the ambiance is mellow and not too noisy, and the service is honest and professional. The food is fresh and a welcomed change from every other restaurant in town (surrounding the Plaza). The squash blossoms stuffed with local New Mexico goat cheese, lightly battered and fried with a fresh tomato salsa were deliciously creamy, yet light and delicate. The roasted chile poblano stuffed with sautéed broccolini, leeks, wild mushrooms and sweet corn, accompanied by roasted piñon couscous, artichoke-fingerling potato hash, sweet pea flan, roasted tomato coulis and balsamic syrup exceeded my expectations. The fresh ingredients were combined to form a creative and complex dish without sacrificing the true flavors of each ingredient. The red chile pork tamales were probably the best I've had in a long time, if not ever. The combination of tender, well-seasoned meat, moist masa and flavorful sauce made for the perfect tamale. The only minor letdown was dessert. The Mexican cake streusel served warm with roasted banana ice cream was a bit too heavy for this meal. Skipping dessert all together might have been the wiser choice. I highly recommend La Plazuela if you want New Mexican cuisine but with a healthier, gourmet twist. read more

Absolutely delicious dinner full of foods I have never had before! Tempura Squash blossoms, Cauliflower steak, & table side Guacamole. I eat a lot and I mean A LOT! So when I see something that I have not yet had I can't help but feel an extreme sense of joy and curiosity. First came the table side guacamole. Let me just say best Guac ever! Not only was it fresh but I also got to choose what went into it. Second came the goat cheese stuffed tempura style squash blossoms. I never knew a flower could taste so good. Perfectly crisp with just the right amount of warm melty cheese. We also had this with a side of melon soup which was just the right touch of refreshing for the hot weather. Last came the cauliflower steak which was a vegan dish! To my surprise it was just delightful! Who knew one giant stalk of cauliflower could taste so good! I love this restaurant and I will definitely be going bak the next time I'm in New Mexico. read more

This was our first visit ever. It was very busy. The food is authentic New Mexican and delicious however, it's pricier than some of the local restaurants that serve similar food. Full bar. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the hotel is historic. There was a glitch with my GF/DF fajita dish but they fixed it immediately. It seemed that were a lot of tourists eating and not as many locals which isn't a good sign of an authentic New Mexican restaurant but, this local fully approves. read more

Located inside of the historical rich Hotel La Fonda...next to the lobby and their buffet restaurant....the La Plazuela is a court yard style restaurant in the middle there's a small fountain and the ceiling have smokey tinted glasses where you can see the sky......there's also a observation deck upstairs I guess maybe it's for more seating options when the courtyard gets full we waited a bit since the breakfast has just ended ... but was quickly seated by the friendly servers....we started off with their chip and salsa...the chips were a bit hard but maybe it's their style the salsa was tastey with a little kick which was appetizing. then I ordered red chile carnitas tamales with side of black beans and seasoned chick peas.....Kathy ordered pan seared salmon with cous cous and veggies....they were wonderful!!! full of authentic robust flavors of mexican yumminess not too spicy but zesty with a little kick to it. for dessert we had the fluffy triangle bread thingy I forgot what it was called...and an Irish coffee which warmed us right up for the snow outside~ the service was decent...could be a little more attentive but it is a tourist attraction place so it wasn't bad I really liked the floral designed doors/windows/walls that surrounds the courtyard also there's a fire place in the back of the courtyard.... this is definitely a cool place to walk around, eat....I'd visit again if I go to Santa Fe in the future read more

La Plazuela is a nice place for a quiet dinner in a beautiful restaurant. The service is very good. The food is also very good, both Mex and non-Mex. My wife and I started with the stuffed squash blossom appetizer. This is a nice, light appetizer that is lightly fried. The goat cheese overpowers the delicate squash blossom a bit but the dish overall was very nice. For entree, my wife got the chile rellenos. They are as good as all the reviews say. Two very large chiles that are not overly fried, topped with a nice red chile that was not too spicy. The posole was very good, containing nice tender chunks of pork. I got the pork chop, which was very simply grilled and served with a demiglace that had a nice hint of sage. The fresh vegetable was broccolini, sautéed to a tender crisp. The fingerling potato salad was nothing specIal. All In all, a very nice meal. The restaurant is very quiet, so a nice place bring older people (like my mother in law) who may be hard of hearing.
