Great find in a quaint off the beaten path location with a beautiful courtyard and lots of funky little shops. I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that everything on the menu is organic and is as locally sourced as possible. The food was delicious, the service was awesome, and the outdoor seating had a great neighborhood vibe, it was very enjoyable. Not a great experience, although the cocktails are great as is the location. Our server rushed us to order. When the food arrived the presentations were very odd. The seafood dishes were flavorless. Hard to tell who works there versus the customers, as the servers all wear dirty untucked shirts. The main dining area can get very loud very quickly so if you are looking to have a conversation forget about it. I would stick to drinks and appetizers on the patio. I give the establishment 2 stars for two reasons: they managed to fry the avocado decently, and they didn't spill any food or beverages on the table. I deducted three stars for the following reasons: Host/owner was not welcoming. Between the patio and the dining area there was apparently only seating on the patio but we were asked our preference anyway. There was only a 2-top on the patio for three people, so when asked about inside she dramatically grabbed the podium, sighed, and dropped her head and said the wait would be "several hours." Very dramatic, and extremely childish. Definitely not professional or mature. We were then seated three to a 2-top making it apparent that comfort was not their concern. Mosquitoes and flies thrown in for some hillbilly charm. They will accommodate allergies, but will also pointedly inform you that any changes to the dish will ruin the chef's "creativity" and probably won't be accommodated. This explained the lack of salt and pepper on the table, but before you think "I've been to those restaurants before" hold that thought. They weren't needed. Vegan choices aren't expected on west Texas menus, but they had two. I chose the avocado tostada and the vegan goddess bowl. It was nice to have options. The tostada was fine. The avocado was good. But for some reason it was very salty, just like the chips and for some reason the salsa, salty too. The pineapple was prepared well. A little char but not too much. The goddess bowl should have been called the salt bowl. Props for trying out Farro and pumpkin together. The texture was good but it was not very exciting. The vegetables and mushrooms were clearly brined although that was not listed on the menu. Probably the saltiest dish I have had in quite a long time. The level of salt was so overwhelming that it was difficult to distinguish the vegetables. No salt shaker needed. Clearly I was up to consume a month's worth of sodium. I know vegan foods can be a challenge for those with little experience, but salt isn't really needed. My friends asked if lettuce could be removed from the enchiladas. They were told right away that the ego in the kitchen was concerned that removing what amounted to three 1-1/2 inch pieces of lettuce would ruin the artistic integrity of the dish. Give me a break. If you're going to add a minuscule amount of an ingredient, just delete it. Not everyone wants to tell you that they have a sensitivity to a food when it can just simple be deleted when it's contributing nothing to the dish. To make the pronounced ego even more confusing was the overall quality of the food and the ambiance. At one point some old women were having some sort of hollering contest with the owner on the patio. Shouting must be part of the creative license they're taking with the ambiance. Tables unsteady, dirty chairs, patchy paint job -- no, it wasn't intentional character, it was unfinished -- and a bevy of drunk elderly people topped off this remarkable experience and unremarkable food. I would happily cut some slack and say the food is just fine, if not mediocre, but edible (and incredibly salty but that is popular in Lubbock so I guess they're just catering to the local taste instead of doing something different) but the demeanor from the start was shockingly gauche. Prix fixe menus are common territory, which would have been a better option than engineering a way to be rude about making small changes to a meal so that the customer could have a nice meal. Which is that professional chefs and restauranteurs cater to as part of the profession. Cut the BS. If you're being rude to a customer because you don't know them, consider the opportunity that they might be able to bring you if you're not mature enough to just be kind because that's the right thing to do. The flippant, snotty attitude would befit someone with a product that isn't boilerplate food network aspirations. Fail. read more

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday.we got the ceviche to start which was great and he got the venison and i got the scallops. He really enjoyed his meal! Mine was good i just wish the scallops were seared on both sides and that the part that was seared had a crisp edge. This place must be known for the wine or drinks. The food is wayyyy overpriced for the portions. We got the purvian chicken which looked like they literally cut up one chicken thigh into three pieces, put it over some fries and served it as an entree. To top that, there was no seasoning to the chicken at all very bland. The yellow and green sauce was wayyy to thick compared to traditional yellow or green sauce. They really missed the mark especially when you are well versed on authentic Peruvian food and this is what you get. There was nothing Latin about this place except the décor. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. The decor is beautiful and my food was delicious! But the service wasn't super and only half of the drinks were really good. My husband and I showed up around 5:30 and only the bar area was open. They have their happy hour until 7 PM. So we started with two house margaritas- phew, they definitely give you your money's worth!! The tequila was heavily poured. I couldn't enjoy it much so I ordered their sangria thinking "eh, what the hell, it's happy hour!" And we patiently waited until the kitchen opened to order dinner. My husband ordered the stacked enchilada and I ordered the bass with Brussels sprouts and risotto. Y'all... I ate every bite! Everything on my plate was DELICIOUS. My husband had a different experience... the whole plate was warm but had lettuce on it which he was off put by (the hot lettuce). Anyways, we had a pretty decent experience so far until the waiter came back with our check. Turns out you have to cash out before 7 PM to get your drinks at happy hour price. I came here hoping for something un-Lubbock. I think that was the wrong way to start. I grew up in LBK and still have friends and family, so I am back about once a year and always want to get in both nostalgia and new. La Sirena seemed perfect based on the menu, and the excitement of my friends. I didn't look up the reviews as I was most interested in less-of not more of the same Lubbock restaurants. Bad first impression by the older woman who was at the host stand as she seemed extremely put off that we had more than two. After rudely telling us to "hold on" and wandering off she came back to let us know that we could have one of the patio tables. Fine, just want to talk to my friends. She walked away without asking us to follow her and tossed the menus in the middle of a dirty table and kept walking. No pleasantries what so ever. I will admit we were probably a little overdressed and didn't really fit in with the couch potato attire, so perhaps we stuck out a little too much. The waitress seemed to be making an effort to be nice but was quick to inform us that everything was served as-is, please don't ask her to request any changes because she would get in trouble. Weird, but ok. After reading another review on here I guess she was referring to the chef or owner's sense of artistry. I didn't ask at the time. I agree, the food was sodium overload. Wow. And it was just ok. The prices are relatively low if you're used to dining out in bigger cities, so it wasn't much of a problem that the food was just more of the same Lubbock fare: salty, gigantic, and served with the wrong utensils. Honestly the service, which was so incredibly unprofessional and weird, was the biggest turnoff. I can overlook the middle of the road food, but the employees made it unpleasant. The good service does not make up for the bad and overpriced food. The only tasty dish we we had was the cheese plate. The Peruvian chicken lacked flavor and the Stacked Enchiladas mixed way too many different flavors and my entire dish was swimming in them. Happy to see another chef-driven establishment in Lubbock. We sat on the patio and couldn't have asked for a better night. We ordered the watermelon margarita and the Topo Chico cocktail. Both were excellent and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila. Unfortunately we only stayed for appetizers (had to meet with family for dinner) but the Harissa Crusted Fishsticks and Sriracha Tartar sauce were 10/10. I hope they don't price themselves out of the Lubbock market because the food, drinks, service and atmosphere is exactly what this area needs. I'm giving it one star because you can't give it zero. The hostess was extremely rude and the waitress wasn't much better. I asked them to remove lettuce from one of the dishes and they said the chef wouldn't do it because it would take away from the creative artistry of the dish. It's lettuce. Gimme a break. I then asked for a dish with which I wanted a side of cheese... the waitress scoffed and said "you want cheese with that?" Again, I was told that would alter the dish and the chef probably wouldn't let me have a side of cheese. I came here on a date and we had a great time​ because​ it was the most relaxing and homey place in Lubbock. At one point in the middle of the date, my date said **she forgot that she was in Lubbock**. It was like we were back in Spain with amazing sangria​ and quite jazz/classical music in the background​. I looked at all of the other reviews and thought that they were overplaying​ it, but they were a 100% right. Every restaurant​ should use this place as a template​. What we ordered: Water- When you sit down they bring you a glass bottled​ water, just like they do all over Europe. This sounds weird​, but the water tasted amazing, and it's​ was really classy. (its free BTW) Sangria- Soo good, it is the closest taste​ to real sangria​​ that I have ever tried.​​ Also, it is not crazy strong so you can have a couple and probably be still good to drive. ($6) Chocolate​ Tart​ (vegan and gluten-free​)- My date thought it was really good, but it wasn't​ my cup of tea. But for vegan,​ it is really good, because I went vegan for a while and I would die if I had this then. (idk the price) Finally,​ I left my credit card at this restaurant​, and they personally​ called me to notify me that it was there. THEY WAITED FOR ME TO COME GET IT EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE CLOSED! We were there just before Christmas and the decor was charming. I ordered the Last of the Oaxacans cocktail. I didnt care for that so i ordered a blood orange martini. Much better. We shared the charcuterie board and the duck rillette was delicious. I had the peruvian spiced chicken with duck fat fries. The chicken was very juicy and was served with several dipping sauces that i did not think added much to the dish. The chicken was good enough on its own. My husband had the pork chop. He said it was good but a tad dry and over cooked. The restaurant is beautiful and service was good. Overall we enjoyed our meal and would recommend for a bit upscale experience. read more

I have heard a lot of people say this is the place to go if you want a good environment and great food; I think they were talking about another restaurant because we got anything but that here. From the minute we walked into the restaurant to the moment we left we did not feel like we were anything but a dollar sign. We were sat down and 5 minutes later greater by our server. We ordered drinks and two tapas and that was the last time we saw our waitress until we decided to cut our losses and get our check. We did notice however, that our waitress could spend a lot of time with other costumers, probably regulars. The owner Kat came by our table to take our drink menus as soon as we ordered drinks, she did not say 'hello'or 'how are things here' she just said 'are you done with your drink menu?' which is something you NEVER do, especially if you want your coustomers to feel welcome or order more than one drink. We ordered the cheese plate($14) which was over priced and underwhelming. It came with four olives, two small wedges of cheese, a sprinkling of fruit, and the worst crackers I've ever eaten. We also ordered the Farm House Bruschetta ($10), this was my husbands fault for not reading what the dish was compromised of, he just assumed that bruschetta was a fairly standard tapa to order....well he was wrong! Pimento cheese spread on a thin piece of bread with flavorless hamburger tomatoes sliced on top garnished with seed sprouts and purple potato chips is what we received. It was beyond bizarre and the flavor profile was not that of a high end restaurant. We would have ordered more food to try out the menu but like I mentioned before we did not see our server until the end. To add insult to injury of our already poor experience as soon as we asked for our check the owner once again can by our table and cleared the silverware off our table without saying a word!! Service is impeccable & exquisitely accommodating for a large party! Environment is cozy, innovative with a Spanish, mermaid style fusion which makes you feel warm & relaxed! Let's get to the crux of the review; the spectacular food & libation I have partaken in here!!! Twice now, I have ordered the street tacos. They weekly change out the type taco filling served. The chicken mole' tacos were rich with an impeccable blend of heat with plentiful, sumptuous sauce & seasoned to perfection without need to add salt or pepper! This place stole the show for me. Hands down the best Elk I have ever tried. The chef is inventive and almost whimsical with her menue items. My partner and I came for a romantic date on a Saturday night. I was pleasantly surprised at the elegant atmosphere and the great selection of wines. I ordered the salmon which was Cooked to protection and had flavors bursting from every direction of my mouth. The elk was so tender and had a unique spice flavor throughout the dish that danced on your tounge. I almost forgot the appetizer, the best shrimp cocktail I have ever tried and I eat them often. We were delighted to find out that it was a family owned and ran business, from the waiter to the kitchen and all the way around we were extremely impressed with our experience and look forward to our next trip here just so I can go back to this lovely restaurant. This has to be one of the best dining experiences we have had in Lubbock. La Sirena is hidden in a little, quaint courtyard shopping area, and once there I swear we could have been dining in Corrales, NM along the Rio Grande. The food is very much New Mexican style. We spent a good two hours there, sat in the bar area, our choice as we arrived at 4:00 PM, and worked our way through the tapas menus, not even bothering with the main courses. Way fun! Today, reminiscing on what dish was our favorite, it is a complete draw between the Peruvian ceviche and the Harissa Fish Sticks (not the fish sticks of your childhood.) We had the Poblano fries, cheese platter and the empanadas, too, all very good. I loved the refreshing simplicity of the Mermaid Water and hubby had a margarita (can't remember the name of it). I also tried the lovely Paloma Up Martini. He had some sort of drink that had mescal in it, and it smelled and tasted very much like a peaty single malt Isley Scotch. We ended up with boozy coffees (I had the one with chocolate, YUM, and he the one with grapa) and we shared a flan. The experience was wonderful and not rushed at all. We prefer European style dining, with numerous small plates and taking a good two hours or more for the evening. Our waitress was Jenna, and she was fantastic. The couple of bad reviews on here are a bit puzzling as our experience was 180 degrees from what they described. All I can think of is that they don't know how to read a menu, don't understand New Mexico cuisine with a Spain flair, and don't understand European dining, and probably don't even think paying a little extra for an experience is worth it. If you are an Olive Garden or Abuelos type dinner, and are used to cheap cookie cutter meals with rushed service this is probably not where you need to dine. We enjoyed meeting the owner, Kat. And it was fun to watch her little grandson busy himself helping out. Just our kinda place and well worth the money spent. read more

Delightful Experience last evening. Out with longtime friends after getting covid vaccine shots last month. Kat, Jessica and Josh made sure we had a wonderful experience. Jessica is quite skilled in the culinary arts and worked with our groups food allergies and modified a dish for me. We all had different dishes... salmon, chicken, shrimp and pork and all were delicious. The sides were excellent as well. The cocktails were sublime and we shared a couple of desserts. The flan was so very good. I highly recommend this place for high quality food, great atmosphere and friendly service all at a good value. Thursday night in July. We were able to sit outside in a nice patio with shade and inner courtyard for the shopping square. Table for two only. We were visiting my husband brother so he sat at a nearby table so we could still visit. The food was quite good - quail empanadas, roasted brussel sprouts, burata tomato jam flatbread, peach salmon and redfish. The entrees are pricey. $30 and up. The "starter"plates were plenty for dinner with a split entree or another starter. The drinks sounded creative and delicious but the execution was disappointing. The custom Sazerac was warm and the didn't seem to have any absinthe. The wait staff was friendly but we wished he would have asked us how we wanted to split the bill. my partner and i havent gone out for a bougie meal since before the pandemic. la sirena was a good way to restart our foodie desires. the main entree (enchilada) was severely lacking seasoning. the tostada was decent: meat was cooked perfect but the seasonings were also lacking. they need to use more salt! the poblano fries (lightly battered and fried poblano peppers cut into strips) and the accompanying vinaigrette were amazing! our server abby was also great! came by at appropriate intervals to check on us and make sure we were staying adequately hydrated (with alcohol). the jazz was a nice touch and the patio is too cute not to sit outside. read more

This place just like mermaids is a myth. The yelp reviews I read were a fallacy. I was expecting wonderful and delicious after hours on the road but instead I received blend & overpriced. Not everything was a lost. My ceviche tasted like food stored uncover in a fridge for a while. The salmon was burnt (the burnt part was smartly facing down so it wasn't visible). The food experience deceiving. Maybe if I had been there a day earlier the ceviche would have been phenomenal...I can see the potential of a fresh ceviche and a well cooked salmon. Maybe it was just a bad night. The place is quite lovely and the service was fair. If I'm in town ever again I'll give the mermaid a second chance.
