I ordered the creamy chipotle shrimp taco plate and the portion was very generous (I honestly couldn't finish it)! Everything was fresh, crispy, and perfectly cooked with just the right amount of spice. The complimentary chips and salsa were also a great touch. Warm, fresh, and really tasty. We managed to get some food while the happy hour was going, we started with done ahi tuna tostadas and queso fundido which were both really good. We also received some chips and salsa provided which had a nice smoky salsa that was really good. we ended up ordering a variety of tacos with flavors like carnitas, street corn, and grilled shrimp, beef, that were soo good. The calm location with the view of the Hollywood sign and heated patio made it much more enjoyable. If you're in the area, come check this place out. Definitely a great place for a high energy group or a date if you don't mind leaning close to talk as the music is pretty loud. The service was quick and attentive. The food was overall a hit. You can tell it's all made in house with good quality ingredients. Incredible value for the price, especially if you get the combo where you can pick any 3 items (enchiladas or tacos). I love this option as I like to try a little of everything. The Tempura Baja Fish Taco was really tasty. So was the Carnitas, Enchiladas Suisas and Mole Enchiladas. The salad was good, and the street corn was really tasty if you got a bite with everything on it, but a little bland at the bottom. The chips were amazing, you can tell they are made fresh in house. La Popular is an incredible new spot to hang and enjoy your Hollywood afternoon. We had the pleasure of having Anthony as our wonderful server and he lead with kindness and was so fun! I suggest the breakfast burrito as there are French fries in it and pearl that with the side salad or even a solid trio of fish tacos to share. The salsa is amazing that comes with the chips and like real Mexico City cuisine there is a freshness that is undeniable. There is a tequila cart that is taken around with all sorts of juices, nectars and horchata for you to enjoy the mixers of. Mia was awesome and explained it all to us as she carted it around the entire restaurant. Tuesday will be when we come here again as it's all day happy hour and drinks within the $7 and $8 range. Also Sunday brunch is a must as it starts at 10am and ends around 3pm and it's only on Sundays so this is perfect for a post church stop thru. Wow! We were staying at the Lowe's hotel across the street and this place was a great find. The cocktails, the food, and the ambience were amazing. We sat outside under one of their heaters on a cool evening enjoying the multiple fire features on the patio. We started with their salsa tray which had some really interesting options. Then I had the combo plate that allowed me to choose 3 tacos and enchiladas. Finally, we finished with the butter cake, which was a must order item. I came to this place last Friday after work, and I had a nice dinner. Place is new inside the Ovation Hollywood across shoe palace. It has a very compact menu so you don't have to overthink what to get. I went for the mahi mahi tacos plate. It came with 3 street tacos, Mexican rice and refried beans. The fish tasted fresh and well seasoned. I also ordered a grapefruit Paloma and a margarita, both strong but refreshing. Their chips and salsas were great too! I saw two ladies walking around with a tequila/drinks cart. I was by myself so they didn't stop at my table. Everyone working that night was on top of everything making sure you sure go back. Inside and outside seating. Clean restroom, and partial parking validation. I will definitely be back soon. I was very worried this place would be an overpriced tourist trap considering the location I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, service and foods quality. Cool new spot inside the Hollywood & Highland mall right across from Shoe Palace and next to The Win-Dow burger counter. Super convenient with parking in the structure. This place brings Mexico City flavors. We started with the guacamole and added the steak chicharrón, highly recommend. The tuna tostadas were fresh, bright, and perfectly seasoned. For mains, we split the quesabirria tacos and the combo plate (shrimp taco, short rib quesadilla, and steak taco). The quesabirria was rich, cheesy, and satisfying, served with rice and beans. The combo plate is ideal if you want to sample a bit of everything. The shrimp taco had a nice kick, the enchilada was comforting, and the steak taco held its own. Dessert was churros with both chocolate and dulce de leche sauces. The dulce de leche won by a mile. Warm, soft churros...perfect ending. Drinks-wise, get the Forbidden Paradise Mule if you're into Mexican candy/chamoy vibes. Spectacular, give me 14 of them. We had a reservation at 6 PM, and arrived a little early. Our waitress was awesome, she said we made it in time to enjoy Happy Hour prices ( 5-6 PM), and so we were quick to order to take advantage of the prices. My wife ordered a Margarita and we also enjoyed the guacamole at Happy Hour prices. We were also able to order their street tacos at $4 each which were amazing, we had the grilled shrimp, ribeye, chicken and carnitas, as well as the corn salad. The service and food were great. They were running a great value lunch special where you get an appetizer and entree for a set price. All 3 of us ordered combos of apps and entrees so we could try several things. Everything was delicious and the portions were very generous. We had left overs, even for lunch. Everything was seasoned well and came out quickly. Big call out for the Carnitas and Ribeye tacos, guacamole, and Mexican rice. Again, all of it was delicious, but those stood just a hair above the rest. My guess is they were not expecting to be as busy as they were because a concert was happening next door and I heard from a local that was at the bar that she had never seen them that busy since they opened so I will totally give them grace for the long wait times and the confusion with reservations and table openings.
