I made a reservation for Lemon Grove on a Saturday at 1:15 PM and was seated around 1:30. Despite being short-staffed, the host was absolutely fantastic. He went above and beyond, helping clear tables, bringing us water, and making sure guests were taken care of while the restaurant was clearly stretched thin. After being seated, we waited quite a while for our server. I eventually noticed what I believe was a manager stop by our table to check on us and ask if we had any questions. Since we had been ready to order for some time, I asked if we could simply place our order with her. She was delightful, helpful, and very accommodating. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, breakfast potatoes, dinosaur kale salad, chicken sandwich, and burger. Everything was flavorful and delicious, but the burger was definitely my favorite. Combined with the beautiful weather and atmosphere, it made for a very enjoyable brunch. The biggest downside was the service speed. Our waiter was incredibly kind, but because the restaurant appeared to be understaffed, he was rarely able to stop by. There were long waits between ordering, receiving food, and getting assistance throughout the meal. It never felt like poor service from the staff themselves--it felt more like a staffing issue. towards the end, I had to remind the waiter that we were celebrating a birthday (it was in my notes, and two people in person were also told, but the waiter maybe forgot). When the tab came, I had to remind the waiter that I had already provided payment at the time of arrival. The delays continued when we were leaving. We needed parking validation and waited about 5-10 minutes because the host had stepped away and there was no one else available to assist. By the time we left, parking had cost us $33 for roughly 2.5 hours. Overall, the food, atmosphere, host, and manager were excellent, and the staff who were there worked hard under difficult circumstances. Had staffing been planned a little better, I suspect this would have been an easy 5-star experience and our visit would have taken closer to an hour or hour and a half instead of stretching much longer. Hopefully management addresses the staffing challenges, because the restaurant itself is definitely worth visiting. read more

Last night, my family and I visited the bar and lounge area of this business. Initially, I was excited about returning because I really enjoyed the music, location, and overall ambiance. Unfortunately, our experience at the end of the evening completely changed my impression of the place. As the venue was preparing to close, a tall security guard approached our table and informed us that they would be closing in 10 minutes. My sister politely responded, "Sounds good," but for some reason, the security guard interpreted her response as dismissive and became confrontational. We tried to explain that "sounds good" was simply an acknowledgment and was not intended to be rude or disrespectful. Rather than de-escalating the situation, the security guard became increasingly defensive and aggressive. He raised his voice, spoke to our group in an unprofessional manner, and made racial comments that were not necessary. At one point, his actions felt so aggressive that it seemed as though he was attempting to provoke physical confrontation. This is the type of business that prides itself on providing an upscale experience but the customer service felt other wise. I hope management reevaluates the third-party security company they partner with and ensures that security personnel represent the same level of professionalism as the rest of the establishment. read more

I was invited to Lemon Grove for my cousin's birthday dinner, and my first impression was how cute the space is. The rooftop setting has a great atmosphere and makes for a fun place to celebrate a special occasion. We used valet parking, but there is also street parking and paid public parking nearby. Since we were a large group, we got to try a good portion of the menu, and honestly, everything we ordered was good. The prices were fair as well, especially considering the location and rooftop experience. The reason I'm taking off a star is the service toward the end of the evening. About 30 minutes before closing, our server kept returning to the table, and we started to feel rushed. He also made a few sarcastic comments that seemed intended as jokes, but they didn't come across that way to our group. Overall, the food, atmosphere, and value were all great. Lemon Grove was a great surprise. I booked it simply because it was near the Pantages Theatre, and I needed convenience. When I arrived, I was surprised that the restaurant is located on the rooftop! It was a combination of an elegant and fun vibe along with the music and the 2 large bars. One bar is out in the open and the second one is in the covered area of the restaurant. So you can sit out and enjoy the sunny weather and views, or you can sit at the covered part of the restaurant. As you enter you will also see a few lemon trees, plants and herbs. You also get a great view of the city. The food choices are unique like the pasta I ordered with a lemon cream sauce. The portions are small, but the food is delicious. Randomly came across Lemon Grove when in Hollywood and decided to grab some brunch. It's conveniently located inside the Aster Hotel's rooftop and there were luckily still tables available. We did not have reservations and were still seated promptly. Service was great - Our server Travis was really nice and checked in on us often. Food was delicious! The dishes looked simple but actually packed a lot of flavor. The Pearamount+ cocktail was so tasty. It had no alcoholic taste and was so smooth which made it dangerous. I went here yesterday at 5:00 PM to celebrate my birthday, and unfortunately, it ended up being a really disappointing experience. We were the first customers there, and I ordered the cacio e pepe with a side of chicken. When the dish came out, the chicken was raw. I cut into it to double check, and it was clearly pink inside. I let our server know, and she was kind and took it back right away. What was frustrating, though, was how it was handled. Instead of making a fresh portion, it seemed like the same piece of chicken was just put back on the grill and returned to me. It came back extremely overcooked, dry, and completely inedible. Beyond that, it was concerning from a food safety standpoint that the same piece of chicken was reused after being served and handled. They did remove the cost of the chicken, which I appreciate, but we still paid around $120 for the rest of the meal. Given the situation--especially since this was meant to be a birthday dinner--the overall experience did not feel worth it. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously. read more

Life always presents unique circumstances and synchronicity. It is hard to explain, but one should simply enjoy. Case in point, my friend and I were going to see Spamalot at the Pantages Theatre, so I wanted to find a restaurant for lunch walking distance before the matinee. We ended up going to Lemon Grove at the Astor hotel, which was an incredible experience. I had never heard of this joint prior to dining there. After posting my review and pictures, I got a very nice response from the manager on Monday and then on Tuesday two very dear friends who are twins invited me to their birthday party that Friday night at the Lemon Grove where one of the sister's daughters is the DJ. We had half of the entire roof for a great party with wonderful friends meeting new people, some DJing and dancing and a marvelous server who remembered not only my name from the prior Sunday, but also that I was gluten intolerant and brought me a menu I could select from while she was taking care of over 50 people. And as you can tell I am so shy and demure to boot. She was fantastic, and the food I ordered: GF Lemon Pasta and 1/2 dozen oysters while sharing the Brussels Sprouts, were all superb. The GF lemon pasta in a pesto sauce did not have any chance to avoid my boca and I left no penne unturned nor uneated. Excellent service and beautiful rooftop views! My go to drink has been the Cactus Flower; it can be a bit too sweet, but you can ask the server to adjust it a bit with a little more mezcal! I usually order the burrata caprese because it is flavorful and light and a great start to dinner. I love Thai food, so I usually order the lemon pasta, which has nothing to do with a lemon citrus flavor, by the way! One time I added chicken to this pasta dish and didn't enjoy it as much as the pasta itself. Their dessert menu hasn't been updated so ask your server for dessert options. They have valet for $30 but also several parking lots within the area. Loved the vibe. Located on the 6th floor in a hotel called The Asher. Indoor and outdoor seating. There was a bar adjacent to the restaurant so had good music to listen to without it being too loud. We ordered the burrata for our appetizer which was a great start with some cocktails and then wanted to try their signature lemon pasta. I was apprehensive at first as it just didn't sound like lemon and pasta were a great combination. Surprised how good it tasted and it was a very pretty plate. Also got the short rib rigatoni which I actually liked much better though. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt. The views are iconic LA, u can literally see the Hollywood sign and Capitol Records Tower while sipping your mimosa. The whole place hits that perfect balance between laid back and stylish. It's ideal for lazy weekends when you want to brunch somewhere cute without going full "dress to impress," but also not roll up in diner casual. The drinks are spot on, the bar team knows what they're doing. And the food is so good. Every dish we ordered hit the mark. For an appetizer we ordered the aster meatballs, bread and sauce were great, I'm not the biggest meatball fan though. For entrees we got the half roasted chicken and the Lemon pasta. Big portion for the chicken, enough for leftovers. Lemon pasta was good, more of a curry flavor/ Thai inspired Italian dish - definitely one to try. Sadly too full for dessert. Overall a good meal, sitting next to the bar the noise level does vary a bit, outside seating may be preferred. My significant other and I went with friends to a show at the Pantages and we were looking for a restaurant to visit before the show. So happy that we found the Lemon Grove! The restaurant is on top of the Aster Hotel. The rooftop has a bar area, and then the restaurant area which has indoor and outdoor seating available. There are also sofas and chairs outside that are available if a special event is not taking place. Because of the time of year, we opted for indoor seating in case it was super hot outside. The ambiance is indoor/outdoor, which I love. The drinks and food were great. I had what I am personally calling "The World Famous Lemon Pasta"...it was so delicious and I can't wait to get it again. Our server mentioned it was more like a curry rather than a lemon sauce, which I assume is because a lot of people may not be familiar with Tom Kha. It was absolutely delicious. After we finished our dinner, we had some time to kill and enjoyed drinks sitting in the outdoor lounge area. The views are great and the vibe is chill. I loved the view of the Capitol Records tower, as it is an old workplace of mine. Lots of Hollywood nostalgia viewable from the rooftop. Wow. What an experience. We came here expecting a nice dinner, but it was disappointing from the moment we walked in. Both hosts were rude and made us feel like we were inconveniencing them. At one point they told us we had to leave by 8:00 PM even though it was only around 6:30 and the restaurant wasn't closing for hours. The place was nearly empty, so it made no sense. The service didn't get any better. The lemon pasta was bland and honestly not worth the price at all. Then, to top it off, I ended up with gum stuck to my leg from under the table. That was disgusting. If I'm paying $150+ for a meal, I expect much better food, cleaner tables, and staff that actually make guests feel welcome. It's over-priced, but this is the heart of a tourist district, and it's not outrageously over-priced enough to make you mad. I had the Cabbage Tikka Masala and it was okay if a bit lacking. They straight up give you a full cabbage with the ends cut off, all the other ingredients as a slaw on top, and sauce on the side that's not enough for the amount of cabbage they give you. I really was just eating sauceless cabbage half the time. If you get one, ask for a steak knife because you'll need it. Came here on a Wednesday night before a Pantages show. No reservation required, but the bar was full so they set up a table for us with a fireplace. It's a roof top bar or there is also a restaurant on top of the Astoria. Very nice, classy and cozy decor. And honestly pretty quiet. Just soft music. The service was good. Our bartender made some amazing martinis. We were there just in time for happy hour 5-7pm. So we got two drinks and some bar bites, a hamburger and Mac and cheese. Highly recommend both. Lemon Grove is located on the top floor of the Aster, they have valet next door but I recommend driving a block down vine to the self parking which is half the price. The restaurant has a cool indoor/outdoor vibe, and is good for groups or a date night. While I loved the ambiance, service was pretty disappointing. Things started off well with our server helping us when we were seated, but after that getting someone to help us was very difficult. The staff barely checked in on us, never refilled water, and getting more drinks in required us to flag staff down constantly. The same issue happened with getting the check, which required us to have to chase someone down after one of our servers forgot about us. We had a 20% service charge baked into our check because of our larger group (which I totally understand doing for larger groups), but it definitely stung a bit paying that when the service wasn't good. On the food front, we got a wide variety of items from the menu, but nothing really stood out. The hamachi crudo was probably the most disappointing thing because the fish wasn't very fresh, but everything else we got (meatballs, dinosaur kale salad, beef tartare, broccolini, lemon pasta) was fine. Overall, I think this place is worth visiting for some drinks and maybe light bites, but not sure it's worth coming for dinner. read more
