At its core, the Monte Cristo was made as a double decker with ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese. The assembled sandwich is then dipped into an egg batter or custard and pan fried or deep fried until golden. Kind of a French toast vibe. Been here a couple of times. Had to wait 15-20 minutes both times prior to seating for a party of 2 during the late morning/noon time frame. The place is packed, and consequently loud and vibrant. There was both indoor and outdoor seating and parking was not an issue. The staff was kind and the food came fast and hot. The croissant/jam was delicious! The jam in particular was probably the best part of the meal. It was smooth and fresh, and wasn't very sweet. Omelette was well-seasoned and very filling. Oh my goodness, although this is a brand new location and the aesthetic is more modern than provincial, it still stirs up memories of the first time I visited La Provence in the early 1990's at the original Lake Oswego location, where it really did have a whimsical Provençal touch. The whole reason that I found out about this place is that my physical therapist who happened to be from Belgium told me he owns this little restaurant in Lake Oswego. Fast forward to 1996, me and my husband, who is French and is also now my ex, we just moved back to the US, after spending a year abroad, and visited La Provence. My ex husband was from Paris and he didn't realize but he was a bit of a food snob. But he declared that he approved of La Provence. I'm an eggs Benedict snob and a pain au chocolate snob (chocolate croissant). They serve their Benedict upon a croissant and put the other half on top. It looked a daunting task. I had to request a steak knife to cut through all the layers. The hollandaise sauce was perfection. The side of sweet butternut squash was wonderful. Our server checked in with us regularly to see if we needed anything else or more coffee. She was great. The La Provence Vancouver location is huge! Lots of tables and there is indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of parking! We stopped by for brunch on a holiday and it was packed.  We were told it would be a 30 minute wait but it was closer to an hour. We had nine in our party. Athough it was a longer wait, we were happy we all got to sit at the same table.  Our table initially was short one chair and the table made us crowd each other. An employee quickly switched out the smaller for a longer table so were more comfortable.  Our server Daryn was AMAZING! She was quick to get our order, checked in on us multiple times for condiments, refills, to clear our plates, and get us boxes for leftovers.   We love the Risotto Cakes and Eggs here. That is our go-to. Also got a bowl of the French Onion soup.  The soup was flavorful with a good amount of toasted bread and cheese.  The rest of our group ordered the: Monte Cristo, Baked Eggs a La Francaise, Strawberry Cheesecake Pancakes, and Wild Northwest Salmon Hash. All the food was delicious and large enough of a portion to share or to take home leftovers. We were all very happy with our meal and the service.  Stopped by the bakery to take home an assortment of macarons.  You can also take home plain and chocolate croissants to take home to bake.  FYI:  An 18% service charge is added to your bill for groups of six or more. One of the few places we love for brunch in Vancouver. It's always crazy busy on weekends so if you don't get there early enough, expect a 20-45 minute wait. The staff is really friendly and their jam and croissant are sooo good! The croissant is light and fluffy. Our favorite items we usually always order are either the salmon hash or the corned beef hash and we always get the banana French toast and their tuna melt! They also have a bakery off to the side in the restaurant where you can order and take sweets to go! They also sell their delicious rapsberry jam in 2 different sizes that you can also take home. Much needed and welcome addition to East Vancouver! One warning, don't come here if you're in a rush. Long wait times and the food doesn't come out very quickly. But brunch should be leisurely so I had no issues with this! Our brunch cocktails were delicious as could be and the salmon hash I had was absolutely tasty. So good, filling enough but not too heavy. My husband had the risotto cakes which were extremely flavorful and rich, amazing! The star of the meal though was the Versailles cake... I will be coming here for many more desserts. Fast forward 15 years and, no surprise, the admiration for La Provence hasn't changed a bit. When you dine at La Provence you're transported to a patisserie in the heart of France. From the exquisite croissants to the outstanding staff, this place has it all. I'm also happy to report it's my go-to place for a Jalapeño Bloody Mary. This is the Bloody Mary that made me fall in love with Bloody Mary's. I crafted to perfection! The food is downright delicious. I won't bore you with the out-of-body experience I have every time I order something from their menu, you'll just have to experience it for yourself. The food, as with other visits, was delicious and came out in a timely manner despite the time...mahalo to the chef. And the outdoor dining was great and cleaned well, so my family and I enjoyed it. However, we would have preferred slightly more attentive service as we waited on condiments requested earlier but had to request them again, did not get our water refilled until requested, and waited a long while before we got the attention of our server for our bill. My darling daughter took me to brunch for my birthday. I've been here several times and completed a review, so, this review will be my words and wit, but her perspective! As soon as we entered the door, it was clear we were in for an extended wait time. They're kinda known for the LONG wait times. We were greeted immediately, and told a 40-minute wait, so we asked if the covered patio was heated. The answer was a cheerful "yes", followed by the magical words "we can seat you right now on the patio." We live in the PNW so as usual it was POURING rain and about 36°. The heaters were minimally helpful, but in keeping with my personal goal of choosing to be happy, we just bundled up in our warm jackets and hats. The inside is cozy and decorated quite well with high end touches like real ceramic tile used throughout. The bathroom was a little sketchy, which really displeased me. We waited a tad bit longer for the wait staff to come take our order, but Colby was worth the wait. Colby isn't some kid trying to make tuition money. He's definitely a professional waiter, which he confirmed by telling us where he has worked. Quite the pedigree of high-end establishments. Colby was funny, thoughtful and very thoroughly knew the menu. Since it was my birthday, I splurged on a White Chocolate Latte while my daughter stuck to an Americano. We also ordered our entrees. I opted for the Baked Eggs a la Francaise. It was very, very good. I ordered scrambled eggs in place of poached eggs. It's very savory and rich and to be honest, I only ate a tiny bit. Colby reassured me that very few people eat the whole thing. The standout for me was the ridiculous (in a great way!) amount of cheese. A blend of Gruyère Béchamel and Swiss Cheese tops the entire meal like a delicious, edible warm blanket and with the toasted baguette slices made for a delicious fondue of sorts. I was very happy with my meal. I thought $15.50 was a reasonable price. My daughter couldn't decide as everything sounded so good! She did opt for the La Provence Benedict. Served on a GIANT croissant (about the size of a football) in place of English Muffins. She opted for Provençal Potatoes and Butternut Squash as her side. At $16.75, she had high expectations. The eggs were cooked to perfection! The croissant is definitely the star in this dish. She LOVED it, but knew I was doing a review so she took a deeper dive into the meal and felt it was bland, especially the eggs, ham and butternut squash. Hence the four stars in stead of five. The coffee arrived after our food, but was delightful. Hers was a typical Americano, while mine was a perfect combo of white chocolate sweetness and warmth. Colby quickly took our payment and we said goodbye to a great guy whom we now consider a friend! Running errands and shopping worked up a bit of an appetite and stopping at one of my favorite cafes sounded like a good idea. I was fortunate enough to park close as all the handicapped spots were full. There seemed to be an inordinate amount of people milling about outside so I prepared myself for a very long wait which is to be expected. But the hostess assured me I could be seated immediately at a table in the bar as I was alone. Once I saw the extremely limited menu I remembered it was Father's Day. My server was extremely accommodating and let me alter the abundantly loaded omelette that was featured. I just wanted a simple dish of eggs so I ordered a cheese omelette with bacon on the side with the complimentary croissant and tea. The omelette was delivered immediately but was filled with copious amounts of ingredients. I mentioned that I just wanted cheese to the surprise of the very helpful waiter. My server assured him it was not my order so I enjoyed my delicious pot of tea. However, the tea was the only part of the meal worth consuming. When the server brought the correct order I was anxious to indulge but was unfortunately greeted with a rock hard omelette that was brown on the outside and absent of salt or any flavor whatsoever. As I peeled back the omelette I could see that it was not prepared as a French, or American, egg dish. It was not fluffy, soft or tender. It was hard and tough. The bacon was extremely greasy, cold and hard. The grease was off putting so I decided to try the croissant. Again, it was so greasy that when I tried to separate the layers it actually left a great amount grease all over my fingers. My first experience at this location was definitely my last. The first location of choice is still Division in Portland and Lake Oswego is my second. Avoid Vancouver until someone is hired that can correctly make an omelette, fry some bacon or bake croissants. read more

We really enjoyed this place! Went with some friends on a Sunday morning and the wait was only 10 minutes. By the time we left there was a line at the door. They had plenty of outdoor seating as well. Our server Emily was very friendly and efficient for as busy as the place was. We started with mimosas, I had orange and my friend had a raspberry. They came with a little flower on top. Both very good, but the orange had pulp which I wasn't crazy about. Still tasted awesome. We shared a croissant with their special jam and it was super fresh and flaky. I ordered the Ultimate Polenta and it was delicious and filling. It came with two poached eggs on top and filled with spinach, mushrooms and bacon. There was so much I had to take half home in a box. My friend had the Risotto Cake and Eggs which was also excellent and filling. The cases throughout the restaurant are full of French pastries and we wanted to try all, but settled on the Black Beauty to take with us. This was my fist visit to the new Vancouver location, and I was very impressed! This location is very large, is easy to get to, and has plenty of parking, and somehow manages to exude lots of class and a bit of opulence without seeming at all pretentious of off-putting. Their COVID-19 precautions and protocol are great (one-way flow of traffic through the bakery, separate bakery entrance, hostess stationed outdoors for outdoor-only dining), lots of prominent signage, etc. Staff is friendly and attentive, and was able to rectify a problem with my internet order on the spot and more than satisfactorily. The baked goods are absolutely the best, and I'm happy to see a few new items here that I've not seen at their other locations. Everything about this place makes me happy. The decor, the foods, and staff are all top-notch. It's a French-themed place, so get your boujee on. Seriously though, it's a nice looking place; clean and well-lit. It also happens to be their newest opening. They are largely known for their pastries, and rightfully so. Before I get to that, let's talk about their lunch/normal foods menu. My boyfriend ordered their Corned Beef Hash and I ordered the Breakfast Shrimp & Chorizo Polenta. Both dishes were very yummy and fulfilling. The only thing is, on the Corned Beef Hash, the horseradish-cream sauce, can be a bit sharp to the pallet like wasabi. We also ordered a Tiramisu cake to-go. Small serving size, but boy was it huge on flavor. Rich in flavor, the right amount of sweetness, and makes you go, "Mmm let's get another one". Upon walking in, I felt like i was back in france. My eyes consumed all the beautiful pastries displayed, the decor and seemingly pleasant staff. The smell of sugar and bread filled my nose and brought nothing but joy to my heart. Today, I ordered the cubano benedict. Let me tell you. The explosion of flavor took me by surprise. Most places I have encountered here that have cubanos, the flavor jst isn't there. But here it was delicious. Nothing needed to be added. The pork was tender, and the combination of the saltiness from the ham and from the pickles gave it a beautiful mix of savory and salty. Dont get me started on the cheese pull! Im a cheese lover deep down. There's no question. There is nothing more beautiful than a nice cheese pull from melted anything. Service was very prompt. The gentleman that sat me was kinda and able to provide me with a booth even though it was just me. My server was very kind and did not hoover while I was eating. Been coming here pretty often recently as it's really close to my apartment and makes for an easy breakfast take out place when I'm working from home. The quality of their pastries are good but don't get me started on the drinks. They used to be good when they first opened but now the drinks are beyond terrible. For the past year, customer service and coffee/drinks have been awful. None of the baristas know how to make anything. They often forget about your drink and you end up waiting for 20 minutes wondering what the heck is going on while they huddle around in the corner just chatting and laughing away. We usually order simple drinks e.g once my husband ordered just an Americano and they completely forgot about the order and it was just not being made until the manager or supervisor took notice of us standing around and made it for us. I don't know their hiring practices but it's clearly not going well. The staff are all extremely young, maybe high school or college students with absolutely zero experience. They are mostly chatting, I thought this was a high-end cafe, why are the people hired here so rude and inexperienced? They also kept touching their faces before handling customers' drinks and orders. That's not very hygienic. Please reconsider your hiring practices and actually hire experienced people. This was my first time here and it was amazing. The portions are big and everything is so fresh. I like the ambiance and how busy it was when I went. I sat at the bar since it was just me but the bar tenders were very sweet and attentive. even tho they were very busy. I got the eggs Benedict on the croissant with their potatoes and butternut squash. The main dish was very tasty but I will say a little hard to cut through and eat just because it slides around everywhere but the croissant was baked beautifully and so buttery and flakey. The potatoes tho I think were the star. The seasoning they use is so delicious and I had their hot sauce as well that they make in house and it was delicious. I also got their barista pick latte and the coffee was divine. You could taste the honey through everything and it was just perfectly made.
