Visited La Plazuela in mid-October right after the balloon festival with a large party of nine. We picked it on a whim while walking around the neighborhood, which was packed with tourists. The dining area is in a large atrium within the La Fonda hotel. A calming fountain sits in the center of the room, surrounded by two mid-size trees, stained glass windows, and various other classic Sante Fe-style architectural design elements. A stunning atmosphere, albeit in a very tourist setting. The wait staff was pretty attentive. I was impressed that they were able to sit a large party of nine with only about a ten-minute wait. The food was pretty good. My wife and I split the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and the French dip. Both were tasty. I preferred the enchiladas, my wife liked the French dip. I will say that it's not a great place for kids. Although there is a kids' menu, the items are overpriced and underwhelming--even by kids' meal standards. Overall a good meal, but next time I'm in Santa Fe I'll probably check out other options. read more

We chose this location specifically for the decor and aesthetics. Its a lively kind of space. Lighting is amazing and the food was great. Not picture was the bread charcuterie, it came with several types of bread and butter and it was delicious. My favorites for the evening were the crab cakes, bread bowl appetizer, pork shoulder and the prime rib. Why are chefs so unimaginative with vegetarian food? The tiny cauliflower tacos featured boiled, tasteless, slightly watery cauliflower left in large chunks with a spicy hot but not savory or tasty sauce and a piece of fried avocado. There were some nice black beans & rice on the side. But this meal was $27? Combined with $6 coffee, it was an infuriatingly bad meal at a lovely hotel. Haven't been back to Santa Fe for 9 years, but knew we had to go to La Plazuela at La Fonda, the hotel on the square. Had lunch here twice in a week end! First time we shared chili rellenos, which came with pork pozole, black beans and guacamole. Yummy! And we both had plenty to eat. Today I had a bowl of that pork pozole (it isn't on the menu, you have to ask) it was so good! Husband had chicken tortilla soup, which he loved, and we shared a caesar, which was ok. La Plazuela is the signature restaurant within La Fonda hotel, and it sits at the very center, providing a picture-perfect view of the dining area from all sides. You'd think that'd create the dining experience of a goldfish bowl, but with the fountain, the trees, and all the twinkling lights overhead, there's nothing but a hushed and lovely ambience. We dined here for breakfast as soon as it opened. My husband ordered a custom omelette, which he was happy enough with until my Huevos Oaxacas arrived at the table, looking every bit the adult happy meal. A standard egg and cheese platter is elevated here to include poblano peppers, onions, salsa roja, black beans, and some sumptuous potatoes. The crisped tortilla strips made for an especially great pop of texture. It was - without hyperbole - the most flavorsome breakfast I've ever had, and once my husband snagged a bite, he, too, pronounced it "the best breakfast ever". We're planning on dining here again tomorrow - mostly because the husband now wants his own order of Huevos Oaxacas - but I don't doubt that everything else on the menu is par excellence. Service was entirely professional from the front hostess and the servers, and there was no rush to shoo us away once we finished our meal, which we appreciated since this is a gorgeous place to sit and enjoy a view. read more

Chips were fresh and hot, the salsa good, not too spicy.​ The margaritas were decent.​ For appetizers, we shared a bowl of tortilla soup and the house Caesar salad. Both were excellent. The soup was expertly seasoned, with the depth of flavor of an authentic Mexican tortilla soup. Fancy place to have a last dinner in Santa Fe. Located in a beautiful hotel, we made reservations and were seated immediately. The hostess isn't the warm and friendliest, but it only lasted less than a minute so it was fine. Our waiter was SUPER kind and attentive. A shame that the artisanal bread board wasn't available that night, but we love it when restaurants make their own spin on caesar salads, so we ordered the La Fonda Caesar. My fiance is usually meh with caesar salads, but I love it. In the end, we both really enjoyed it! It tasted as if the dressing had cheese in it and it just tasted like it was a really good high quality caesar salad that you can't get from your local supermarket. My fiance ordered the enchilada which tasted rich and I thought it was enjoyable. I ended up ordering the Blue Plate Special of the day, which was a papperdelle pasta with pesto and mussels. Absolutely delicious! I enjoy mussels, but I tend to not crave for it, but I was really happy with my choice. You'd expect a total of maybe 2 teeny tiny mussels, but they ended up giving me like a whole handful of super chunky pieces that went really well with the pasta! I could have probably gotten full just from eating the mussels. The noodles were also not overly soggy with the sauce and tasted so divine. I finished my dish pretty fast. We didn't stay at the La Fonda hotel, but we visited this historic hotel and shopped and had brunch at the restaurant, which is located off the lobby in a multi-story atrium. The natural light, surrounding Southwest charm, and fountain make for a calm and enjoyable space in a very busy hotel. I had an omelet with avocado, onions and mushrooms, along with potatoes and toast. Everything was exceedingly tasty, all ingredients fresh. One of the better omelets I have had in both presentation and taste. Ketchup on request was served in small bowl (not ketchup bottle brought to table). Servers wore gloves and the service was exceptional (multiple servers attending to every need). The food and ambience surpassed my expectations, it's well-worth dining here even if you are not staying at the hotel. read more

The atmosphere of La Plazuela was so intriguing I knew I had to have at least one meal while visiting Santa Fe. The burrito was good, fantastic flavor reached with the chorizo they use. It was a plus in my book for not being super greasy. PANCAKES Choice of Buttermilk | Blueberry | Blue-Corn Piñon Whipped Butter | Fresh Seasonal Berries Maple Syrup - we HAD to try it. Everyone in Santa Fe insisted we get pancakes with pine nuts. The experience was good, it gave it texture and a pine nutty essence, next time I might try the waffles. There's hotel parking but you can eventually find parking on the street somewhere. The restaurant is in La Fonda, which is historic and lovely. They were running 30 minutes behind (we did have a reservation), but this wasn't a problem. There was an extreme amount of people, but this wasn't a surprise. If you can't handle the crowds, don't choose Santa Fe at Christmas time! Absolutely gorgeous setting inside the historic old La Fonda hotel on the square in Santa Fe. We started with cocktails in the bar while we waited on our table. I had the Santa Fe Smash which was just perfect, and I finished it as we were called. The service is always great. For an appetizer we had the tomato tarte with goats cheese and salmon with poached egg. We had a half bottle of rosé which works out as a large glass each, just right. For main courses, I had the scallops with wild mushroom ravioli, which was perfectly seasoned and delicious. My partner had the Filet y enchiladas. The steak was a bit rarer than he'd ordered, but he ate it anyway. We were too full for dessert, but we had the complimentary sopapilla after our meal. Will definitely go back. Located in La Fonda Hotel, the restaurant is wrapped around a lovely fountain that makes for a special-feeling environment. There is a calm and laid-back energy to the place that allows you to enjoy your company and food. It was so laid back at a point that we wondered if there was a waiter assigned to our table, but when they found out we had been waiting just a little they brought us complimentary chips and salsa, which more than made up for our short wait. We also split the Caesar Salad and the Campfire Trout with fingerling potatoes and crispy bacon. Each dish was very tasty - and the trout was the perfect combination of crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. Overall, a lovely restaurant with fresh, tasty food. Enjoyed a lovely lunch at this Santa Fe hotel restaurant during a recent vacation. There was a small wait for our table, which allowed us to explore the lobby area and history on the walls. The restaurant itself could not be more inviting. Bright, large windows, greenery, and beautifully appointed to boot. We had a lovely table situated near the interior fountain and had a wonderful, speedy server helping us. The lunch menu has some lovely options - from light fare like salad to something more substantial like a fried chicken sandwich. I ordered the margarita and my date got a beautiful and delicious botanical gin and tonic. Don't skip the lunchtime drinks! They were both excellent. For lunch, I went with the chicken salad, served on bibb lettuces with yummy crostini and loaded up with fruit and nuts. It was just the refreshing thing I needed to continue the day of shopping. This restaurant is in a cute courtyard setting in the middle of La Fonda. We liked the tableside guacamole but felt the chips were not up to par. For $22 guacamole, I thought we'd get legit chips, you know? I ordered the enchiladas and they were so good. I got them with both green and red chile (Christmas). The dish comes with pozole served on the plate, very tasty. I usually have it in a bowl, it was different but delicious. This was my second time here. My mom and I came for my birthday. :) You definitely come here for the cute courtyard/atrium that everyone eats in. It's so cute with all the trees and lights. Definitely a little upscale but nothing too crazy. Food is really delicious. I had the Chile relleños which were great and my mom really enjoyed her meal as well. Our server was super rude and standoffish, and if I say that on here you know it's bad because I worked restaurant for 7.5 years and I'm pretty forgiving. He was terrible and catty, we were not impressed hence the four star. The hotel and restaurant are in the most prime location in Santa Fe, right on the plaza, and the staff and service was so incredible, attentive, warm, and welcoming! We had such a great bites and cocktails here, and every single person that served us was so kind and polite and wonderful! The restaurant was also decorated beautifully during the holidays, and we came here for breakfast on Christmas, which was absolutely incredible. Stopped in for a couple of drinks while figuring out dinner plans. This is the lounge in the La Fonda. We sat at the bar and had excellent service from the bartender. There was live music playing which added to the overall ambiance. We had a few drinks and a charcuterie board. The drinks were very watery and you couldn't taste any alcohol in them at all. The charcuterie board was good. A small selection of items but not bad for the $21 price tag. The bar area was crowded and it's definitely a popular spot. We would have stayed longer for the music but the overpriced week drinks weren't sufficient. If I was staying at the La Fonda I might spend more time here but there are so many other places to check out. read more
